“I considered attending another school, but Morehead State had a higher acceptance rate into veterinary school. We also have the Derrickson Agricultural Complex, which is over 300 acres, so we get a lot of hands-on experience. Our teachers motivate us to do our best. If we have a problem, they try to help us. They encourage us every day.”

You’re ambitious. But you know this about yourself: You thrive in an environment where the focus is on you and your success. You want an engaging, full college experience. One in which your professors actually know you—and are there for you when you need them. At Morehead State, we create an environment where interaction between you and your professors happens easily, effortlessly. Where you have opportunities to learn by doing. To work one-on-one with top faculty on research—and even get paid to do so. Where you discover even more when you’re helping others through servicelearning activities, such as an alternative spring break in places like Gulfport, Miss. and Louisville, Ky.

Much More Focus You benefit from a 17:1 student-faculty ratio and an average class size of 19. What’s that mean for you? You get the focused attention you deserve. Cliché yes, but true: You’re a name; not a number.

Megan Kingman Pre-Veterinary Grant County, Ky.

FULFILLING

Warm. Friendly. Down-to-earth. That’s how people describe Morehead State. You’ll feel it in your classrooms. You’ll feel it in the residence halls. You’ll feel it all throughout campus. It’s cultivated in our clubs and organizations and the activities we offer. And it spills out into the city of Morehead and Rowan County. If you’re from this area, you know what we mean. If you’re not, just come for a visit. You’ll understand once you step foot on campus. An added benefit: We’re located in the foothills of the Daniel Boone National Forest—a gorgeous place for you to backpack, camp, picnic, boat, hunt, fish, or relax.

Much More than a Room An ideal way to meet new people and get involved at Morehead State is to live in our residence halls. We offer a variety of housing styles, from our traditional residence halls to suites and apartments. Our halls are tobacco-and alcohol-free and include high-speed Internet access, cable TV, and cooking, vending, and laundry facilities.

Much More than Food Sure, you might miss home cooking, but you certainly won’t be hungry at Morehead State. You can use your meal plan to eat at Alumni Tower or at the Adron Doran University Center (we call it “ADUC”)—the heart of our community. On the second floor is the Market Place where you’ll find some of your favorite places to grab a quick bite—from Chick-fil-A to Taco Bell. You can grab Chinese food from Jump, a salad from Croutons, or some great deli sandwiches and wraps from Paos. Need a caffeine boost? Starbucks is right on campus. BeakerBucks are accepted at selected restaurants in the area.

INVIGORATING At Morehead State, we don’t take competition lightly. Our Eagles are charter members of the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC), which competes at the Division I level in all sports except football (I-AA level in the Pioneer Football League). Our men’s basketball team won the 2009 OVC tournament, propelling them into the NCAA tournament. In recent years, our women’s soccer team and an individual rifle athlete also made it to the NCAA tournament in their respective sports. Our baseball team has won seven OVC titles and our women’s volleyball team has five titles. We’re especially proud of this: When it comes to academic excellence, our teams finish among the leaders in the conference—and in the nation. We’ve won the prestigious OVC Institutional Academic Achievement Award 10 times.

More Facilities We believe in providing our student-athletes with exceptional facilities, from our AcademicAthletic Center to University Field to Sadler Courts. Our football and soccer teams play on Jacobs Field, which features state-of-the-art “Astroturf Game Day Grass.”

More than Cheering

“Morehead is just the right size. It fits me. I’ve made friends really easily here. I don’t have a lot of down time because of football, but when I do, I like to hang out with friends or play basketball in the gym. There’s always some place to work out. There’s a lot to do here.” JD Cecil Sports Management Columbus, Ohio

Our national champion cheerleaders are truly something to cheer about. They compete at the Universal Cheerleaders Association college cheerleading championships in Orlando, Fla., and have taken home 28 national titles! Think you have what it takes to be part of our all-women’s or coed squads? Tryouts are held in the spring. Interested in dance? Morehead has a dance team that performs at our home football and men’s basketball games.

GRATIFYING

From an affordability standpoint, Morehead State offers you an ideal choice: A full college experience in an environment that feels more like a small school than a large university. We’re committed to providing a quality education—one that also happens to be affordable. In fact, more than 80 percent of our students receive some type of financial aid.

Getting Started Your best first step is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The results of the FAFSA, along with the cost of education, will help us determine whether you qualify for need-based financial aid, such as grants, loans, and federal student employment/ work study.

“Morehead is the only school I applied to. It’s where I wanted to go. Most of my tuition is covered, but I feel like, even if that wasn’t the case, this is still one of the best schools for the money.” Cameron Dunn Radiology Campton, Ky.

Applying for Scholarships If you have demonstrated scholastic excellence and leadership, you may qualify for our Academic Achievement scholarships. These are not based on your financial need and most are automatically given consideration based on your application, submitted transcript, and test scores. Learn more about the scholarships available to you by checking out our Scholarship Guide at www.moreheadstate.edu/scholarships.

Get Much More from KEES Thanks to our new Eagle Excellence Award, if you’re a first-year student from Kentucky, you have the opportunity to double your Kentucky Education Excellence Scholarship (KEES) monies.

“Attending Morehead State University is one of the best decisions I have ever made. My professors, advisors, mentors, and work-study supervisors made such a huge impact on me. Being involved in various activities and organizations gave me hands-on experience and made me more marketable after graduation. If I had attended a bigger school, I wouldn’t have had those opportunities. Every day I use the knowledge, skills, and experiences I gained at MSU. My MSU experience is one I will treasure forever.” Allison Stanley Goble ’10 Communications Ashland, Ky.
