Seeding the Future: Cannabis in Montana }} Airs 7pm Thursday, September 19 Also 9/22 10am; 9/23 2am From Benjamin Franklin’s fields to the federal courtroom, cannabis has been grown, cut, regulated and removed from the United States, both as industrial hemp and its potent cousin, marijuana. However, attitudes are changing and Montanans are beginning to test the waters of cannabis’ future in our state, both as a THC-free crop and as a taxable intoxicant. In 2018, Montana farmers grew more acres of hemp than any other state in the nation. In this episode of the Rundown, Jackie Coffin will take us through fields of hemp seeded on a fifth-generation Hi-Line farm to construction sites and CBD start-ups,showing us why Montana is so good at growing the product, but still not meeting its full potential. Then, we’ll travel to dispensaries and the statehouse to explore the use of another form of cannabis, and find out what choices voters will have to make about marijuana in the 2020 election. Tune into the Rundown on MontanaPBS for a deep-dive into the future of cannabis in Montana Montana farmers grew more acres of hemp than any other state in 2018. What is it being used for? Ledger, MT

Bozeman Trail  The Bozeman Trail was an offshoot of the Oregon Trail, a shortcut to the newly discovered gold fields of Montana Territory. Pioneered by John Bozeman and others beginning in 1863, the Bozeman Trail cut through the heart of Indian country. It became a flash point for a clash of cultures that would explode into warfare, destruction and tragedy. Set against a backdrop of the sprawling western plains and stunning Rocky Mountains, this program tells a different story of U.S. western expansion and manifest destiny. Not all Wilderness Areas are lush, green forests with mountainous landscapes. The Terry Badlands, located in eastern Montana, is a Wilderness Study Area managed by the Bureau of Land Management.

Wild by Law and Nature: Montana’s Wilderness Study Areas }} Airs 7pm Thursday, September 5 Also 9/8 10am; 9/9 2am The Montana Wilderness Study Act of 1977 established 9 federally protected Wilderness Study Areas in Montana to be evaluated for potential permanent wilderness designation and inclusion in the National Wilderness Preservation System. Forty years later, the fate of these federally protected areas remains in political limbo as wilderness and multiple-use advocates spar over the management, use and future of nearly 663,000 acres of public lands. This film deep dives into the history of Wilderness Study Areas and explores the lively debate surrounding the wild and highly protected lands. Wild by Law and Nature: Montana’s Wilderness Study Areas examines the nuances of the debate by speaking with stakeholders across the political spectrum including state legislators, conservation leaders, mountain bikers and motorized vehicle recreationalists. Wild by Law and Nature: Montana’s Wilderness Study Areas also investigates the relationship between wildfire, timber management and Wilderness Study Areas in Montana. 3:30pm–10pm Saturday, Sept. 14; 10am–4:30pm Saturday, Sept. 15 Tom Silva and Kevin O’Connor take This Old House to Jamestown, Rhode Island. The project is a modest 1920s beach house bungalow that will become a larger net zero house — a house capable of making all the energy it needs. As the hammer strikes each nail and the bricks are laid, watch This Old House go from drab to fab. The house gets a complete overhaul from roof to basement, adding additional space along with modern technology, in this extended marathon.
