FM Antenna input, Head Phone Jack and a recovery switch. You can play directly from plug in external media card or USB or copy your entire content on the frame's 2.0 GB of memory. It automatically optimizes all your photos to display in the highest quality possible. It can't automatically copy the entire content of the external media; it copies them one by one. To copy entire content on its memory, you have to connect to a computer. The menu structure is very easy to navigate. Moving your Index finger on the frame brings touch sensitive LED’s back to life and also brings up the selection of source media. The menu presents you with six options: Photo, Music, Video, Radio, Calendar, and Settings. The first three options allow you to play from these files; it supports JPEG/BMP photos, MP3/WMA/WAV audio, and MPEG-1, MPEG-4, and Motion JPEG video. This covers the bases for what most owners of this type of frame would need. Using Radio you can Tune FM Stations and can listen to some 20 stations by saving their settings for future, plus you can also watch a photo slideshow along with it. Calendar pulls up a clock, background song, and a photo slideshow. You can set important reminders and set the first day of the week as Monday or Sunday here. Setting options include English and a bunch of other European and Oriental languages, set display brightness/contrast, set color modes to vivid/natural/standard and optimize your favorite pictures; set a weekly/daily/once alarm; set your time and date, time format, frame time on/off; restore defaults; and upgrade your firmware. The display quality is very nice and because of the dynamic color range, skin tones render a quality image. The response time of its accelerometer was very good when it was positioned vertically or horizontally and the image viewed at both angles was very good. Transcend has provided options like Animations and Themes with PF810 to display with Photos but you cannot customize them. Video plays smoothly and even large photos load and transition fairly rapidly without artifacts. The speakers, they suffer a lot in sound quality, you need to have some hearing device plugged in your ears. As far as the price is concerned built-in speakers are not a bad option, we have got external speaker jack to connect it to external speakers. Radio tuning was fine and there was no distortion detected during the play time. All in all, PF 810 8-inch Digital Photo Frame provides everything most users probably want and its ease of use and stunning looks will especially attract people towards it. A must gift for your loved ones!

The 9-inch screen looks even smaller than it actually is, thanks to the large grey frame that surrounds it. The extra space around the screen serves a purpose: it is for the Webcam that sits above the screen. With a resolution of 800 x 480, there's not a lot of screen left to spare, but the combination of low resolution and a tiny screen does not mean that you have to read letters by squinting your eyes. The two speakers play music nicely and perform well in a quiet environment. Classmate Pc with cam comes with the windows XP. The Hard Drive is pretty much large to store anything that a kid wants in a Laptop or perhaps more than required. It comes preloaded with MS-Office and eLearning class 6.0 and many of the apps you want can be installed later because there is Windows on your system so Compatibility is not a problem here. Grow your plant without soil n
Living in cyberspace means we’re rarely exposed to dirt. A result of pioneering NASA tech-
nology this mains-powered box of magic lets you grow plants, all season, without soil. You’ll be snipping off bits of basil, admiring your pansies and scoffing strawberries before you can say ‘aeroponics’. Aeroponics is the name given to the growing technique utilized by the Power Plant. A nifty internal microjet system constantly sprays roots with super-oxygenated, nutrient rich water so crops grow bigger and stronger. It’s a bit like a mini rainforest minus the bulldozers and Sting. All you do is add water to a special nutrient mix and pour it over the spongy strip that sits below the brim of the Power Plant. Next, sow your seeds on the sponge, replace the lid, stick the whole shebang on the window sill. An ideal gift for dirty hand haters and anyone who lives in a garden-free flat, the Power Plant is set to become a kitchen essential for herb lovers and fans of fruit, veg and flowers.

MONTh IN fOcus pTa to provide sMs software to educational institutions Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has started a project named “SMS-based Information System” for educational institutions, to equip them with an interactive mobile application for broadcasting important information to students and their guardians on their mobile phones. It is a system of sending SMS by using computer software developed by PTA. It has been noted that usually management of educational institutions relies on mail-correspondence with guardians, which is costly and time consuming. PTA would provide this software free of cost to educational institutions across the country. A formal launching ceremony of the system was held today at PTA Headquarters. During the occasion Mr. Naguibullah Malik, Secretary (IT) handed over the software application along with its operating manual to Mr. Abdur Rauf Chaudhry, Secretary (Education). The application was presented to Ministry of Education for onward provision to the among public-sector educational institutions. This software would help recipient to be aware of events like lecture venue, coursework deadlines, result announcements, attendance details and upcoming school functions or meetings. Since majority of students and parents nowadays own mobile phones and most of them are familiar with sending and receiving SMS text messages, this solution for information dissemination introduced by PTA in educational institutions of Pakistan through SMS would prove to be an important information and communication source. Talking on the occasion Secretary IT &T appreciated the efforts under-taken at PTA for proliferation of ICT-based solutions in the country. He endorsed the Chairman PTA’s efforts for enhancing ICT infrastructure and services.

energy efficient battery cooling at base station sites Nokia Siemens Networks has expanded its portfolio of energy efficient Smart Site solutions with the introduction of SiteStar, a cooling cabinet that can increase battery life by three times, and reduce the electricity consumed for cooling batteries at a base station site by up to 95%. SiteStar will be commercially available in Q3 of 2009. SiteStar is ideal for countries with extreme climatic conditions and particularly for emerging markets where power supply can be scarce making battery back-up essential. “SiteStar can replace expensive shelters and power hungry air conditioners which are often needed only for battery cooling,” said Prashant Agnihotri, Head of GSM/EDGE Product Management, Radio Access, Nokia Siemens Networks. “It eliminates the need for expensive indoor sites, while reducing the OPEX of an outdoor site thereby helping an operator not only reduce the cost of roll out and operation, but also its CO2 footprint.” The life of a battery is inversely proportional to the temperature under which it operates, and is reduced by 50% with a mere 10°C increase above the optimal temperature of 20°C. Service providers therefore have to undertake significant capital and operating expenditure to ensure that the batteries remain cool, or to replace them at regular intervals.
