Entering Open Class Exhibits It is time to begin thinking about what you will enter in the Open Class Division at the Stevens County Fair. Be it your favorite picture you took this past year, a quilt you made, sewing, knitting, or tatting. Perhaps it’s a favorite craft project you have completed or those beautiful flowers you have. Do you have a big tomato and other vegetables from your garden or tasty, tempting baking and canning you do? We’d love to put them on display and see what prize you get awarded! Anyone from preschooler to senior citizen is eligible to enter. Our Premium List includes entry lots for many types of exhibits – from farm crops, fruits, vegetables, and flowers, to canned and baked goods, to beautiful quilts and needlework, to impressive photographs. Children are invited to show their creativity and talents with arts and crafts projects, collections, baking, gardening, or photography. There have been many additions made in the Open Class lots…be sure to read carefully before bringing your entries. Changes have been made in the photography section where we have made a division for professional photographers. We also have to limit entries to no more than 200 per exhibitor. Please have your lot numbers written down before coming to the building. Entry day for Open Class is Wednesday, August 6. You may bring your exhibits in from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Entries for Open Class animals will also be Wednesday, August 6 BUT the animals will not be brought to the fairgrounds until Thursday, August 7. You may pre-register on-line at www.scfair.net by Tuesday, August 5, 6 p.m or use the form included in this booklet. If you have more than twenty exhibits, please enter them before 2 p.m Wednesday. All entries must be ready to be displayed at entry time. If you are entering flowers this year, we provide white vases (tall and short) to display your entries. Please leave a generous length of stem on your entry. Please check the premium lot numbers carefully to be sure you have your exhibits entered into the correct category and lot number. Only ONE entry per lot is allowed. The rules are listed at the beginning of the Premium List.

Special awards may be given in some categories in addition to ribbons and premiums. Several entries in various classes are chosen as Best of Show award winners. Many area businesses donate prizes in addition to the fair premiums. The Open Class building is open for all fairgoers to view the exhibits from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. On Thursday the building will open ONLY AFTER the judging is completed. Exhibits will be released on Sunday, August 10 from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. No early releases. You can pick up your check at this time too. Social media a good link to find fair info As times change, so do the ways the world finds out info, and social media is a big part of things to today’s world. The fair is also moving forward, not only with the web site at www.scfair.net, but we also have a Facebook page as well as Twitter, Vine and Instagram. Our fair web site was voted number one fair web site in the state again last year by the MFCF. This year, all our forms on the web site can be filled out online then printed. This makes it much easier for not only you, but helps us in being able to read what is on the form. As this year’s fair season begins, watch for info to be posted on the social media sites. If you or your family use any of these social media sites, we highly encourage you to utilize the hashtag: #scfair14 on any of the sites above.

Fair Appreciation Supper to be held August 6

The Stevens County Fair Appreciation Supper is set for Wednesday, August 6 at 5:30 p.m. at the Lee Community Center. The supper is free with the purchase of the $7 fair button. The supper includes barbeque pork and roast beef sandwiches; courtesy of the Stevens County Pork Producers and the West Central Cattlemen’s Association. Also included in the meal will be; baked beans, ice cream sandwiches, milk, chips, pop, and hotdogs for the kids. The supper is served by the Stevens County Pork, Beef, and Dairy producers, in addition to fairboard members and Morris Royalty. Entertainment will be the 2014 Kiwanis Talent Show winners. Other events are; awarding the Century Farm award, Farm Family of the Year award, and Emerging Farm Leaders of the Year award. Buttons can be purchased from 4-H members, Willie’s Super Valu, Unger’s Furniture and Gervais Jewelery. With the button you will have a chance to win the grand prize, a trip to San Antonio, Texas, which will be awarded the night of the Appreciation Supper, August 6. Upgrades continue at the Fairgounds

There are new things you can see at the fair as you walk around the grounds for 2014, thanks to the help from local people and businesses that make things happen. Take your time as you walk around to see these new changes. Within the past few years the 4-H Exhibit building took on a new look with new outside walls, new back door and new steel roof. The 4-H Food Stand got an upgraded front and the Open Class Building has seen a new roof. This year the Homemakers Building took on a new roof to keep the rain out. You may see the changes in the wash rack area for the livestock as you drive by or take a trip thru the barns to see this updated area with new wash racks and staging area for judging. As you drive into the south parking lot, you will see the changes that we plan to be working more this summer again adding more gravel parking lot space. There are a lot more changes that took place since last year’s fair and the Stevens County Fairboard works hard to keep your grounds looking good and making updated needed changes to make this a fun event and something we are both proud of when you come out to the fair.

Family Fun Show carnival rides at the fair are the best Carnival ride tickets at the Stevens County Fair are some of the best buys you will find anywhere. We can say even if you wait and buy ride tickets at the grounds, it will still be a super great buy with the prices even if you get them early. Tickets are on sale now and until just prior to the fair at all area banks, Meadowland Market, Willie’s Super Valu, Ungers and Shopko. This is the best way to save, buy now and get a strip of 10 tickets for just a low price of $17. This is only $1.70 per ticket and it only takes one ticket for any ride no matter what age you are, what could be better! The neat thing is they are good all days of the fair, including wrist band night. So why wait in line for your wrist band on Thursday night just use your advance ride tickets instead? Yes, we will again have the wrist band for the one time four hour time frame from 6 to 10 p.m. on Thursday for the low price of $20. The Family Fun Shows will again be our carnival with a lot of great rides to pick from. At many fairs you find ride prices taking more than one ticket or being very expensive, but not at the Stevens County Fair. We want this to be a fun event where you will enjoy your stay at the fair!

Entry Fees for all classes: Pre registration for all classes. $30.00 if received or post marked by Wed. August 6, 2014. After that it is $40.00. Entry fee includes the driver. Send to and make checks payable to Stevens Co. Fair in care of the Demo Derby P.O. Box 622 Morris MN 56267. Pits open at 2:00 P.M. Inspection must be completed by 4:30 Must attend mandatory pit meeting at 5:45 Penalty for being late is $100.00. No cars, pickups or people after 5:00-no exceptions! Tell sponsors and people to be on time. Cars must be removed by Aug. 12, 2014. CLASSES: COMPACT CARS: Any foreign or domestic passenger type car, front or rear wheel drive up to 108". From 108" to 111" must be front wheel drive only. 4 or 6 cylinder only (no V8s). FULL SIZE: Any foreign or domestic passenger car, no 1973 and older Imperials, Imp. Subs, El Caminos, hearses, checkered cabs, or limos. 6 cylinder vehicles in the full size class must be over 111" wheel base, or have a V8 motor. MODIFIED LARGE CAR / MODIFIED SMALL CAR: WHEEL BASE WILL BE SAME AS CHAIN STOCK. SEE ATTACHED RULES GENERAL RULES: 1. No driver or pitman thought to be under the influence of alcohol, or drugs, will be allowed to participate, enter, and/or remain in exhibition area. NO ALCOHOL in pit area before or during event! VIOLATION WILL result in disqualification and forfeiture of entry fees/winnings. 2. Under 14-year-olds MUST have parent’s written consent to be in pit. Drivers must be 16 or older, with waver. No one under the age of 14 will be allowed in the pit area. 3. Everyone entering the event area is required to sign and print their own name before going into the pit areas. 4. Yelling at, use of profanity toward or interrupting an official while they are trying to monitor the event will result in RED FLAGGING of the event and offender(s) will be escorted from the event area before the event will resume. This will also mean disqualification and forfeiture of fees/winnings. Drivers, tell your pit crew to keep their tongues in check, as this goes for them as well!! 5. All drivers and pit crew, and anyone in the pits, are required to attend the pit meeting. 6. The officials reserve the right to disqualify any demo unit or driver determined to be unsafe or not in spirit of rules before, during or after the event. All calls are final. 7. All motion will be stopped immediately upon signal from the official in case of fire, injury, or emergency. 8. No hitting driver’s door or you will be disqualified! Don’t use your door as a shield. 9. Any car 51% out of bounds will be disqualified, unless forced out. 10. No team driving, no warnings. 11. Time limit on last hit is 2 minutes. (A hit means bending metal. Bumping, scratching, or brushing is not a hit.) 12. You have 2 minute to restart your vehicle or you will be disqualified. 13. If a car is leaking gas you will be disqualified. 14. If any part of the vehicle starts on fire, you will have one chance to restart it. 15. Drivers must wear full face helmet and have working seat belt. 16. NO WELDERS ALLOWED IN PITS! 17. DEMO CARS AND PICKUPS WILL BE PARKED IN A DESIGNATED AREA AFTER INSPECTION AND NO ONE IS ALLOWED INSIDE. 18. PROTEST FEE CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND ONLY, $100 CASH, TOP TWO CARS, YOU HAVE 15 MINUTES TO PROTEST, TOP TWO CARS WILL GO TO DESIGNATED AREA, IF FOUND ILLEGAL, YOUR MONEY WILL BE RETURNED AND THE CAR WILL BE DISQUALIFIED, IF UNIT IS LEGAL YOUR MONEY WILL BE FORFEITED TO THE FAIRBOARD. YOU MUST BE SPECIFIC ON WHAT IS WRONG. DEMO UNIT RULES 1. All chrome, door handles, pot metal, glass, lights and anything loose must be removed from any part of the unit. Air bags must be removed. 2. Engine and tranny must be in stock location, no holes in firewall NO HOLES IN FLOOR! Radiator 3. May be removed but not relocated and no extra heater cores, water barrel or extra coolers of any kind.

Bumpers 4. Bumpers of choice, brackets may be welded to bumper and to frame front and back. Bumper shocks may be welded in place and made solid. No added steel of any kind. You must have (even if welded) 2 chains per bumper single wrap around bumper, bolted to frame. Compact bumpers ON compact cars. Full size bumper ON full size car. Pickup bumpers may be stock pickup or car bumpers. No ag or homemade bumpers allowed. Trailer hitches must be completely removed. No brush guards or bumper guards. All bumpers must be stock height. WINDSHIELDS 5. Must have two welded straps or rods to protect driver. May have mud screen on driver’s side only. DASH 6. Dash may be removed and replaced by no larger then 3" tubing. No extra holes in fire wall. DRIVER’S SEAT 7. Drivers seat must be bolted in place with working seat belt. One cross support behind seat may be added no larger then 3" tubing. May be X braced. GAS TANKS 8. Old gas tanks must be removed. TIRES AND RIMS 9. Standard DOT highway tires. No oversized tires, no Bobcat tires, no extra tire flaps, no double tires. No filled tires, no bead locks or screws in rims. No split rims. SUSPENSION 10. No reinforcement of any suspension. 11. Shock absorbers must function, no coil over shocks. This means it must move up and down. No clamps on springs must remain stock. Must have working brakes. No adding springs. No reinforcing of tie rods. DRIVER’S DOOR 12. Must be painted contrasting color. May have safety support bolted or welded not to exceed 6" passed either edge of the door. Other doors must be chained only. Wagons no wire ties in back windows. INSIDE THE CAR 13. Maximum of 2 batteries and 1 gas tank. Must be covered and mounted securely. No wire or rubber straps for hold downs. HOOD AND TRUNK 14. Hood must remain in original position. Must be able to be opened. May be chained, or 4 hood and 4 trunk pins. 1" diameter maximum Only 2 may go to the frame. You may weld or bolt to frame. Washer must remain separate from each other. 6" diameter maximum. If you put pins through your frame you may use a 3 x 3 x 1/4 plate on top and bottom of frame. But cannot be welded to the frame and you may use jam nuts. Front pins may be welded only to core support. Need 12" access hole in hood and trunk for fire. FRAME 15. No reinforcement. No floor plating. Suspect frames will be drilled. No filling of frames. OTHER 16 No team driving, no warnings. 17. Driver must wear full face helmet and have working seat belt. No profanity or slanderous words allowed. 18. All calls final by head flagman. 19. Number should be on doors and top and no profanity. 20. If your doors open, you are disqualified. ADDITIONAL RULES FOR CAR CLASSES: NO GREY AREA BUILDING 1. May have safety support bolted or stitched welded not to exceed 6" passed either edge of the door. 2. All other doors must be chained with no more then 6' of chain per door. 3. No use of wire to tie shut or brace windows. 4. All electric fuel pumps must have an inline disconnect attached behind driver’s seat easily reached by firefighters to turn off pump. 5. Factory equipped springs; no blocking, shackle extensions, booster or air shocks. Must have standard equipment and at a standard height. Suspension must function, that means must move. NO REINFORCEMENT! 6. Two wheeled drive cars only. All wheel drive may be used if one axel is disassembled. 7. No adding of material unless other wise stated. 8. Cars must have functioning brakes. Take a break at the Rest Cottage Fair goers are invited to take advantage of the Rest Cottage located next to the office on the Stevens County Fair Grounds. It’s front door is located on the south side of the office building—next to the Homemakers Building. It’s a two-room, air conditioned facility equipped with baby crib, changing table, bed, and rocking chairs. A wonderful place for feeding and caring for a child. It is also a good place for livestock exhibitors to change clothes, but anyone can enjoy the Cottage as a place for resting. Rest Cottage hours are from noon to 8 p.m. on Thursday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Stevens County Homemakers The Stevens County Homemakers consist of eight clubs with 82 members. The homemakers take turns meeting in members’ homes once a month fall through spring. Some clubs meet during the summer. Each club sends one or two of their members to the lesson planning for the month. The lessons held in the last year were: Winterizing Our Gardens/Perennials, Braided Rugs, Simple Home Repairs, Dutch Cooking and Culture, and Staying Resilient in Times of Change. The clubs usually submit recipes to be made into a cookbook every year and this year’s theme was “Cooking for One or Two.” The Stevens County Homemakers has a board called the Home Council. Each club has a counselor and a co-counselor. The counselor sits on the Home Council and the Home Council makes decisions for all the clubs. If the counselor can’t attend for some reason, then the cocounselor usually attends. The Home Council meets in November, April, and July. The counselor and co-counselor each are expected to join a committee. These committees are County Fair, Lesson

Planning, and Recognition Banquet. Fair time is very important to the Homemakers and they have their own building on the fair grounds. Each member is asked to exhibit at least one item in the fair and some members enter 30 or more items. Members of the clubs help out at the fair in many ways such as: entering exhibits, decorating the building, being judging assistants, and displaying items once they are judged. Fair time is something that the Homemakers look forward too and enjoy every year.

STEVENS COUNTY FAIRBOARD DEMO DERBY • Sunday, August 10, 2014 • 7 PM CONTINUED FROM PAGE 6 Modified Car Class LARGE AND SMALL: Vehicle Type 1. Any American made hard top, 2 or 4 door, automobile or station wagon is permitted. 2. No trucks, Jeeps, hearses, limousines, ambulances, 4x4’s, or utility vehicles. 3. Full frame Imperials allowed, as well as, Imperial sub-frames. PREPARTION 1. All glass; including windshield, side & rear windows, head & tail lights, and marker lights, must be removed. Air bags must be removed. 2. Sunroofs must be covered with sheet metal and properly secured. 3. All exterior chrome molding strips, hubcaps, emblems, wiper arms, plastic grills, outside door handles, and plastic or fiberglass header panels must be removed before entering fairgrounds. 4. All carpeting, interior molding strips, rear seats, headliners, inner door panels, and any other flammable material must be removed before entering fairgrounds. 5. Dashboards are recommended. 6. Vehicles must be swept free of all debris. 7. No profanity of any kind of allowed to be painted on vehicle. 8. Driver’s door and roof MUST be painted white with your number painted clearly and visibly or you must run a roof sign. ROOF SIGN HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. INTERIOR AND BODY 1. Two batteries, any size permitted. Must be securely mounted to floor and covered. 2. Push buttons permitted, must be clearly marked in plain view. NO LOOSE WIRING. 3. Original fuel tank must be removed and replaced with marine type, plastic or steel tank, and securely mounted to rear floor and covered. Maximum 8 gallon. 4. All fuel lines must be secured, clamped, & leak-proof. Any car leaking fuel will result in disqualification. 5. Electric fuel pumps are permitted, but must have a visible shut-off switch and in plain view, for safety. 6. Doors must be fastened shut by wire, chain, banding or welding. Any door that comes open will result in disqualification. It is highly recommended that the driver’s door be reinforced. 7. Only rust holes may be patched with no thicker than 14-gauge sheet metal. 8. It is MANDATORY that a 4-point type safety cage be placed in driver’s compartment. 2 bars, not to exceed 4” diameter or square. One (1) bar horizontal across dash and one (1) bar horizontal behind seat. Two (2) adjoining bars, perpendicular to dash and seat bar, to attach then together. End plates not to exceed 12” square AND CANNOT EXCEED 6” PAST THE DRIVER’S SEAT. Bars must be securely welded. 9. Gas tank protector MAY be used. 10. Roll-over bar is permitted and must be attached to safety cage only! 11. Rubber body mounts may be replaced with maximum 5/8” bolts and 3” washers and solid mounted to frame in factory location ONLY. 12. Must have 2 window bars in windshield. Flat stock (3” wide max by ¼” thick) or chains may be used. You may have one (1) read window bar, flat stock or chain. 13. You may cut wheel wells for clearance. You can bold wheel wells with 3/8” bolts 1” washers in eight (8) places per wheel. HOOD, DECK LID, AND TAILGATE 1. Hood must have a 10” hold cut into either side of carburetor, unless using headers. 2. Fuel injected cars must have a 6” hold cut above fuel injection unit. 3. Hoods must be open for inspection and then fastened shut by #9 wire, banding, bolts, or chain. Two (2) strands of wire per hold. Maximum 6 locations. Two (2) locations may run from hood to bumper with wire, chain, or banding. If using bolts they can not exceed 5/8” x 2”. Angle iron can not exceed 3” x 3” x ¼”. 4. Deck lids and tailgates may be fastened shut by wire, banding, chain, welding, or bolting in 6 locations. Bolts must be used same as hood. If welding, you may weld solid with 3” x ¼” plates. 5. You may use up to 1” ready rod in two (2) places that go through the frame at your core support. 4” x1/4” plate or washer. You may do this in the rear, through the trunk in two (2) places only. CHASSIS AND FRAME 1. Frames cannot be reinforces or strengthened in anyway whatsoever! NO loaded frames! Frames will be checked thoroughly! 2. Pre-ran frames may be repaired at a minimum! No extra metal added. 3. Notching is permitted. 4. Frame seams may be welded. No ADDING of metal! This will be strictly enforced!

5. Official’s decisions on frame are final. 6. Trailer hitches must be removed. 7. No special bumpers may be used. 8. Bumper may be welded solid to frame but cannot re-enforce frame in anyway. No added steel. 9. A chain must be wrapped around the bumper. Chains may be bolted or welded to frame. SUSPENSION 1. LEAF CONVERSTIONS: Seven (7) springs—60” long max—2 1/2” wide x 5/16” thick max—1” stagger required. Welding rear shackle allowed. Shackles may be no larger than 8” long x 3” wide x 1/4” thick. Front spring mounts to be no larger than 6” long x 3” wide x 1/4” thick. All bolts for conversion not to exceed 3/4”. NO welding on springs. NO duct tape on springs. Clamp size 2” wide x 1/4” thick, eight (8) per car allowed. 2. Rear ends maybe 8-lug. 3. Hump plates may be used it you do not convert your leafs. 1/4” thick x 4” wide x 24” long, only two (2) per car. If can be welded solid, must be welded to the outside rear frame rails ONLY, somewhere above the rear axle. 4. You may use 4 leaf clamps per side (2 in front of axel and 2 behind-4 per side). 5. You may chain your humps. Frame rail to axle only, one (1) chain per side. 6. You may reinforce tie rods and control arms. 7. You may lock front suspension. ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION 1. Any motor/transmission combination is permitted. 2. Motor and transmission mounts may be chained or welded, so long as it does not strengthen the frame in anyway. 3. Hand throttles permitted. 4. Shifting linkage may be altered. 5. Air cleaner mandatory. No ether allowed. 6. Transmission coolers are permitted and must be placed behind driver’s seat. All lines must be securely clamped and leak-proof. 7. Distributor protectors and engine protectors will be permitted! NO KICKERS to the dash bar will be allowed. You may use an engine cradle if you are swapping motors. 8. Gas tank protectors may be used, but CANNOT touch any part of the car. It must be free floating. You must attach to rear seat bar and must have a minimum of 8” from rear doors or body of the car and must have at least 2” between protector and rear panel. TIRES, RADIATOR, AND FAN 1. Maximum 16” tires. Nor liquid in tires. Tubes acceptable. Double tires allowed. 2. No studded tires. No tires screws, rivets or bead lock on rims. No split rims. Wheel weights must be removed. You may use valve stem protectors. 3. Radiator must remain in stock location. 4. Steel clutch fans must be covered. Electric fans permitted. SAFETY AND RUNNING 1. Each driver/car is only allowed one (1) re-inspection. 2. Only driver & one (1) crew member permitted during inspection. 3. All cars must comply with the rules. 4. Inspections will be thorough! Official’s decision is final! 5. DOT or SNELL approved helmet mandatory. 6. Safety belts required. Eye protection must be worn. Long pants, sleeves, and gloves are a must. 7. A 2.5 lb. working fire extinguisher must be mounted and properly secures within driver’s reach. 8. Heats will be divided up according to the number of cars, may be only one heat. 9. Driver will go in his assigned heat and position. Any attempted changing of assigned heat &position will result in disqualification. 10. No deliberate driver’s door hits. 11. Do not get out of your car unless instructed by track personnel. 12. Any door that comes open will result in disqualification. 13. Any car smoking excessively or leaking fuel will be disqualified. 14. Boundaries must be maintained at all times. 15. One (1) minute time limit on all hits. 16. Hits must be aggressive! Not making aggressive hits is considered “sandbagging.” Sandbagging will not be tolerated for any reason. 17. All cars must have dependable brakes. 18. When the sire sounds, all drivers must stop immediately. 19. All drivers must attend driver’s meeting. 20. All work must be done before arrival. 22. No welders allowed in pits! CONTINUED ON PAGE 11

2014 STEVENS COUNTY FAIRBOARD DEMO DERBY • WELDED/HEAVY PICKUPS CONTINUED FROM PAGE 10 Any 2wd foreign or domestic ½ ton, ¾ ton, 1 ton pickup truck, regular or extended cab pickup trucks, any full size suburban type truck is also allowed. NO commercial trucks, grain trucks or FRAMES. Front drive shaft must be removed on 4wd pickups. 1. Absolutely NO frame swapping, extending, shortening, or altering of frame or frame cross members at all. Must be same frame that came with pickup from factory for that year. 2. No swapping of front suspension from coil or leaf spring to a straight axle type suspension, must retain same type of factory suspension for that year pickup. Refer to Rule #21 as well. 3. If it’s not stated in the rules DO NOT DO IT. You must also abide by the general rules 4. Motor & transmission of choice (crossbreeding) is allowed. Motor and transmission may be chained down. You may weld mounts and or use 4, 2”x1/4” thick straps mounted anywhere on engine only, and welded flat to the top of frame within 2” in front and or behind a-arms, or to engine cross member. If we feel it’s too much or adds strength you will cut. 5. Metal fuel tank 6 gallon max boat style or approved fuel cell. Absolutely no plastic tanks. Must be located behind driver in rear seating area either in center or directly behind driver seat (extended cab or suburban). Any regular cab should be in the center of box up against cab. You must have a metal shield over fuel tank (splash guard) if you are NOT using a typical fuel cell. No bungees or rubber mats. Tank must be securely fastened to the floor or box of cab. Gas lines CANNOT go through rear window area, cut large hole through box and cab. Make sure lines are protected and secure. You may put a small cage around fuel tank, only attached to floor or body, not frame . You may also have a roll loop in the box up against the cab with kickers no farther back then the front of front spring mounts. Must be min. of 2 inches in front of spring mounts. 6. 2 batteries are allowed. Must be securely fastened to floor in front passenger seat area, and covered with a floor mat or rubber. No bungies. 7. DOT approved tires on drive wheels. Front tires may be non DOT type tire, no tractor type treads. NO SPLIT RIMS AT ALL. Tires may be flapped, doubled up or foam filled, we don’t want any flats. 8. Bumpers of choice. Brackets (any factory made bumper brackets, or 4” angle choose 1 not both) may be welded to bumper and to frame front and back, brackets are 1 per side of frame not on top or bottom of frame, do not wrap brackets around frame. Bumper shocks may be welded in place and made solid. No added steel of any kind, just use welder. You may bolt shocks in place using only factory holes, and no cross bolting thru shock body. If you do not weld you must have 2 chains or (#9 wire) 4 loops per bumper around bumper. Outer skin of bumper may be fully welded to inner part of bumper ends may be cut and wrapped over, but put a 1/2” hole in ends for inspection. Car bumpers are allowed, no Ag. or homemade. You may box in the front 8” of c-channel frame with ¼” thick material max. For sole purpose of attaching bumper. You are allowed to use stated brackets and shocks only. NO SQUARE OR ROUND TUBE INSERTED OR ALONG SIDE FRAME AT ALL. Must have front and rear bumpers. 4 total 2”x10”x1/8” thick straps are allowed from box/frame to top of rear bumper to keep it attached. 9. Axle may be made full posi. Stock type radiator in stock location are allowed. Headers, transmission coolers are allowed. If no headers a 12” dia. hole must be cut in hood. 10. Core support: you are allowed 1 piece of 2”x2”x1/4” angle across top of core support with a single 2”x2”x1/4” piece of angle iron from top of support no further back than 16” from stock support location welded to top or frame only and parallel with frame rail 1 per side. NO gussets. Frame seams may be fully welded entire length ½ “wide bead use welder only, no added steel. No attaching inner fender to frame in any way. 11. Hood may be moved forward and wrapped over front end no further down than the top of bumper may be chained but not welded to bumper or frame. Hole in hood must be big enough for inspection, may weld hood down. Hood opening for headers may have up to (10) 3/8 bolts per opening. Wrapping of fenders, doors, and front fenders around headlight area is allowed, may be bolted or welded. 12, 3/8” bolts and 2” dia fender washers are allowed on all 4 wheel wells. Rear part of box (from tire humps rearward) may be folded down and attached to box floor only, not frame, if you do not have a tail gate. 12. Use of #9 wire, 2 per rear window opening, 4 loops or 8 strands max per loop on saddagons only to hold roof down. These may go to frame.

13. Driver door bar is MANDATORY. Build driver’s door to take a hit. Door bar must be a minimum of 4” wide by ¼ thick welded or bolted no further than 6” past each end of driver door only. If you use channel type material you must radius the ends or 45 them .Drivers door may be welded solid. Door bar may be inside and or outside, but you MUST have at least one or both in place. 14. Dash bar (1) 3” dia max may have 6x6 x1/4 plates on ends and must be either welded or bolted in place no higher than original dash height. You may have 2 behind the drivers seat bars in any pattern, use same size and attachment guidelines. Stubs from bars to floor are allowed, NOT frame. You may also have 1 door bar on drivers and passenger front doors, but must remain below window opening on inside of vehicle. A roll loop is strongly recommended either inside cab area or tight against outside of cab no wider than cab. Halo may be attached to inside cage. Halo may be attached to box floor with 6”x6” plates, if attached to frame no plates allowed, and weld directly to top of frame. Extended cabs use the 10” rule, no further than 10” from back of seat to back side of halo bar. Kickers from halo(2) are not to extend past the front rear leaf spring mount, or 6 inches past fuel tank, and attached to box floor only. 15. Distributor protectors are permitted. 1/2 inch thick max. may be bolted to intake or back of heads. Cannot be attached to any other part of motor, tranny, or vehicle. If at ANY time the protector comes in contact in any way with dash bar you will be DQ’ed. Firewall is not considered dash bar, just cannot be attached. 16. All body mounts may be removed or replaced with steel washers. No added steel of any kind anywhere on or in vehicle unless it is directly stated in the rules. Absolutely no stuffing or putting anything of any kind inside or outside of frame unless it came from the factory on that particular vehicle, not even a little. If you are found to be cheating in any way or are unable or unwilling to make your vehicle within the rules you will simply be told to LOAD-N-GO; ABSOLUTELY NO REFUNDS. All non-factory plow or camper brackets must be removed. NO pinning of frame and body. 17. All doors and trunks, hatches, tail gates may be full welded on exterior only, you may use filler or 3”wide x1/4 thick” steel to accomplish this. Absolutely no welding of any kind anywhere on truck except when stated. Box and cab may be connected in same manner, and or bolted. No interior seam welding. 18. You may patch rust with same thickness metal 1” past the rust. Do not cut out rust!! Plating bends on pre-rans is allowed with a 1/8” thick plate only 1” past the bend no wider than the frame and only on one side. No more than 20” of plates max per side but each plate can be no longer than 6”. There must be a 2” gap between plates and welds before adding another plate. Must clearly see a bend or you will be told to remove. No making your owns bends just so you can plate it!!!! Floor repairs must be sheet metal only! Re-stubs are to be butt welds only, no added steel at all. 19. Hood pins (6) up front, 1”dia. max only 2 may go to frame, other 4 must be located behind core support and bolted tin to tin. You may weld or bolt front 2 to frame outside of radiator area. Washer must remain free from body and separate from each other.6” diameter washer max. If you put pins through frame you may use a 3x3x1/4 plate on top and bottom of frame where pins go, but cannot be welded to frame you may use jam nuts. Hoods may have up to 24-1”long 3/8 bolts. 20. Cabs may be bolted down in 4 extra places with 3/4” bolts to the frame. Cab and box may be bolted together with 6 ¾” bolts using 4” washers. Box may be bolted down with 14 total ¾” bolts using 4” washers. NO pinning. 21. Front suspension may be welded or bolted solid. You are allowed nothing bigger than 2x2 or 2” dia, and only one per wheel area, running vertical, (up and down) not at any angles to make front suspension solid. Tie rods may be welded only. 22. Releafing or leaf conversions in rear of pickup only are permitted but must function properly. Must retain staggered leaf pattern no welding together, you may use 6 clamps per side total including the factory ones. 12 leaf per side max. No welding rear shocks or any movable part of rear suspension. Flat stacking with leaf material is permitted. Leaf perches may be welded to frame. MAX. Bumper height is 30 inches to bottom of bumper. We continue to add new and unusual food items for you the fair goer. Between our food court and food booths in the Family Fun Show Carnival, you will have one of the best food selections around. Food is what a lot of people come to the fair for. If you spend every day at the fair, you’ll have a hard time trying to sample all the different food items that are available. Stevens County Fair 2014 Open Class Exhibits ENTRY TIMES Open Class Exhibit Building Wednesday, August 6: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Individuals with more than 20 exhibits must come before 2 p.m. on Wednesday, and are encouraged to pre-register their exhibits online at www.scfair.net

OPEN CLASS EXHIBITS Open Class Exhibits Rules & Regulations 1. The Stevens County Fair reserves the final and absolute right to interpret the terms, rules, and regulations and arbitrarily settle and determine all matters, questions, and differences in regards thereto, or otherwise arising out of, connected with or incident to the Stevens County Fair. The Superintendents of their area shall be the final arbitrator of any disputes involving exhibitors and day to day activities. The Stevens County Executive Board backs the Superintendent 100 percent. 2. The Agricultural Society reserves the right to amend or add to these rules as in its judgment may deem advisable. 3. Entries for premiums may be made by residents of Stevens County and adjoining counties only. Limit 200 entries per exhibitor. 4. Exhibits must be grown, made or owned by the exhibitor. 5. One exhibit per person will be allowed in each lot and one exhibit cannot be entered to compete in more than one lot or 4-H. 6. All exhibits except livestock must not have been previously exhibited at the Stevens County Fair. 7. The Stevens County Agricultural Society wishes to promote a wholesome and educational event for the entire family. All exhibits and displays are subject to review by the Agricultural Society. Any items or material deemed as inappropriate for display must be removed by exhibitor upon request by fair officials. The following items are included in the above ban: Weapons (death stars, butterfly knives); Sexually explicit/pornographic material; and vulgar/profane materials. Exhibits and displays are meant to be enjoyed by all fairgoers. Please help us make the fair a pleasant experience for people of all ages. 8. Exhibits must be entered correctly, ticketed properly and ready to be judged when entered, in order to be judged and premiums awarded. 9. The Agricultural Society will take every precaution for the preservation of the articles and stock on exhibition but will not be responsible for any loss or damage that may occur in the delivery, exhibition or removal of exhibits.

10. If anyone has issues or disagreements with how things are run in a building or on the Stevens County Fairgrounds overall, the Stevens County Fairboard reserves the rights to ask said person(s) to leave the fairgrounds. 11. Any person or group that conducts a protest action must limit its activity to the location designated by the Stevens County Fair Board. The designated location is the southeast corner of the bunker, which is in the southern parking lot on fairground property. No entrances or exits can be obstructed or limited in any way. 12. No dogs are allowed on the fairgrounds except for service dogs, and in designated areas only. AWARDS 1. The awards in open class entries will be designated by ribbons, stickers or cards as follows: 1st Premium, blue; 2nd, red; 3rd, white. 2. Grand Champion ribbons will be awarded to exhibits of exceptional merit. There will be no monetary prize connected with this ribbon. 3. Premiums will not be awarded unless the judge deems the exhibit worthy. 4. Any interference by exhibitors to influence or dictate the decision of the judges shall be sufficient cause for excluding his or her entry from competition. RELEASE OF EXHIBITS 1. All exhibits, including livestock, must remain on exhibit until 8:30 p.m. Sunday, August 10. There will be no exceptions to this rule. Premiums will be forfeited if articles are removed before 8:30 p.m. Sunday. 2. Exhibits will be released and premium checks awarded from 8:30-9:30 p.m. at the Open Class Exhibit Building on Sunday, August 10, 2014. CLAIMS Persons having claims against the Stevens County Agricultural Society must present them in writing to the secretary within fifteen days after the last day of the fair. H & H Veterinary Service has been accepted as official veterinarians for the fair. Exhibition of Livestock and Poultry in Minnesota—Summary of State Rule General Requirements Livestock and poultry that exhibit symptoms of any infectious or communicable disease, including ringworm and warts, may not be exhibited. All animals must be examined by the official veterinarian on the day they are admitted to the exhibition and at least once daily during the exhibition. The Official Veterinarian will order the immediate removal to a quarantine facility or removal from the exhibition premises of any livestock with symptoms of infectious or communicable diseases. Animals placed in a quarantine facility must remain there until removed from the exhibition premises. They may not enter a show ring. This includes livestock with warts or ringworm. All testing must be conducted prior to the exhibition, and a record of the test results on a test chart or Intrastate Health Certificate must accompany the

tested animals. Livestock and poultry entered in a petting exhibit are not exempt from the exhibition rules if the animals are from more than one farm or there are other animals at the exhibit. POULTRY Poultry, except waterfowl and pigeons, must be individually identified with a leg or wing band and accompanied by a form approved by the board to show compliance with one of the following: negative test for pullorum-typhoid disease conducted within 90 days prior to the opening date of the exhibition; originate directly from parent stock tested and found negative for pullorum-typhoid disease within the last 12 months. In addition, turkeys must be negative for Salmonella typhimurium, Mycoplasma gallisepticum, and Mycoplasma synoviae. SWINE Swine must be individually identified and must: • Have had a negative official pseudorabies test conducted within 30 days prior to the opening date of the exhibition; or • Originate directly from a qualified pseudorabies-negative herd; or • Originate directly from a Stage IV or V county or area. All 50 states are currently pseudorabies Stage V, (Pseudorabies Free Status). SHEEP & GOATS Official Identification Required: All sheep and goats for show or exhibition, including wethers, must be officially identified. Official Scrapie identification includes Scrapie ear tags or tattoos that have been approved and registered with the Minnesota Board of Animal Health. Exhibitors should identify. HORSES All horses must be negative to an official test for Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) within 12 months prior to the opening date of the exhibition. A test is not required for suckling foals accompanying a negative dam. SLAUGHTER CLASSES All livestock and poultry entered in the class which are kept isolated in a separate building from all other livestock and poultry at the exhibition and which are slaughtered during or immediately following the exhibition do not need tests or individual identification. DOGS Dogs over 6 months of age must be accompanied by a current Certificate of Rabies Vaccination issued by a Licensed Veterinarian. Requirements for Livestock and Poultry Originating from States Other than Minnesota: Livestock and poultry originating from states other than Minnesota must meet the Minnesota Importation requirements in addition to the requirements outlined in this summary. • All imported animals must be accompanied by a certificate of veterinary inspection. • Ruminants originating from Michigan may not be imported into Minnesota for exhibition. Health certificates must list the Minnesota Exhibition as consignee, and will be accepted if examination and tests are conducted within 90 days prior to the exhibition except swine pseudorabies test must be made within 30 days prior to the exhibition. The differential pseudorabies tests are not approved for exhibition. Requirements for horses and dogs are the same as for those originating from Minnesota.

ENDURO SMALL CAR RULES All drivers must be 16 or older with a valid driver’s license and consent from a guardian if under the age of 18. No one will be allowed in the pits under the age of 14. All passengers must have the same safety equipment as the driver or you will not be allowed a passenger. 1. Any 4 or 6 cylinder car or minivan completely stock body, frame and suspension can participate in the small car Front/Rear wheel Drive Enduro Race. No bracing anywhere except inside the driver’s compartment with approved roll bars and door post. Dash must remain plus steering column and pedals must remain stock for the make and model of the vehicle. All insulation under the hood must be removed. 2. Motor, carburetor/fuel injection system for the make and model of the vehicle MUST be completely STOCK. NO modifications allowed. NO air induction devices allowed. Air cleaner must be in original position, stock and complete. 3.Stock transmission for the make and model of vehicle. 4. Battery MUST remain under the hood and mounted securely. PLEASE wrap with rubber inner tube so positive does not arch if touched by metal. 5. TIRES: Passenger tires only. Wheels and tires must be of like size and width. No low profile or 60 series tires. NO RACING WHEELS AND TIRES ALLOWED! 6. Stock unaltered rear end for the make and model of vehicle. 7. GAS TANK: Leave in stock location. 8. ROLL BARS: Four point roll bar (at least .095 x 1.623 steel tubing) mandatory with mounting plates on each end welded and or bolted to the floorpan. Minimum of four ½ inch bolts on each plate. Roll bar must be located directly behind the driver and reach as close to the roof and left side of the car as possible. 9. All doors must be welded or chained shut. Driver’s side doorplate is required. 1/4 x 12 in plate bolted or welded in the middle of the door from rear of front fender to front of rear fender. If driver’s side door comes open during race, you will be DISQUALIFIED. 10. HELMETS: Must have full-face helmets with eye protection. Seats and Seat Belts: May use stock seat and belts if you have 2 lap belts. Or may use a racing seat and five point harness if you would like as long as they are securely fastened to the floor. 11. All cars must remove windshield and have 3 braces over the windshield area covered with mesh. All other glass must be removed including headlights, tail lights, and outside mirror assembles. Absolutely no

broken glass allowed in the car. Window nets are mandatory! 12. Cars interior must be completely gutted except for dash and seat. 13. Bumpers must be chained or reinforced to frame to keep them from coming off during the race. Hood must be held down with 2 hood pins. NO CHAINS! 14. Mascots, decorating cars, advertising nicknames, cartoons, etc are encouraged. Mascot and decorations must be secured so they will not come off during the race. 15. No suggestive language, or symbols allowed on car. Any car in bad taste will mean disqualification. Please keep it clean and appropriate.!!! 16. Your car number should be painted on both sides of the car in contrasting colors at least 18 inches high and 5 inches wide. Should have a number plate on the roof 18 x 18 also. 17. NO 2 way radios. 18. IMPORTANT! Must have a board in the passenger side rear window for the lap counter to secure to! 19. You may also have a passenger in your car as long as they have the same safety equipment as the driver; Along with the plate over the door or door bars as well as helmet, seat and safety belts. ENDURO COMPETITION RULES 1. Any street stock passenger automobile may be used. NO pickups, 4x4’s, compacts, or imports allowed. A minimum wheel base of 102”. Exceptions to stock are listed below: a. All doors and trunk lids must be bolted, welded, or strapped shut. Leave a 6”x6” minimum inspection hole in the trunk so we can look inside. You will not be allowed to race without a hood or trunk lid. b. Only 1 battery allowed. Battery must be located under the hood and mounted securely. No tarp straps. No firewall cutouts permitted. c. Any DOT street tires and any O.E. M. or standard aftermarket rims may be used. 2. OEM gas tanks must be in stock position and held securely with 2 additional straps made from 1/8”x1 ½” wide strap iron (minimum) must be welded or bolted with 3/8 bolts and adequate washers. Only one gas tank allowed. You may replace your gas tank with approved racing cell with steel outside container, and place it under the trunk lid between the frame rails. Any gas leaks and you are disqualified. 3. No reinforcement of car frame, structure, or bumpers allowed except for those listed below: a. Front and rear bumpers must be welded or strapped to the frame so they won’t fall off if impacted. 1/8” sheeting allowed from bumper to fender. If your bumper falls off you will be disqualified and out of the race. Must be original type bumper. No chopped off or shortened bumpers permitted. b. Optional braces from frame to corners of front and rear bumpers. Braces not to be made of more than 1 5/8” O.D. pipe. One brace per corner. NO NERF BARS. c. Rear frame of car may be reinforced to protect gas tank or fuel cell, but it must stop 3” from the top of the arch in frame above rear axle and ahead of the rear bumper. Reinforcement must also stay between frame rails.

ENDURO LARGE CAR RULES 1. Enduro participants must be 16 years of age or older with a valid driver’s license. No one will be allowed in the pits under the age of 14. Legal consent of parent/guardian and notarized release waivers are absolutely required for all persons under the age of 18 who are going to be competing in the race. 2. Pre-registration of car and driver with payment is required before the deadline on entry form. Registration fees should be paid by cash, check, or money order. Any NSF checks will be charged $20 plus cost to recover. All drivers and pit people must pay and register at pit gate. Drivers will draw for line up position during registration. 3. There will be no duplication of car numbers. The first car entered with that number will get that number; any other car will have to change their number. Preference may be given to veteran cars. Large metal sign must be bolted to the roof displaying the number. Each individual number must be a minimum of 12” h x 9” w, facing each way-left and right from driver’s seat. 4. The Enduro Race is a non-stop race. The red flag will be brought out only in the event of serious safety situations or to water the track. Restarts after the red flag will be a standing restart. There will be no realigning of the field to current positions.

ENDURO SAFETY RULES These safety rules are to help keep you safe. You may add to these required rules to keep yourself safer. 1. Heavy window screen with 2”x2” maximum hole size is required on the front windshield opening. Minimum of four 3/8” metal bars to support the screen. Driver’s side window must have racing net with quick release. 2. FULL FACE DOT APPROVED HELMET MANDATORY with full-face shield. Removal of eye protection face shield at any time during the race results in a black flag. 3. 4 point minimum racing harness required. Must be held in place with 7/16” grade 5 bolts and adequate washers. Inspection committee must consider belts safe or you won’t race. 4. Seat and floor panels must be solid and secure. Racing seats may be used. (fiberglass seats must have adequate re-enforcing structure behind it) No passengers allowed in the race car. 5. Full 6 point roll cage made of 1 5/8” heavy gauge pipe, no square tubing, exhaust pipe or pipe fittings. Cage must remain completely within the passenger compartment. Both driver’s side and passenger’s side must have 3 bars in the horizontal position to reinforce door. (See illustration # 1) Rear hoop must have X brace. Front hoop must have horizontal pipe above and below the windshield. Top or roof area of age must have one brace across opening. Rear braces must extend from the top of the cage 3” ahead of the top of the arch in the frame above rear axle. All joints and mountings must be welded securely.

d. Optional hoop over radiator with 2 support braces, neither to exceed 1 5/8” O.D. pipe. Hoop must not exceed 2” in front of the radiator mount. Braces not to extend past front of A frames.. One brace made of 1 5/8” O.D. pipe maximum may be added between front frames. . e. Metal used to cover radiator or front of car must not exceed 1/8” with no bracing. Skid plate allowed, made of 1/8” sheeting maximum, from radiator saddle to front cross member. f. You will be allowed to repair damaged area of car, but repairs must not extend beyond damaged area and must not be considered excessive. Excessive sheeting of body will not be allowed. Call for official suggestions and approval. 4. No metal removed from car (except chrome trim and glass frames). Wheel wells and fender liners, etc. can be altered 2” to 3”. 5. No suspension alterations permitted. All suspension parts must be stock appearing and in stock position. No coil over shocks. 6. Absolutely no glass allowed, left in car or inside doors. Broken glass must be completely cleaned out of the car before it comes to the track. 7. All trim, light bezels, door handles, chrome, etc. must be removed completely. 8. All debris and loose materials must be removed from the car and trunk. Back seats must be replaced with tin flash shield between driver and rear of car. 9. No exhaust coming out of the hood. No holes allowed in hood. 10. No water bars or tanks. No lead weights, sandbags, or other weight can be added to the car. 11. Cars must have working brakes and brake light in rear window. Light must be 3” across. 12. No profanity on cars. (See illustrations)

5. RED FLAGS: You will stop on a red flag. No pitting on a red flag. No pit crew on track during a red flag. If your car is off the track and in the infield danger zone, you may NOT work on your car. PIT STOPS ON GREEN FLAG ONLY! NO PASSING ON RED FLAGS. ANY VIOLATIONS AND YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED! 6. Cars will be towed/pushed off during red flags as directed by flagman if they are stalled, stuck, or in a dangerous position. FLAGMAN’S CALL IS FINAL! Cars towed/pushed off may be allowed back on the track. 7. Cars will be removed by officials only, unless otherwise directed by the flagman. Any attempt to remove your own car and you will be disqualified. 8. Only one tow/parts vehicle per enduro car is allowed into pits during race. 9. Any fires on your car and you are done. 10. You will be disqualified for aggressive driving. 11. No alcoholic beverages allowed in pit area. 12. Race time will be extended only if an extended safety condition requires it. Drivers will be notified. MOTOR RESTRICTIONS Factory Engines **KEEP IT STOCK** Docked laps for NON-O.E.M. Parts!! 6. The roll cage must be welded to the FRAME of the car, not just the floor. If the car has no frame under the roll cage area, you must build the floor to hold the cage. 7. Transmission cooler, if used, must be in front of the radiator. Only one radiator in stock position, no electric fans. 8. A fire extinguisher is required in each pit area, optional in car. 9. Absolutely no alcoholic beverages in the pit area and clean your pit area at the end of the race or your winnings may be held back. 10. No wireless communication allowed during the race. 11. 2014 is the year to stay More fun for free at all week at the fair the fair in 2014 What better way to enjoy the fair than camping right where all the action is? Wake up each morning and see all the things that happen each morning. You might choose to sleep and maybe you will hear that in your dreams. With all the fun that happens late night at the fair maybe it’s time that you just hook onto that camper and bring it to the fairgrounds. If you like to rough it just dig out the tent and camp for free. As the fairboard works to improve the grounds, the camping area is just another one of the great things to enjoy. Each year we find more people that find how nice it is to bring that camper in and stay for the week. Most people that have camped in the past say it’s the only way to go! You enjoy the fair so much more with that chance to rest or just sit and visit with friends at your campsite then go back for more fair fun. With the addition of the new restroom a few years ago, showers were also added to that building for campers and 4-Hers to use. Rates are low from free if you wish to just pop that tent to a low $75 for the full week at the fair with full services. If you are a 4-H damily we even give you a break its just $65. You do not want to wait too long to book your spot as they fill fast. It is simple and easy to do just go online at www.scfair.net then go to forms and fill out the form online, print and mail it in. If online is not an option for you just call the fair office at 320-589-1062.

No matter what day you come out to the Stevens County Fair you will always enjoy what you find. Free Events are planned for every day of the fair. Only a few of the events repeat daily so you will want to try to enjoy some time out at the fair each day. This year we will host The Lumberjack Show, Alfy, Brodini, many magic shows and many more shows that are all Free events. Daily and evening music events will include all kinds of great music for every age. The Sherwin Linton Show, DC Hawk Band, The Loony Lutherans, Shalo Lee Band, Roosters and Tripwire just to name a few, all for free. Check out all the exhibits and commercial vendors that bring their stuff for you to see. The fair days are full of 4-H events every day and they work hard to exhibit their crafts and livestock. Daily demonstrations will also be going on in the Homemakers building so make sure you check them out when you are at the fair. We have two different stage areas along with the judging area that is also used for some stage shows which makes for a busy time at the fair. Thursday is Day Care Day at the Fair On Thursday, August 7, from 9 to 11 a.m., day care children are invited to attend Day Care Day at the Stevens County Fair. For Morris children it is a chance to ride the Morris Transit Bus to the Fairgrounds. Plans are for the children to learn about emergency response vehicles, look at farm machinery, visit the old schoolhouse, see farm animals, and experience a magic show. They will also get a tour of the FFA Kiddie Barn and the FFA students will be giving an agriculture presentation. A sweet treat will finish the tour. Please RSVP to scfair@yahoo.com by August 1

Some lucky person could be the recipient of $50 in Morris Chamber Cash if they can find the Stevens County Fair Medallion that has been hidden somewhere on the fairgrounds. A clue is given out each day online at our web site, Facebook and Twitter. This info will start with Wednesday, August 6. The clues will only be online for 2014. Some days there MAY be more than one clue that is given out. As things change the fair is also using more social media to get the info out to fairgoers. The medallion will be in reach and you do not have to dig 2013 medallion winner or climb to find it. Happy hunting to find Paula Kill the Medallion which is about the size of a 50 cent piece.

Chippewa National Forest Talking horse coming to town 2014 US Capitol Christmas Tree Christmas Ornament Contest: Open Class, Crafts Misc. Lot # 1315 The Chippewa National Forest is providing the 2014 US Capitol Christmas Tree to Washington DC this year. A tree will be selected on the Forest, and will eventually end of on the front lawn of the US Capitol Building. We will send 10,000 ornaments along the way to decorate the tree—these will be made by local school children and community groups. We are looking for local artists interested in creating a one-ofa-kind ornament representing the Capitol Christmas Tree from Minnesota. Ornaments should be 3-dimensional, use materials as listed for this Fair category (metal, wood, glass, textile, etc) and highlight one or more of the design elements in the 2014 logo. These include: • A spruce or balsam fir tree • Bald Eagle • Ojibwe floral beadwork design • Minnesota and/or Chippewa National themes, including lakes/ river, heritage, ecosystems. Artists can pick up their ornament at the end of the Fair, or they can choose to donate the ornament to the 2014 Capitol Christmas Tree project. The ornament can then be sent to the Chippewa National Forest by October 1st, and it will be shipped to DC and used to decorate the US Capitol Christmas Tree. Tree lighting ceremony has been tentatively set for Dec. 2.

Are you ready for this? A four foot high, talking horse named Harold will be appearing at the Stevens County Fair on August 7 and August 8. In actuality, it is Homeward Bound Theatre Company presenting one of Alfy’s “World of Robotic Puppets.” These fun-filled life size puppets will be roaming the grounds of the Stevens County Fair, charming everyone from 2 to a 102. Different puppet characters will be making their joyous appearance to unsuspecting visitors to the fair. Through the “magic” of radio control, these lifelike puppets will be visiting and sharing jokes and quips with unsuspecting fair goers. Alfy’s “World of Robotic Puppets” received praises across the United States with appearances in fairs from the Northern reaches of Minnesota to the southern boards of Arizona. They have also been featured at the Mall of America, St. Paul Saint’s Baseball, benefits, and numerous trade shows, and events for seniors and youth. Their version of an Irish leprechaun has been the hit of the various St. Patrick’s parades. The Stevens County Fair runs daily from August 6 through August 10.

Bluez Brotherz Tribute Band The Bluez Brotherz Tribute Band is an awesome blend of talent featuring Jake and Elwood Bluez and backed by seven of Minnesota's most talented, top notch musicians. They are dedicated to preserving the blues through the characters of Jake and Elwood Blues originally portrayed by Dan Aykroyd and the late John Belushi from Saturday Night Live and the 1980 motion picture "The Blues Brothers.” Where did it all begin? Well, I guess you could say my brother Jay (drummer extraordinaire) was "on a mission from God..." To rock Minnesota with the best rhythm and bluez around. Jay and I (Jacklyn/bass player) hand picked each talented musician to add to our 'can't be beat' rhythm section-including a three-piece horn section that will 'blow' your hair back, Rockin’ guitar and keyboards-Yeah! These guysand gals can play! And of course, there's Jake and Elwood-They will have you believing Aykroyd is young again and Belushi is still alive!! Following the trails of great Blues artists, 1060 West Addison Blues A Tribute to the Blues Brothers do their part to help keep the blues alive in the hearts and minds of America and at the Storck Bandshell at the Stevens County Fair on Friday (Aug. 8) beginning at 5:30 p.m. and again at 6:45 p.m.

Mini Farm On Saturday, August 9, at the Lee Community Center, the public will be able to see a display of four different farms/ranches that Tim and Jennifer Sanderson have managed or owned. The idea behind the displays are to help educate the public and to let people see what a farm/ranch consists of and to help and support the farm/trucking toy industry. “There are a group of us that make our own displays and travel around the area showing and educating the public about what we do as a hobby based on real life farming/trucking.” “As displayers, we take a lot of pride in our work. “ “It’s real life shrunk down to a 1/64th scale.” We have had people ask for a replica of their trucks or tractors – it takes time but we can do it. We enjoy a hobby that supports our local farming/trucking industries and hope that lots of fair goers will stop and see them on Saturday at the Lee Community Center.

Sherwin Linton to perform at Stevens County Fair Sherwin and Pam Linton will again make their presence known as they appear on Saturday afternoon for three performances. Sherwin has been at the Stevens County Fair a number of years. The great crowds that he brings to his shows is one of the reasons he is back in 2014 as the fairgoers love him. The shows are free and will be in the bandshell next to the food court on the grounds. Come on out on Saturday and enjoy one or more of their shows along with a lot of other free entertainment.

Welcome to Helmets For Kids! Kevin Boyles brings humor and Helmets For Kids is an organization created by Mike Heikes to provide kids with bicycle helmets to help prevent brain injuries. Mike Heikes is a brain injury survivor himself and five-time cross-country bicyclist. Since the program was started in 1999, Mike has fitted and given away over 10,000 bicycle helmets to kids all across the country–most of them in Minnesota and North Dakota. Mike also speaks in schools, churches and organizations to tell everyone his story and how they can prevent a serious brain injury like his. Mike will be attending Day Care Day at the Stevens County Fair on Thursday, August 7 from 9 to 11 a.m. Come and visit with Mike and have an opportunity to purchase his book, Finding Purpose an autobiography about one man’s journey from a severe brain injury to becoming a crosscountry bicyclist and bicycle helmet advocate.

K-9 Unit at the fair G r a h a m Holtberg and his K-9 partner, Rico will make a return appearance at the Stevens County Fair. K-9 Rico is a German Shepherd and was born in Slovokia, a country in Central Europe. Rico is six years old and began as a deputy with Stevens County in 2007. Rico was trained throughout the Twin Cities in the areas of apprehension, agility, obedience, tracking, handler protection, and narcotics detection. Rico lives with Deputy Graham Holtberg and his family and enjoys playing outside and chewing on his “Kong� when he is off-duty. Come to the fair and see the fantastic demonstration that Graham and Rico put on. They will be at the fairgrounds on Saturday beginning at 7 p.m. at the Harvey Mathison Show Arena.

Volunteering: There is something for everyone! 4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship and life skills. 4-H provides the opportunity for you to contribute to the development of your own self and other people. 4-H encourages the whole family to be involved in the organization so that you can grow and learn together. 4-H is a team effort involving volunteers and staff who work together designing, planning and implementing programs which help 4-Hers to achieve life skills. Volunteers are the key to the 4-H program! In Stevens County, we currently have over 50 active adult volunteers who contribute in a wide variety of ways from sharing information with clubs to coordinating clubs to volunteering a few hours at the county fair. Volunteers are able to participate in a unique experience, youth learning and growing! Do you have time or a skill to share with the program? There are many opportunities throughout the year. Rad Zoo at the Stevens County Fair

Connecting our roots in 4-H

Area animal lovers will have the chance to meet some scaly new friends at the Stevens County Fair as we have invited Owatonna’s RAD Zoo to come to our fair. The Reptile & Amphibian Discovery Zoo is one of the world’s largest reptile displays, showcasing more than 150 kinds of animals from around the world. RAD Zoo trainers travel throughout Minnesota more than 100 times a year to share about these animals, bringing several animals with them for kids and parents to learn about and touch. After talking about the various animals that they will bring, kids will have a chance to get a closer look, even touching the animals. The Zoo’s director says it’s important for kids to be able to learn about the reptiles and amphibians so they can understand and appreciate them better. By allowing kids to have a chance to have a personal experience with the reptiles, they’re more likely to appreciate them and work towards their conservation,”. This is the first time the RAD Zoo has visited the Stevens County Fair and we hope fairgoers will enjoy visiting this exhibit. The RAD Zoo will be set up in the Lee Community Center all five days of the fair.

This year during the Stevens County Fair in the 4-H Exhibit building we are trying something new by inviting all previous and current Stevens County 4-Her’s to come in and sign our guest book. The goal of the guest book is to show how many Stevens County 4-H alumni and present members we have. When signing the book you will sign your name, the club you participated in, and what years you were in 4-H. Also, we ask that you put your thumb print on the canvas that we will have to add to our 4-H Family Tree! We invite you to stop on in during the 2014 Stevens County Fair and look at all the general exhibits, but don’t forget to plant your root on our 4-H family tree!

You want me to show a what?! Each year, Stevens County 4-H hosts a Round Robin Showmanship competition on Saturday morning of the fair. And we want you to come and check it out at 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 9! Round Robin is a sampling of livestock showmanship from all of the species. Thirty 4-Hers are challenged each year to compete in this lively and exciting competition! The challenge is to show four different species of animals! One small animal (rabbit or poultry), one medium animal (sheep or swine), one type of cattle (dairy or beef) and either a goat or horse will be in the competition each year. Each exhibitor will show four different species that they may not have ever shown before. Prior to the competition, exhibitors learn how to show the specie and information about the species from 4-Hers who show these animals. Scoring is based on knowledge and showmanship skills; each age division champion receives a jacket. Showmanship is the core of 4-H livestock exhibition. Youth work year round with their animals on achieving the proper stance, showing their animals full potential, learning the proper way to exhibit their animal and learning all they can about their animal specie. All champion and reserve champion showmen from the eight species are invited to come and compete in this challenge. Looking for a taste of livestock exhibiting? Tripwire at Storck Bandshell on Saturday of the fair

This band is made up of four amazing guys with enough energy to fill any venue you could throw at them! The end of the night always comes too soon when you're witnessing the on stage spectacle that is "Tripwire." With four-part harmonies pulsing through four decades of rock and roll, over ten different instruments (harmonica, violin, trumpet, sax, and yes even a cowbell). Tripwire brings intensity, integrity, and creativity to the mid-west music scene. You'll be asking yourself "What could they possibly do next?!?" “It’s rock, country, a little bit of hip hop, even a polka here and there.” “It’s a fantastic variety, with our twist on it with a bunch of different instruments” says Mark Arneson a member of the band. That kind of variety lends itself to Tripwire’s live shows, which Arneson says are often marked by the band members playing off of each other’s energy. “The rest of us will catch on, and it’ll just add to our show,” “It keeps things interesting for us, because you never know what to expect.” This is one band that the Stevens County Fairboard do not want you to miss! 4-H is fun for families Today, 4-H is the largest youth organization in the United States. 4H has achieved this distinction by offering a wide variety of opportunities for families across the country. How is it done? 4-H uses a learn by doing approach that guides youth in designing and participating in their own programs and activities. Through this process, kids develop essential skills they will use throughout their lives such as leadership, problem solving, decision making and more! Where do you fit in? Currently in Stevens County today we have nine active clubs, over 185 members ranging from kindergarten to freshman in college and over 50 adult volunteers. 4-Hers are active in clubs, community projects, camps, adventures and more. There is somewhere for every family! There are more than 60 different project areas ranging from beef to pets to clothing to aerospace to gardening to electric to robotics to scrap booking and much, much more; there really is something for everyone. Green Fire Irish Dancers to return The Green Fire Irish Dancers were organized a decade ago after breaking away from another Irish dance group. Their first performance consisted of only five people. They currently have 16 members of all ages. Green Fire is the first Irish dance group to dance to more modern music and to incorporate their younger dancers in with the older ones. They also are known for having period costumes for old-time dances, like Victorian and what they call "oldfashioned" dresses. Another unique perk about this group is that they don't wear the cork-screw wigs. Not only will you see many different Irish dances you will also learn the history behind those dances. You will also have an opportunity to dance an Irish jig with the group. The Green Fire Irish Dancers perform regularly at the Landmark Center in St. Paul, for St. Patrick's Day, at St. Therese's Nursing Home, at Harriet Island for the Irish Fair, and for the Irish weekend at the Renaissance Fair. The Stevens County Fair is very excited to have the Green Fire Irish Dancers return to our fair. They will perform on Thursday, August 7, at 2 and 4 p.m. at Stage 1.

Get your buttons now...the right number wins a trip and MORE! Someone could be the lucky winner of a trip for two to San Antonio, Texas if you have the correct fair button number. Buttons are on sale with most of the 4-Hers, Gervais Jewelry, Unger’s Furniture, Meadow Land Market, and Willie’s Super Valu. Buttons are $6 each with no limit on the number you can buy. There is, however, a limited supply of buttons, so you will want to get one soon. The button is good for a free supper on Wednesday night, August 6, at the Lee Community Center starting at 5:30 p.m. Our entertainment for this year’s supper will be participants from the Kiwanis’ Talent Show. At 6:10 p.m. we will have the drawing to see what lucky person will take a trip to San Antonio, Texas. All buttons have a number listed on the face of them and the holder of the button number drawn will have 24 hours

to claim the trip. Last year’s fair trip winner was Savannah Aanerud of Donnelly. Each day of the fair, more numbers are drawn for prizes such as Morris Chamber Cash, cases of pop, gift certificates to different businesses, t-shirts, etc. Always have your button on as you never now when there may be surprise drawing at an event at the fair plus you will need your button to claim the prize. We will make an effort to have all numbers for the prizes drawn by noon on Saturday and posted at that time. You should have time to check and see if you have won anything by the close of the fair on Sunday. The winning numbers are posted on the fair’s website at www.scfair.net or in the glass case that is located on the outside of the Homemaker’s Building (yellow). Once again, the owner of the number drawn for the trip will only have 24 hours to claim it or we will post a new number for that prize and the first number will be void. The Roosters to appear at the Stevens County Fair Spectra Recording Artists, "The ROOSTERS" are an up an coming country band who's new Nationally released CD "Sorry 窶話out the mess" has earned them a New Music Weekly Award nomination for BEST NEW GROUP / DUO. The Roosters started crowing in 2004 performing in country music festivals, the club circuit and opening up for national acts like Alabama, Reba McEntire, Toby Keith and Sawyer Brown just to name a few. During that time they have developed a tight live sound and show you only get by playing together as a group. Based out of Fargo, ND, they have become regular favorites at the largest country music festivals in the nation. All American Lumberjack Show

Lumberjacks... They opened the land to farms and cities, help build America and became the legends of the forest. They bragged to be the best and the tales of their feats are as tall as a pine tree. The legend lives on in the All American Lumberjack Show, two teams, ten exciting lumberjack events, 10,000 gallons of water and lumberjack pride is on the line. Lumberjack competitions have been around for a long time and each competitive event was developed from a skill that a logger needed in the

woods. The show features the exciting traditional "old time skills" of Log Rolling, X-cut Sawing, Ax Throwing, Buck Sawing & Boom Racing. In addition, chain saw events of Obstacle Pole Racing, Spring Board Tree Topping, Stock Saw Racing and Hot Saw Racing will feature the skills of today's loggers. Between the shows, you’re invited to sit back and watch as lumberjacks with nothing but a chain saw, a plain old log and a lot of practice, carve just about anything imaginable including bears, eagles, turtles, fish, cactus, frogs, and mushrooms. Bring your wallet, the carvings are for sale. When the sawdust settles and the show is over, you're invited to meet the lumberjacks, get an autograph, take pictures and of course "brag a little". The Looney Lutherans on tour; promoting their new cookbook USE YOUR FOOD. A GUIDE TO HEALTHY LIVING INSIDE AND OUT, FROM OUR KITCHEN TO YOURS, EAT LIKE A LUTHERAN! Using music, comedy, and some help from the audience, these gals share some age-old wisdom for living a long and healthy life, the Lutheranway. (But you don’t have to be Lutheran to love ‘em) The Looney Lutherans are a team of professional actresses who have come together in a fun, interactive, family-friendly show. Each of these talented women has been performing for years as actresses, singers and improvisers in the Twin Cities and across the country. The Looney Lutherans were born in a basement in 2006 when the founding members were appearing in the cast of the hit musical “CHURCH BASEMENT LADIES.” As the Looney Lutherans they have appeared together in numerous shows in North and South Dakota, Illinois, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Iowa and throughout Minnesota. Performances include a variety of segments on healthy living the Lutheran way including discussion of the Lutheran “food wheel” (all roads lead to hotdish) and a performance of the Lutheran food rap (“Eat Like a Lutheran”).
