That time again
H
ow’s your month been? We’ve had a crazy time here at Fast Bikes, riding more models than Boothy’s had hot women, and clocking sufficient miles to put us on a climate change hit-list (don’t tell them where we live!). It’s been a right laugh. Some stuff you won’t get to see for a few issues, but hopefully you’ll enjoy the good times we’ve got to show you within these very pages, travelling here, there and everywhere in our bid to deliver you the best sportsbike mag on the market. It’s a depressing thought, but autumn is nearly upon us, as the occasional grey skies and downpours of the wet stuff go to validate. The question is, have you made the most of the year? What else would you have chosen to do, and what’s stopping you from doing it? There aren’t many days where we’re not riding bikes, having adventures and generally messing around, whether we’re near or far from home. But Boothy’s gone the extra miles this issue, having taken the keys of my S 1000 RR and given it a road test like no other, pinned flat out on the Autobahns. He clocked just over 1,000 miles in a day on his return stint from boozing in Bavaria, just to make sure he didn’t miss out on Corrie – even though it left him walking funny for the next week. There might have been a comfier bike for that kind of trip, and a cheaper one, too. We decided to take a look at the used market this month and were blown away by just how many great used options you can pick up for around £4,000. Old bikes, newer bikes, iconic bikes and fast bikes; the options were endless, so when we set ourselves the challenge of (hypothetically) buying three used machines, it’s no surprise that we settled for three very different, but credible purchases. I’m still quite sure my RVF400 was the best buy, but you’ll have to skim a few pages to read the other two’s cases. Talking of investments, we’ve also been putting the question of manual versus electronic suspension to the test. High-tech pogos are becoming more common than herpes on top-spec sportsbikes, but is the investment worth the hype? There was only one way to find out! It’s great when we do a technical test like that, and we’re always up for suggestions, so if you’ve got any dilemmas you want us to get to the bottom of, fire them over and we’ll do our best. In the meantime, enjoy the mag, enjoy the last of the good weather, and make sure to keep us in the loop with where you go and what you get up to.
