Guest Writers This month we are very fortunate to have input from several guest writers, one of whom has already advertised with us and the others are all therapists in their own right. Elaine Thompson I have had the pleasure of knowing Elaine for many years and owe her a huge debt of gratitude as it was she who helped me come to terms with all the fantastic changes I was experienced as I set out on my path into the age of Aquarius. She taught me so much about me as a person and about meditation, healing, working with crystals and lots more. As a musician I became fascinated with Elaine’s work that uses sound as a healing tool and I regard her contribution to the pages of Connect North Devon as a testimony to our friendship and the publishing of her article is the least I can do to go some way to saying thank you for all the teaching through the years. William Pickersgill Better known to me as Billy he is responsible for providing the information that relates to the useful benefits of honey. I knew that Billy was a person of great depth from the moment that I first met him, but little did I know then just how deep he was. He is a kind, generous person who has been gifted with skills in the culinary arts and on my first visit to his home he was busy preparing a wedding buffet for some 70 - 80 people and yet he still made time to sit and chat. Over time I have learned that Billy is a healer, a great listener and above all, a wonderful friend.

Letter from Linda Hello Readers I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and I wish you a Happy New Year. Today I am writing about the PH Balance in your body. PH is the relationship between acid and base (alkaline) and is scientifically quantified on a scale of 1—14. 7 is neutral, below is acid above basic. With imbalance come the signs of disease, aches and pains, foggy thinking, fatigue, the list is endless and can lead to major disease. Many people have extremely unbalanced body chemistry due to unhealthy diets and lifestyles. According to Dr Robert Young and Shelley Redford Young in their book “The PH Miracle” the PH level of our internal fluid affects the cells in our bodies. Our metabolic process depends on an alkaline environment. If our bodies have chronic overacidity it corrodes body tissue and if left unchecked will interrupt cellular and other body functions. Mould and fungus thrive in a body high in acid. Our circulatory system tries to get rid of acid waste build up by depositing in various organs which leads to illness. The average Western diet is more or less imbalanced and acidic. When we have a balanced PH our health improves and we have much more energy. It is easy to test your PH balance at home. You can buy PH paper strips from a chemist shop. You dip the strip into your urine first thing in the morning. The strip indicates acid or base by colour change, depending on the intensity of the reading. If you find you have too much acid a change of diet will help to balance the PH in your body. Base (alkaline) food such as lots of veg. Salad, green smoothies, virgin cold pressed oil and low sugar fruit bell peppers, avocado, tomato, etc. Starches, such as bread, pasta, potatoes turn into sugar in the body - sugar is VERY ACIDIC. Drink plenty of uncarbonated water (carbonated turns acidic in the body) to flush out the lymph system. If you want to understand more about PH read “The PH Miracle” it is a must for anyone wanting to be healthy. I wish you all good health and happiness, Bye for now, Linda. 2013, The Great Shift, and the potential it could usher in - An Article by William Murtha Global Visionaries Several years ago, I launched what was ultimately to become a pioneering 4-year initiative titled- The Global Visionaries Project. The project evolved into an uplifting book- 100 Words: 200 Visionaries Share Their Hope for the Future, and the core purpose of this inspirational initiative was to discover everything that was going right in the world. Better still, it also allowed me to shine a light on just some of the incredible people behind those uplifting stories and initiatives- 500 of them, from all backgrounds and persuasions. It was enlightening and totally absorbing. Sages, scientists, spiritual teachers, healers, medical practitioners, ecologists, environmentalists, writers, philosophers, physicists, teachers…a cross section were all invited to contribute just a small piece of themselves. What they gifted the project was landscapes of incredible universal hope, painting a clear picture of not only where our blue planet sits today. They also delivered profound insights into who we are, what drives us, and possibly, where we are heading to in the near future. As you can imagine, the whole experience was riveting, and for countless reasons too. Not least, my keen fascination with the much talked about 2012, change, end of Mayan Calendar, ‘the planet’s going to end’, type of thing. Like many others, for several years leading up to the 21st December 2012, I’d been highly fascinated (and occasionally alarmed, even), by the torrent of wild prophecies spewing out negativity into the mass media. On the darker side, we all read stories of dooming prophecies foretelling of catastrophic, lifealtering events. We sometimes endured disaster movies where the end signalled an obliteration of all life. Apart from, of course, the token few Hollywood heroes! We also heard of doom mongering tales, everything from meteors crippling planet earth, right through to pandemics that could wipe out every human being. Over time, they all crept their way into the deep, dark depths of our collective consciousness. Scaring us, and terrifying us. Well, thankfully, we’re now the other side of 2012, and much like you, I’m relieved to still be here. Alive, breathing and full of hope for what the next few decades could possibly usher in. 2013 So, if we have survived the much publicized horror stories of total annihilation and extermination, what kind of life now awaits us in our possible future? What kind of changing society and culture are we humans deemed to create? Will we perhaps continue to sleepwalk through our own self-destructing habits? Or will our relatively young race eventually wake up in time, and become more consciously aware of our true connection to both the earth and one another? None of us can predict the future, but thankfully, we can assist in helping to reshape a new and more connected path ahead. What I discovered when bringing together The Global Visionaries Project is that, far from pondering (and fearing) a deep sense of loss and hope, there are in fact increasing numbers of collective new thinkers emerging and out there already. All working tirelessly, hoping to create a fairer and more ethical way of living in the world. Surprisingly, much of this positive news isn’t reported in the mainstream headlines. Why? Because nothing grips our attention more than a compelling mass disaster. Bad news sells. It demands our attention and strangles our positivity. And morebad news sadly disempowers us, leaving us hopeless and fearful. To combat this, I instead wanted to share the other side of the news story. I wanted to show an altogether more uplifting possibility, which is probably why this project was greeted so favourably by an eclectic range of world wide change-makers. Getting them to commit a short, specially written piece, (what I called a ‘vision statement of hope’), was the easier part. Not so simple, however, was trying to persuade these visionaries to point out where this

2013 The Great Shift……… continued positive shift may come from, and what form it would take. Ever impatient, I wanted to know how quickly it would happen. What signs would be the early indicators? Additionally, I wanted to know the contributor’s hopes, their dreams, their philosophy and their beliefs. The written ‘visions of hope’ throughout the book, (collected and woven together), was the answer to those simple but profound questions. Too good to be true? At first glance, and without looking too deeply, to most of us it may seem ridiculous to even envisage a modern society that is actually waking up and becoming highly conscious. After all, where’s the concrete proof? Where’s the clues, the positive signs, the visible social changes? All we appear to see recently, on the 6, o’ clock news, are nothing but mass shootings, suicide bombers, corrupt governments, unethical tax avoiding companies, continual wars, and equally depressing, an ever growing gap between the haves and the have-nots. Doesn’t exactly paint an image of an awakening human race, does it? Perhaps we expected way too much of the future, pre 2012. Perhaps we expected way too much of ourselves. But once we scratch off the oppressively negative veneer of the doom obsessed media, we just may discover that much more is actually going on under the surface. You cannot heal something until you at least take ownership of it. You cannot fix something until you first admit that it’s flawed or broken. Well, that’s precisely what seems to be going on around our world today. We appear to be bringing up into the light, all the past hurts and denied feelings, be it personally, collectively or globally. And that is the only way for the past to be healed- for us all to honestly admit that we’re presently on the wrong track. If we want change, real change, and a visible shift in ethics, beliefs and principles post 2012, then we’d better face the harsh truth and reality that, it just may get a little bumpy on the way first. Big, fundamental changes in society’s core values, never occurs without at least some pain. History tells us that truth. After collecting together many of the positive insights and wisdom from the contributing Visionaries, my sole belief is that society and culture really ARE now radically shifting into a higher dimension. The signs are evident. Real, fundamental change is indeed shining through, albeit slower than many of us would prefer. This is also true for corporate companies as well. You only have to witness the growing annoyance of countless social movements and media, all intent on bringing large Corporates to justice. Be it tax evasion or other unethical practices. Be it irresponsible attitudes to the planet or its inhabitants. There truly is a collective sense that this amazing change is happening, and all you need do is tune into this uprising of conscious activism. We are steadily realigning our core belief systems. We are all beginning to stand up for what we truly believe in: what’s fair, what’s not, what is acceptable, ethical and sustainable. In doing so, we’re deeply analysing what’s no longer working for us, and what is fair. You only have to remember the disgraceful behaviour of Britain’s MPs during the expenses scandal. When the whole sorry tale of embezzlement was finally exposed, some MPs lost their gilt-edged livelihoods- and so they should. Especially when so many of us have to change our lifestyles and cut back. Others MP’s were practically shamed into admission or forced to change their unethical behaviour. And why? Because the every-day person in the street could no longer stomach the sheer hypocrisy of it all. Twenty years ago, the sorry tale of politician’s fiddled expenses wouldn’t have even found the headlines. But fortunately, today, it does matter, and we do care with a deep passion. We care because we’re more educated, more socially connected, and equally importantly, we are more conscious of the real, damning facts. We’ve finally found our collective voice to embrace true activism.

2013 The Great Shift……… continued Other recent discoveries show a race that is in fact radically awakening, and fast: the drip-feeding of apologies by British governments to previous colonial and empire nations; the unsavoury phone-tapping debacle by our mainstream media; sex scandals; child abuse; the past, hidden horrors of the Christian Church …it almost appears at first glance as though our world is painfully going to hell and back. However, look much deeper into the reality of what’s actually taking place, and you’ll see that that the previously denied ills of the past are rising up for a reason. To be addressed and then healed. Society, (which includes all of us, the good and the bad), is seemingly being confronted by its own dark shadow to look more closely at itself, and in doing so, this is heightening a collective will to finally change for the better. Perhaps these previously hidden truths are now waking us up from our collective sleep. Paradigm shift in human capacity So if there are ‘way-showers’ out there, leaders and luminaries who are now championing for better equality, human rights and social fairness, what precisely is their collective message? What do these seers and change-makers hope to eventually inspire us to do? What do they wish to reveal? More specifically, what does this all-important next 20 years of changing times expect to ignite in us, be it ecological survival, rising emotions, or even, a very different type of economics. One opinion is being increasingly accepted across scientific circles, and that’s the knowledge that our human abilities are greatly expanding, developing and evolving. Just as there’s a technological advance in the planet becoming more connected, (via a worldwide electronic web), it’s also being mirrored in our human faculties. It’s being increasingly accepted that all of us are somehow intrinsically linked to a universal web of energy-described by quantum physicists as ‘The Field’. And that these invisible particle threads somehow bond us to every other living particle on earth. Seem like science fiction to you? Too unbelievable? Not at all. Not in the academia of new physics, anyway, where growing numbers of professionals, scientists, healers and teachers are each putting forward their progressively enlightening ideas. These are expanded theories that really are demonstrating a radical acceleration in our human capacity to actually feel the emotions of others in our own body (empathy); to increase our levels of perception, sensitivity and intuition. Equally incredible is the notion that, in the next two decades, many of us will heighten our ability to tune into unseen dimensions, plains and frequencies. Only, this time, without using powerful, hallucinating drugs. Our heightened human abilities have always been there, instinctual, and deeply embedded in our subconscious and psyche. It is written into our genetic code. Only now, and for whatever divine reason, this seems to be the perfect time when our higher faculties are actually being awakened within our body. Something seems to be radically altering and stirring in our genetic make-up, how we’re wired, what we are capable of. In doing so, we are gaining a better ability of how to tune into and connect with others more profoundly. Perhaps for far too long now, mankind has falsely believed in its misled and inherited story- that we are all separate in the world, detached from one another, animals and Mother Nature. While in fact, the opposite is true, contrary to Decartes and his philosophies. We are connected to nature because we too are PART of nature. We are all part of the very same organism, we breathe the same air, and as cellular biology clearly teaches us, on a level of sub-atomic particles, we are all intrinsically linked. New Science From my extensive research, coupled with mountainous feedback from the Global Visionaries Project, I know we are somehow connected on a deeper level of reality. Instinct tells me that. Experience too. We may not always be confident how to first contextualise and then share these growing new sensitivities with other people. Nor prolific enough and confident enough to actually articulate them, make real sense of them. But they are real, and as we charge into 2013 and beyond, what waits for us will be the growing awareness that we function on so many more senses than the limited five we’ve been conditioned to believe in. I’d like to say sixth-sense, but that would be way too simplistic and limiting, as I feel we actually tap into numerous other energy fields not yet fully understood.

2013 The Great Shift……… continued If the level of the planet’s consciousness really is rising fast (as predicted by the Ancients and indigenous elders of this time), then sooner or later, we will feel this emotional and planetary shift. It’s inevitable and it’s unavoidable- even if we may initially deny it. Quite incredibly, in the coming years, it’s also being widely accepted that the laws of physics will have to be rewritten- such are the profound truths being scientifically uncovered at the world renowned institute and laboratory at CERN in Switzerland. As reported in the global media, CERN’s main operation is to test what happens to tiny, subatomic particles when they collide in a chamber at warp-drive speeds. Although the ground-breaking findings are still early, initial indications point to erratic behaviour patterns occurring amongst tested particles- behaviours that radically sit way outside current physical laws. What will these results ultimately prove you may ask? Well, if early forecasts are true, what we’ll eventually uncover are not only new, more challenging universal laws of how matter and energy function in the universe. We will also be shown phenomenal, mind-bending truths about our place and purpose in the cosmos. We will come to realise that our consciousness, our thoughts, and especially, our emotions, play an enormous part in helping us all to create our very own reality. In effect, and incredibly, that deems us effective co-creators in this entire universal story of life. And in doing so, we come to the wonderful knowledge that we are powerful beyond imagination.
William Murtha is a person that I have known for some 13 or so years and during that time he has changed considerably. The high flying executive with all the associated trappings of that lifestyle changed dramatically following an event that to most of us seems beyond our comprehension. William is one of the special number of people who have undergone and survived what we know as a Near Death Experience (NDE). The follow on to this experience left William a completely changed man, by his own admission he has become gentler, broader thinking, more receptive and open to change and new ideas. He has left behind the fast paced, executive life and has now taken a more reflective and more relaxed pathway through life. He is a respected author and is no stranger to public speaking, and I for one am now proud to include him amongst my list of close friends. I would like to thank William for his contribution to Connect North Devon as a guest writer and look forward to receiving more of his insightful words as the magazine grows and progresses.

Tarot Scope by Delphine TAROT SCOPE FOR FEBRUARY 2013 AND MARCH 2013 ARIES - you may find yourself being called to make decisions where you are required to take into account others view points. Its a time to be true to your self and your inner nature so that any decisions you make are fair and just. LEO - hold on to your horses Leo, you'll get what you want but not by rushing in. Just make sure you do know exactly what you are getting yourself into first. Plan exactly want you want and leave no stone unturned if you are gathering information. Once you have done this you can sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labour and have a well earned rest.
VIRGO - the trick is to work for what you want in a way that gets things done but also saves you time and energy. This could mean engaging the help of others or simply planning things properly otherwise you may make things hard for yourself and then wonder if there is ever going to be an end in sight. Look at the bigger picture and it will all come together.

Tarot Scope continued... SCORPIO - in order to protect your assets you need to focus on the solution rather than the problem. You can be resourceful when you want to be and it's time to take a deep breath, dig deep and do what needs to be done. Tomorrow may be a new day but procrastination will get you nowhere and neither will putting your head in the sand.
SAGITTARIUS - If you find yourself restricted in some way remember that there is a way out. You've just got to look for the light at the end of the tunnel and follow it. It may mean that you need to change things by adapting to the situation, but that shouldn't be hard for you. However, if you need help don't be afraid to ask for it either.
CAPRICORN - You may find changes happening that are outside your control. This can be frustrating and it may feel at times that you are going in the wrong direction but brute force is not the answer here. Softly softly to catch a monkey. Let things happen naturally. Your time will come and it's not as far away as you think.
AQUARIUS - sometimes to find the answers we need to let go and step back from the situation. Once we do this the solution often becomes much clearer and we are left feeling as though a weight has been lifted off our shoulders. That's because when are to close the problem often appears much worse than it actually is. Take some time out to pamper yourself and you will see exactly what I mean.
PISCES—looks can be deceiving. Scratch beneath the surface and you will see the truth. But you need to be honest with yourself. Whenever someone or something shows you who or what they really are, believe them. Take this philosophy with you wherever you go over the next few weeks and you won't go far wrong.

Sound TherapyUK….a revolution in the way we deal with our health and wellbeing. As you may have read, I wrote an article on sound therapy for this magazine last month. Dave has kindly asked me to write another, and as I was pondering the subject to cover, I was suddenly inspired by a book that I was reading last night. Part of the work I do within sound therapy, is as a clinical hypnotherapist. One thing that is important in all of our lives is not only what we eat, but even more, what we think as well. Deep-seated beliefs about our world, our lives, and the things around us,sometimes create the biggest problems in our lives, and lead to really difficult health problems, both emotional and physical. This is the one reason why I decided to train as a Clinical Hypnotherapist; to be able to use hypnotherapy with my clients to help them change the beliefs that are creating the problems. Coming back to the book I was reading last night, which is called – ‘Dying to be Me’. It tells the truly amazing story of a near death experience, connection to spirit and loved ones resulting in a spectacular, virtually immediate complete healing of final stage cancer of the lymphatic system. The woman who is writing the book was on her deathbed, all her organs had shut down, her lungs were filled with fluid, and all of her family were gathered around in the intensive care ward as these were her last moments. She was covered in lesions, could not eat, had no body weight whatsoever, and was expected to die at any moment. What is revealed in this book is the power that we all have to heal ourselves immediately of any disease, any problem you could possibly think of; and it's all about awareness of who you really are and such monumental empowerment of the self,-- illustrating that nothing is impossible. We will have that power inside us right now, but 99.9% of us do not know this, and have no idea how to access this amazing state of being. For the author it took a near-death experience to show her that her negative thinking had caused the cancer, and that she alone had the power to change it in an instant. All our thoughts, beliefs, feelings, and emotions have frequency. They are all stored within our body, and together they form the pattern platform throughout which we live our lives. Our beliefs, desires, and values all go together to drive the way we act, think and feel. Using sound therapy to alter these frequency patterns is a unique and extremely useful tool, but sometimes we have to go one step further, using hypnosis to access those parts of us which are so well protected within the subconscious mind, that the only way to access them is to ask the conscious mind to be quiet and stand aside. We can then talk directly to the subconscious mind, access and reframe the beliefs, and allow the part of us which is our soul /spirit or true self to take the driver’s seat. It all boils down to living in joy and happiness, empowerment and freedom to be who you really are without any of the constraints of worrying about what other people think about you; and whether you are deemed by your elected peers to be a ‘bad or irresponsible person’ if you act in a certain way or follow your heart's desire. It takes great courage to follow your heart in normal circumstances, but when you have seen your inner potential and discovered who you really are then living in such a way is easy. We spent so much of our time wrapped up with worrying about our internal judgments of things being right or wrong, good or bad, that we fail to see that all things just are the way they are.

By placing continual judgment we put artificial boundaries and problems in our path all the time. This is not to say we cannot be discerning as to whether we like something or not, but rather this concerns deepseated beliefs about many things, such as religion, family dynamics, our personal view of ourselves, and other people's behaviour. We can be our own worst enemies at times, and we create the problems that make us ill, drive us to distraction, and sometimes lead to premature death. So if you want to change your state of being, your state of health, and your state of mind, think about not only reading this amazing book ‘Dying to be Me’. Think about having a revue of the way you think and act, feel and speak; because the frequencies that you generate from your deep-seated beliefs are those which run your life and govern your physical and emotional self. If you want change your state of health and mind, then take action and do something about it today. Only you have the power to make the choices that can take you down the pathway to health and happiness; but first you have to recognize that you have these problems, and then take positive action to change. Change is the one thing that frightens us all the most, as most of us feel secure within our own comfort zone of known habits and ways of life. I therefore challenge you, if there's something in your life that isn't going well, or something in your state of health that isn't as you would wish it, read the book to feel inspired, and then get up and take action. Elaine has been a practitioner and trainer for the last twenty years in the UK and has pioneered the way forward with her sound therapy work. Keep On Keeping On!…………A Conversation with Valery L Coburn I’ve been listening and reading in various places to feed back from folks on their outcomes from the 12/12 and 21-12-12 expected events. Over the first few weeks of January many were comparing their notes. Generally the feed back was mainly of disappointments that nothing mind blowing had actually happened, as most had thought it might. Some meditated on this at length and yet still received very mediocre insights. For myself I have to say it was also pretty uneventful, but I’m not sure I had any great expectation of anything specific happening. I think I had interpreted it as an energy shift pure and simple. I did feel an energy shift it is true to say, it was subtle but definitely noticeable. How one interprets this though is another thing entirely. However, I have observed with interest just how many have been unwell since as well as around this time? Strange viruses and infections, whatever you want to call them have been experienced by many people. These seem to have been lasting a fair length of time and have really got people down. I’m not sure what to deduce from this other than to say, what is hidden has to come to the surface to be dealt with. So I do see such things as times of clearing and cleansing, so maybe the length of time that this continued was reflective of the depth of the clearing that was needed. This of course is all supposition on my part but it still raises my curiosity. What ever we may or may not have experienced from those dates in December, a shift of energy definitely did occur and the results we are all subject to in some way or other. I have found myself often signing off a letter with the words ‘keep on keeping on’ as I have always felt there is such strength in this message. More now than ever as we come through the winter days of bitter cold and dark and gloomy skies do we need to hang on to this profound message. As we head toward the light and the warmth and sunshine of spring with all of its glorious re-birthing, I feel my heart lift once again. We know this is what comes next, and it is ‘knowing’ that is important now I feel for us all. Let go of when where and how, and step away from hoping into knowing. Hoping has always seemed one step too far away for me. My ‘knowings’ bring me such a sense of power within. Knowing empowers our energy and changes the vibration way beyond hope, and gives assurance that all is well. So that is to be my focus now that I share with you, move from hope to knowing that all will be well. This brings with it a sense of calmness and peace and gratitude, for all is in Divine right order, always. Keep on Keeping On Love Always Valery
With Boundless Blessings and Abundant Love

Notes Concerning Honey Part2 Compiled by Healer and Therapist - William Pickersgill The second part in this series looks at a range of simple treatments using this wonderful substance Honey to heal wounds Wounds such as cuts, grazes, scrape when covered with honey and bandage is an excellent healer Benefits of honey: Digestion Mix honey and apple cider vinegar in equal proportion, dilute with water. This wonder drink aids digestion and eases joint inflammation Honey to cool your throat after pungent food Trickle down a teaspoon of honey down the throat for inflamed raw tissues for sore throat. If you have eaten any thing pungent, spicy and feel your tongue burning after downing glasses of water. Eat a spoonful of honey to appease your taste buds. Honey as a energy booster A spoon of honey is an instant pick-me-up, giving you the much needed boost of energy. Alternatively 25% of honey with water is a good stabilizer to calm highs and raise lows. Calcium utilization A teaspoon of honey per day aids calcium utilization and prevents osteoporosis Good for your heart Heart patients are advised to replace white sugar with honey that has natural fructose and glucose. Honey to help Asthma patients Chewing the tops of honey combs for 20 minutes a teaspoon of bee capping; five to six times a day stimulates the immune system. It?s effective for asthma patients. Honey for Longevity Regular users of honey are most long lived people. Beekeepers are known to suffer less from cancer, arthritis than any other working group worldwide. Effective use of honey during migraine attacks For people who have frequent migraine attacks, should sip a dessert spoon of honey dissolved in half a glass of warm water at the start of the attack. Repeat after 20 minutes if needed. Its effective as migraine is stress related. Honey during conjunctivitis Honey dissolved in equal quantity of warm water is good lotion or eyebath for the conjunctivitis (pus in the eye). Benefits of honey: Curing coughs Mix 6 oz. of liquid honey, 2 oz. of glycerin and juice of two lemons. Mix well, store it bottle with a tight screw cap and use when required. An instant home made remedy for cough. Honey as a food preservative Honey is good food preservative. While baking cakes by replacing sugar with honey, they will stay fresher longer due to natural antibiotics as honey retains moisture. Honey as a multi-vitamin Few teaspoons of honey say four; to a baby’s bottle of water is an excellent pacifier and multivitamin additive. Arthritis Mixing one part honey to two parts lukewarm water with a teaspoon of cinnamon, you can create a paste that will reduce arthritis pain within a couple of minutes. Drinking one cup of hot water with two spoons of honey and one spoon of cinnamon each morning and evening can help arthritis sufferers, even chronic cases if used regularly. This remedy has been studied at Copenhagen University, which found that a mixture of one tablespoon of honey mixed with half a teaspoon of cinnamon before breakfast helped arthritis patients. Seventy-three of the 200 in the study reported relief within one week, and within one month the patients could walk without pain.
