Acquisition Highlights Gifts from Enrique Martínez Celaya

The Museum has acquired two artworks by Enrique Martínez Celaya, The Marker (2022) and The Nursery (2010). Gifted by the artist in honor of Robinson Jeffers, the donation commemorates the success of Monterey Museum of Art’s Summer 2022 exhibition The Fire of Heaven: Enrique Martínez Celaya and Robinson Jeffers. The works, a small painting and a work on paper, recall Martínez Celaya’s artist residency at Robinson Jeffers’ Tor House in Carmel and a career long interest in the late poet’s life and writing. Remaining together in Monterey, the works will continue a dialogue that offers greater context to their relevance and connection to our region.

The acquisition of Martínez Celaya’s work enriches the scope of the Museum’s contemporary collection and signifies a valuable connection to a formidable and burgeoning star in the world of art.
