MONTANA TECH

ABOUT

Welcome & Overview

Established: 1900 Overlooking the city from the shoulder of Big Butte, Montana Tech’s campus can be seen for miles. Its tree-shaded perimeter encloses both the stately buildings of the Institution’s past and the modern facilities reflecting its present and its future. Originally chartered as the Montana State School of Mines, Montana Tech has evolved into a dynamic institution composed of four colleges and the Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology. Prior to 1951, the college offered Bachelor of Science degrees in only five areas. Today, we offer majors ranging from technical certificates and associate degrees to bachelors, masters, and doctoral programs. Since its inception, Montana Tech has come a long way. The university has maintained an onward and upward tradition, which has earned it a reputation as one of the finest STEM colleges in the country. The exceptional job placement rate of graduates and the success stories of alumni, combined with the low cost of attendance in a highly personalized environment, attest to both quality and value. The Institution, which now has an enrollment of nearly 3,000 students, provides graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary for successful lives and careers, and the opportunity to be in demand.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

Working at the ACE is the best job I’ve ever had! I work with great people who love what they do, and I tutor some of the most hardworking and dedicated students I’ve ever met. For me, the job is very fulfilling. I love being able to help someone understand and find a love for a subject that I, in a way, found myself in. Even on personally stressful days, going to the ACE reassures me that this is exactly where I need to be in my life. It fuels my fire.

There are many services available on campus to help Veteran students be successful at Montana Tech and Highlands College. Here are a few of the services available: • Assistance with the applications for admission, merit scholarships, and federal financial aid. • Assistance completing the paperwork required to use your VA Educational Benefits on the Montana Tech Campuses. • Aid in obtaining reasonable accommodations for disabilities to allow equal opportunity in campus life.

Classroom Experience

GETTING TO BUTTE

At Montana Tech, we learn by doing. That means rolling up our sleeves and getting to work on things like research, field camps, competitions, laboratories, design projects, and internships. In the Spring, students showcase their research and design expertise during the annual TECHxpo event. Participants from all three of Montana Tech’s colleges demonstrate their applied knowledge of some of the world’s most challenging problems.

Residence Halls Montana Tech’s residence halls are vibrant and diverse communities where our students live, learn, and pursue their passions. Each one is a center of activity, study, socialization, and fun.

The residence halls provide a safe, healthy, and affordable living environment for all new students. The Residence Life staff, along with the Residence Assistants (RA’s), provide a built-in support system through the residence hall living-learning experience.

Butte America

Montana represents the natural and the scenic. Home to 54 state parks, 2 national parks, and countless other landmarks, you are bound to experience landscapes that will leave you breathless. Visit Glacier National Park and discover a world carved by glaciers, then trek over to Yellowstone and admire the vast expanse of land where bison roam freely and rivers rush with fervor. There are caves to explore and adventures to be had, but if solitary bliss is what you’re looking for, then a hike into one of our serene mountain lakes or waterfalls should do the trick.

Getting outdoors is a way of life in Montana, and Southwest Montana is the epicenter of recreation! Known for its vast mountain ranges, deep valleys, and high mountain lakes, there is a little something for every type of outdoor adventure. Whether you’re into hiking, biking, fishing or skiing, you are just minutes away from fresh air, sweeping panoramic views, and a little dirt on your shoes.

RICHEST HILL ON EARTH

If winter is your playtime, then you are in luck. Winter cloaks Montana in a sea of glistening white. With over 15 downhill ski resorts, you can hit the slopes in a variety of settings. You may also choose to soak the cold away in one of Montana’s many natural hot springs and then cozy up next to a fire and immerse yourself into the warmth and quiet of a Montana winter night.

Montana’s Festival City

Butte was one of the largest cities west of the Mississippi for generations. In its heyday, between the late 19th century and about 1920, it was one of the largest and most notorious copper boomtowns in the American West. Known for electrifying America, the Mining City produced over 320 million tons of copper, which was used for the wire and equipment that helped launch the U.S. into the modern age.

Butte, Montana is home to the nation’s largest National Historic Landmark District, with over 4,000 historic structures scattered across the Hill. I worked in “Inbound” and helped to manage the processes and people responsible for receiving freight into the building and stowing it away for “Outbound”. On a typical day we had 250 associates to manage split between 2 Area Managers, 1 Operations Manager, and myself. The Fulfillment Center was absolutely massive (1.2 million sq. ft. or 28 football fields) and the processes are very fast paced with over 12 miles of conveyors in the building. This was an amazing experience and a great resume builder that differentiates me from other job seekers.
