November 10 - German Hungarian Kirchweih
Through our association with the Verband der Donauschwaben we were able to host their Memorial Day Soccer Tournament. 16 teams in 3 different groups from across the U.S. and Canada took the field for the annual competition. We were reunited with friends we have made and the competition in the bar was almost as intense as it was on the field. The final reward was our Major Team taking first place. As summer approached the German Hungarians made the biannual trip to the Gaufest, this year going to Orlando Florida. Arriving with a group of 90 strong we were again able to win the “Meist” Prize. It is a true testament to our members and families that we continue to attend this event with such a large group. As always, our Cultural Group and our Soccer Program are the benchmark by which we are judged around the country. They always set that mark very high and we must be proud of what they do every day. Each time we have an opportunity to host a national event, the standards that we set are always well received and respected. The United German Hungarians of Philadelphia and Vicinity is a name proudly recognized throughout the United States and now Canada. 2012 will again give us an opportunity to display our facilities on a national level. On April 20 & 21 we will be the location for the “Forgotten Genocide Conference”. This convention is now at an international level. Ann Morrison the facilitator of this seminar has traveled throughout the world to interview survivors of post World War II Eastern Europe and allowed them to tell their stories. Speakers as well as the completed film series and books will be on display. You are all encouraged to attend. On February 25th we will be the location for “Winterfest” an evening where German Students from the Council Rock, Central Bucks, and Upper Moreland school districts will visit the German Hungarians to enjoy a German meal, sing and dance to German songs, and be entertained by our full Cultural Group. Again you are encouraged to attend. I have written many times about improving our business model. Every year we take on that task and make necessary adjustments. 2012 will not be any different. Last year we had a very noticeable decline in catering business. The recession affects us as much as any business, as our expenses have increased the working family income has decreased.
The most Important Traditional German Hungarian Event!
November 14 - Women’s Auxiliary Penny Party December 16 - Christmas Dinner & Cultural Group Performance

December 31 - New Year’s Eve Celebration
We are continually working to create new ideas and excitement at the club but, we need the support of all members and families to attend as often as possible. We are not in a position to take things for granted. There is still a lot of hard work ahead of us, but, we should meet these challenges by having fun and enjoy our times together. I look forward to making 2012 a year we will all be proud of by working with our officers, chair people and members, as well as members of the Bayerischer Volksfest Verein. William Galgon President
