Presentation of Czech design abroad

The exhibition opening of the design duo Vrtiška & Žák: For Good Design was complemented on the following day by a debate on the presentation of Czech design abroad, where many interesting speakers took the floor.

Vladimír Žák and Roman Vrtiška presented their collaboration on behalf of USSPA, opening the first section of presentations. Klára Poliakov, Marketing Director of Lasvit, presented the company's marketing strategy in her presentation "If you don't show, you don't sell". Tadeáš Bělík from Javorina in Slovakia pointed out the importance of the online environment for selling abroad. The artistic director of Brokis, Lucie Koldová, presented virtual spaces created during the pandemic, where products are shown in a virtual interior.

Karásek and Jiří Pelcl discussed how the Czech state could directly support designers in their expansion into foreign markets. The second session was opened by Radek Sidun from VŠUP, who reminded us that the presentation of the school as a brand is also important for the institution. He also presented students’ long-term international projects, which are an indispensable experience and an important representation of the school. The Made by Fire project was presented by the director of the Moravian Gallery Jan Press and graphic designer Lukáš Kijonka. Zuzana Sedmerová spoke on behalf of Czech Trade and presented the goals of the Design Centrum project, which aims to connect Czech companies with experienced designers. The Design Centrum is preparing an online catalogue that brings together 120 contacts from the Czech design scene for foreign networks. Jana Zielinski and Jiří Macek presented the Designblok Cosmos project with its premiere at the 25th Designblok, which will be exhibited at several major global design and art gatherings.

In the second debate, led again by Danuše Nerudová, Marian Piecha from the Ministry of Industry and Trade spoke, Martin Wichterle outlined steps that could help industrial design, Lucie Koldová talked about success in foreign markets and, last but not least, Jana Zielinski pointed out the uniqueness of Czech glass and porcelain and of the craft tradition as such.
