Monroe County YMCA 2021 Annual Impact Report Where Mission Meets Community TOGETHER WE THRIVE

The Y is here every step of the way

2021 was a year of rebuilding and adapting to our community’s needs. As the COVID-19 health pandemic continued, the Y persisted as a place for people to grow, learn, and thrive. No matter the challenges that arise, we are committed to strengthening our community.

2
“The Y is a safe place that my kids enjoy attending. They see the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.”

IMPACTING OUR COMMUNITY FROM YOUTH TO SENIORS

While the Y may be best known for its fitness opportunities, we’re also a non-profit charitable organization committed to strengthening our community by connecting people to their potential, purpose, and each other. We take immense pride in our work to strengthen communities and help all of us be our best selves. The Y is a place to play, to learn, to be healthy, to eat well, and to give back. We provide parents child watch, young adults job training, seniors a way to connect, and children a safe place to go. We believe that everyone—no matter who they are or where they’re from—deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential. Everything the Y does is in service of making sure people and communities thrive.

In 2021, we saw our community come together and continue to serve our neighbors in need. Here’s just a glimpse at the Y’s impact:

• Summer Camp had 2,151 registered campers for 10 full weeks of camp, hosting 418 total kids.

• 324 kids learned about Youth Sports.

• More than 923 learned life-saving skills through Youth Swim Lessons.

• Donated 2,553 pounds to the food bank, equivalent to 3,064 meals.

• Adam Long’s mural project to commemorate 40 years of the Y raised $11,000.

• Group Ex classes continued to rebuild and stream online.

• Virtual On-Demand Library of pre-taped Group Ex classes garnered hundreds of views.

• Record breaking funds were raised at our annual Gala with $95,000.

We are not the Y without your support. Our staff, members, volunteers, and donors are what makes our Y a truly special place.

YOU ARE WHY!
THANK YOU!

This work wouldn’t be possible without support from members, community partners, and local businesses who believe in the mission of the YMCA. Our cause and our financial commitments coincide with one another – that’s why we are dedicated to making the right decisions for our organization in order to continue serving our community. While 2021 was certainly a challenging year for us and the entire world, we were able to keep our organization strong and the commitment to our cause even stronger with your support. I can’t thank the Y donors enough.” 4

DONORS

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

The YMCA is always investing in a better us. As a cornerstone in our community, capital support to the YMCA continues to grow and evolve, so there is always a place to become the best version of ourselves. Thank you to those who have invested allowing the Y to provide:

• A resource, where people find opportunities to live healthy, exercise, and nurture their spirit, mind, and body.

• A safe space, where children are cared for, inspired, and guided.

• A welcoming spot, where people help each other, friendships are developed, and everyone has a sense of belonging.

“You become friends with people who you see every other day, and you begin to talk, and you do a few things outside of the Y. You develop a circle of friends that you didn’t have before.”

YMCA ENDOWMENT FUND

When you give to the Endowment Fund, your support continues to impact lives long after your gift is made. The Endowment Fund provides the YMCA with investment earnings that help us meet crucial needs in our community. The general fund’s earnings have been designated to support initiatives that can impact areas of health and wellness, specifically acute and chronic disease prevention.

HERITAGE CLUB MEMBERS

The Heritage Club is comprised of individuals and families who have made an outright or planned gift to the YMCA’s Endowment Fund. Thanks to the commitment of YMCA Heritage Club Members, our future looks even brighter!
