Measles – don’t let your child catch it Your child is at risk of measles if they haven’t had the MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccination. Measles can be a very serious disease, leading to ear and chest infections, seizures (fits), diarrhoea, damage to the brain or even death. Two doses of MMR vaccine are needed to get the best protection. The MMR vaccine is one of the most studied vaccines and millions of doses are given every year, this means the MMR vaccine is safe to be given to your child. If you can’t remember if your child has had two doses of the MMR vaccine, check their personal child health record (Red Book). If you are still unsure, speak to your GP surgery. To book an MMR vaccine for your child, call your GP surgery.
