Elizabeth Barlow’s Mornings at La Mirada

"I first stepped into the La Mirada Rose Garden in 2018 and was instantly cast under a spell. It has all the qualities needed for a secret garden — stone walls, heavy, creaking gates, winding paths — and an expanse of lush roses set against a background of Monterey cypresses and the bay beyond.

When planning my paintings for Flora Fauna, I immediately knew I would create a portrait of the La Mirada Rose Garden.

In Mornings at La Mirada, I created a portrait of this historical place and also a portrait of Presence — symbolized by the roses."
