From January 22 of this year to February 9, 2024 we will be in the Chinese Zodiac year of the Rabbit. If you are expecting (or not yet expecting) a baby to be born this year, hang on to this column as a fun guide to your new baby. As a refresher, the Chinese Zodiac is a lunar calendar that repeats on a 12-year cycle. The calendar ascribes an animal to each year within the cycle and is used to help assign personality traits and the general vibe for the year.

This is always one of my favorite columns to write because I, like many of you, enjoy daydreaming about what the kids being born this year will be like. A few years back, I wrote about the year of the dog without even knowing that I would be welcoming a baby of my own later that year. And while I don’t live and die by the zodiac characteristics, my daughter does resemble much of what I wrote about in that column.

Babies born this year will be (according to the zodiac) rabbits, which couldn’t be more different than the year we are just coming off of, the year of the Tiger. Astrologers say we can expect a significant change of pace to a more peaceful and gentle year (thank goodness).

If you are in fact having a baby this year, you won the lotto, as the rabbit is said to be the luckiest of all 12 zodiac animals. They symbolize peace, knowledge, artistic creativity and beauty.

Other rabbits in the club include: Frank Sinatra, Albert Einstein, Michael Jordan and, for you World Cup fans, Leo Messi.

Looking for a nursery color? Look no further, as the rabbit’s lucky colors are red, blue, pink and purple. According to astrologers, the colors to avoid for these babies are dark brown, dark yellow or different shades of white.

Your little rabbit, if the zodiac rings true, will be sweet by nature, a good listener and charismatic. Because of this, they are sought after as trusted confidants and advisors.

Whether you are having a baby this year or not, the vibe for 2023 is predicted to be a year of hope, peace, prosperity and longevity. I think we can all agree we are ready for a year of just that.
