A MESSAGE FROM RICK LAHN, MORRIS AREA SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS
Estimados Padres: Estimados Padres:
Dear Community Residents, Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Rick Lahn and I will be joining the great staff at Morris Area Schools this coming year. Exceptional school districts are not created by accident. Great things happen when schools work in partnership with the local community and its residents. Please know that the Morris Area Schools have a reputation for excellence. By working Rick Lahn together we can help achieve our vision for becoming the best school district in western Minnesota! In the coming weeks and months I invite you to visit our schools and attend the superb fine arts and co-curricular activities that are held here. If there is anything I can do to assist you, please don’t hesitate to ask. I look forward to meeting each of you soon.
Warm Regards, Rick Lahn Superintendent of Schools

FACILITY USE & VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
In the event that school needs to be canceled or started late, all available information is collected as early as possible (traditionally by approximately 5:30 am), so that a decision may be made. In most cases, radio and television stations are notified of the decision as early as possible—typically around 6:00 am.
USE OF SCHOOL FACILITIES It is the intention of the School Board to make buildings of the school district available for use by organizations and groups in our community. School facilities will be made available according to the established School District policy. For more information and to make reservations to use school facilities, call the Community Education office at 589-4394. Groups may be charged when usage requires the service of personnel at times when they are not normally on duty and rental fees will be charged according to School Board Policy.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Volunteers play a valuable role in our district. We encourage everyone-young and old– to consider these exciting volunteer opportunities. Volunteer for an hour a day, an hour a week, or an hour a year. No task is too small. In return, we hope you will be rewarded with the satisfaction of helping others, meeting new friends, increasing your understanding of what is going on at school, developing new skills, pursuing your interests and hobbies, and passing a bit of yourself to a young person. For more information contact the Elementary office at 589-1250 or the High School office at 589-4400.
LUNCH INFORMATION
BUS SAFETY REMINDER
The cafeteria is a place where students can meet before and after school to visit and relax. We like to call this the commons area. Our lunch line has two main menu lines with a fruit/veggie bar, soup and sandwich line, and the ala carte line. Students will have the option of choosing to have the main menu, soup/sandwich, or ala carte line and pay with lunch account funds. The sack lunch program is also available with students asking during breakfast or lunch. Parents may also call it in. The prices for lunch are $2.10 for grades K-6 and $2.15 for students in grades 7-12. The price for lunch is $3.50 for adults. The price for reduced meals is free. The price for breakfast is $1.25 for grades K12. The price for breakfast is $1.95 for adults. Reduced priced breakfast is free. Milk prices are $43 for full year and $21.50 for half year. Also, keep in mind that lactose reduced milk is available upon written request to all students. . Snack break is $55 per year and 27.50 for half year. Parents can pay once a month, quarterly, or may pay for the entire year in advance with cash, check, credit or debit card. Funds unused at the end of the school year will be credited to the next school year. If a family moves from the district or the last child in the family graduates, refunds for the credited amount will be given. Applications for free and reduced lunches are mailed to each home at the beginning of the school year. If you don’t receive one you may pick one up at the District Office or Elementary Principal’s Office. If your family did not qualify for free or reduced lunches at the beginning of the year, but your financial status changes part way through the year, you may reapply at any time. Please help support our school lunch and breakfast program by applying for free and reduced meals. Even if you don’t think you will qualify, just applying can help the budget and your application is totally confidential. Thank you for your support. We are looking forward to another good year.
ATTENTION MOTORISTS: Never drive by a school bus with red flashing lights and an extended stop arm whether meeting or following a school bus. The flashing yellow lights tell you the bus is preparing to stop. When the red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended you must stop 20 feet from the bus in any direction. These signals show that children are getting on or off the school bus. Motorists must not move their vehicles until the driver shuts off the red lights and the stop arm. These laws exist to protect children getting on and off the bus and to protect you from a tragedy. Unfortunately every school year we have multiple school bus stop arm violations in Morris. Violation of these laws can result in a citation and fines. School bus drivers must report passing vehicles to the police department. Thank you for helping keep our children safe. 3
