Winston Churchill’s War BEGINS SUNDAY, 8/21 6PM

“Winston Churchill’s War” tells the story of how one man, once known as a poor strategist and a disastrous politician, became a giant during World War II. The series revisits early life moments, explores his speeches, and illustrates the war he fought through rich archival materials and expert interviews.

Episode 1 8/21 6PM Also 8/17 noon, 8/27 1am

Born into the aristocracy, Winston Churchill began his career with stints in the British cavalry and as a war correspondent, followed by political appointments including Home Secretary and then First Lord of the Admiralty, before serving on the Western Front during World War I.

Episode 2 8/21 7PM Also 8/24 noon; 8/27 2am

The story continues with a look at his time as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, a time known for his notable speeches. Within days of his ascent he finds himself leading a country that is fighting alone, evacuating British troops from Dunkirk as France falls. Churchill unsheathes the weapon that will influence the morale of his people and ensure his place in history — the English language.

Episode 3 8/28 6PM Also 8/31 noon

Churchill makes crucial decisions and navigates big changes as Britain gains a powerful ally and the war rages on. After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, and the Germans declare war, the United States has joined the fight. In Eastern Europe, Stalin and the Soviets are in a desperate struggle for survival. Churchill faces terrible reversals in Asia where forces are stretched too thin.

Episode 4 9/4 6PM Also 9/7 noon

Churchill and Britain’s influence begins to wane as the Soviet Union and the United States grow into the most significant players of the war, and his warnings about Soviet intentions following victory are ignored. Before victory in the war has been achieved, his own electorate vote him out in the first general election since war was declared.

The idea for Burgers, Fries & Family Ties, came to local film producer David W. King after eating perhaps his 50th Cheeseburger Deluxe at Richwine’s Burgerville. Over a period of 18 months, King shot behindthe-scenes of Burgerville’s finely-tuned operation, which is akin to an acrobatic ballet in tight quarters. The key to Richwine’s Burgerville’s success? King offers, “The wonderful people who have made Richwine’s Burgerville one of America’s best family-run restaurants for well over half a century. Burgers, Fries & Family Ties is our love letter to Richwine’s Burgerville!”

Charles M. Russell is an unjustly overshadowed American artist. Contemporaries like Remington and Winslow Homer are more celebrated. This film is a significant effort in finally giving Russell his just due, and placing him, and his very personal and unique version of Western Art, accurately in the canon of great American artists. Russell is a significant historical figure, essentially giving us a substantial look at what the 19th century, end of the open range frontier was like. Russell not only painted and sculpted what he saw and knew, but his illustrated letters to everyone from Douglas Fairbanks and Will Rogers are truly an exceptional way to examine our western heritage. The Sound of Music Great Performances SATURDAY 8/13 8:03PM Also 8/14 1pm

Beloved by generations of audiences worldwide, “The Sound of Music” tells the inspiring true story of the von Trapp Family Singers and their escape from Austria during the rise of Nazism. Rodgers and Hammerstein’s 1959 hit stage musical garnered five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and the blockbuster 1965 movie adaptation won five Oscars, including Best Picture. Great Performances presents the 2015 live U.K. broadcast version starring Kara Tointon as Maria, Julian Ovenden as Captain von Trapp, Katherine Kelley as Baroness Schraeder, Alexander Armstrong as Max, and Maria Friedman as the Mother Abbess. Cinematically photographed on adjoining sound stages, the production offers a more naturalistic interpretation of this great classic of the American musical theater. Among the many classic songs featured in the score are “The Sound of Music,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Climb Every Mountain,” “Edelweiss” and more.

Hiding in Plain Sight TWO NIGHTS, MONDAY & TUESDAY 8/15 & 8/16 8PM

“Hiding In Plain Sight: Youth Mental Illness” features first-person accounts from more than 20 young people, ranging in age from 11 to 27, some from Montana, who all live with mental health conditions, as well as parents, teachers, friends, healthcare providers in their lives, and independent mental health experts. The film presents an unvarnished window into daily life with mental health challenges, from seemingly insurmountable obstacles to stories of hope and resilience. Through the experiences of these young people, the film confronts the issues of stigma, discrimination, awareness, and silence, and, in doing so, helps advance a shift in the public perception of mental health issues today.
