Dear Campers and Families, Thank you for allowing your child to share their summer with the Monroe County Y! The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has certainly presented several challenges for children and their families, but the Y is here for our community as we all work together to recover. As we plan for summer 2021, we are continuing to take precautions for the safety of our campers and Y staff. For example, we are only offering camp at our Southeast Y this year in an effort to thoroughly implement safety protocols at one facility (with the exception of two Specialty Camps at our Northwest Y). Camp groups will be limited to small pods, and masks will be required. We continue to work directly with our Monroe County Health Department to determine best practices as the vaccine becomes more widely available, and we are carefully proceeding with extreme caution. You can find a list of our up-to-date health and safety policies on our website or in the 2021 Parent Guide. Despite these ongoing challenges, we are confident Summer Camp will be a highlight of your child’s year! Summer Camp is so much more than fun in the sun. At the Y, we provide an exciting and safe community for young people to explore the outdoors, build self-esteem, develop interpersonal skills, make lasting friendships, and more. Our counselors are wonderful role models, selected based on their experience, attitude, interpersonal skills, and enthusiasm. They genuinely care about the individual development of each camper, and every counselor will serve as a guide to live and work together as a community throughout the summer. All staff are CPR and First Aid certified, and are additionally trained in risk management, child abuse prevention, behavior management, character development, and team building. Please don’t hesitate to contact our director and/or coordinators directly via email or phone with any questions you have regarding camp. We look forward to working together and embarking on your summer adventure! Sincerely, Your Monroe County YMCA Summer Camp Team

YMCA Summer Camp at a Glimpse
Camp Arrowhead focuses on the four core values that influence everything we do: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Our summer program is based on educating our campers about these values in all environments. We will also help campers build self-confidence and independence while challenging them physically, mentally, and emotionally. We emphasize the importance of living a healthy lifestyle, which is taught through fun activities to help your child incorporate this concept into their daily lives.
A Typical Day at Camp
Camp Arrowhead provides campers ages 3-14 with supervised activities that teach core values, conflict resolution, and leadership skills. Every day, campers will participate in a variety of activities, such as group games, crafts, camp songs, and physical activity, that encourage new friendships, self-confidence, teamwork, and growth in self-reliance.
If you have general Summer Camp questions, please email us at SummerCamp@MonroeCountyYMCA.org.

E-SPORTS
GAME SHOW MANIA! NEW!
This camp offers a unique opportunity to take your gaming to the next level. Campers will have the opportunity to experience a range of sport games such as Madden Football, NBA 2K, FIFA, and many more. Each day, campers will train for a live-streamed tournament, which will take place on the last day of camp. After playing and learning some new strategies from the video games, campers will go play the same sport against each other in the real world, implementing what they have learned. Beyond strategic and tactical gaming skills, campers will also learn and grow in decision-making, teamwork, focus, and self-confidence.
Come on down; you are the next contestant on YMCA Fun in the Sun! Campers will put their skills to the test to see who can come out on top as the Game Show Camp Winner of the Week. We will participate in popular game show activities throughout the week, including minute-long games and Friendly Feud. We’ll even make slime for our obstacle course and design our own board games.
ART-RAGEOUS NEW!
MASTER BUILDERS CAMP
Unleash your child’s imagination this summer! Art camp provides children with a wonderful introduction to several forms of visual art. Each day brings a new project that may include drawing, painting, or sculpting. We will have a varied curriculum—and each day will be different!
In this camp, campers will build planes, create LEGO masterpieces, and design cardboard forts! Campers will learn how to engineer different objects and structures together in teams. Campers will need to bring their own two-liter bottle to camp, but we will provide the rest of the creative fun!
HERE’S TO ME NEW!
In this camp, campers will spend quality time with inspiring adults to help build self-esteem, learn healthy habits, and socialize in a comfortable and encouraging environment! We will have group discussions, do activities and art projects, and play games. Guest speakers will join us throughout the week to discuss self-care techniques, life skills, leadership skills, healthy relationships, and so much more!

DRIVE THRU DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP PROCESS FOR NORMAL DAYS AND RAINY WEATHER DAYS Drop-off and pick-up will follow the same process we used in 2020 in order to prevent parents and guardians from coming into the Y. We have a drive thru process set up in the lower parking lot next to the soccer field at our Southeast Y. Please follow the steps listed below every time you drop off and pick up your child from camp. Refer to the next page to see maps illustrating the process and traffic flow. See next page for normal
and rainy day
traffic flow maps.
How to drop off your camper:
1 Enter the upper Y parking lot at the top of the hill next to Winslow Park. 2. Drive down the hill toward the Southeast Y soccer fields. Please be aware of pedestrians and campers in this area. 3. Take an immediate right at the bottom of the hill and circle around the back of the lower parking lot. 4. Follow the cars in front of you. The soccer field should be to your right as you drive around to camp staff waiting next to the parking lot. 5. Cars will be first come, first served. 6. A member of our camp leadership team will come to your vehicle to complete a short health screen and take your camper’s temperature with a touchless thermometer to confirm your child is healthy enough to come to camp. Please have your camper stay in the car and roll down their window to complete this process. a. If the recorded temperature is at 100.4 or higher or COVID-19 symptoms are identified from the questionnaire, the camper will be asked to refrain from returning to the Y until being fever- or symptom-free without the use of fever-reducing medications for at least three days. b. Anyone who reads 100.4 or higher will have the opportunity to cool off outside the Y in the shade and retake the test if they feel there is a direct reason why their temperature is high. 7. A member of our camp leadership team will then escort the camper to our check-in table. You are then free to leave the Y by continuing to go straight, passing the main Y entrance on your right. If you wish to enter the Y, you must use the upper parking lot at the top of the hill or the west parking lot to the side of the main entrance. The lower parking lot next to the soccer field is reserved for Summer Camp drop-off and pick-up. 8. Campers will wash their hands after they are checked in and will then be taken to Extended Day or their daily camp pod, depending on the time of drop-off.

A member of our camp leadership team will then use a walkie talkie to contact the appropriate camp group, and a camp staff will check out your camper. 7. A member of our camp leadership team will verify the parent’s or guardian’s identity by asking for photo identification. It is your responsibility to keep the Y updated on any new authorized pick-up contacts. 8. A camp counselor will then escort your child to your car. 9. You are then free to leave the Y by continuing to go straight, passing the main Y entrance on your right. As a reminder, these procedures are to be followed during regular hours.
