GLOBAL VETERINARY VACCINES MARKET 2014 - 2019 Market Shares, Forecasts & Trends
mordorintelligence.com
INTRODUCTION In its original concept, vaccination aims to mimic the development of naturally acquired immunity by inoculation of nonpathogenic component of the pathogen but still immunogenic in nature, inside the body of the animal. The term “vaccine” (from the Latin term “vacca,” meaning cow) was first coined by Edward Jenner to confer protection against human smallpox virus with the cowpox virus inoculation, depicting relationship between human and animal infectious disease science. The criteria for successful animal vaccination could be different for both companion animals and farm animals. For example, primary criteria for companion animal vaccination is health and welfare of animal while for livestock vaccines, the main criteria are to improve overall production for the primary producers, and the cost-benefit resulting from vaccination is the bottom line for this industry. Global veterinary vaccines comprise approximately 23% of the global animal health market. The most successful animal health vaccines enjoy a combined market size of 10 to 20% of $ 1 billion market. The global market for veterinary vaccines is estimated to be worth $12.68 billion in 2014. Expected to grow at a CAGR of 8.84 %, the market is set to reach a value of US$19.35 billion by 2019.

Foot and Mouth Disease: Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) is a severe, highly contagious viral disease of livestock with significant economic impact. The disease affects cattle and swine as well as sheep, goats, and other cloven-hoofed ruminants. 7. Equine Influenza: Equine Influenza (EI) is a highly contagious though rarely fatal respiratory disease of horses, donkeys and mules and other equidae. 8. Swine Influenza: Swine influenza is a highly contagious viral infection of pigs. Swine influenza is caused by influenza A viruses, which are further characterized by subtypes. The most common subtypes are H1N1, H1N2 and H3N2. 9. Newcastle disease: Newcastle disease (ND) is a highly contagious and often severe disease found worldwide that affects birds including domestic poultry. Latin America market for Veterinary Vaccines is estimated to be $0.72 billion in 2014 and is estimated to grow with a CAGR of 7.63%. Brazil is the highest growing market for veterinary vaccine because of large population of companion and livestock animals, followed by Argentina because of more people consuming animal products like meat and dairy products. The Argentinean economy was built on beef and leather, which was exported all over the world. The meat plants were initially in Buenos Aires, but later moved to the country. MARKET DRIVERS Increasing Incidence of Zoonotic and Airborne diseases is a major driving factor for the growth of the veterinary vaccine market. World Health Organization estimates that in more than 100 countries and territories, rabies is one of the most prevalent Zoonotic diseases. Rabies in dogs is the source of 99% of human infections and poses a potential threat to more than 3.3 billion people, primarily in Asia and Africa. During the last two decades, 75 percent of emerging diseases affecting humans occurred as a consequence of an animal pathogen migrating into a human host.

Impact of animal disease outbreaks on the export of meat and other dairy products Real price increase of some 50 percent is achieved because of FMD free circuit in Brazil, focusing on use of vaccination in the region. The figure shows the inverse relationship between FMD outbreaks and the export value, in the early years, average 500 thousand tones exports and outbreaks between 100 and 2000 per year, while in later years, FMD outbreaks were almost nil, showing veterinary vaccine market in high demand in this region.
