The Honorable Miss Phryne Fisher (Essie Davis, Girl with a Pearl Earring) is a thoroughly modern woman of the late 1920s operating in a mostly male world. Based on the popular detective novels by Kerry Greenwood, the glamorous “lady detective” goes about her work, making a name for herself in the process, with a pistol close at hand-and, more often than not, a male admirer even closer. To the dismay of Detective Inspector Jack Robinson (Nathan Page, The Secret Life of Us), Phryne’s investigations take her through the back alleys, jazz clubs, and shady markets of Melbourne. Ignoring the dangers all around her, she seems to glide through life determined to enjoy every moment. But beneath her devilmay-care attitude, Phryne hides ghosts from the past that continue to haunt her.

Until 1830, a person could only travel as fast as a horse could gallop. Then came the steam engine—the iron horse that blazed a trail linking the East Coast to the West, transforming the United States and Canada into industrial powerhouses. Only a few steam engines remain operational today, painstakingly and lovingly preserved by a dedicated army of mostly volunteers scattered throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Marine Corps recruits in training at the Parris Island depot.
American Veteran TUESDAYS 8PM BEGINS 10/26
This 4-part series documents the transformative experiences that shape the men and women who have joined the military.
The Calling 10/26 8PM
As recruits take the oath to serve, they leave the civilian world to become soldiers, sailors, marines, airmen or women and their transformation begins. “There is a very stark line between before boot camp and after boot camp,” one veteran recalls. Hosted by Drew Carey.
The Mission 11/02 8PM
Military life shapes servicemen and women in profound, unexpected ways. Veterans’ stories showcase the raw impact of these experiences, including a young Coast Guard recruit who helped ferry soldiers to fight and die on D-Day, a pilot based in Nevada who remotely guided bomber drones over Afghanistan, and a young Marine who rose to become the first Latina general. Hosted by Senator Tammy Duckworth.

Hollywood war stories seem to end with the hero’s triumphant return, but in reality, the road back to civilian life is often less certain. For some, there were ticker-tape parades; for others, protests, anger and silence. Some veterans recall the confidence they brought home, while others remember thinking, “What am I going to do now?” Hosted by Wes Studi.
The Reckoning 11/16 8PM
“Those who went into the service and those who did not, we are two different realities,” observes a veteran. But there are differences from veteran to veteran. Some appreciate “Thank you for your service;” others wonder if the thanks are just “bumper sticker deep.” Veterans reflecting on their service ask how we—veterans and civilians together—can move America forward. Hosted by J. R. Martinez.
