Morris Area High School Highlights Message from the High School Principal, Craig Peterson Welcome Back! I am personally very excited to start the new school year. I’m anticipating a great year at MAHS. I feel that we at MAHS have good programs, good facilities and good students. We work very hard for our success. We as a high school need to keep moving forward to-wards the vision of maintaining one of the best schools in West Central Minnesota and in the state of Minnesota. We will be progressive in our educational goals with the focus on student achievement and on becoming a better educational institution. We cannot rely on our past accom-plishments, but move forward by creating opportunities for all stakeholders involved in our high school. We as students, community members and educators will need to push ourselves, towards higher goals of achievement in education. The bar has been set and we need to jump over the bar! NEW TEACHERS AND STAFF There will be new faces in the hallways and classroom. Tallack Dosdall will be one of our new Math teachers. Tallack graduated from MAHS and returns to his hometown school. Tallack previously worked in the Hayfield school district. We welcome Tallack back to MAHS with open arms. Joey Fragodt will be another one of our new Math teachers in the high school. Joey comes to MAHS after working in the Chokio-Alberta school district. We are very excited to welcome Joey to our Morris family. ACADEMICS The state of Minnesota has changed the GRAD testing, state and federal testing requirements. To satisfy the state and federal reporting re-quirements, all students in grades 3-8 will be taking Reading and Math MCA assessments in April. Students in grade10 will be taking the Reading assessment and students in grade 11 will be taking the Math assessment. In addition, students in grades 5, 8 and10 will be taking the Science assessment test. All of these assessments are given online and will be taken in April, 2015. Students graduating from a Minnesota high school will also need to take the EXPLORE test in grade 8 and the PLAN test in grade 10 to graduate. We as a high school have planned both of these assessments on Monday, November 10. Students in grade 11, regardless if they have taken the ACT test in the past, will also be required to take the ACT test on Tuesday, April 28. All of these assessments are given to our students at no cost. I will be sending home information with your son/daughter in September explaining the new state testing requirements.
