WELCOME TO THE MORGAN FAMILY DR OSCAR BARTON JR: Dean of the Clarence Mitchell School of Engineerin: Dr. Barton served as professor and founding chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at George Mason University’s Volgenau School of Engineering. He joined the faculty at Mason in fall 2014, after completing a 22-year career at the U.S. Naval Academy. His research focuses on the development of approximate closed form solutions for linear self-adjoint systems, those that govern the responses of composite structures, and the analysis of dynamic systems. More recently, he investigated the dynamic response of flexible composite structures subject to periodic and random excitation. He has mentored numerous midshipmen through independent research projects and has directed two Trident Scholars, the Naval Academy’s flagship research program. He has published more than 60 journal and conference articles on these topics. Barton is also a fellow of ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) and is actively involved in academic innovations and program assessment. A native of Washington, D.C., he received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Tuskegee (Institute) University and his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Ph.D. in Applied Mechanics from Howard University. Dr. Barton joined Morgan State University on August 17th 2020.

TARA BERRIEN JD: Assistant Vice President for EEO and Diversity/Title IX Coordinator A native of New Castle, Delaware, Ms. Berrien comes to Morgan having previously served as employee relations consultant for the Christiana Care Health System, one of the nation’s leading regional healthcare operations servicing the state of Delaware and portions of Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and as equity compliance investigator in the Office of Institutional Equity at Johns Hopkins University (JHU). Berrien successfully led investigations of alleged discrimination, harassment and sexual misconduct; facilitated employee disciplinary appeal panels; and ensured ethics and legal compliance requirements and regulations were upheld. In the latter role as an equity compliance investigator at JHU, Berrien was instrumental in providing counsel relating to equal opportunity laws and regulations, Title VI, VII, and IX, as well as Campus SaVE Act and ADA compliance. Ms. Berrien received her Juris Doctor (J.D.) from University of Dayton School of Law and her Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Political Science at the University of Delaware. Ms. Berrien joined Morgan State University on July 1,2020.
