MESSAGE
FROM THE
PRESIDENT Dear Montini Catholic Alumni and Friends, As we approach the end of the 2013-14 school year, I am happy to report that our 48th year of education has been one of much excitement with many stories of academic and extracurricular success. Presently, over $13 million dollars have been awarded in scholarships and academic grants to the 170 members of the Class of 2014 and with one month remaining in our school year (at the printing of this newsletter), I am sure we will be near last school year’s $14 million dollar mark. Over 60% of the class was awarded at least one scholarship or academic grant. Over the last three years, our graduating senior classes have earned over $40 million dollars in scholarships and grants. The iPad pilot program for our Digital Learning Initiative has been extremely successful this year. We have learned a great deal about one to one learning by working with 40 students who have used the iPad throughout the school year. In addition, many faculty members have been signing out the iPad cart on a regular basis for classroom instruction. A series of professional development opportunities, on Digital Learning, have been presented to our faculty and staff. I believe the classroom experience using the iPad and the professional development training will prepare our faculty well for the roll out of the Digital Learning Initiative to our entire student body in the upcoming 2014-15 school year. I am also very excited about two additions to our course offerings in the 2014-15 school year. Chinese – Mandarin will be added to our Foreign Language offerings and Programming Robotics will be joining CAD in our STEM elective offerings. Along with the academic success we have experienced this school year, Montini Catholic has had a terrific season athletically with two IHSA state championships (wrestling and girls basketball) a 2nd place state finish in football, 10th place state finish in girls cross country and a 12th place state finish in boys golf. In addition, our Broncettes Dance Team repeated as the TDI State champion in Pom. Football, Girls Volleyball, Wrestling, Girls Basketball also claimed SCC conference championships and our Boys Soccer team claimed its first ever IHSA Regional Championship. The spring sport season is in full swing and several teams are challenging for conference titles as well. With the IHSA Board of Directors approving a “Success
“The strong enrollment number reaffirms our belief that we are providing our students with an outstanding Lasallian college preparatory experience and this is recognized in the Western suburban grade school community.”
Factor” Policy for the 2014-15 school year, Montini Catholic’s football, wrestling and girls basketball teams will be faced with the challenge of continuing their state playoff success while being bumped up one class in IHSA state tournament competition during the next school year. I am also very proud to announce that, as of this writing, 8 out of the 11 Montini Catholic IHSA fall and winter sport teams have earned the IHSA All-Academic Team recognition for the 2013-14 school year. This means that the 8 teams during their seasons maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. This is a great accomplishment and I am confident that the number of teams earning this academic status will grow as we conclude the spring sport season. Not only do I congratulate our teachers, but also our Athletic Department and coaches for their strong message to their players on not only performing on the athletic stage but, most importantly, in the classroom. As we approach our 49th school year, early registration figures indicate that we will be at or we will be exceeding the target student enrollment figure of 680. This strong enrollment number reaffirms our belief that we are providing our students with an outstanding Lasallian college preparatory experience and this is recognized in the Western suburban grade school community. Finally, I would like to remind the members of our school community that we are just one school year away from celebrating our 50th anniversary as a school community. This is a very important milestone in our school’s young history and it is our belief that as we approach our 50th year, Montini Catholic will be at the cutting edge in student instruction with our Digital Learning Initiative program and the development of our STEM program. Once again, my sincere appreciation to all of you for your continual support and generosity to our school community. May you have an enjoyable and relaxing summer and as always “May Jesus Live In Our Hearts…Forever.” Sincerely,
James F. Segredo President

Planned GIVING 4-Ways to leave a Legacy
The legacy you leave for Montini Catholic High School demonstrates your own love and value of your own Montini Catholic experience, so that the young men & women who aspire to join our Catholic educational community and who hope to make a difference in our world, may have the same experience as you did. If you believe that it is important to provide a legacy to future generations seeking to grow in their faith and their education, but do not want to part with money today, then a gift in your own will or your trust may be the donor-option you have been looking for as you plan ahead. It has these four clear benefits: 1. Simplicity - Just a few sentences in your own will or trust are all that is needed. Contact us to receive wording which you can then share with your own attorney in order to complete your gift. 2. Flexibility - Because you are not actually making a gift until after your lifetime, you can change your mind at any time.
MONTINI.ORG
3. Versatility - You can structure your gift in order to leave a specific item or an amount of money, or make it contingent on certain events, or leave a percentage of your estate. 4. Tax Relief - When you make a gift to us in your will or trust, your estate is entitled to an estate tax charitable deduction for the gift’s FULL value. Consult your own attorney or your financial counselor today about the best way you can remember Montini Catholic High School in your will or your trust. I also invite you to review our Montini Catholic website (www.montini.org), the “Support Montini “ tab, and the “Planned-Giving/Estate” page for other ideas and strategies concerning such plans. I hope you will consider including Montini Catholic High School in your will or other estate plans, and would be pleased to hear from you ! Truly yours,

O
ver the past nine years, Montini Catholic has asked the members of the school community to make a donation to launch our Fund A Need projects during the annual Spring Fling Auction. Through these Fund A Need projects, we have been able to obtain new computers in Computer Lab 1 and the Learning Resource Center, SmartBoards, cafeteria tables and chairs, new student desks, new classroom overhead projectors, compound digital microscopes and two mobile laptop computer labs, and iPad cart and Interactive Projectors with Smart Technology. This year, our project is threefold: 1. 12 Ceiling Mounted Projectors for Classrooms 2. New Cafeteria chairs 3. An Automated Screen and Projector System in the gym for Masses and Assemblies This year, our fundraising goal is $40,000. Thanks to the generosity of many in attendance at the Spring Fling Auction on March 22, we have raised over $27,000. Each year after the Auction, we reach out to all of the members of the Montini Catholic community to ask for help reaching our Fund A Need goal. We appreciate your consideration in helping us with the 2014 Fund A Need projects. Remember, any gift, no matter the size, will help us provide a stronger academic environment for all of our students. Thank you for your consideration.
