Montana Tech Experiential Learning Summary (Summer 2011-Spring 2012)

Page 1

INTRODUCTION This annual survey is conducted for the purpose of presenting information reported to Career Services by students who have accepted degree-related work experiences. The data should be viewed only as an informational resource since the responses to requests for information are voluntary and do not reflect information for all students in degree-related work experiences. This summary is also completed as part of our continued effort to increase and expand our institutional effectiveness.

Degree-Related work experience can be defined as one of the following: Experiential Learning: Experiential learning refers to a work experience where furthering their degreerelated knowledge and clarifying career goals are the student’s primary objectives. Co-op:

Abbreviation for Cooperative Education. A co-op is experiential learning where the student commits full-time to degree-related employment during a regular academic semester in place of attending classes.

Internship:

An internship is experiential learning taken in conjunction with academic credit.

Job Shadow:

While job shadowing a student will observe and shadow an employer during their day-to-day activities without extensive hands-on participation.

This survey and archives of previous surveys are available online at:

www.mtech.edu/career/surveys Special Notes:

Some students have reported more than one experience during the reported time so the actual number of reported experiences may be higher than the number of participating students. Salary computations do not include volunteer experiences or job shadowing opportunities. Specific information on each of the different colleges can be found online at www.mtech.edu/academics. Some degrees, i.e. Network Technology, combine the 2 year and 4 year students. Internship credits are not required by all departments, but are strongly recommended.

Insufficient Data (I/D): To keep salary information confidential, I/D is listed when less than three salaries are reported. i
