CHRISTMAS SPORTS ROUNDUP

It was a busy Christmas break for Montini Catholic's winter sport teams. The boys basketball team participated in the ICCP/Westmont Christmas Tournament sponsored by Immaculate Conception and Westmont High School. The team finished 3-1 and won the consolation bracket beating Tinley Park, 70-41. Click here to visit the tournament site. The Lady Bronco basketball team competed in their own Christmas Tournament. This was the 10th Anniversary of the Montini Catholic Christmas Tournament which has become the premier Christmas tournament featuring many of the top rated girls basketball teams. The Lady Broncos made it to the Championship game, but lost in a tight match to Nazareth, 41-40 . The 10th Anniversary All Tournament Team was honored during the tournament. The wrestling team headed to California to compete in the Doc Buchanan Tournament, the top wrestling tournament on the West Coast featuring 109 teams and over 500 wrestlers. Montini Catholic finished in 2nd place behind tournament host, Buchanan High School. The Broncos were represented well with Jack Stiles finishing 1st at 152 lbs. Additionally, the Broncos captured 2 - 2nd places, 1 - 3rd place, 2 - 5th places and 1 - 7th place. Click here to read more about the tournament. The Broncettes finished in 1st and 3rd place at IHSA Regionals at Argo High School this past Sunday. All teams are back in action and are gearing up for the State Playoffs and Championships. You can follow the Broncos on the Athletic Website.

BOYS LACROSSE COACH LOSES CANCER BATTLE After a valiant fight against cancer, Montini Catholic Boys Lacrosse coach, Mike Thuma passed away on December 20th. This past season was his first as the Broncos head coach. Thuma was initially diagnosed with synovial sarcoma in 2012, and on April 26th, he had his left leg amputated below the knee due to his ongoing cancer fight. Four days later Thuma returned to the sidelines to coach the team. The players dedicated their season to Coach Thuma with the motto "This year we play for coach." Save the date for Saturday, February 2nd from 1:00pm - 4:00pm for the 2nd Annual Family Winter Fest. This year Belle and the Beast along with some of their friends from the castle will be at Montini Catholic. Characters will be available for a meet and greet and photos. There will also be crafts, games, treats and beverages along with a showing of the movie Beauty and the Beast. Tickets will be $5.00 per child in advance and $10 at the door, adults are complimentary. Register online. Come and "Be Our Guest" and enter the enchanted world of Beauty and the Beast.
