• Fort Toulouse-Fort Jackson State Park offers visitors exhibits and living-history events that trace the site’s 600 years of history. The park also hosts a 39-site campground overlooking the Coosa River.

• The Elmore County Historical Museum preserves and displays Wetumpka’s eventful past for future generations.

• The Museum of Black History’s permanent collections promote the ingenuity, creativity, cultural and political expressions of Elmore County’s black community.

• Historic home tours are offeed throughout the year, as are historic cemetery tours.

• Downtown Wetumpka is listed as part of the “National Register of Historic Places,” and sites to see include the 1931 court house, the distinctive Bibb Graves Bridge, three antebellum churches and several historic homes.

• The Swayback Bridge Trail draws mountain bikers and runners from around the country with its single track full of tight technical sections and steep climbs.

• The Wetumpka Riverwalk begs folks to come stroll along the banks of the Coosa River and enjoy Wetumpka’s natural resources. The trail leads to the newly constructed Sports Complex.

STAR-FALL

Wetumpka is home to one of only two marine impact craters in the United States. The still-visible, fiemile-wide “astrobleme” was created when a meteorite collided with earth, blasting through bedrock and soil in Wetumpka 84 million years ago. The tilted rocks in and along the Coosa River are evidence of the event.

Wetumpka’s idyllic charm has captured Hollywood’s eye three times. Its picturesque downtown area served as part of the setting for the movies “The Grass Harp” (1995), “The Rosa Parks Story” (2002) and “Big Fish” (2003).
