—STEVE PAUL— To Be Inducted into the SEPA Hall of Fame Recently our Chairman of the Board has taken over the duty of nominations from our club to the Southeastern Pennsylvania Soccer Hall of Fame (Old-Timers). It needed to be done and he did it. This year the club decided that we nominate for the honor the man who has taken the initiative to make sure our people are recognized. In truth, the soccer career of Steve Paul as a player, a coach and an administrator is why he deserves the honor. We are proud as an organization that his name was accepted by the hall and will be inducted on Saturday, May 9 at the Cannstatter Volksfest Verein. Anyone who wishes to attend the banquet with our club can contact General Secretary Nichole Blank Deely via email at nichsmalls@hotmail.com. Over 36 years as a player at the amateur club level, that is an accomplishment through and through. Steve Paul began playing soccer at age six with the German Hungarians. From 1966 to 1977, Steve would play his entire youth career with our club in the United Junior Soccer League being selected to the All-Star Team multiple times. (CONTINUED ON PAGE 3)

—SOCCER SHORTS— U-18 Girls Bring Home Jefferson Cup On the weekend of March 20, the United German Hungarians U-18 Fevernova team went down to Richmond Virginia for a college showcase tournament. Since this was a college showcase format we were only scheduled to have one game a day, on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Our game on Friday was against Pipeline SC, which is a high-level team ranked seventh in Maryland. Fevernova won this game 2-0 with goals from Mikaela Malofiy and Sarah Theurer. The game on Saturday was against New Jersey Wildcats and this was a great game for our team. The entire time we continued to outplay the other team and kept them on their toes. The final score was 5-1 and the U.G.H. goals were from Sidney Doherty who had three, Alyssa Antonelly, and Emily Keitel. Fevernova’s final game was Sunday morning against the Alleycats-NPL of Albany, NY. This was a very important game because a win on a Sunday was crucial; if we were to win this final game then we would most likely win the entire tournament in the U-18 Superior bracket. As it turned out, we played a (CONTINUED ON PAGE 2)

—EASTERN PENN.— Celebrated Its Centennial | GH Spotlighted On Saturday, March 21 at the Desmond Hotel in Malvern, PA East Penn celebrated 100 years of soccer and the festivities were noteworthy enough to warrant this piece informing you. The Eastern Pennsylvania Soccer Association has been home to 10 US Open Cup Champions, six (Including the first) US Amateur Cup Championships, a USASA Open Cup Championship, and an Over-30 Cup Championship. Six East Pennsylvanians have been inducted into the US Adult Soccer Hall and 25 into the US Soccer Hall of Fame. Over 25 have served US Soccer or US Adult Soccer with three having been Presidents of the US Federation. It is no doubt that East Penn has a history and a tradition of excellence in our state, region, and nation. Still one evident thing was that the clubs were on display at the 100th Anniversary. Reading, West Chester, Vereinigung Erzgebirge, and the Ukrainian Nationals had table displays of their awards and trophies. The German Hungarians were not excluded. Our own, Walter Bahr, Walter McClinton and Werner Fricker were inducted into the East Penn Hall of Fame during the evening. In addition, an extensive souvenir book featured No. 7 Peter Piskei in that famous snapshot from the 1965 US Amateur Cup Final on the cover. I had the opportunity to write the foreword to the History that was printed in the book, Werner Fricker Jr. was asked to present the Hall of Fame Inductees, and Jeffrey Maierhoffer did much work to fill the room with soccer legends. From our organization the following attended: Alex Blank, Chris Deely, Nichole Blank Deely, Emily Fricker, Lisa Fricker, Marlene Fricker, Michael Fricker, Werner Fricker Jr., Werner Fricker III, Bill Galgon, Sasha Malofiy Jr., Kathi Noel, Marie Noel, Mat Noel, Michael Noel, Christina Paul, Michelle Paul, Steve Paul, Cindy Proll, Joe Proll, Billy Wilkinson, and Bobby Wilkinson.
