Congratulations to the team and the players and coaches involved. We Sunday, December 20—CHRISTMAS PARTY are proud of you all!

We will be travelling to Wisconsin for the 25. Gaufest hosted by S.V.E.V. D'Oberlandler from July 30, through August 2. We will take part in the Welcome Dance and enjoy the music of the Austrian Express on Thursday evening. On Friday, our Adult Einzelplatteln Couples will perform between 9:00am and 2:00pm. We wish them luck. Some meetings will take place for the Fahnenträger and the Vorplattler, where the dance order of Saturday’s group competition will be drawn. A Heimattanz will take place in the evening. Saturday, as usual is the competition day! The group competition begins at 9:00am. This competition is the reason we attend this biannual event. The group competition is that chance to achieve a success on a national stage. That success varies for each individual and each club competing. Ultimately, this is the core of what the Gaufest is. We know our team always strives to put out their best. In the afternoon, the Jugend Einzelplatteln will take place. The evening is the traditional banquet, parade of flags and festivities. The winners of the Einzel competitions will also be announced. The Blaskapelle Milwaukee will provide music. On Sunday, the Gaukapelle will provide music for the picnic. A parade of flags will proceed the announcement of the Preisplattler winners! Then in the evening, the Farewell Party will take place with a “Milwaukee Theme, with Harley Davidson Emphasis.” Austrian Express will again entertain. Our group of attendees is a little smaller this year, but we know we will have a grand old time! (We always do!) For those of you not joining us we know your thoughts, prayers, and smiles will be with us! That is what a club is. To read more about our dancers and their preparations for the event, please go to page two and read “Dancing Around” written by Karina Fricker! You will not regret it! Michael

GAUFEST ATTIRE LIST

Mikaela Malofiy reacts to the 3rd Women’s World Cup won by the U.S.A. As I counted down the days to the Women's World Cup, my enthusiasm grew. When the U.S. team arrived, I knew it would be a fierce and long journey. Four years ago when I watched the U.S. lose to Japan in the final my heart broke along with the rest of America. So, going into this World Cup I knew and believed that the women would somehow rise to the top! Before every game when I put on my jersey and got ready to watch them battle their newest opponent I received butterflies in my stomach. This was not fear. It was faith. I believed that they had the best eleven players on the field and no matter whom the game was against, they would win. Since the last World Cup, this team has grown so much. Many players have said it, from Abby Wambach to Alex Morgan and many more. Each game and each practice leading up to the World Cup tournament in Canada has been part of a journey to become the best team in the world again. Many of the players have said that their dream was to leave Canada with that World Cup in their hands. With all of this said, you can easily look back and now realize that they were not playing each game for themselves; they were playing it for their country! Each time those twenty-three players put on their jerseys it was for the people back home that they represent. As the final approached and I knew the U.S. was in, I waited to see who their opponent would be. In a way, I wanted them to play England because I thought it would be an easy game for them to win. But, in another way, I really wanted a rematch! I knew and had plenty of faith that if we met Japan in the final, we, the U.S., would win! So, when seeing the result that we were in fact going to play Japan I became ecstatic! I was so thrilled, I could not imagine how the team felt. These twenty-three players have waited four years for this opportunity and no one was going to take this from them again! As a soccer lover, this World Cup has been amazing to watch. I have seen these players whom I look up to so much play amazing soccer and achieve their goals. I am so proud to be able to say that I watched the 2015 United States women's soccer team win the World Cup and gain another star for the jersey! Mikaela Malofiy

—DANCING AROUND— On June 13, some of our dancers traveled to New Jersey for the Gauverband Judges training. This event was hosted by our friends from Bayern Verein Newark. It is a productive day that helps to prepare the judges for Einzelplatteln and Gruppen Presiplatteln at Gaufest. Our dancers performed a few Einzel and three or four Gruppen dances. Not only does this event prepare the judges for the real thing in, but it prepares us as dancers to experience dancing in front of the judges. Throughout life, people are consistently searching for things, whether it be acceptance, love, happiness, or companionship. Throughout the journey of Gaufest 2015 preparations, I think the majority of us have realized that the search is useless. As German Hungarians our acceptance, our joy, our “happy place” is one another. Each time a Gaufest rolls around, everyone is focused and determined to do well in competition, perform an impressive Ehrentanz, or just have an overall awesome time. That focus, hard work, and determination reminds us of why we do what we do. We do it to succeed, together. That is our German Hungarian spirit. We are proud and we are dedicated. And when we work together and we exercise that spirit, we are in that happy place. The place is not geographic, or based on landmarks. That place is based on people and the actions of those people as a group. Karina www.ughclub.us

Anna Ehling was born on October 26, 1925 to Joseph and Irene Mayersfeld Ehling in Philadelphia. Her mother, Irene, was born in Perjamosch, Banat and immigrated to the United States as a child with her parents and her brother John. Anna’s father, Joe, was born in Hatzfeld, Banat and immigrated to the United States at age 19. Both of these villages were located in the former Austrian Hungarian Empire and after World War I became a part of Romania. Both Anna’s parents had other family members living in Philadelphia and soon became members of the BANATER MÄNNERCHOR, which later became the UNITED GERMAN HUNGARIANS. Joe Ehling was a member of our Original Soccer Team playing exhibition games and in December 1922 when a sports section, the Banater Athletic Association was officially formed, Joe was a member of our first soccer team. Anna was very proud of her father’s involvement at our club and of the fact that her mother’s family was among the original club members. The Ehlings had three daughters; however, their second daughter, Irene, died at a young age of scarlet fever. Kathleen was born later in 1945. Although Anna attended many events at our club, she did not become a member until 1964 when our club was soliciting certificated members for our Building Fund. She immediately became involved in our Ladies Section under Theresa Kirsch. In 1967 when Theresa stepped down from the Ladies Section, which had become the Women’s Auxiliary under our new constitution ratified in 1965, Anna was appointed Chairman. The Auxiliary presented a Spring and a Fall Penny Party, throughout the years as well as various other activities under Anna’s chairmanship. She supported our Cultural Group as well as our Schuhplattler Dancers attending many Gaufests and traveling in 2003 with the group and many members to Ingolstadt, Bavaria in Germany. Anna also attended many major soccer games, weather permitting and always proudly mentioned the fact that her father was a member of our club’s first soccer team. Anna was also an elected member of the Board of Governors for over 25 years and served as the board’s secretary for a time. She was a member of our Kirchweihfest committee and served on various special committees among them the Kitchen committee, the Fahnenweihe committee, and the Flag Design committee. She presented the Auxiliary’s Banner to the club at the Fahnenweihe in 1994. In 1970, Anna was a recipient of the United German Hungarian “Ehrenwuerdig” pin and in 1997, she, along with many others was honored with a certificate of merit at the 75 Years if Soccer. After 40 years guiding this group, Anna decided to retire in 2007 and she received a plaque in recognition of her commitment and faithful service. On Saturday, November 20, 2010 at our club’s 100th Anniversary Banquet, a special Anniversary cake was brought forward and since Anna was well known as our cake connoisseur and the oldest member present, she along with our youngest member present, Evan Hubert were requested to cut the cake by our president. Anna attended many more events in the next few years and still worked faithfully with the club and the Women but finally the time came when it became necessary for her to retire to an assisted living facility. She only came to the club a few times after this move but when you spoke with her, she always talked about the club and the many people there and how she missed everyone. Anna died on June 8, 2015. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Heinz (Hoagie) Guckert, their children Dana and Brian and their spouses and their children. We offer our deepest sympathy to all of them. A mass was held at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Horsham and was attended by her family, relatives, friends, neighbors, and many club members, especially the senior group of the United German Hungarians with whom she worked with for so many years. Farewell, my friend, you will forever live in the history and the hearts of the United German Hungarians! ef |

We have some sad news to report. Gertrude (Trudy) Chancigian from the Bayerischer Volksfest Verein, has passed away at 91 years old. She served as Vice President of the Ladies for over 20 years. Trudy was the one who taught us how to make the potato pancakes at the first Oktoberfest that was held jointly between the German Hungarians and the BVV. She attended many events at our Club over the years. Our sympathies go to her family and the Bayern Club members. Stevie Paul traveled to Germany and the Czech Republic with his soccer team for 12 days. They had a very successful trip on the field coming home with four wins with only one loss. His father Steve Paul who was on the trip as well also coaches the team. They experienced many of the sights and sounds of both countries going to Munich, RegensL T PTS burg, and Prague. A number of our members will be travel0 4 46.0 ling to Milwaukee for Gaufest and to Los An4 2 38.0 geles for the National Donauschwaben Landestreffen. We wish everyone safe travels 6 0 36.0 and happy times on these trips!

—AMONG OUR MEMBERS—

Your German Hungarians finished the season in sixth place. The record was (8-8-2) with 26.0 points. Though not the results any team is looking for we thank the players, coaches, and managers for representing the club this season. The team would like to thank all the fans at home and especially those that traveled to the away games to watch them play! Thank you all! Vereinigung Erzgebirge clinched the Major Division Championship after a win over the Ukrainian Nationals. Erzgebirge finished the season undefeated with a (14-0-4) record. They scored 60 goals and only had 18 scored against them. They gained the top spot with 46.0 points. Erzgebirge also won the East Penn State Amateur Title and made a good showing in the regional rounds of the cup. Congratulations to them for their hard work.

—CONGRATS WEST CHESTER— Folks in East Penn (said as all one word) label West Chester, PA with the term “hotbed of soccer.” On Saturday, July 18, Blaise Santangelo and his predator men of the USLPA proved the label right, when they won the last National USASA Open Cup in Virginia Beach. On Friday, July 17, West Chester won 4:1 over California South’s Chula Vista FC, the amateur club that recently made waves in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. The win over the Region IV team put West Chester into the Championship Final. That match was played on Saturday, July 18, in the hot sun of Virginia. They took on Chicago’s RWB Adria, a two time US Amateur Cup Champion, and the winners of the 2014 US Soccer Amateur Championship. in the end, West Chester won 2:1 over Adria and in doing so; they entered their name on a list USASA Open Cup Champions.

—KIRCHWEIHFEST— Save the Date! The Kirchweihfest will take place this fall on Saturday, November 14th. All the usual trimmings will make this event the traditional and important success it has been in the past. The dancers will take part as the Kirchweih group and a Geldhehr will be selected. The rosmarein strauss will be on hand for the ceremonies. It will be festive. It will be traditional, and it will be grand. We hope you can take part and attend the event, so we are informing you of the date now! Mark your calendars!

—45th STEUBEN PARADE— The 2015 Steuben Parade will take place in Rockledge—Fox Chase on Sunday, October 4. It is shaping up to be a fine event. The Committee is working with the local GermanAmerican businesses to make the weekend a destination for our community that weekend! As a result of this date change, the Annual Banquet will now take place on Saturday, October 3 at the Cannstatter Volksfest Verein. More information will be forthcoming on both of these two events as we move into the fall. This short reminder is only a “save the date” of sorts for all of you!
