MONTANA TECH Building a tradition of excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Overlooking the city from the shoulder of Big Butte, Montana Tech’s campus can be seen for miles. Its tree-shaded perimeter encloses both the stately buildings of the Institution’s past and the modern facilities reflecting its present and its future. Originally chartered as the Montana State School of Mines, Montana Tech has evolved into a dynamic institution composed of four colleges and the Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology. Prior to 1951, the college offered Bachelor of Science degrees in only five areas. Today, it offers majors ranging from technical certificates and associate degrees to bachelors, masters, and doctoral programs. Since its inception, Montana Tech has maintained an onward and upward tradition, which has earned it a reputation as one of the finest STEM colleges in the country. The exceptional job placement rate and the success stories of alumni, combined with the low cost of attendance in a highly personalized environment, attest to both its quality and value. The education students receive at Montana Tech extends far beyond what is taught in the classroom, providing graduates with the knowledge and skills needed for a successful career and the opportunity to lead extraordinary lives.

TAKE A VIRTUAL TOUR OF CAMPUS: MTECH.EDU

“I was offered a summer internship during my first year at Montana Tech, but turned it down to be a rafting guide and challenge myself outside of academics. Fortunately, Montana Tech provides students with access to an abundance of internships, and I received another offer the following year with CDM Smith. This summer will be my second year with the company and I’ll be working on remediating a mine site in Kellogg, ID. I’m excited to be working for a company that allows me to stay close to my Montana roots!”

Department Head Environmental Engineering

“Our faculty and staff are dedicated to mentorship and field experience. Students are confident applying their knowledge to a large spectrum of every-day problems, which is demonstrated by their enthusiasm for winning international and national competitions. Historically, the Environmental Engineering department has won the most awards across campus, including sustainability and innovation awards. We are proud to continue encouraging student success and excellence.”

BRIAN GOLLEHON President and CEO Ross Engineering and Design PLLC

“In 2015, I started a company that would help me build and create tools to enhance the technology systems available to the petroleum industry, specifically drilling. The first tool, Accu-Scribe, was designed to significantly increase the safety and efficiency of scribe line offset precision. It is the first solution in over 50 years to address this issue. The education I received and my mentors at Montana Tech were invaluable in preparing me to step boldly into a career, developing a notable company that will make significant strides in technology for the Petroleum Engineering industry.”

“Butte, MT is filled with an abundance of opportune outdoor recreation sites and diverse research areas. My favorite place to take students on sampling expeditions is the backcountry of Yellowstone National Park. We are able to explore hydrothermal systems off the boardwalks with my research permit, enabling access to primitive hot springs and mudpots. Research is my favorite part about teaching; I believe it’s good for students to get hands-on research experience, helping them figure out what they like and want to do.”
