Fourth graders share their traditions The Hancock fourth graders were asked to share their favorite holiday tradition. The tradition did not have to be about Christmas. This is how Mrs. Rustad’s fourth grade class responded. Las Posadas in Mexico is a family party. We have 9 Advent candles and light one for each of the 9 days before Christmas. On December 24 at night in the backyard, we put up the pinata, the Christmas tree, and the altar of the Virgin Mary, the baby Jesus and the angel. We pray and sing songs and lull the baby Jesus with blanket and lullabies. At last we put the baby Jesus in the altar because He was born on Christmas Day. The next day we open gifts and prepare a special meal for dinner at night. by Annia Viridiana Montiel Perez One of my Christmas traditions is Christmas travel. My grandma and grandpa bring all of our cousins to a hotel. Every year we go to the Bjerketvedt side and eat a Christmas dinner and play with the cousins. Each Christmas we go sledding, build snowforts, and have snow fights. On Christmas we make Christmas cookies, turkey, chicken, beans, and eat candy. My family and I put up the lights and decorations before Christmas. Each year we go to church for a special Christmas service. That’s how my family’s traditions go!! by Titus Bjerketvedt My mom and I bake wreaths with little red hots and we also bake cookies with hugs in the middle. My family and I switch where Christmas is. This year Christmas is at my aunt and uncles house. My mom and I put up the tree. Davin and I put up ornaments on the tree like pictures of my grandmas and us kids. by Isabel Rose On Christmas Day I always wake up early. I always have to wait for my brother, Logan, to wake up. When everyone wakes up, we open our Santa presents. Then we go to my grandmas house. I play with my cousins and open presents. That’s what I do on Christmas with my family. by Brayden Kisgen I like to eat lots of turkey and cranberries. Last we eat homemade ice cream. I like our Rinkenberger gift exchange because I have my cousin and my dad has my cousin Lane. My dad started to drink eggnog and started a new tradition and it tastes like Bubble Gum. My favorite Christmas tradition is sledding because I go the least fastest because I don’t have to walk up the hill. I like when the priest comes with the nativity set. For my dads side of the family, we normally have two because we have all the Rinkenberger for the first one and the other is for my Grandma’s side. Last, but not least, we go to mom’s side of the family and we like to open our gifts from my Grandma and Grandpa’s presents and my aunts and uncle gifts. These are my family traditions. by Ely Rinkenberger My family on my dads side decorates EVERYTHING! The tree, house, stockings, lights and set out cookies and milk for Santa. Our activities are playing cards, watching movies and other etc. Foods are my favorite part of Christmas. My favorite food for Christmas is Christmas cookies. Presents are my second favorite part of Christmas. The most favorite present is every present. We sometimes travel too. Have a Merry Christmas to you all. by Blake Lenz

Mrs. Rustad’s fourth grade class includes in front (L-R) - Issac Nelson, Brayden Kisgen, Cordelia Copa, Krista Duncan, Aidan Hacker, Rylee Mattson, Mallory Joos, and Titus Bjerketvedt. In back - Andrew Pieske, Austin Goldenstein, Bridget Anderson, Autumn Hubbard, Isabel Rose, Annia Montiel Perez, Ely Rinkenberger, Gage Schmidgall, Blake Lenz

My family has fun Christmas traditions. Like eating food like mashed potatoes and ham. After we eat, we open presents and we decide what movies we should watch. After we are done, we play in the snow. The next day we go to school and learn and make Christmas crafts and when we leave we go home and play with our new things. The next day we play and open Santa’s presents. Merry Christmas. by Austin Goldenstein On Christmas Eve I like to make chocolate chip cookies. I go to my cousin’s house every Christmas. My family likes to watch movies. When we put up the Christmas tree we all decorate it. I hope you enjoy my Christms traditions! by Bridget Anderson Well, first we put up the Christmas decorations. We put up the stockings first. Then we put up the Christmas tree, and then we put up the roof lights. We go to church and do a church service and we pack boxes for people in need so they get Christmas gifts. Me and my sisters go to a 4-H meeting and do a gift exchange and play games. Then we have pizza. Then the last thing we do is my Grandma and Grandpa Luthi. They take us to a hotel. We go swimming, play games, and run the halls. I hope you enjoy your Christmas tradition! by Rylie Mattson On Christmas Day we wake up early to open presents. On Christmas Eve we go to my Grandpa and Grandma Hubbard. We make pies, cookies, ham and cake. When it gets close to midnight we open presents. When we get home, we open one present and they are P.J’s. On Christmas Day we go to my Grandpa and Grandma Roony. When we get there, we make cookies, open presents, and see my cousins. This is my Christmas traditions. by Autumn Hubbard First we do the tree. Then we go to our Grandma’s house.
