—PRESIDENT’S NEW YEAR MESSAGE— Dear Members, I hope that you had a very Merry Christmas and had the chance to enjoy traditions of the season with family and friends. That is truly JANET MALOFIY what it is all about. As 2016 came to a close we had a chance to reflect and reminisce on the good and the bad and where we can make changes for the better; where we can be thankful for the past and hopeful for the future. A new Year is here! Let’s welcome it and embrace the 365 days it brings. Fresh new beginnings and exciting new experiences await! As a club, as friends and family let’s work together to continue our traditions, create new events and opportunities and enjoy one another and what we like to do. We may make a mistake along the way, but that is as it means we are trying new things, doing new things and pushing the boundaries. Ultimately, we have control over the new year and what we do and the story we write. I would like to thank all the volunteers for your time and dedication this past year. To those members who have not had the chance in 2016, I invite you to join a committee or volunteer when we need a few extra hands with soccer, cultural events or maintaining our property and clubhouse. Club life is very rewarding and to work alongside other members and friends is quite enjoyable. I wish each and everyone one of you a very happy and healthy 2017 and I look forward to seeing you all very soon. Janet Fricker Malofiy, President

1994—2016 Jenna Richards was the star forward and leading scorer for the Major Women at the German Hungarians in the fall of 2016. She ranked a total of 10 goals, many assists, and started 9 of the 10 games this Fall. Her hard work ethic and positivity on the field was contagious. She was an all around perfect example of what any teammate should be. Her passion was soccer, and the way she played on the field left a mark on any teammate or opponents mind. She was an amazing soccer player but even a better person. On December 20, Jenna Richards was involved in a car accident in Bucks County and lost her life. At the age of 22 years old, Jenna had already touched the lives of many. A graduate from Conwell Egan Catholic and Holy Family University, Jenna excelled both in their soccer programs and academically. She left behind loving parents, an older sister, a younger brother, a boyfriend and an endless number of friends. Jenna was known throughout not just our soccer program but in the Holy Family, Conwell Egan, St. Thomas Aquinas and YMS communities as well. The Major Women, the team, and the club suffered a great loss losing Jenna. This upcoming Spring season you will see the team wearing black bands with Jenna’s initials and number. We want to remember the great memories we had with Jenna and honor her on the field. Our condolences are with Jenna’s family and friends. As a club we hope to continue in 2017 and forward in traditions Jenna helped us carry on and off the field. Michelle Paul After her passing, Jenna’s parents started a scholarship fund. If anyone would like to give to the United German Hungarian’s contribution to the fund, please feel free to contact Michelle Paul at michellepaul5293@hotmail.com with any questions. |

July 24, 1932 – January 10, 2017 Peter M. Wagner died on Tuesday, January 10. He was 84 years of age, the son of the late Anton and Catherine (Thomas) Wagner. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth (Walter), his sons, Michael (Elizabeth) of Horsham, Thomas (Anita) of Warminster, his daughter, his grandchildren, his great grandchildren, and his brother Anthony. Born on July 24 in 1932, Pete was a Korean War veteran, and the owner of Wagner Contractors, Inc. a concrete contracting business, for many years. Pete and Betty were residents of Horsham and hosted many family vacations in Ocean City, NJ. Later they enjoyed frequent trips to Florida. They also resided in the Wesley Enhanced Living Community in Upper Moreland for a time. Pete Wagner was a proud lifelong member of the United German Hungarians. He came to the club as a young boy with both his parents and grandparents. Only a select few can claim anymore, to have physically built the majority of the grounds at the clubhouse. Pete and his company poured every inch of concrete at our club. Pete also served as a longtime member of our Board of Governors, having served back in the early days of our present constitution. He also served for many years on the Finance Committee, overseeing ticket sales at our 3 Day Kirchweihfests and other large events. He brought his children into our club and his oldest son, Michael, has served our club faithfully in various capacities for over 50 years. The German Hungarians offer their deepest sympathies to Pete’s wife Betty and to his children and their families. It can be truly said that Peter Wagner left his mark on our club. ef Our deepest sympathy to Betty (Buerger) Wagner and Michael Wagner and their entire Buerger/Wagner families on the deaths of Betty’s parents, Anna, and Nick Buerger on January 11th and 12th respectively. More info in the next issue.
