THE DRIVE FOR FIVE
Bronco football is gearing up for another successful playoff run. The unity of the entire Montini Catholic community has been the backbone of the success the football program has sustained on the field. The Broncos are currently 7-0 and are poised to retain their place atop class 5A for a 5th consecutive season. GO BRONCOS!
3rd Time is a Charm! Consecutive 3rd place finishes at the IHSA State Championship have the Lady Broncos Cross Country team primed for success. STUDENTS ARE
SELF-AWARE
We provide you the opportunity to EXPLORE your faith, while you provide the courage and confidence to try. We believe these opportunities can occur in the classroom, on the field, at your locker, around your community as well as within yourself. You just may be surprised at what you can achieve.
Each year we host Easter Seals in our Field House and Parking lot. And each & every year our students get to make an impact in the lives of these inspirational children. Sarah Sniegowski (Senior from West Chicago) - Last March she volunteered as a Discovery retreat leader with her parish, St. Isidore. With her team they planned the activities, did research, and wrote speeches and talks. In June, they had a very successful retreat and with the participants, grew closer to God. “It was a very rewarding experience and I encourage everyone to participate in at least one retreat.” Said Sarah
Members of NHS spent the Monday afternoon of Homecoming Week wrapping birthday gifts for the Humanitarian Service Project birthday project for underprivileged children. Each table in Mrs. Laraine Parker’s classroom was filled with a large bag of unwrapped items for a child. Students spent over an hour wrapping each and every present to make it special for the child. The students of NHS decided (amidst the frenzy of a chaotic week) that they wanted to do something for others during Homecoming Week. Great Job, NHS!
Easter Seals DuPage and the Fox Valley Region, iCan Shine & Montini Catholic teamed up August 5-9 to provide a five day program to children 8 years old and up, in order to help them learn an often challenging skill to most every youngster.
On Monday, September 9 42 Juniors set-forth on a journey to become more self-aware. Retreat is a time that pairs introspective contemplation with deep, meaningful and often quite fun conversation. It is a time filled with moments that can change one’s perspective of their time at Montini, but more importantly alter and reinforce their personal outlook towards their faith and their relationship to and role in the greater community. It seems that each and every retreat is initially met with some resistance - if not mixed emotions, but like clockwork Juniors come back to their ‘normal’ routines FAR TOO SOON. We welcomed back this year’s first group with open arms & also challenged them to extend the relationships they have forged on this retreat for the remainder of the school year and the rest of their time at Montini Catholic.

Andrew Grossklaus (Junior from Wheaton) - From June 16-22, he went on a mission trip to New Orleans with the youth group of St. James in Glen Ellyn. The agency that he worked with was called the “United Saints”. His team’s project was to conduct prep work and paint the “Sci- Academy” which is a school outside of New Orleans that was ruined by hurricane Katrina. With his team, he worked 4 days from 7am to 3 pm and painted about 10 classrooms, the cafeteria and gym.
On Saturday, September 28, the Lady Broncos Volleyball team was victorious over Sacred Heart Griffin & Breast Cancer, as they held their annual Volley for the Cure Game.

On Saturday, September 7 Steve Dowjotas and the Lady Broncos Volleyball Program hosted the 9th Annual Grade School Volleyball Bronco Bash. In the 5th Grade Girls’ Championship match St. Joe’s (Downers Grove - above) played St. Pius X (Lombard). Now...as a St. Pius X alum, I was bummed to watched St. Joe’s take the tournament in a close game, as both teams played their hearts out. Despite my sorrows, however, I was terrifically moved by what had happened that Saturday afternoon. The photo above is a small testament to the power of community that can be established through sports. One of the St. Joe’s players, Mikayla (far right), had recently beat cancer. The parents of St. Joe’s players decided to challenge their girls - they would donate $2 towards cancer research for every 3-contact return (bump-setspike) the girls were able achieve.

The “4” that Coach Joe Schallmoser is showing the team represents the $400 that those young ladies helped raise. Mikayla’s goal was to raise $5000 and with the help of her team she was able to exceed that goal with over $5500 raised. Chris Pestel ‘99 Communications Coordinator
