Sometimes as parents we have a certain picture in mind of what our children should dress like. While we have the best intentions at heart, allowing children to choose their clothes and dress themselves promotes independence in several ways. By letting your child decide what they want to wear each day, they're learning to have opinions, and express them while making decisions, which will help them throughout life.
Learning to get dressed builds your child's confidence and gives them a sense of achievement. Your child is building independence in so many ways. Plus, once your child can dress themselves, helping them get dressed is one less thing for you to do. Getting dressed helps your child develop many other skills.
With winter weather approaching, giving your child the time and opportunity to put their winter gear independently helps with problem-solving (figuring out what to put on first: snowpants before mittens), fine motor skills (learning to zip or button), and helping to prepare them for preschool or kindergarten.

Class Structure: Parents and children spend the first hour together working on activities the teacher and room provides. Then we transition into circle time, which may consist of music, finger plays, movement activities, books, flannel board stories, puppets and other child-centered activities. The second hour parents discuss topics of interest with each other and a licensed parent educator. Children enjoy play time, remaining with a licensed early childhood educator. You know your child best. If your child is not ready to separate, you can stay with your child the entire class.
