On Thursday December 1st, the American Salvage Association hosted their hybrid Annual General Meeting (AGM) in New Orleans, LA, in conjunction with the International Work Boat show. There were over 65 in-person attendees which included International Salvors, OPA 90 SMFF providers, tug and barge owners, diving companies, salvage support, offshore construction, SCRs, regulatory authorities, and additional Industry stakeholders. This large and diverse participation demonstrated the tremendous increase in the number of Corporate Association members that the ASA has welcomed this year as well as the jam-packed and valuable agenda.
“The ASA has been strengthening its relationship with the USCG this past year. Having two USCG Admirals and a USCG Captain presenting and interacting with the members and guests underscored this strength”, said Mike Jarvis, President, American Salvage Association. “Additionally, there were many in-person training courses the ASA’s Training Committee has hosted for the USCG this last year.” The ASA would like to thank RDML Jo-Ann Burdian, Assistant Commandant for Response Policy, RDML Richard Timme, USCG Commander District 8, and CAPT Trey Wirth, USCG Chief, CG-MER for their presentations and Q & A that allowed a bridge between steak holders and regulators, as well as their time and attendance.
There were many discussions at the ASA AGM regarding Sub Chapter M, USCG Authorization Act 2022, and Merchant Mariner Credentials – all issues that deeply affect ASA membership. These updates and issues were addressed by various speakers such as those mentioned above and industry partners such as NOAA,
