Counseling Services Needs & Priorities Improve Facility GOAL: Improve Counseling Services’ physical office space to increase client capacity, improve privacy and security and serve students more efficiently. • Install an office-wide sound masking system. $3,000-$5,000 for purchase and installation • Install electronic combination locks for confidential files storage room. $500 one-time cost for purchase and installation • Install electronic combination locks on the food pantry. $500 one-time cost for materials and installation • Remodel current waiting area to improve privacy. $2,000 one-time cost for materials and labor • Remodel current offices to increase the number of offices available. $8,000-$10,000 one-time cost for materials and labor • Install door with privacy glass in main office area to improve privacy. $1,000 one-time cost for materials and installation Additional Staff GOAL: Hire additional staff members to address increased demand for services and complexities of presenting issues. • Hire a part-time administrative assistant to allow professional staff to focus on clinical and prevention responsibilities. $9,600-$14,500 annually, plus limited benefits • Hire an additional mental health counselor to address increased demand for services $32,000 annually, plus benefits Provide On-Campus Access to Psychiatric Services GOAL: Establish an ongoing consulting relationship with a psychiatric practice, which will provide tele-psychiatry for students with severe mental health needs and will assist in providing accurate diagnoses, intervention, evaluation, consultation and medication monitoring. • Establish a contract with a practice $3,000 annually (20 hours per year x $150 per hour) • Purchase equipment Approximately $1,500 for equipment and software to provide tele-psychiatry


Offer Self-Guided Therapeutic Activities GOAL: Offer online therapy supplements and activities through Stress Management and Biofeedback Services to increase amount of students the Counseling Services can successfully serve. This will also improve students’ coping skills and resiliency. • Contract with online therapy supplement $6,000 annually — therapy assistance online $3,000 annually — WellTrack online program $5,000 annually — StressBusters online program • Purchase College SOS Signs of Suicide screening tool $800 annually • Purchase two HeartMath Biofeedback Systems $1,295 per system for HeartMath emWave® Pro Plus and training $500 to configure physical office space for systems • Update Resource Library $500 to purchase relevant reproducible materials Suicide Prevention Initiative GOAL: Develop a suicide prevention gatekeeper training to teach the campus community to respond to people in crisis, to increase help-seeking behaviors and empower members of the UM family to make a positive impact on the campus community. • Develop student and faculty/staff training led by Counseling Services. $1,250 for program and content development $750 for branding and implementation Counseling Services • Case Management and Intervention training $1,250 per person plus travel • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy training $275 per person plus travel • Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk training $200 per person plus travel • Trauma Focused CBT Approximately $650 per person (includes travel) Emergency Assistance GOAL: Improve visibility and access to the Emergency Assistance Services. • Install a free pantry box on-campus to provide easy access to basic food items. Approximately $500 for materials and labor • Install collection/information bins to raise awareness of available services.
