A NOTE FROM OUR PRESIDENT
Nurturing students and the all-encompassing features of academic excellence are among the reasons Morris College was established in 1908 by the Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention of South Carolina. That sense of nurturing is why we remain so deeply committed to becoming a stronger institution that offers affordable and accredited higher education while strengthening our foundation for future growth. Morris College is a student-centered institution. We embrace the idea that “Enter to Learn; Depart to Serve” is more than a motto. It is the standard for developing students. Thanks to our diverse faculty and staff, the college’s mission as a liberal arts and careerfocused institution is constantly being improved and advanced. We are preparing our students to succeed, developing them as tomorrow’s leaders and shaping them as teachers are but few of the things connected to the Morris College experience. They are also being directed toward human service endeavors which will further enhance their lives and positions in society. As president of this unique and wonderful college, I am truly grateful for all of our incredible supporters and friends who contribute to our success. On April 24, the college celebrated the groundbreaking of its Administration Building, a 16,400-square-foot facility that will serve as office space for administrative offices to include the Office of The President, Academic Dean, Office of Admissions and Records, Personnel, Planning and Governmental Relations, and Institutional Advancement. It will also include a Trustees Boardroom. The construction is projected to be completed within a 15-month period and funded through the $10M contribution from Dr. Solomon Jackson, Jr.

Bush: 2015 Fall Harvest Guest Preacher The Fall Harvest Worship Service and Rally will be held Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. on the campus of Morris College. The Reverend Dr. J. Albert Bush, Sr. will deliver the message. Bush, a native of Columbia, SC, has pastored the Walker Memorial Baptist Church in Bronx, NY, for more than thirty years. He holds the Bachelor of Arts degree from Benedict College, the Master of Divinity degree from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary and the Doctor of Ministry degree from Drew University Theological Seminary. Dr. Bush also completed training in the United States Air Force Chaplains Program at the U. S. Air University in Montgomery, AL. A visionary and spiritual leader, Dr. bush holds membership in several denominational and civic organizations. He is married to the former Ms. Mary R. Green of Gadsden, SC. They are the parents of four adult children and six grandchildren. The Fall Harvest is the college’s major fundraising event.

Morris Among Cybersecurity Consortium The White House announced in January that the U. S. Department of Energy will provide a $25 million grant over the next five years for cybersecurity education. The grant will support the creation of a new cybersecurity consortium consisting of 13 historically black colleges and universities, including Morris College; two national laboratories, and a K-12 school disctrict. Morris was awarded $1,049, 870.00 which will be used to recruit ten students, to be called Cyber Guardians. Guardians who maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher will receive an annual partial scholoarship and those who highly qualify, will participate in summer cybersecurity courses, research, or training. Currently two mathematics majors, Wesley Alexander and Tiara Howard, were selected for the 2015 Internship at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California. Dr. Radman Ali, chairperson for the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, will serve as project director.

The Reverend Dr. Mack T. Hines celebrated his 30th anniversary as pastor of the Saint Paul Baptist Church in Mullins, SC. Dr. Luns C. Richardson was among the church and family members, colleagues and friends in attendance. The event was held on December 13, 2014 at the National Guard Armory in Marion, SC. Dr. Hines, a past moderator of the Pee Dee Baptist Association, a past secretary of the Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention of South Carolina, a former member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, the immediate past moderator of the Florence and Affiliated Counties Baptist Educational Union, and currently serves as vice chairman of the Morris College Board of Trustees. He resides in Florence, SC, with his wife, Mrs. Gladys J. Hines.

2015-2016 sga officers, other leaders installed Dr. Luns C. Richardson installed the 2015-2016 Student Government Association (SGA) officers on April 23. In a presidential charge to the newly elected officers, President Richardson told them, “In order to be good leaders, there is a need to not only understand yourselves, but also it is important to understand the purpose and philosophy of Morris College.” He continued, “As SGA officers, you are Morris College’s hope for student leadership.” The new officers are: Patrick Outler, president; Darryl Cunningham, first vice president; DaVonte Theirse, second vice president; Carlton Richardson, secretary; Federica Staton, assistant secretary; SyQuesse Clyburn, treasurer; Rashard Witter, business manager; Belinda York, parliamentarian; and Jakes Sanders, III, chaplain. Kenyetta Young will reign as Miss Morris College; Toni Davis, first attendant; and SheAndra Famble, second attendant.
Reverend Donald E. Greene, Jr., member of the Morris College Board of Trustees, was honored with a 20th Anniversary Celebration on July 10 for his servant leadership as pastor of the historic Andrew Chapel Baptist Church in Orangeburg, SC . Dr. Richardson, among the distinguished guests in attendance, was on program to render the introduction of the guest preacher, Reverend Dr. James B. Blassingame, president of the Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention of South Carolina. Pastor Greene is embraced as an anointed, visionary leader who has accomplished many feats to include an unprecedented growth in the church’s ministry. Greene currently serves as the vice-president at large of the Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention of South Carolina. Married to the former Candice McNeil, they are the parents of two sons, Aaron Jacob and the late Caleb Andrew.
According to data collected on Morris College graduates between 2010 and 2014, there is a significant increase in the number of recent graduates enrolling and completing graduate and professional schools. Under the leadership of President Luns C. Richardson, the faculty and staff are doing an excellent job in preparing students in realizing their career goals for immediate job placement in the world of work, as well as preparing students for further studies beyond Morris College. “This is a good trend,” President Richardson commented, “which indicates that more of our students understand that going to graduate or professional school is needed to further enrich their education.” Morris College graduates are seeking advanced degrees in a variety of academic disciplines such as Religion, Optometry, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, Medicine, Optical Engineering, Nursing, English, Sociology, History, Criminal Justice, and many others. They are pursuing these degrees at institutions such as the College of Charleston, Florida A&M University, and Princeton Theological Seminary to name a few.
The closing exercises of the Ministerial Extension Certificate Centers were held on April 22. President Richardson awarded a total of 31 certificates of completion to participants. Dr. Jamey O. Graham, pastor of Saint John Baptist Church, Columbia, SC; delivered the convocation sermon. Graham, a Morris College honors graduate, is a regional vice president for the Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention of South Carolina. SCHOLARSHIP ESTABLISHED On March 12 Mrs. Fran Geddis (center), on behalf of Alumnus James V. “Ted” Wilson, presented a $25,000 gift to President Richardson during the Career Fest assembly program sponsored by the Morris College Career Services Center. The gift will be used to establish the J. V. Wilson Morris College Endowed Scholarship. Wilson, CEO and President of Universal Benefits Marketing Firm and Capital Investments, is the owner of The Imperial Restaurant in Sumter. A former Board of Trustees member, Reverend Dr. William P. Diggs, Sr., is featured in the 2015 Edition of The South Carolina African American History Calendar for the month of March. Dr. Diggs is a past moderator of the Pee Dee Baptist Association and is highly regarded throughout his religious affiliations on local, state and national levels. In December 2012, he retired from pastoral ministry at Trinity Baptist Church, Florence, SC, after a half a century of unselfish service and distinguished leadership. The Honorable Lucille S. Whipper, a former Board of Trustees member, at a Commitment to Justice Award Reception, was saluted as a “remarkable humanitarian and standard bearer of justice for all.” Hailed as a “great lady with an iron will,” Dr. Whipper is a past president of the Woman’s Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention of South Carolina, former member of the South Carolina House of Representatives and a former board member of Charleston County School District Twenty. The event was held March 19, 2015 at the Center For Heirs’ Property Preservation, Charleston, SC. She resides in North Charleston, SC and is the widow of the late reverend Dr. Benjamin J. Whipper, Sr.

Dr. Maggie Wallace Glover, director of Developmental Improvement Programs and Special Activities, delivered this year’s commencement address. She is the first faculty member to deliver the commencement address under President Richardson’s administration. Among her string of “firsts,” she is the first elected African-American woman in South Carolina to serve on the Florence District One School Board (1983), elected from the Sixth Congressional District, Democrat, to the SC House of Representatives for two terms (1988) and ran unopposed for a SC Senate seat (1992). When the General Assembly convened in January of 1993, Dr. Glover made history as the first African-American woman to serve in the SC Senate. Today, she is still the only black woman to have ever served in this state’s Senate. Dr. Glover holds a BS degree in English/Speech and Theatre Minor from Fayetteville State University, a Master of Education degree in Guidance and Counseling from Francis Marion University and an honorary degree of Doctor of Letters from Morris College. She has been with Morris College since April 2005.

STUDENT NEWS During American Education Week, the Morris College Student-South Carolina Education Association (S-SCEA) sponsored a book drive and over 70 children’s books were collected. On November 25, the books were donated to the North HOPE Center located at 904 North Main Street, Sumter, SC. The books were delivered by S-SCEA members, (from left to right) Amani Robinson, Deaja White, Veronica Thompson, and Betty Geddings, S-SCEA president.
Derwin Platt (left) and Isiah Brown (right), Elementary Education majors and members of the Morris College Call Me MISTER program, attended the 2015 Winter Conference of the South Carolina Alliance of Black School Educators (SCABSE) in January at the Kingston Resort, North Myrtle Beach, SC. The conference, attended by students, teachers, administrators and school board members, recognized exemplary educators and provided leadership training, teaching strategies, and networking opportunities. Student groups from several Sumter School District schools were included on the conference program. Keynote speakers included TV Judge Glenda Hatchett and Charles Orgbon, CEO of Greening Forward. The teacher candidates were accompanied by the Director of Teacher Education, Dr. Carol M. McClain. During the Junior Class assembly program held last semester, Mrs. Gail J. China (pictured fourth from the left), Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) director, recognized a group of students who have shown a 90% or above mastery of the QEP post vocabulary test. Students enrolled in the Junior Seminar class are responsible for learning 500 advanced vocabulary words. At the beginning of the semester the students are given a pre-vocabulary test, and at the end of the semester they are given a post-vocabulary test. The posttest consists of 150 randomly selected words from the list of 500. The students are required to show at least 80% mastery on the posttest. Those students who show a mastery level of 90% or above are placed on the QEP Wall of Fame located in the QEP lab in the Wilson-Booker Science Building. There were 18 students who earned a place on the QEP Wall of Fame during the spring and summer of 2014. On December 5, LaRon Adams of Marion, SC was the Morris College student representative at the Annual Pee Dee Area UNCF Gala. The event was held at the Florence County Civic Center. During the Pre-Fall Harvest assembly program, President Richardson crowned Ashley Vinston as Miss Homecoming. Carlton Richardson and Terieka Grooms were also crowned as Mr. and Miss Coed.

On November 18, six members of the Morris College Leadership Program attended the “Future Leaders Dialouge Dinner,” which was sponsored by the Atlantic Institute. The mission of the Atlantic Institute is to contribute to local and global peace by promoting the values of respect, acceptance, love, dialougue, and richness of faith and culture over centuries of time. Members of the Xi Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated collected donations of spare change for its “Change For Change” project. The collection period ran for one week. By doing this, the goal was to feed as many families as possible with the donations for the Thanksgiving holiday. With the funds collected they, along with members of its supporting graduate chapter, the Omicron Kappa Lambda Chapter, were able to purchase groceries and deliver them to two families.
Isiah D. Brown is the first fellow from Morris College to be chosen to particpate in the Walton-UNCF Education Reform Fellowship Program. The Program is a leadership and talent development initiative aimed at building a robust pipeline of high-achieving African Americans engaged in education reform. Main components of the Program include a paid summer internship, student leadership conference, education reform case competition, career coaching, as well as alumni and networking opportunities. Brown, a rising senior from Florence, SC majoring in elementary education; completed a summer internship with the Foundation Preparatory Charter School in New Orleans, LA.
On April 9, 2015 nine Morris College students were inducted as members into the Alpha Kappa Mu National Honor Society. Founded in 1937, Alpha Kappa Mu is a national scholastic honor society consisting of college juniors and seniors who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement by maintaining a of 3.3 or higher GPA during their collegiate careers. This year’s inductees included Lakenderia Albert, Tiara Howard, Kevin Means, Courtney Pech, Jasmine Richburg, Adonis Valdez, Ashley Vinston, Shaquille Washington, and Yvonne Wright.
During its Christmas Gala, the Morris College Atlanta Alumni Chapter awarded three Morris College students with $500 scholarships. Two students, Alton Butts and Imani Gibson-Aubry, received theirs from the chapter itself; and Mr. Jesse Williams on behalf of the Georgia Military Retirees of Fayetteville, NC presented a scholarship to Baylee Hawkins.

FA CULT Y A ND STA F F NE W S Dr. Elaine McClure, associate professor of Education and Elementary Education program coordinator, has been awarded the 2015 Excellence in Teaching Award by the South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (SCICU) Dr. McClure (center) with Representative J. David organization. Weeks and Kathy McKinney. For the past eleven years Dr. McClure has ensured students learn from her real-world experiences and hands on instructional strategies. She cares deeply for the students that she advises and teaches, and they soon realize that she is their biggest supporter. Dr. McClure has also planned and implemented new courses

and supervised practicum students in the local schools. She also serves as the director of Summer School, and received the Advisor of The Year Award at Morris in 2006-2007. Dr. Leroy Staggers, Morris College Academic Dean states, “The quality of Dr. McClure’s teaching is ultimately reflected in the great success of her students who graduate with a degree in elementary education. Invariably her students are offered jobs before they complete student teaching, and very frequently win awards for excellence in teaching in the public schools.” Annually, SCICU recognizes a faculty member from each of the 20-member institutions with this honor during an awards dinner. Each recipient is given a $3,000 professional development grant.

Dr. Ayo Awosanya, associate professor of Mathematics, in the Division of Natural Science and Mathematics attended the conference on the history and pedagogy of mathematics at the American University, Washington DC. The three-day conference included but was not limited to examining old and rare mathematics textbooks dating back to 1800s at the American University Library Archive, presentations on mathematics with topics ranging from History of Mathematics to Leonhard Euler’s work in Number Theory – especially his research from 1773 to 1783. Participants also visited the World-renowned gallery – the Phillips Collection to see and appreciate the journey from Mathematics to Shakespeare, which epitomized mathematical models, and Arts in general in nineteenth century pedagogy on the history of surfaces. Presentations were concluded the third day at noon. Participants and presenters in attendance include the followings: State University of New York at Oneota, Bowie State University, Catholic University of America, Adelphi University, University of Wisconsin, Madison, and University of Maryland, College Park.
Dr. Karis L. Clark, assistant professor in the Division of Education, attended the South Carolina Department of Education’s Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) and South Carolina’s Educator Evaluation System Training in Saluda, SC on October 31, 2014 and November 3, 2014. The objective of the training was for attendees to build understanding of what SLOs are, what the model looks like in SC, and they can be used for evaluation and professional growth. Additionally attendees learned about the SLO cycle and any implications for district leaders, school leaders, teachers, and institutions of higher learning. Special attention was also provided with regard to the preparation of district leaders to make decisions, develop support materials, and ways to implement SLO training on a local level. Mrs. Subira N. K. Whipper Smalls, director of the Student Health and Wellness Center, married Mr. Benjamin Franklin Smalls, II on Sunday, March 8, 2015. The ceremony was held at Salem Baptist Church in Charleston, SC.

Ms. Robyn Hall-Agent, catalog librarian in the Learning Resources Center, attended the 34th Annual Charleston Conference: Issues in Book and Serial Acquisition, held in Charleston, SC November 5-8, 2014. The conference focus was on collection development and acquisition. Attendees from various areas of the information industry – academia, publishers, libraries, etc. – met to discuss issues that affect us all, such as the impact of electronic books in the classroom and on the publishing industry.
Mr. Luke Stewart, maintenance assistant, was highlighted in the April 12 edition of The Sumter Item for his participation in the 10th Annual Festival on The Avenue. As head chef of Best Ribs, a Sumter-based catering business, Stewart is well known in the community for his flavorful ribs.

ALUMNI NEWS Hampton Leads state’s largest educational group Alumna Bernadette R. Hampton, on a crisp Thursday morning, returned to the campus on November 20, 2014 to speak during the American Education Week Assembly, sponsored by the Division of Education and the StudentSouth Carolina Education Association. Ms. Hampton used her “tiny little minute” to talk profoundly about American Education Week, the power of simple words to transform lives and how to use simple words to help transform lives. Also, she returned to the campus as president of the South Carolina Education Association: the state’s oldest and largest professional association of educators and education leaders. Ms. Hampton was born in Manhattan, NY, but grew up in Beaufort, SC where she resides. A Morris College magna cum laude graduate, she holds the Bachelor of Science in Mathematics (1992), the Masters of Education from Cambridge College, Cambridge MA, and a master’s degree from the University of South Carolina in Columbia. It was at Morris College that this Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society member and reigning Miss Morris College (1991-1992) heard the college’s motto – “Enter to Learn; Depart to Serve.” – repeated often. It was a powerful, practical piece of advice that guided and inspired her personally and professionally. Her strong appreciation of the college’s motto attributed to her accomplishment and contributed to her highly successful tenure as a high school teacher. Hampton was employed with the Beaufort County School District for 21 years as a mathematics teacher at Battery Creek High School where she graduated. During

her teaching career, she received numerous honors and recognitions for her work ethics and teaching methods. Included among them are: Battery Creek High School Teacher of the Year (2004-2005), Battery Creek High School Certified Employee of the Quarter (March, 2006) and Battery Creek High School Math Department Chairperson (2007-2014). Hampton’s love for teaching and working with students has opened other doors of opportunities for this Who’s Who Among American Teachers recipient such as when Dr. Paul R. Burden, one of the authors of Methods for Effective Teaching (6th edition, (2013) published a case study submitted by Hampton. Burden, Assistant Dean for Teacher Education in the College of Education at Kansas State University, said her “excellent insights help teachers have a realistic expectation of teaching.” A distinguished and dedicated educator, Hampton does not believe that “service stops with the choice of a livelihood.” A few committees on which Hampton has served are: High Schools That Work; the Beaufort County School District Forum; the Collaborative Research Council for the Center of Excellence in Collaborative Learning at the University of South Carolina Beaufort; Advancement via Individual Determination and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Having been engaged in the Unified Education Profession for 21 years, she has served as vice president of the South Carolina Education Association, vice president and president of the Beaufort County Education Association and the South Carolina Education Association Board of Directors. Hampton is active in and has been nationally
recognized for her work on environmental issues, classroom management and high stakes testing. In addition to being an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Beaufort, she is a member of the South Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the Beaufort County Education Association, the South Carolina Education Association, the Morris College National Alumni Association and a life member of the National Education Association. Morris College is proud of the accomplishments of Ms. Hampton. Her passion and inspiration as an educator and educational leader proves that she is a “part of something that matters, that raises people up and celebrates them, that brings encouragement and a sense of appreciation to others.” Having hailed her as one of the college’s “most outstanding graduates in recent years,” Dr. Luns C. Richardson adds, “She has done extremely well which means Morris College is recognized throughout this state and nation.”

The pageant winner was Little Miss Andrea Shaneece James (far right), the daughter of Ms. Shawndolyn Williams and Mr. Lavorron James. Master Maleak Antwan Johnson, the son of Ms. Sheena M. Davis and Mr. Jarren Johnson, was the runner-up. Winners were crowned by the 2014 pageant winner, Little Miss Asia Grant. The Morris College Lee County Alumni Chapter sponsored its annual fundraiser, the Miss Tots to Teens Pageant, on May 17 at New Zion AME Church, Reverend Archie S. Temoney, pastor. The proceeds for this year’s pageant were donated to the college. The pageant winner was Kierston Danielle McDuffie, daughter of Ms. Chauntae and Mr. Ceric McDuffie. The first runner-up was Destiny Burroughs, daughter of Ms. Vida M. Bradley. The second runner-up was Kristina L. Kennedy, daughter of Ms. Tina Dixon. Shakyra Isaac, daughter of Ms. Annette Isaac, was a pageant participant. Mr. Willie Blyther serves as chapter president.
The Morris College Florence Alumni Chapter hosted its Annual Morris College Day at Monumental Baptist Church in Florence, SC. During the program host pastor and alumnus, Dr. Vandroth Backus, along with alumnus, Dr. Mack T. Hines presented Mrs. Rita Briggs with an award in recognition of her financial contribution in honor of her husband, the late Mr. Roland Briggs. Mrs. Elanor Nowlin Backus serves as chapter president.

CLASS NOTES Isaac Joe, Class of 1940, recently turned 100 years old. In recognition of this milestone, his family and friends hosted a birthday celebration in the college’s Daniels Dining Hall. In 2005, the college awarded him an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree. In 2013, Dr. Joe donated 83 acres of land, which is located near his hometown of Bishopville, SC, because “I love Morris College.” Samuel L. Farrow, Class of 1950, was chosen as a 2014 Outstanding Volunteer in the Poway Unified School District during the Rancho Bernardo Volunteer Recognition Ceremony. Farrow, a retired educational administrator, lives in San Diego, CA; and volunteers with Seniors Helping Our Kids and the OASIS Tutoring programs. Paquita Kimeco Bradley, Class of 1983, was elected national president of the National Black Coalition of Federal Aviation Employees (NBCFAE) in September 2014. It is the largest special emphasis employee association within the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). She previously served as national vicepresident and Southern Region president, fighting diligently for equal representation for minorities within the Federal Aviation Administration. She has garnered support from companies such as Ascension Aircraft, Walmart and Blue Cross Blue Shield for partnership in her vision of aviation scholarships for the community. Bradley‘s home is Bishopville, SC; her aviation career began as a cooperative education student while attending Morris College. She later joined the FAA and spent a few years in the Flight Service option. She entered the Air Traffic Controller Training Program at Atlanta Enroute Air Traffic Control Center where she worked for over 20 years first as a controller and then as a front line manager. In 2012, she joined the FAA Quality Assurance Group where she investigates aircraft incidents. A dedicated daughter, she is the mother of two beautiful daughters, Kimberly and Nijah; and grandmother to one grandson, Jamil. She is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., and serves on several committees of the Morris College Alumni Association. Troy Glover, Class of 1986, has been elected by his peers and colleagues to serve on the Council of Educational Facility Planners International Board of Directors. Glover, an educational facility planner with Fanning/Howey Associates, Inc., Dublin, Ohio; serves as president of the Morris College Ohio Alumni Chapter.
Tamiko Jones and James Moody, Class of 1998, were married on August 30, 2014 at Unity Missionary Baptist Church in Eutawville, SC. Pastor Aaron T. Brown (also a Morris graduate) officiated the ceremony. Mr. Moody, a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, is currently employed with the Charleston Municipal Court; and Mrs. Jones-Moody, a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, is employed by the SC Youth Advocate Program. They reside in Summerville, SC. Reverend Leonard O. Griffin, Class of 1999, is the newly appointed chairman of the Home Mission Board (HMB). The HMB’s mission is to partner with the constituency of the National Baptist Convention (NBC), USA, Inc. throughout the United States, Virgin Islands and Overseas US Military related ministries. Its goal is to spread the Gospel message of Jesus Christ and advance the Kingdom of God in Envisioning the Future Exceptionally in Caring and Sharing the Master’s Mercy and Might. Prior to this appointment, which was made during the Mid-Winter Board Meeting held in Jackson, Mississippi on January 12-15, he served as an HMB regional coordinator for North and South Carolina. Additionally, HMB is the outreach arm of the NBC, USA, Inc. assisting churches and pastors when natural disasters strike on American soil as well as partner for special evangelism missions with the Evangelism Team of the NBC, USA, Inc.. Griffin, a past president of the Morris College Student Government Association, serves as pastor of the historic Morris Street Baptist Church in Charleston, SC. He and his wife, Wandalyn, reside in Goose Creek, SC with their two children, Kandache and Kemuel. Marquice Clark, Class of 2012, a reigning “Teacher of The Year,” recently participated in the Call Me MISTER Stakeholder Engagement Roundtable to discuss issues realted to teacher diversity and how this longstanding, successful teacher preparation program can be adopted by institutions of higher education throughout the United States. The roundtable was hosted during The White House Initiative on HBCUs. In February, Clark represented Call Me MISTER at the National Title I Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah where he discussed ideas and best practices to help less priviledged children succeed in the classroom.

The Morris College National Alumni Association (MCNAA) Weekend was hosted April 9-12, 2015 by the Morris College Baltimore Alumni Chapter at the Baltimore Marriott Inner Harbor at Camden Yard. The weekend’s activities included honoring classes ending in ‘0 and ‘5 as well as recognition of those who graduated more than 50 years ago. During the weekend’s banquet, the following awards were presented: Mrs. Queen Williams Spann, Distinguished Service Award; Ms. Bernadette Hampton, Professional Alumnus Award; Reverend Dr. Eliza R. E. Morris College was recently recognized when our president was included on a large mural in the Sumter Mall. The murals, which reflect the Sumter community, has President Richardson among the list of familiar faces patrons now see as they stroll the mall. His mural reads: “Sumter is a unique and wonderful city that continues to make great strides. Steeped in heritage, history and patriotic zeal, its creative and enriching atmosphere encourages revitalization and greater economic opportunities.
