INFORMATION

Dear Campers and Families, Thank you for allowing your child to share their summer with the Monroe County Y! We are confident Summer Camp will be a highlight of your child’s year! Summer Camp is so much more than fun in the sun. At the Y, we provide an exciting and safe community for young people to explore the outdoors, build self-esteem, develop interpersonal skills, make lasting friendships, and more. Our counselors are wonderful role models, selected based on their experience, attitude, interpersonal skills, and enthusiasm. They genuinely care about the individual development of each camper, and every counselor will serve as a guide to live and work together as a community throughout the summer. All staff are CPR and First Aid certified, and are additionally trained in risk management, child abuse prevention, behavior management, character development, and team building. We’re excited to bring back Summer Camp at our Northwest Y for the first time in two years to provide even more opportunities for children in our community to explore new adventures each day. While you’ll see many familiar faces with our camp leadership team, we’d like to introduce you to our new Youth and Family Program Director, Jake Steinmetz! With more than 20 years working in the education field, Jake is excited to meet our camp families and expand youth development programs within our Y community. As we plan for summer 2022, we continue to work directly with our Monroe County Health Department to determine best practices to run our Summer Camp program. You can find a list of our up-to-date health and safety policies on our website. Please don’t hesitate to contact our director and/or coordinators directly via email or phone with any questions you have regarding camp. We look forward to working together and embarking on your camper’s summer adventure! Sincerely, Your Monroe County YMCA Summer Camp Team

YMCA Mission

To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.

YMCA Summer Camp at a Glimpse

Camp focuses on the four core values that influence everything we do: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Our summer program is based on educating our campers about these values in all environments. We will also help campers build self-confidence and independence while challenging them physically, mentally, and emotionally. We emphasize the importance of living a healthy lifestyle, which is taught through fun activities to help your child incorporate this concept into their daily lives.

A Typical Day at Camp

Camp provides campers ages 3-14 with supervised activities that teach core values, conflict resolution, and leadership skills. Every day, campers will participate in a variety of activities, such as group games, crafts, camp songs, and physical activity, that encourage new friendships, selfconfidence, teamwork, and growth in self-reliance.

Campers will spend their week exploring and creating a variety of different art styles. They will have the opportunity to express themselves, strengthen creative skills, use a variety of materials, and razzle-dazzle art!
