While earning degrees, college students experience independence, change, personal and professional discovery and growth. This can become overwhelming. According to the Center for Collegiate Mental Health’s 2017 Annual Report, anxiety and depression are the most common concerns for college students seeking services. The report showed that treatment provided by college counseling centers is effective and achieves the same level of symptom reduction as that reported in randomized clinical trials (RCT’s) for concerns such as depression and anxiety. The goal of University of Montevallo Counseling Services is to support the development and enhance the well-being of students through quality clinical services, crisis intervention, preventative mental health initiatives and programing and access to emergency resources. Qualified, fully-licensed mental health professionals provide services and resources that respect the privacy, dignity and diverse backgrounds of each individual. Counseling Services empowers students to reach their academic, personal, emotional and social goals.
