PHASE IV

“There is so much to celebrate during our 50th Golden Jubilee.”

FROM OUR PRESIDENT Dear Alumni and Friends of Montini Catholic,

The 2015-16 school year is a significant and meaningful moment in our school history as it marks the 50th year of Lasallian Education at Montini Catholic. There is so much to celebrate during our 50th Golden Jubilee. It is an opportunity for us to come together as a school community to remember, reminisce and be proud of our accomplishments and achievements. Throughout the school’s history, Montini Catholic has provided its students with the opportunities, educational resources, programs, and facilities to grow in their faith, to learn and achieve academically, to develop talents and skills in extracurricular activities and to lead and serve through community service experiences. Over the last fourteen years, our “Celebrate Our Future … Building On Success” Campaign has been committed to advancing this mission of education by providing present and future students with the very best in educational instruction, facilities, equipment and programs.

As we enter our 50th Golden Jubilee school year, we find ourselves in a moment of great opportunity. We have a chance to build upon the accomplishments of the first three phases of our "Celebrate Our Future...Building On Success Campaign." Please review the initiatives described in the following pages. I ask that you reflect on the impact Montini Catholic has had on your life as you consider your support of Phase IV.

Montini Catholic is a very special school. I hope that you will recognize the promise Phase IV of the campaign holds for the school, its students and its future. Working together, we can achieve our campaign goals and ensure that the Lasallian mission of education continues for the next fifty years. Please join us in celebrating our 50th Anniversary Campaign and “May Jesus Live In Your Hearts…Forever” Sincerely,

James F. Segredo President

Endowment Ensuring the future of our school Previous generations endowed our school with a vision for the future. As we celebrate 50 years of Lasallian, college preparatory education, now is the time for the Montini Catholic school community to continue that legacy shaped by the De La Salle Christian Brothers and the Sisters of St. Dominic of Adrian, Michigan. The growth of the General Endowment Fund and the Scholarship Endowment Fund will help assure the school's long term financial stability and will make a long lasting impact on Montini Catholic students and their future.

current situation:

Twenty-four endowed scholarships totaling $435,600 make up the school's Scholarship Endowment Fund while the General Endowment Fund is $206,000. Montini Catholic is one of the most reasonably priced Catholic, private high schools in the western suburbs of Chicago. However, as tuition and fees continue to grow, many families are finding it more difficult to afford the cost of Catholic education, especially families with younger siblings.

recommendations:

• Raise $500,000 in total donations for the General and Scholarship Endowment Funds which would bring the school's Endowment Fund total revenue to over $1 million dollars

• Earnings from the General Endowment Fund will be directed by the Montini Catholic Board of Directors to meet its mission today and to advance the mission of education in future years. Priority will be given to raise faculty salaries and benefits as well as increasing funding for faculty professional development and continuing education opportunities

• Earnings from the Scholarship Endowment will provide additional revenue to the school's financial aid program and sibling discount program • Provide opportunities for alumni and families to establish named endowed scholarships

Fostering flourishing talent . . . current situation:

The present Music Wing was built in 1983 as part of the East Gymnasium Expansion. Three rooms were constructed for the purpose of instrumental and vocal instruction and rehearsal. Cement block was used in the construction of the rooms and sound insulation and absorption were not incorporated in the plans.

Ten foot ceiling heights were approved for each room. The recommended range of ceiling heights for band and choral rooms is 16 to 22 feet. Individual practice rooms, and recording equipment were not included in the design. Storage space for instruments, equipment, uniforms, sheet music were not adequately provided for in the original design.

Over the past four years, student interest in the Montini Catholic music program has significantly grown, especially in the area of instrumental music.

Currently, 21% of the student body is involved in at least one music class at Montini Catholic. There is enough interest to host a freshmen and varsity band. Our vocal music program consists of freshmen, sophomore, varsity and chamber choir and two acappella music groups.

Recommendations:

• Construction of a new building connected to the southeast corner of the school's gymnasium and the present music instructional space (G Wing) • New construction should consist of two music studios - one for band and one for vocal instruction, office space and recording systems

• Renovate part of the G classroom wing to accommodate the need for individual rehearsal rooms and storage space First Floor Plans of Music Wing

Encouraging fitness and wellness . . .

Montini Catholic High School 50th Anniversary Capital Campaign

Physical Fitness Wing current situation:

The weight room is located in a part of the balcony of the gymnasium. This room is not adequate in size for general student and team use before or after school hours. The room is equipped with free weights and plate loaded free weight machines. There is very little equipment provided for cardiovascular exercise. In addition to the gymnasium weight room, weight equipment is also located in the boys locker room. Having two areas for weight training, at times, presents supervision challenges.

The present weight equipment is also inadequate for the needs of the school's two strength and power physical education classes, regular physical education classes and general student use after school hours.

Recommendations:

• Construct a physical fitness center large enough to allow members of the student body and sport teams to work out at the same time after school

• The fitness center should be built at the northeast corner of the campus which would connect it to the main gymnasium and gymnasium balcony • The new physical fitness center would overlook Duffy Memorial Stadium and the baseball field

• The new physical fitness center should be equipped with weight training machines, cardiovascular fitness equipment, free weights and plate loaded free weight machines to accommodate the needs of the general student body, sport teams, physical education and power and strength classes

campus enhancements current situation: Cafeteria

Many areas of the student cafeteria were renovated in 2009. The renovation consisted of enlarging the kitchen serving area, building new storage areas along the east wall, purchasing new tables and chairs, and the addition of a new audio visual system, a school store and trophy cases.

Classrooms

There are 22 classrooms in the main school building, built in 1966. Over the last 49 years the classrooms have been repainted and new carpeting installed. Light fixtures have also been replaced. The original design did not allow for outdoor lighting.

Boys Locker Room and Coaches Office

With the growth in enrollment and the growth in the number of male sport teams, the original locker room space for students and coaches, designed in 1966, is not adequate in size to meet the needs of the male student body and coaching staff.

16th Street Message Board

The message board on the corner of 16th Street and Meyers Road is not electronic. A school representative needs to change the board manually each week. It is very difficult to advertise more than one event, to keep information current and to announce several student, school and/or team accomplishments.

recommendations:

• Replace the lighting, ventilation and ceiling systems of the student cafeteria

• Renovate the 22 classrooms in the original school building by retrofitting each classroom with energy efficient LED lighting, replace floor carpeting, install new ceiling tiles and upgrade the fire alarm/mass notification system • Total renovation and enlargement of the boys locker room and coaches office area

• Replace the current message board with an electronic message board

Prayer & Reflection Areas current situation:

Montini Catholic’s outside campus does not have any statues representing the Catholic, Lasallian heritage of Montini Catholic High School.

recommendations:

To celebrate and commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Montini Catholic High School, the following two prayer and reflection areas should be erected on the school campus to signify the school's Lasallian mission of education and Catholic heritage:

• St. John Baptist de La Salle prayer and reflection area featuring a statue of the founder of the De La Salle Christian Brothers

• Blessed Mother prayer and reflection area • Landscaping improvements, paved walkway, lighting and seating should be included in each of these areas
