Drawn to art, in all its forms… From painting, printmaking, metals, and textiles, to assemblage, jewellery, glass, and ceramics, there’s something to suit all tastes at Drawn to the Valley arts events this summer.

extraordinary - he is a ballpoint pen artist, and his incredibly detailed pieces are created by using a Bic biro for his monochromes and Staedtler ballpoint pens for his colour drawings. Tavistock couple Gill and Andy Cairns will also be showing their diverse art: Gill is a collage, mixed media, textiles, and watercolour artist, while Andy works in assemblage, often using old, weathered materials that bring their own histories to the pieces.

Tavistock Annual Summer Exhibition

The artists’ collective kick off their showcase events at Butchers’ Hall, where around 100 of the group’s artists will be showing and selling their work. Laure Bury from Mary Tavy was one of the founder members in 2003. She will be exhibiting some of her most recent impressionistic oil paintings on canvas. Laure’s colourful paintings reflect her love of the place where she lives and the nature that flourishes in her partiallyrewilded garden. Matt Kavanagh from Tavistock joined Drawn to the Valley last year and is exhibiting in the event for the first time. Matt’s drawings are quite

Open Studios 70 Drawn to the Valley artists will be taking part in this year’s Open Studios. The art trail meanders up the Tamar Valley on both sides of the river, from Plymouth and Rame on the south coast, up to Mary Tavy and Launceston. Some artists are joining together to offer a range of art in shared studios, including eight artists based at Tavistock Library, offering a series of demonstrations and workshops so you can try your hand at

different techniques, from drawing to embroidery and jewellery making (£5 per workshop for materials). Pastels artist Daphne Leeworthy and acrylics painter John Pettitt, meanwhile, are holding their shared open studio at The Pavilion at Lydford Sports Hall. Within the West Devon and Dartmoor area, visitors can also visit solo open studios in Yelverton, Lewdown and Longcross, where ceramicist Corinne Wright is opening up her pottery and studio.
