HISTORY ON LOCATION IN THE WINDY CITY
Montini Catholic teacher, Andrew Weisenburger '05, gave his students a unique opportunity to learn their Chicago history up close and personal this past Sunday. Andrew teaches a "History of Chicago" course and took his students to visit several unique, historical sites in the Windy City. The group had a full day of educational sight-seeing while visiting the site of the Saint Valentine's Day Massacre (Lincoln Park), Jane Addams Hull House on the campus of the University of Illinois at Chicago, as well as the site of the start of the Great Chicago Fire. "We also explored the entry gate of the former Union Stock Yards, the University of Chicago campus (site of the first controlled nuclear reaction), the Statue of the Republic, the Museum of Science and Industry, Grant Park, the Loop, and many other locations," said Andrew. His goal was to get his students out of the classroom and have them experience the curriculum first hand. "I was able to show and teach the students about Chicago's history in a way that they will remember for a long time," he said. "Having such an amazing resource as the City of Chicago so close to Montini Catholic really helps bring the city and its history to life in a way that cannot be done solely in the classroom!" Andrew will also be offering a version of this tour as an auction item at the Maroon & Gold Gala.
