Welcome to our beautiful Virgin Islands of the United States. Our islands are unique in what they each offer and our communities are filled with people who are proud of our storied history. While visiting, I encourage you to immerse yourself in our culture and to explore the unique offerings of all four Islands that make up our paradise. St. Croix, the largest of the U.S. Virgin Islands, sits to the south of our small island chain and is renowned for its pastoral landscapes, Danish architecture and historical landmarks. With its off-shore wrecks and unbelievably beautiful underwater reefs, St. Croix is also a popular destination for diving enthusiasts. Be sure to visit the historic towns of Frederiksted and Christiansted and indulge in St. Croix’s renowned art and delicious culinary scenes.

St. John is one of the smaller U.S. Virgin Islands and conservation center of the territory. It is best known for its pristine beaches and the attractions within the Virgin Islands National Park, which occupies more than half the island. The lands in the Virgin Islands National Park shelter migrant birds and the mangroves support corals and anemones. As with all the Virgin islands, you will find that St. John provides a rich mix of our culture and history. St. Thomas is our business and shopping center and the seat of government. Charlotte Amalie is the capital town of the U.S. Virgin Islands and is one of the busiest ports of call for cruise ships in the Caribbean. St. Thomas is also among the most popular destinations in the Caribbean for sailing and yachting enthusiasts. Water Island is the smallest of the U.S. Virgin Islands and rests just off the coast of St. Thomas. It is mostly residential but offers fun attractions like Honeymoon Beach and quaint accommodations. The island can be reached by ferry from the Crown Bay Marina or by other vessels. As the Governor- and Lieutenant Governor-elect, both Treganza Roach and I wish you a warm, fun-filled stay and please accept our invitation to return often to our paradise. While Kris Chhabria’s store is a fresh addition to Main Street, he brings with him more than two decades as a jewelry professional and is a graduate gemologist from GIA. Visitors from around the world know Kris from his jewelry store in Alaska. That’s why he decided to expand to the U.S. Virgin Islands. “A lot of our customers cruise the Caribbean and come and spend time in resorts here as well,” says Kris. “Having lived on St. Thomas before and its being part of the U.S. led to my decision to open a store here. Plus, I wanted to be part of rebuilding of the USVI after last year’s two cat 5 hurricanes.” As Katy Perry says, “After a hurricane comes a rainbow!” Kris’ journey started in India. From there he went to Aruba as a salesman and learned the trade. He found he enjoyed interacting with people and building a personal rapport and trust. Thus, the Jewels By Kris dream was born and he started saving for a store where he could deliver unique pieces with exceptional service. After several years in Aruba, Curacao, St. Thomas and Alaska and completing the GIA course in Manhattan, gateway to the U.S. jewelry trade, Kris opened his store in Juneau, Alaska. “I love the personal connection we create with our customers,” Kris notes. “It’s not about sales and how much money you spend. Rather it’s about building an ongoing relationship so that you have your own personal jeweler whom you trust.” In addition to his array of store pieces, Jewels By Kris also carries brands that distinguish it from others – Shinola, Fendi, Ball, LeVian and Orocal Kris is also a father, husband and Christian. “My wife and I have 3-yearold triplets – two boys and a girl – as well as a 2-year-old daughter. At an impressive height of 1,500 feet above sea level, Mountain Top offers a spectacular panoramic view of both the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, a total of 20 islands in all. In fact, National Geographic has rated this view of Magens Bay as one of the 10 best views in the world. It features a huge shopping area for browsing and a bar that is home of the world-famous banana daiquiri. Truly breathtaking!

The seas of the Virgin Islands are some of the best boating waters in the world. Whether you want to spend the day under sail or on a zooming powerboat, boat charters offer fun days that usually include food, drinks and snorkeling. Most charters leave from the East End/Red Hook area or from area resorts. If you want to see the reefs, wrecks and underwater marine life, several dive boat operations will show you the best St. Thomas has to offer. Sportfishing is another way to spend the day on a boat while trying to haul in a big marlin, tuna or wahoo.

SEA St. Thomas Beaches

1. BREWER’S BAY

You will find it just past the Univeristy of the Virgin Islands going west on Route 30. Brewer’s Bay is a local family favorite for weekend picnics and gatherings. Visitors can relax in the shallow waters or sunbathe on the wide shore. On weekends there tends to be a lot of activity and loud local music! (#1 on map)

7. SAPPHIRE BEACH

Named after the famous aviator who landed nearby in 1928, this tranquil bay is flanked by three hotels, palm trees and sea grapes that line the shore. Located on the airport road. (#4 on map)

The sapphire-blue waters here are great for snorkeling, windsurfing, jet skiing and more. The beach is located on the east end at Sapphire Beach Resort. (#7 on map)

8. SECRET HARBOUR BEACH 5. LINDQUIST BEACH One of St. Thomas’s most virginal and pristine beach, Lindquist Beach is situated on the east end of the island. The water is crystal-clear and typically calm. The left side of the beach is great for snorkeling. Owned by the Virgin Islands government it is well maintained and kept clean. There are a few picnic tables but get there early! (#5 on map)

2. COKI BEACH Located on Coki Point right before Coral World Ocean Park, this white sand beach with crystal clear water offers excellent snorkeling and diving. Beachside restaurants serve picnic fare including burgers, sandwiches and some local dishes. There is a dive shop, jet ski rental and several vendors renting snorkel gear, beach chairs and floats. 6. MAGENS BAY This beautiful one-mile stretch of beach is St. Thomas’ most favorite and famous beach and is a public park. The water is usually very calm in this heart-shaped protected bay. Beach chairs and floats are available for rent and burgers, pizzas and other snacks can be found at the snack bar. Picnic tables located all along the beach. Lifeguards are on duty. (#6 on map)

3. HULL BAY A favorite northside beach for local families and surfers. It offers the best surfing on St. Thomas when there is a north swell but the locals are very protective so be aware. Hull Bay Hideaway restaurant and bar is located just behind the beach. Located n the northside. Plenty of parking. (#3 on map)

4. LINDBERGH BAY

A calm, quiet beach located at Secret Harbour Beach Resort, this beach has a floating swim platform and beach chairs available for rent. There is a dive company right on the beach. Also a restaurant and bar. (#8 on map)

9. LIMETREE BEACH There is often a bit of gentle surf on this beach. It is a bit rocky as you enter the water so tread carefully. Limetree is usually very quiet with not too many people around. (#9 on map)

10. VESSUP BEACH

A local favorite on the weekends for parties with loud music. Good time to go is during the week when it is very empty and peaceful. There is a watersports hut there that rents out sailboats, SUPs (Stand Up Paddle Boards), windsurfers and other fun water toys. The long stretch of beach is great for taking a leisurely stroll and the water is nice for swimming. (#10 on map)

SEA A Day Underwater

Local marine life beckons divers of all levels Diving in waters around St. Thomas and St. John is easy and accessible and offers a broad range of dive sites. More than 500 species of fish, 40 types of coral and hundreds of invertebrates inhabit USVI waters. Vibrant blue tang, silvery horse-eye jacks, queen triggerfish, spiny Caribbean lobster, spotted eagle rays, Creole wrasses, and cleaner gobies are just a sampling of the marine life populating the underwater terrain. At dusk you may even encounter an octopus, sea horses or moray eels. Hawksbill, green, and leatherback turtles are also spotted frequently here. Most dive operators teach a full range of PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) and NAUI (National Association of Underwater Instructors) courses from beginner scuba to instructor training. Specialty courses, such as, underwater photography, peak buoyancy, wreck, drift and boat diving are also

available through many operators. The islands are surrounded by some of the Caribbean’s healthiest reefs. Plus there’s more than a dozen shipwrecks. Some favorite dive sites include Cow & Calf, Wit Shoal II, Navy Barges, Tunnels of Thatch, Coki Beach, Carvel Rock, Eagle Shoals and Tecktite. The average water temperature is around 82° F (29° C) in the summer and 80° F (26° C) in the winter. Most divers are comfortable in shorty-style wetsuits year-round. Visibility ranges from 60-100 feet, but it can occasionally be higher or lower depending on weather conditions. A recompression chamber is available on St. Thomas in case of dive emergencies. And because the U.S. Virgin Islands is a territory of the United States, you’ll enjoy the added safety of diving within U.S. waters. This means that all dive boats are inspected by the U.S. Coast Guard and captains are USCG-certified.

While you’re here, be sure to carve out time to visit our several retail hubs on island, lined with merchants offering the finest of jewelry – since that’s our trademark – as well as stylish fashion, home décor, island art, souvenirs and more.

Coined “the flagship jeweler of the Virgin Islands” since it’s been around since 1954, Cardow Jewelers is a favorite with visitors and locals alike. When you walk into Trident Jewels & Time, you find yourself in the midst of exquisite jewelry and watches, most notably Ulysse Nardin.

George at House of Rajah is a favorite with visitors having been on St. Thomas for more than 45 years. Not only does he have whatever you desire, he loves to talk about his favorite things to see and do on the island. You’ll find him just steps off Main Street on Raadets Gade.

Another recently combined store brings together two legacy jewelry stores into a merged family operation at Dynasty Dazzlers where “Uncle Charlie’s” Imperial Jewelers has moved across Main Street. And while there are many familiar faces and brands downtown, there is also a stylish new boutique Jewels by Kris. While his St. Thomas store is new, Kris is an experienced and GIA credentialed jeweler with a store in Alaska as well. Downtown Charlotte Amalie is one of the most famous shopping districts in the Caribbean. So, don’t miss the chance to stroll Main Street that’s steeped in history and elegance.

A particularly “charming” shopping experience can be found just steps from Main Street on Garden Street. Sandal Man Sunil Mohanani’s Get Charmed Factory Outlet offers the famous flipflop you can wear around your neck plus “a multitude of fanciful pendants” and charms.

But there are other shopping districts that should not be missed. Yacht Haven Grande, where luxury yachts moor and dock, offers upscale shops as well as dining along the harbor waterfront.

Another hidden treasure is The Pearl Lady next to Fort Christian with a full selection of pearls ranging from Japanese Akoya and South Seas to Tahitian and Freshwater Cultured varieties.

With a bustling cruise ship presence, both shopping centers near the St. Thomas docks offer robust shopping for a broad array of merchandise. Havensight Mall has a bright new look and welcoming merchants. Crown Bay Center too boasts some of the name retailers you see downtown as well as some only found there. American Yacht Harbor and Red Hook boast some cool little boutiques as well.

And for a vast variety of brand boutiques, Little Switzerland boasts multiple locations Downtown, at Havensight Mall and Crown Bay Center. of the Virgin Islands The U.S Territories (St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix) and the British Virgin Islands (to the north and east) are among the most beautiful geographical areas in the world, blessed with powdery beaches and sun drenched weather. The islands lie in the path of soft tradewinds blowing direct from Portugal. Which perhaps accounts for the fact that “Santa Cruz” was among the first islands to be sighted by Christopher Columbus on his second voyage westward. He then sailed northeast, passing St Thomas, St John and Tortola and called them collectively Las Virgenes. After his visit, the islands went back

They woke to find the flag of Denmark planted on St. Thomas, the French Tricolor on St. Croix and the Union Jack flapping over Tortola (where it still flies). The Arawak Indian population had disappeared. Denmark later claimed St. John, bought St. Croix and built the Danish West Indies into thriving sugar cane and trading islands. Slaves were imported early to work the growing number of sugar plantations. The islands were also used as a base for re-shipment of slaves to other areas. After the Danish abolished slavery in

99 Steps 1848, planters began to abandon their estates and the population and economy dwindled. Threatened by German expansion during World War I, the U.S. bought the Danish West Indies (now the American Virgin Islands) on March 31, 1917. Even then the islands were expensive real estate – almost $300 an acre. In 1927, residents were granted U.S. citizenship. Until 1931, the islands were administered by the U.S. Navy. Then they were placed under the Department of the Interior with a Governor appointed by the President. A locally elected legislature (15 members from all three islands) has operated since 1852 but it wasn’t until 1970 that islanders could vote for their own Governor, and in 1972 a delegate to the U.S Congress. Though U.S. citizens, Virgin Island residents have no vote in national elections. Nor does the Virgin Islands' representative in Washington have a vote on the floor of the house.

1 LEGISLATURE BUILDING Originally a barracks for Danish troops, dating back to 1874. 2 FORT CHRISTIAN This National Historic Landmark was completed by Danish settlers in 1680. Built originally to protect the colony from hostile marauders, It has housed a jail, a governor’s residence, a place of worship, and a police station. Currently under renovation. 3 EMANCIPATION GARDENS Commemorates the emancipation of slaves by Danish Governor Peter von Scholten on July 3, 1848 4 GRAND GALLERIA In 1841, this unique structure opened as the Grand Hotel. It remained a popular place for vacationers to stay until 1975. 5 FREDERICK LUTHERAN CHURCH Established in 1666, the same year Erik Smidt took formal possession of St. Thomas in the name of the Danish West India Company. The present building rebuilt in1826. 6 SEVEN ARCHES MUSEUM Once a Danish craftsman’s residence, it was built in the 19th century featuring a total of seven arches to support the staircase. 7 GOVERNMENT HOUSE This is the official residence of the Governor of the Virgin Islands. The building was constructed by the Danish Colonial Council between the years 1865 & 1867. 8 99 STEPS One of several ‘step-streets’ built by the Danes to solve the problem of getting around the town’s hilly terrain. The bricks were brought from Denmark as ballasts in the holds of trade ships. Walk to the top (actually 103 steps) and you will find yourself near the foot of more stairs leading to Blackbeard’s Castle.

9 HAAGENSEN HOUSE A restored home built in the early 1800s by island entrepreneur Hans Haagensen. The salons and chambers are furnished with period antiques. 10 BLACKBEARD’S CASTLE Also located just above 99 steps is this Danish watch tower built in the late 1600’s. The view from the tower offered a perfect vantage point to spot enemy ships entering the harbor. 11 CROWN HOUSE Built in the middle of the 18th century, this stately home was the residence of two past VI governors. It is now a private residence.

THOMAS SYNAGOGUE This National Historic Landmark is the second oldest synagogue in the western hemisphere. The original synagogue was built by Sephardic Jews in 1796 and was rebuilt in 1833. Chesney was not on island during the storms, but he was filled with anxiety as he watched and feared from afar.

Kenny Chesney’s love affair with Saint John and the Virgin Islands is an enduring one. It started at a time in his life when he was on the verge of so many things as a country singer and songwriter.

“People I love very much were on the island, and I watched the Weather Channel, seeing the storm headed right for them. When communication was wiped out, it was even worse. You didn’t know, and you couldn’t find out. It was awful.”

“When I saw St. John, on a day off after a video shoot, it was everything I love in the world. Friendly, open, warm, the people as well as the land and the beaches. It reminded me of home, even though it was another world. And it felt like home, too, immediately,” said Chesney. “I made so many friends, spent so many hours on the water and nights under the stars. Even when you’re doing nothing, the calmness of the island makes it special.” So that’s why he bought a house and made St. John his home away from home. Over the years, the islands have captured his heart. That’s why when dual category 5 hurricanes Irma and Maria hit the islands two weeks apart in September 2017, his heart split wide open.

And then they waited … “Eventually, a few texts came through, calls. You got news, but it wasn’t complete. All you wanted to know was what could you do … how could you help?” Within days Chesney marshaled people and resources to help. He recalls his first glimpse of the destruction and devastation when he got to the islands. “It was Biblical. To see a place that was always so green, so full of plant life and animals be barren. It was hard to get your head around it. You’d go along, and it was just this brown/tan/grey. Or there was brush everywhere. Trees down, boats flipped over on the shore – or inland. Houses leveled, or just a wall standing,” recalled Chesney. “It made no sense, and yet, there it was. You’d see people coming together, though, starting to clean up, to clear the roads. It was amazing how Love City really lived up to its name.”

Chesney, his team, his island family and the No Shoes Nation went to work trying to figure out what was needed and how to round up help. They started with getting planes down here with water, medical supplies, tools, tarps, clothing, and then loading those same planes up for the trips back to the U.S. mainland with people who needed to get off the islands. “I never thought I’d ever be having phone calls with the head of FEMA, but I did. Trying to find solutions, trying to get certified as a humanitarian effort, so we could land. Then after we got the people who were older, who needed medical care or little children off the island, we started getting the animals.” Their attitude was that no planes would fly empty either coming or going. Jill Trunnell, his production office manager who works closely with Chesney, was on a mission to help rescue animals. He said, “She found no kill shelters all over the eastern seaboard to take them, because the poor animals had often been left behind by families who loved their pets but were unable to get them on planes. It was very emotional stuff … and rewarding.” At the core of those initial efforts as well as ongoing ones is Chesney’s Love for Love City Foundation that he formed to manifest the funds, resources and people needed to have meaningful impact in the wake of the hurricanes. Jeff Quinlan had met Chesney a few times on St. John but didn’t really get to know him until after the storms. “I got a phone call the day after the storm hit from Ben Bourassa, Kenny’s longtime friend and boat captain. He was put in

touch with me through some mutual friends that knew of my work overseas, Haiti and disaster relief. Ben and I, along with John McInnis put together a plan to start landing assets on or as close to St. John as possible in as short amount of time as possible." Quinlan was in Texas when he first heard about Irma hitting the Virgin Islands. He got in his truck and drove home to Florida, boarded up his house there and waited for Irma to hit there. Then he drove to the Florida border where he boarded a plane for St. Croix. So, he was in the is-

lands when Maria roared through. “I stayed on island during hurricane Maria as I wanted to be on the ground immediately after so our work wouldn't stall and it would be easier to respond to immediate and crisis situations without delay. It wasn’t fun, I’ll say that. I’ve been through hurricanes, earthquakes and tornadoes, but prior experience doesn’t take the anxiety out of waiting for a storm to hit and then riding it out.” He has seen Chesney, the Love for Love City staff and extended family show up and do whatever needed to be done. That included evacuating folks with medical issues, bringing in critical

medical supplies, food, water, generators, chainsaws, tools and a long list of other necessary equipment. They did everything from clearing roads, repairing two of the schools enough to get them open quickly and fixing peoples’ homes, roofs and businesses. “We were able to work with the VI government to help get the ferry service open and ports cleared. We removed vessels and debris from the beaches. We flew in toys for the children of St. John and Jost van Dyke for Christmas. “I think that without a doubt, Love for Love City was able to make a significant, direct positive influence in a lot of peoples’ lives in the VI that otherwise would have had to fend for themselves. We were able to help a lot of people right away that had no other help coming.”

Like most of us here, Quinlan has nothing but loving words for the man who so adores Love City. “I see in Kenny a man that saw a desperate, dire need and immediately used his own assets, time, money and network to help. To help immediately and as directly as possible. A lot of people talk about helping and send thoughts and prayers, but it takes a certain kind of person to immediately act and do so out of the goodness of his heart.” A cause that has been close to Chesney’s heart through all of this are the local schools. He saw kids on St. John who had been through the horror of the storms and were living in the aftermath. He wanted to bring some joy into their

lives. For Chesney, music equals joy. “I thought, ‘Let’s get them musical instruments.’ We got musical instruments of all kinds for the three schools on the island, so the kids could find a creative outlet – and seeing their faces was amazing.’ Kim Wild at the St. John School of the Arts says Chesney’s efforts have been a godsend. And his surprise visit last February was truly memorable. “Having Kenny come to the school was such an amazing time for all of us. He sang with the students, talked with them and gave them great advice about what music has done for his life. He took the extra time to talk with the faculty and listen to their stories,” said Wild. “We all cried together, which really bonded us in such an endearing way. “ Tunnell, who is the self-professed “Air Traffic Control in the KC Touring World,” has been on the frontline of Chesney’s recovery efforts.

YOU CAN HELP. Love for Love City was created to channel the right kind of relief to the people who truly need the help. The nonprofit founded by Kenny Chesney partners with local charities to identify needs, transport for materials, make sure help goes where it’s crucial – and to ensure the resources get to the people rebuilding.

“From the first days after Irma hit, I watched Kenny give his friends – and all of the people of the islands and St. John – hope that someone was there to help. And instead of only rescue and relief, they would have a long-term commitment to rebuilding, and rebuilding faster than anyone could’ve ever hoped for. It wasn't just the gesture of ‘we see you.’ It was boots on the ground. We've got this. Together. It was amazing to see

it come together, especially since every day you never knew what the real need was going to be.” Chesney agrees, noting that recovery will be an ongoing process. “It’s going to take years. Obviously, getting the restaurants and hotels up and running feeds the economy. Those places, and the places tourists see, look pretty well. But there’s a lot of buildings beyond those parts of town that need help. There’s a lot of nature that needs replacing. We will be working to make the island even stronger and better, but that takes time – and consistent work.” But he has no doubt it will happen. “The thing about the people of the islands, though, is they’ll stay with it. They will figure it out, return the island to its best self. That alone is good news.” That’s great news for guests wanting to experience our islands. Chesney encourages those of you here visiting or planning to visit to truly embrace the beauty of both the islands and the people here. “The beauty of these islands is amazing. Get off the main tracks, and marvel at how wild and untouched the lands are. Even after everything, there is still a pristine beauty of the Saints that pulls you in. Whether you hike or sail or swim or just stare out at the sea, this is as close to heaven … Come experience it. Put some money back into the economy. You’ll experience something.”

The process is ongoing; not just weeks or months, but years are going to be required to restore the island. Love for Love City is about the sustained effort to support St. John and the entire Virgin Islands. Love for Love City comes from the heart of Kenny Chesney’s No Shoes Nation. One of best things to come out of this challenging time – in addition to the rebuilding of the islands and VI Strong synergy that abounds – is more great music from Chesney. His latest album “Songs for the Saints” and his tour of the same name were inspired by this time and this place. Recalls Chesney, “I was watching the Weather Channel, reading the texts and needing to channel all that anxiety. A friend said, ‘You should write a song called ‘Song for the Saints,’ and make an album called Songs for the Saints – and give all the money to the Love for Love City fund.’ Just like that, the song hit me.” He said it was written “before the storm even got to Saints, and ‘Love for Love City’ happened almost as quickly. I went in to the studio to cut them, to capture the immediacy of the moment.”

what it was for yet … “but all the musicians could feel this was something important. We didn’t know why, but sometimes you can just tell: These songs matter in a different way. We had a few songs that we found, or I’d had. I wrote some more. We just kept staying in the moment, and next thing we knew we did have a record, and it was obvious it was inspired by what happened.” What is especially important to Chesney about Songs for the Saints is it’s “about the spirit of the people who live on these islands. It takes a special kind of heart to be part of this community. And no matter how much people love the friendliness, there’s something deeper, more spiritual here.” He remembers friends leaving the island so as to not tax the resources. There were others moving through the houses, making sure there were no animals trapped, or clearing brush from the

road. “The coming together to help fix what was broken. To me, that’s what makes this record special: the idea of how inspiring all the people are.” Chesney’s personal message to visitors to America’s Paradise: “Love the islands. Protect them. Help us rebuild and help keep the parks and the focus on nature. It’s not just a place to come and disappear, although – as everyone knows – I have done that for years. It’s a place to feed your soul. Sometimes in ways you don’t even realize. Leave the fast-paced world behind when you come. Exhale, then breathe in slowly. It’s magical, and all you really have to do to experience it is reach out your arms. To me, that’s the greatest gift of the Saints.”

Whether renting a vehicle or simply crossing a street, it is vital to remember that traffic in the USVI always flows from the left-hand side of the road. Speed limits are 35 MPH in the country and 20 MPH in town, unless otherwise posted. The first thing to remember is that you drive on the left-hand side of the road; the second is that it’s hard to get lost for long. This narrow emerald dot on the world map is only thirteen miles long and no point on the island is more than thirty minutes (traffic permitting) from Charlotte Amalie, the

main town, which climbs picturesquely up the hills of the main harbor midway on the island’s south shore. Black and white signs are spotted along the country roads indicating route number and direction in which you are going. Our road map is keyed to these routes and also to the road names.

SEA St. John Beaches

You have got to do St. John! You hear that from everyone who has visited the island and from those who live here... 1. Trunk Bay The most popular beach on St. John is undoubtedly Trunk Bay. It is known for its 650 feet of underwater snorkeling trail that includes identification signs on the bottom of the sea, describing the coral formations and fish that inhabit the waters. It’s educational and a fun way to spend the day. The beach is part of the National Park and it is the only beach with an admission fee ($5). 2. Hawksnest One of St. John’s most convenient beaches, Hawksnest Beach offers picnic tables and barbecue grills. There is also plenty of parking. A great snorkeling reef starts close to shore. 3. Cinnamon Bay One of the longest beaches in St. John’s National Park is Cinnamon Bay, it is about a mile long. There is good snorkeling to the right side of the beach, if you don’t mind the swim. Or check out the nature trail across from the campground that winds through plantation ruins and a wild cinnamon forest of bay rum trees.

4. Salomon Bay Another favorite with the locals because it is accessible only by trail, either from Caneel Bay or along the Lind Point Trail out of Cruz Bay (about a mile walk, not challenging) and thus is mostly deserted. A perfect place for a relaxing day on the beach. 5. Honeymoon Beach Honeymoon Beach is a pretty beach with sandy shoreline surrounded by sea grape and coconut trees. It offers great snorkeling, swimming and lounging. You can access the Honeymoon Beach via the Lind Point Trail which starts just behind the Virgin Islands National Park Visitor Center in Cruz Bay and connects to Caneel Bay Resort.

6. Caneel Bay Caneel Bay Beach can be hiked to from Cruz Bay along the Lind Point Trail. It is the ultimate white sand beach. The water is usually very calm and shallow, perfect for a day of swimming and sunning. This beach and bay have become a popular gathering spot for boaters since the resort is closed.

SEA St. John Beaches

But, what does it mean to do St. John? Well, there are the wonderful hiking trails that meander through the island that can take you from the "bustling" town of Cruz Bay to secluded beaches and pristine Caribbean forests. But St. John beaches are a must! 7. Francis Bay Francis Bay is one of St. John’s longest beaches. Long white sand beach with calm, clear water protected from the easterly winds. The Francis Bay Trail runs along a salt pond and offers great bird watching. There is good snorkeling for beginners on the west end, towards Maho Bay. For experienced snorkelers go to the rocky section at the other end of the beach. 8. Maho Bay Maho Bay is great for children. The water is shallow and protected. Look carefully in the sand while snorkeling; you might see a stingray, just look for the outline in the sand.

9. Great Cruz Bay This is the beach of the Westin Resort. So it is well kept and lined with beautiful palm trees. Great Cruz Bay is a great beach for kids and families. The water is calm with a mostly sandy bottom with some seagrass patches. Beach chairs, umbrellas and watersports rentals are available. 10. Scott Beach This deserted beach at the Caneel Bay Resort property is accessible only by water, but is teeming with sea turtles, spotted eagle rays and starfish. Kayaking is a great way to explore this area.

As you will undoubtedly notice upon your arrival, we drive on the left side of the road here. So if you are renting a vehicle and driving around St. Thomas and St. John, just be extra mindful on our narrow winding roads, be cautious, be courteous and don’t be in a hurry.

STREET SMARTS Visitors should exercise the same safety precautions used when traveling anywhere else in the world. Lock your hotel door or car when you exit. Don’t answer the door in a hotel without verifying whom it is. Place all valuables in the hotel’s safe deposit box.
