welcome

Dear Friends of Montini catholic,

on behalf of the Maroon & Gold Gala committee and the entire Montini catholic school community, i would like to extend a very special thank you guests of our 28th annual Maroon & Gold Gala. Your attendance and participation is certainly appreciated. We hope that you have a very enjoyable evening. e proceeds from our Gala and champions club Raffle benefit all of the academic, extracurricular and community service programs of our school. Based on the size of our student body, Montini catholic is considered by many to be a mid-size catholic high school. Based on the number of academic, extracurricular and community service programs that are available to our students, however, we consider ourselves to be a school that rivals many of the larger public schools in the western suburbs.

e continual success of our Gala and champions club Raffle has played an important role in providing our Board of Directors and our school’s administration with the funds necessary to grow our academic, extracurricular and community service learning programs. Montini offers 136 academic courses including our one-to-one iPad program, a full stEM curriculum, 26 athletic teams, 32 clubs and organizations, 2 habitat for humanity trips, 1 international Mission trip and numerous weekend community service opportunities. it is the support and generosity provided by you that allows us to offer an outstanding catholic, lasallian college preparatory experience. i would also like to thank our Maroon & Gold Gala leadership committee and our champions club Raffle committee. it takes a great deal of time and many volunteers to organize and conduct an event of this size and i am truly grateful for all the time and effort they have invested. Finally, a special thank you to our donors, sponsors, underwriters and participants who have generously supported this event. Your generosity and commitment to the students of Montini catholic make a difference. ank you again! You have all “Touched the Hearts” of our students with your support! May Jesus Live In Your Hearts…Forever! sincerely,

Jim segredo President

Faran Fronczak credits much of her success to her experiences, memories, and the faculty from Montini Catholic: • Mr. Segredo being a living example to students about respect and being a good person to everyone you meet. • Mrs. Raike's 4-years of Spanish honors classes are where Faran learned Spanish culture, music, and ultimately became fluent in the language - it helped make the people of El Paso like her even more! • Mrs. Keogh's challenging writing assignments and constructive criticism helped Faran become a more confident writer.

Matt Wind and

• Mr. Izzo's social studies debates not only made Faran love history, but taught her the importance of learning both sides of the argument, which transcended into her journalism career. • Despite not being a "numbers person," it was Mr. Marcoux who taught Faran that just because you don't understand it the first time, doesn't mean you never will. • Dr. Mordente's passion for learning and understanding the Bible, and his being a living example to students on how to be a good, practicing Catholic was an inspiration to Faran.

• Coach Joe Hyland's dedication, coaching, and life lessons Faran learned, while competing on the girls track team, are lessons she still carries with her today. • Coach Eugenia Scavone's drive, work ethic, and challenging Broncettes’ routines helped Faran go on to dance for Purdue University and the Chicago Bulls. • Coach Andriano’s and Ms. Westerkamp's "square dancing" unit helped Faran become a more "well rounded" dancer. It also taught her not to take life so seriously!

Faran Meet

Tonight’s Emcee

Faran Fronczak is a 2005 graduate of Montini catholic high school. she attended Purdue University and north central college, majoring in Broadcast Journalism. From there, Faran moved 90-miles west to the "9th Most Dangerous City" at the time, Rockford, illinois, where she covered crime and politics for WiFR, the cBs affiliate.

Faran went on to FoX28 in south Bend, in, where she started as the FoX28 "ride-a-long" morning show reporter. she has flown in a 1940's biplane and performed stunts, jumped into frozen lakes to complete ice rescues, tested the breaks of a BMW on black ice at 80 miles an hour, and learned how to drive a military MRAP tank, tow a truck in 12 ft. of snow, and how to drive a snow plow! And this was all on liVE tV! in just 18-months after arriving in south Bend, Faran was promoted to the morning anchor, and then nightly news anchor for FoX28, most notably covering obama's second trip to south Bend, then Governor Pence's Vice Presidential nomination, and every 2016 Presidential candidate's trip through Michiana. Faran then moved 1,100 miles southwest to El Paso, texas, where she was the main anchor for nBc news channel 9. While in El Paso, she covered all things politics and issues on the border in both English and spanish. Faran also adopted a dog from just over the border in Juarez, Mexico - Buddy - where the two went through "therapy training" so Buddy could visit the local children's hospitals. Faran also was involved with local veterans stationed at Fort Bliss and the salvation Army. Most recently, Faran was the morning anchor for the ABc affiliate in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she covered the Michigan Primary and the annual Art Prize contest. her story "Faran & Meryn Take Art Prize: e National Contest rough the Eyes of a 2-Year-Old" was nominated for an EMMY Award, with the results being announced in May. Faran has danced professionally in the nBA as a "luvabull" for the chicago Bulls, and was also the captain of the Purdue Dance team, helping the team win a 4th Place national title in 2008. now as an alumni, Faran loves coming back to her alma mater. Whether it's teaching students for Montini career Day about the field of broadcast journalism, or helping produce and choreograph the Montini Fashion show. Faran says, "Montini not only gave me an amazing education, it also helped to shape me to be the person who i am today. i will forever be grateful."

Joslyn’sStory

Student Testimony

During her junior year, Montini catholic was already congratulating senior Joslyn Boyer for her commitment to join the University of iowa’s hawkeye Volleyball program! But, Joslyn’s successful and inspiring volleyball career only tells a fraction of the All conference athlete’s Bronco story.

Joslyn is a great leader and dedicated student who participates in almost every event and encourages her peers, from freshmen to senior, to do the same. She was an integral part of helping start our ‘Game Day Kickoffs’ for football, and has been very helpful with suggesting and running fun events for Student Government. I've had her in class for two years and she has maintained that same dedication through her participation and work ethic! She truly is an inspiring Bronco!” - Montini catholic teacher & class Moderator for student Government Ms. Megan steiner ‘10

roughout her high school life, she has been nothing less than a dedicated student and athlete - and doesn’t show signs of slowing down! in addition to her passion for volleyball, Joslyn is a member of Montini’s lacrosse and track teams. she represents Montini catholic to prospective students as a student Ambassador and is known for her bright smile and friendly personality always putting nervous, grade school visitors at ease. she is also a member of the national honor society and Montini’s student Government and she stepped up to become student Government treasurer this year. she currently plans to go to the tippie college of Business at the University of iowa, but is still discerning her many options. "Marketing seems to be a good fit for my personality," she has said. "Pursuing a career that combines social media and marketing is really interesting to me." it is no doubt that she has made her parents, Brooks and Julie Boyer, very proud. "My parents were both very excited when i made my commitment to iowa. ey have had to drive me to countless games, tournaments, and training sessions," she said. "My mom has been my biggest fan and coach all at the same time. ere is no way this would have happened without her." she was quick to add, "Dad has coached me in about any other sport you can think of. he taught me how to compete, but most importantly, how to lead." “i love telling people i am from Montini! i have friends at a lot of different schools and i am appreciative of how good we have it here. our teachers and counselors ‘get it’ and they cheer for our success while pushing us to be better. our coaches expect us to compete and be humble in victory and defeat. i have met the best possible group of friends with all sorts of different backgrounds that have made my experience great in the classroom, in the halls, on the court, or the field. i don’t know why anyone wouldn’t want to come to Montini and be a Bronco!”

When it was time for Mary sue and Joe to pick a high school for their eldest of five children, they toured Montini catholic and were amazed and thrilled to discover that Montini had that same family atmosphere that they remembered from their Providence days. e decision to send their five children (lisa ‘01, Michael ‘03, Ryan ‘05, Erin ‘07 and Kevin ‘10) to Montini became an easy one. since the fall of 1997, when their daughter lisa entered Montini catholic as a freshmen, Joe and Mary sue have been involved and supportive of the school's mission of education. over the 13 years that their children attended Montini catholic, Mary sue was an active member of the Parent's club and volunteered her time to help with the Fashion show and the spring Fling Auction (which is now the Maroon & Gold Gala). Frank ‘86 and Linda Conforti & Frankie’s Deli rankie’s Deli was started in 1964 by Frank’s parents, Frank and connie conforti, in chicago. in 1976 they moved the business to lombard and opened Yorktown Deli.

in 2000, Frank took the business over and moved to a larger store, calling it Frankie's Deli. Being so close to Montini catholic, Frank enjoys the opportunity to get to see many of his classmates as well as the faculty members when they visit the store. “i'm not sure if it is the good food or the donations that keeps Mr. segredo coming in all these years, but i'm glad he does!”

"Over the years, our kids spent more time here, with great faculty and coaches, than at home with us, so it was very important that they were guided by some of the best!"

When their children were getting to the age of attending high school, Frank was sure that Montini was the perfect fit for them. linda, however, wasn’t as sure. Frank knew that the best way for her to experience Montini was to start going to school events like football games as well as the annual gala. it didn't take long for linda to see how the Bronco experience is second to none. When linda witnessed the family environment at Montini, and everyone knowing each other she was completely sold! Frank jokes that today linda may be more of a supporter of the school than he is! e confortis sent all three children to Montini catholic - Mario ‘13, christina ‘15, and Frankie, who will graduate this May. Frank enjoys seeing many of his classmates and their children. “i know my children have met many good friends here and they will always have them in their life.” Frank’s best friend in high school, Jim Verdi ‘86, was the best man at Frank and linda’s wedding and is also the Godfather to christina. “ese are the friendship that you make at Montini. We have met such great families here, friends who will be in our lives forever.”

- Frank conforti ‘86

“e best thing about being involved at Montini is seeing first hand how the school affects the kids here. i spend a lot of time here and i've seen young kids come here as freshman and then i see them leave as young men and women, off to start their lives. i'm glad i got to meet so many of the kids - especially this year being my last as a parent - i really enjoyed getting involved with Frankie and his friends. i am really proud of what he and his classmates have accomplished while at Montini. it will be sad to see them go, but i know that they will eventually come back to Montini and i’ll be here to see them!” “i credit Montini for my success as well as the success of my kids. i know over the years our kids spent more time here, with great faculty and coaches, than at home with us, so it was very important that they were guided by some of the best!”
