f you are reading this viewbook, you are already thinking ahead regarding where you want to go with your life and what you want to accomplish. The first part of the Morris College motto is “Enter to Learn,” and we think we have some of the best facilities of any college to help you achieve that purpose. Though the college has operated for over one hundred years, almost all of the present facilities have been built in the last thirty years, and four new buildings have been built within the past two years. That in turn opens up for you a wide range of unique opportunities to work in computer laboratories, science laboratories, forensic laboratories, photo laboratories, language laboratories, a television studio and a radio station as well as a new residence hall. At Morris, the learning is hands-on, the mission is liberal arts and career-focused, and our students are guided by a diverse faculty and staff who work diligently with you to ensure that you are mastering all of the skills that are needed to succeed in the increasingly competitive world in which we live. Through a federally-funded Title IIIprogram, the division of General Studies operates three tutorial laboratories (Mathematics, Reading and Writing) in its effort to ensure the academic success and retention of freshmen and sophomores. Each lab is staffed by a full-time tutor who engages

the students in one-on-one and small group assistance. The tutors make use of up-to-date materials and technology in order to provide students with the best tutorial services available. Tutorial services are available daily Monday through Friday and some evenings.

Brawley-Starks Academic Success Center The Brawley-Starks Academic Success Center offers students access to computer workstations and educational software programs geared toward improving their skills in English, mathematics, biology, reading, history, and speech. The Academic Success Center provides test preparation for standardized instruments. The Center is available to Learners’ Assistance Program faculty and students as a setting for tutorial/instructional sessions. This facility is available to all students during the academic year. The Division of Business Administration Develops tomorrow’s leaders.

he Division of Business Administration focuses on the development of individual abilities and the marketable skills necessary to secure employment in business, industry, government or other agencies. Students successfully completing a minimum of 61 academic credit hours in the General Education Program in the Division of General Studies are transferred into the Division of Business Administration as juniors. The Division has a seven-semester average student retention rate of 71% and a three-year average graduation rate of 71%. The Division is aware of society’s need for persons in responsible positions to display professional, moral and ethical behavior and thus seeks to develop skills for solving problems, appreciating global concepts, and utilizing technology. Business Administration majors will exhibit strong leadership qualities and effective managerial skills in a professional environment.

Organizational Management

The Division offers two majors: ♦ Business Administration ♦ Organizational Management

The Organizational Management Program is an accelerated degree program that offers evening and weekend classes for working adults age 25 and older who have 60 semester hours of transferable college credits. The Program offers students an opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Science degree, with a major in Organizational Management in as little as eighteen months. With occasional exceptions, classes meet one evening a week from 6 to 10 p.m. This program is innovative in that students attend classes as a group or “cohort,” which in turn provides for academic exchange, peer support, and professional networking. Our students have access to library resources and services, advanced technology, service learning, and career services as well as a host of other resources and activities that are afforded to traditional students. Grants, scholarships, and student loans are available for students who qualify. The Division recognizes and celebrates academic excellence. Outstanding business students are invited to be members of the Lambda Omicron Chapter of Delta Mu Delta International Business Administration Honor Society.

To cultivate a sense of public responsibility, students are provided with numerous opportunities to participate in a variety of community service activities. Our students are strongly encouraged to continue their education and professional development by taking the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) and completing a graduate degree program in business.

Classroom lectures, special projects, internships and other community-based activities provide students with a theoretical foundation, content knowledge and practical applications in their respective majors. Courses in these majors, taught by a diverse faculty, are designed to develop students’ individual abilities and prepare them for advanced studies or careers in teaching, law enforcement, government, human services and the private sector.

The educational process is further enhanced through participation in laboratory experiences, seminars, conferences and field trips. The Forensic Center is a free-standing facility designed to provide training in forensic laboratory techniques in criminal investigations for students majoring in Criminal Justice. The Social Sciences Seminar gives students a forum through which they can synthesize and share knowledge across their respective majors. Attendance at annual professional meetings such as the Minority Pre-Law Conference enables our students to interact with practitioners in the fields to which they aspire.
