NPCC censures Kiren Rijiju’s ‘double speak’ on Naga issue

Dimapur, June 20 (mexn): Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Saturday criticized the “double speak” of Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State (MoS) for Home on the Naga political issue especially with regard to ceasefire abrogation with NSCN (K). Media Cell, NPCC in a press statement said it is too late in the day for Rijiju to deny having said that “the NSCN (K) has nothing to do with the Naga issue.” “Nagas are not fools to easily accept his denial since the

statement is on the record of Lok Sabha proceedings,” it stated. The censure from the Congress comes in relation with the reported statement made by Rijiju recently in the Lok Sabha that- “NSCN (K) has walked out from dialogue process with the government of India. NSCN (K) with its Myanmar based leadership is mainly interested in extortion and has nothing to do with the Naga issue.” It also pointed out that the ceasefire abrogation with NSCN (K) has

exposed the fault lines within the BJP government as the blame game has started between them over the mishandling of Naga political issue and the subsequent renewed violence. Blaming the leadership of the BJP for their inept handling of the Naga political issue that led to abrogation of ceasefire with the NSCN (K), the Congress said “no amount of justification or denial from the BJP will cover up their miserable failure before the people.”

Dimapur, June 20 (mexn): Making an intervention to the ongoing spat between State BJP and Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), Nagaland Chief Minister, TR Zeliang on Saturday appealed both the parties to desist from issuing provocative statements against each other through media. He said such statements were creating confusion and apprehension in the mind of people on the current position of the “all party government” which also includes the Independent members. “While it is common knowledge that the BJP and Congress are political rivals at the Centre, it must be understood that the present “all party government” has been formed keeping in mind the peculiar situation the Nagas are going through at the moment, and the need to work collectively towards an early solution to the Naga political problem,” Zeliang said in a press statement issued by the media cell, CMO. The Chief Minister appreciated the wisdom of all the legislators, especially the BJP and Congress, for their magnanimity in giving each other space to be

‘follow what is right Rev Chujangneken: Man and not who is right’ of faith; father to thousands Vikheho Swu

Vibi Yhokha Kohima | June 20

With a united vision for the Nagas under an ‘opposition less government,’ Vikheho Swu, Minister for Roads and Bridges says that Nagas need to follow “What is Right” and not “Who is Right.” Starting from his high school and college days, which was spent entirely on student activities, Swu believes that he was born for activism. He went on to become the President of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) in 1993-95, after which he was actively engaged in the Naga Peoples’ Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR). Joining politics for the former Student leader was for the “the sake of my people,” he said in a exclusive interview to the Morung Express. Hailing from Pughoboto, Swu informs that in terms of development, Pughoboto has been deprived of many facilities. The constituency remains very close to the capital but lacks immensely in terms of development, especially roads. According to the Minister, it has been only two years since his constituency acquired direct road connectivity to Zunheboto. Previously, people were compelled to ply through Wokha and Mokokchung to reach Zunheboto. “The policy in Nagaland is not so holistic that you develop even an opposition constituency. We have not come to that level yet,” lamented Swu.

A vision for self reliance and sustainability

“In two and a half years I don’t think I will achieve much, given the time constraint and fund constraint but the little thing that I can do is change the system,” said Swu, who views that the working systems in the government

need reconstruction. Optimistic about the physical improvement of quality works and change in the working system, the R&B Minister hopes to deliver better working systems within the next two and a half years of his term. “My vision for Naga people is that we have to be self-reliable. And all of us have to work towards that. In order to be self reliable, Nagas have to go back to the base which is currently lacking in the people today,” said Swu. Citing the example of the consumption of pork and poultry in Nagaland which is mostly imported from other states, Swu stated there is not enough poultry to suffice the need of Kohima town, but Nagas are not willing to rear cattle, pigs or poultry, although the field of entrepreneurship remains vast. Claiming that there are many areas which can tap entrepreneurship without any technical support from outside, Swu said that Nagas need to explore what is within and what has market instead of bringing new products from outside. “Educated people should go back to the grassroots” affirmed Swu. An advocate for self-reliance and sustainability, Swu has initiated a new program as part of his Thuwu ni (it means-to progress) Pughoboto mission with a vision to make Pughoboto a meat producing centre. The program which is called “3 for All” is a piggery project initiated in 2014 in collaboration with LADP. Under the project 280 piglets in Pughoboto has been distributed to 78 families. A small scale and decentralized project, 3 piglets are given to one beneficiary who in turn will contribute 3 piglets to the next group when the pig litters. “In Nagaland, in any situation that we come across, there is a tendency to look more at ‘Who is right?’ rather than ‘What is right,’ viewed Swu. He felt there is a need for Nagas to understand one another despite differences and progress as a people. “We ignore what is right. Collectively Nagas should look for what is right for the Naga people,” said Swu. Only then he added can sectoral or tribal feelings be sidelined. On working in an Opposition less government; Swu asserted that if the situation can be taken advantage of, it is a plus point for the Naga people. “Because no matter how much we want to execute things in Nagaland one big factor is the Naga political issue and unless we solve this, many of our dreams will just continue to be dreams,” noted Swu. This is the final part of the two-story series

Youngest pastor to serve among the Ao’s; oldest Reverend among Nagas Limasenla Jamir Mokokchung| June 20

A man of faith and ‘a father to thousands,’ Rev P Chujangneken is the oldest living Reverend among the Nagas. Oldest person in Chungtia village and conferred the title “Tamangtir Tebu” (Father of faith) by Chungtia Baptist Church, unassuming Rev Chujang, with the scores of titles bestowed on him by churches and union, has achieved more than what he think he actually has. Going 97, the nonagenarian can still vividly recollect his childhood days and the long years he walked for God’s mission without missing a date or a heartbeat. At age 25 in 1944, Rev Chujang became the youngest to serve as a Pastor among the Ao Nagas. He retired as the oldest Reverend Pastor after serving 55 years in God’s mission. The Reverend recalls how at a very young age, his father and his siblings died, leaving him and his mother in loneliness and poverty. Despite the day-to-day adversity, he joined the village school at age 12. “I sat in class A for five long years without knowing if I failed or passed because my teachers never told him so.” Nevertheless, he continued studies in Impur. After finishing class 6 in 1943, returned to his native village, Chungtia, and started working as the village Pastor. The reverend later studied Bible from Jorhat. In his 55 years of service, Rev Chujang was Pastor in Chungtia Baptist Church for 45 years, 10 years in Kinunger and Sabangya Baptist Church. He retired in May 2001.

“It’s a blessing to be alive and to be referred to as a father of not only one village but also the other neighbouring village” he said while interacting with this correspondent. Apart from his own children, grand children and great grand-children, the Reverend said he is indeed blessed and lucky to see the children of his village grow and prosper. “A father figure to thousands, I praise God that he chose me to lead the people and I am more thankful that He granted me a healthy and a long life to actually enjoy the fruits of my labour,” he added. Besides his oratorical talent, Rev Chujang is also renowned for his singing talent and composing music. And that was how his wife of 72 years, Mokoksangla, fell in love. “It was his talent of singing and the charm by which he carried himself that swayed my heart away,” Mokoksangla, now 97, same age as her husband, said with a coy smile. Rev Chujang has composed more than 400 songs and he has also published a songbook titled “Tsungrem Meim Tuluba” (God’s Love is the Greatest). The nonagenarian couple has nine children. Yes, there

were also hard times and happiness. “Because I had to take care of all the kids, since my husband was always out in his mission works. But we were always happy. We were always bonded by love and because of the work that he did, we were blessed by God in return,” Mokoksangla reminisced. Rev Chujang is a living legend and an inspiration to many. “To have a person like him amongst us is a blessing. We pray that God will grant him and his wife more years so that they celebrate their 75 years of married life together in 2018,” said Taka Tzüdir, Pastor, Chungtia Baptist Church. And despite age catching up on him, the thirst to go beyond boundaries for God’s mission is strong as ever. “If I was strong and healthy enough, I would travel to China, Japan and Nepal and do mission works. Nagas should do more mission works. They should reach out to the people in these countries and send thousands of missionaries” Rev Chujang said- wistfully, subtly a reminder on the ten thousand missionaries Nagas had pledged to God and the world.

Villagers returning to ambush hit Manipur villages iMPhaL, June 20 (Pti): People who had fled from the villages located close to the site of June 4 ambush on Armymen in Manipur's Chandel district have started to return home. Chandel deputy commissioner Robert Khetrimayum said many of the villagers have returned to their homes in Paraolon, Moltuh, Kottal Khuntak and Challong. Militant outfit NSCN (K) had ambushed an Army patrol near Paraolon killing 18 soldiers on June 4. The scared villagers had fled the hamlets and went to their relatives' places mainly in Pallel, a big village having a police station and housing an Assam Rifles brigade headquarters, the DC said. Besides Pallel, which is about 85km from

the ambush site, some of the villagers had also gone to Chandel town, the district headquarter. The district administration had arranged for transport facilities from Pallel besides providing the villagers with some relief materials, said Khetrimayum, who had visited Paraolon a couple of days ago. A section of the villagers have also put up in their second home in other places, mainly in and around Pallel, district officials said. The villagers were also worried about their domestic animals — dogs, cats, pigs, cows, etc — whom they had left behind while fleeing. Members of an NGO working for animal rights had gone to the villages and took care of some of the animals, the officials said.

David M Thangliana, Secretary of the MPCC's Media department, in a statement alleged that the BJP did not want the vision of the freedom fighters to make India a garden where different flowers bloom but wanted only a particular flower to bloom in the country. The decision to observe International Yoga Day was a conspiracy to suppress religions other than Hinduism, the statement added. Meanwhile, Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitute Committee (MKHC), a conglomerate of leaders of 14 major churches, has appealed to the Christians not to observe the International Yoga Day.

The Morung Express 4 businEss BRICS bank to complement, not Farmer sells climate-smart cash crop – sunshine replace global institutions: Putin Dimapur

Sunday

21 June 2015

St PeterSburg, June 20 (IAnS): Russian President Vladimir Putin says that the BRICS Bank set up by five countries with a capital of $100 billion will not challenge the existing multilateral institutions. Putin, who was interacting with a dozen visiting wire service reporters, including from IANS, said the intention behind the bank and the reserve currency pool was not to replace the existing global financial structure but to complement it. He said that although an institution like the World Trade Organisation had "come to a deadend", all the five countries which were setting up the New Development Bank and $100 billion pool had a good relationship with the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. "They have shown interest in helping to develop Russia and countries," he said. The five countries form-

ing BRICS are Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The bank will be based in Shanghai and will be headed by K.V. Kamath, the non-executive chairman of ICICI Bank. Kamath has also been the chairman of Indian IT major, Infosys. When the New Development Bank or BRICS bank was announced, it was deemed to be an alternative to US-dominated World Bank and Fund. The idea to set up the Bank was to encourage larger financial and development cooperation among the five countries. During his interaction, Putin spoke on a wide range of subjects including the Ukraine crisis, which he said needed a political solution rather than "politics of confrontation". He said the Ukraine president needed support from the international community so that he is able to keep at bay the opposition by radi-

cals within the country to the Minsk agreement. The agreement between Russia and Ukraine provides for peaceful solution to the problem of three separatist provinces, with restoration of their rights. Russia is accused by Western countries of fomenting rebellion in the region. Asked about the heavy weaponry flowing into the separatist areas, Putin said such weapons can be bought by anyone as can be seen from global hotspots. "How did the IS or Al Nusra in Iraq get heavy weaponry?" he asks adding that if the demand exists, people will supply it. Putin said that the Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 may have been shot down over Ukraine conflict area by a Buk missile last year. He said he had seen reports by his technical analyst which showed that a missile coming from the Ukraine held area had hit the tail of the aircraft.

The US and the European Union have accused Russia of supplying the missile systems to separatist who apparently shot down the aircraft. When asked if there was a rise in nuclear temperature in the world, Putin said he did not think so because the conflict in Ukraine and other areas were localised events and not of "strategic importance". When told that Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper had taken a strong stand against Russia on Ukraine, saying the country should not be allowed to return to the G8 countries, Putin said that if the United States were to say that Russia should be allowed in, the Canadian prime minister "would change his mind".He welcomed US efforts to normalise relations with Cuba, saying that it was a wise thing to do. "It will not aggravate Russia's relationship with either the US or Cuba," he said.

The three big ticket projects — Smart Cities Mission, Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and the Housing for All, now named as Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), are worth Rs four lakh crore. The event will see Modi addressing Mayors and Chairpersons of selected 500 corporations and municipalities to outline his vision for emerging urban India, including challenges to be overcome, and a twoday brainstorming session involving the stakeholders and experts. “It marks a red-letter day in the history of urban

development in the country with the simultaneous launch of AMRUT, PMAY and Smart Cities Mission,” Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu told PTI. This reflects the integrated and convergence based approach of the government towards inclusive urban development. While AMRUT seeks to ensure basic infrastructure, PMAY enables the urban poor to own decent and affordable houses, he said. The Prime Minister will also release operational guidelines for the three urban missions besides unveiling logos and tag lines, according to a senior Urban Development Ministry official. “The two components — AMRUT and PMAY — enable the present cities emerge as smart cities in due course. Under Smart Cities Mission, quality of life will be enhanced in 100 identified cities and towns

amsung had the world wondering what it meant by 'Next is Now' during the launch of the Galaxy S6 series. After the launch, Samsung had touted that it had come up with a camera unit that it was putting into the S6 series that would be second to none. Sounds familiar? Something that every phone company says nowadays with every launch? Well, Samsung was not kidding at all. Did we take it at face value? No, We took it for a ride across mountains, waterfalls, valleys and rugged roads as Samsung chose to let us explore the camera on a trip to Peiling in Sikkim. The Camera Unit The technology behind the camera is cutting edge. The combo of a premium wide-angle 16MP shooter and a front wideangle 5MP camera makes it a must-have device if the user is a photography or selfie lover. The rear camera comes with a BSI CMOS sensor, a 1.9 aperture and an image stabilisation system that makes it way better than the S5 camera. Interestingly, the camera is constantly in stand-by mode, which means it can be launched under a second by doubleclicking the home button. The South Korean handset-maker has also upped the tech behind its front 5MP shooter. The

camera has 43 percent larger pixels than the S5 along with real-time HDR and multi-frame low light modes. The video camera supports 4K video and the user interface seems to have been simplified with fewer menus and pre-installed apps. The Pro mode also offers a range of manual controls including ISO, exposure compensation and white balance in a simple yet hassle-free manner. Control over shutter speed is available through third party apps.

tunity to sell excess energy could encourage them to pump only the water they need, said IWMI. IWMI estimates that around 11 million farmers across India are currently connected to the electricity grid could install solar-powered water pumps and sell the extra energy produced. across the ISO range. Industry Ranking and Verdict The Galaxy S6 Edge performs well across all video modes. Detail, exposure and white balance are good. On the downside, "rolling shutter" effect is noticeable and under artificial light colour casts can occur although down to a near minimum. The interesting part here for consumers is that photos and videos can be readily edited on the phone without even being transferred to a computer and released online. According to DxOMark's tests, the Galaxy S6 Edge performed well and with a score of 86 points, is the new number one in the DxOMark smartphone rankings, relegating its stable-mate Galaxy Note 4 and the iPhone 6 Plus to the number two and three spots respectively. The Galaxy S6 Edge captures good detail in all light conditions, colour and white balance are reliable and the AF works swiftly. Some noise is visible in low light and when using the flash you can end up with a colour cast under tungsten light, but those issues are shared with many other smartphones, the industry analyser has said. DxOMark is the trusted industry standard for camera and lens image quality measurements and ratings.

More oppose observing Yoga Day on Sunday Dimapur, June 20 (mexn): More opposition has come from different quarters against the State Government’s directive to observe International Day of Yoga (IDY) on June 21, Sunday. The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) in a press statement from its president K Therie, termed the State government’s order to observe IYD on Sunday in “honour of Hindutva propagation as shocking and an insult for the people of Nagaland.” It also referred to the Governor’s statement that “recognizing Yoga through IYD is a victory of the Hindu saint Pantanjali.” The Congress also alleged that ever since the BJP- a political wing of the

RSS came to power, it has been intentionally engaging official functions on Christian worshipping days with a long drawn target to make people forget the importance of Christina worshipping days. “While the BJP might try to fool the people by presenting yoga in a secular manner, the people cannot forget that BJP ignores the very word 'Secular' from the Preamble to the Constitution of India. It is purely a covert attempt to desecrate Christianity by imposing a Hindu ideology on a holy day for Christians,” the Congress maintained. It also argued that the State government’s directive to schools to observe IYD on Sunday, which is also Father ’s Day, is anoth-

er attempt to wrench away school going children from observing Father’s Day. In this regard, the Congress said DAN government has lost all respect from its own people and the nation and therefore cannot stand for its own people’s sentiments and rights. Apex student bodyNaga Students’ Federation (NSF) condemned the directives of Department of School Education (DoSE) to schools in Nagaland to observe Yoga Day on Sunday. It has therefore directed that no schools in Naga areas would be allowed to impart Yoga class on Sunday. “DoSE should immediately revoke the order in the larger interest of the Nagas,” the federation through its general sec-

Reports on assault during raid exaggerated: Dimapur police Dimapur, June 20 (mexn): Apropos the reports on physical assault of innocent public by the police during a raid on June 18 night here, Dimapur police today stated that the reports are “exaggerated, presenting only one side of the story.” A clarification note from Addl. Dy. Commissioner of Police/ PRO, Dimapur police informed that on June 18 night, concerned citizens informed of a truck parked within a premise located at Model village, 5th Mile and reportedly being loaded with liquor. Accordingly, police personnel on Mobile Patrol were dispatched to verify the matter. Two units rushed to the location and found that the truck was being loaded with cases of liquor by a group of men. On seeing the police, few of them tried to escape in the cover of darkness, but were chased and caught by the cordon team, the note said. Among those detained was Samuel Sumi, a gov-

ernment teacher residing near the premise. The release said that Samuel tried to escape again while being detained but was caught. “It was only when the party was about to move out from the location with seized consignments and detained persons he announced that the premise belonged to his uncle and protested being taken to the police station.” The release further said that allegations of assault upon a child and a woman are “fabricated” and police personnel being under the influence of liquor is “completely false”. Stating that the entire exercise was done within half an hour, the PRO said the allegation of people being detained in the spot for hours is “unfounded.” He revealed that seven persons were taken to the police station for further enquiry after being found near the truck (NL05G-0388), from where forty five cases of IMFL was found. Five

of them were released provisionally, including Samuel Sumi, while two of them have been officially arrested. Investigation is still under progress and more arrests will be made, it was added. While acknowledging that in the melee, physical injury was caused upon Samuel Sumi, the Dimapur police regretted the excesses. “Circumstances and resultant actions undertaken by the police personnel is being enquired into and responsibilities will be fixed,” according to the note. Meanwhile, appreciating the role of the media in bringing out issues and causes to the public domain, Dimapur police appealed that “for such matters having ramifications upon the image of a department, confirmation and clarifications may be sought before it is published so that equal opportunity is provided to highlight the other side of the story and the reports thus published are balanced.”

retary Boveio Poukai Duo and secretary education Imtiyapang demanded. It also asserted that since Nagaland is a Christian majority state, classes should not be allowed on Sunday and that “India being a secular state, practicing of Yoga should be an individual choice but not imposed by the state.” The students’ federation also informed it has taken serious note on reports of some schools trying to impose Rs 500 as fine to students failing to attend the Yoga class on Sunday. It has cautioned of action against these schools. “The students are asked to inform the NSF office if any school takes action on the student failing to attend the Yoga class,” the federation stated.

Meanwhile, the Council of Nagalim Churches (CNC) has fervently appealed DoSE to “repent and withdraw its directive to schools and colleges on attending Yoga day on Sunday.” CNC general secretary Rev Seksim Kasar, in an appeal, said it was not against Yoga exercise and its aged old practice. However, it pointed out that the intention and attitude of the BJP government towards the values and sanctity of other faith such as declaring June 21, a Sunday, which also is Fathers’ Day as Yoga Day is “anti-religion.” “Imposition of Yoga on others with ulterior motive is despicable,” the council stated while appealing all Christians to go to Church and celebrate Fathers’ Day service not Yoga exercise.

The Central Nagaland Students’ Association (CNSA) also affirmed opposition to observe International Yoga Day within its federating units, namely AKM, LSU, and SKK and condemned the department of education directing all schools to observe the event. “The CNSA while respecting each individual wisdom on the observation of the so called International Yoga Day in Nagaland, we humbly appeal to all right thinking citizens of Nagaland not to acknowledge or participate in any manner,” stated a press release issued by CNSA president Charles Lotha. The release asserted that the three student bodies of Ao, Lotha, Sumi will comply with the decision of CNSA.

Celebrating Father’s Day without Father C. Robin Lotha

I

t is learnt that the World Population is more than 7 billion and all the people are scattered around the globe which consists nearly 200 Independent Nations. The world population includes all Aged Persons, Men, Women, Youth and Children. Every year, the Christian communities are celebrating ‘Fathers’ Day’ in the 3rd Week of June all over the world. But here comes some questions linger in my mind and which reminds me constantly. Out of so many people in this world, how many people are living without Fathers? How many people have lost their Fathers? How many people are without Father’s love, guidance and control? How many people are celebrating ‘Fathers’ Day’ without their beloved Fathers? I am sure that those who have lost their beloved Fathers are missing something in life and celebrating Fathers’ Day without Father is incomplete. In addition, celebrating Fathers’ Day without God, Prayer and Honor is meaningless and valueless. Therefore, in honor of all our beloved fathers who had left this beautiful world for eternity, let us join together with melancholy and pray for the departed souls. We all know that Father is the Head, Teacher, Shadow and Light of the family. Father is also the Backbone, Leader, Pillar and Torch bearer of the family. Besides Mother, in many occasion Father is the real breadwinner in the family. We found that Father has a vital role to play so as to run and maintain the family. The responsibilities of the fa-

ther are such as build House to stay, Working hard for money, Clothing to wear, Food to sustain lives, Training and Education for children, Treatment in time of sickness, Protection from all dangers, Counseling to cope crisis in lives, Spiritual guidance for moral life, etc, etc. As a matter of fact, Father is the Centre, Guardian, Head, Hero, Planner, Point Person and a Guiding Star in the family. Without Father in the family is just like a Boat without Rudder, Chickens without Mother, Army without Commander, Students without Teacher and Building without Roof. Father has linkage with the Genealogy, History of the offspring and Builder of the nations. We know that all the fathers have a Herculean Task towards their families. Hence, while toiling and trying to provide the needs of the mothers and children, unfortunately and sometime fathers are facing many hardships and losing their lives far away from homes! Father is one of the best gifts to the family from God and He is working for the family through Father. From my childhood and till I attained adulthood my Father was my teacher, my counselor, my guide, my judge, my foundation and my role model. Sometime, I had observed and recalled that my father was like a Preacher, Philosopher, Storyteller and a Visionary. Whenever, I was free I came to my Father for his advice, guidance and encouragement. I used to sit beside my father, shared and exchanged our thoughts, ideas and opinions. As human nature we have many

he concept of celebrating Father's Day is very new in India. The idea of celebrating Fathers Day has been imported from western countries mainly US, perhaps less than a decade ago. However, it is remarkable to note that the idea of observing a day in honor of fathers has been appreciated by Indians to a large extent. Today, millions of people in India observe Father's Day on the third Sunday of June by expressing gratitude for their father or men who are like father. Father's Day celebration in India takes place in the same way as in UK or US though in a limited way. Awareness about Fathers Day festival is much greater in metropolitan cities and bigger towns due to the greater exposure of people to the western cultures in such places. But thanks to the rigorous advertising campaign launched by card companies and gift sellers the idea of celebrating Father's Day is fast catching on with people in smaller towns and cities of India.

Just as in UK and US people in India too, celebrate Father's Day by expressing gratitude and love for Papa. Children gift cards, flowers and other gifts of love to their dad to show their affection. Dining in restaurants or going out for picnic or movie is another common way of celebrating Fathers Day in India. Several schools and cultural societies in India organize cultural programs on Father's Day. The idea behind such programmes is to inspire children to pay due respect to their dad and take care of them. Fathers are also encouraged to spend quality time w i t h their children and instill in them noble values and manners. "HAPPY FATHER'S DAY"

problems and issues within the family circle. In order to, resolved those things sometime I argued and had hard time with my father so as to finalized the same. However, sometimes I asked my father to pray for me especially when I was in trouble and in difficult situations. I had experienced that my father was a real driving force throughout my life’s journey. My father was very much interested in Church activities and Social works. Hence, my father had also contributed many good things for the progress and development of our village and church. I had observed and found that my father was very ambitious, hard working, loyal, sincere and faithful to his duties and responsibilities. He was very much interested in Christian songs and Bible readings. He was religious- a Man of Faith and a Man of Prayer. I still remember, while we were still young our father led us for family prayer fellowship. He trained us for manual works and house chores, provided us everything for our studies, taught us Christian songs and Bible lessons. Besides this, he had also taught us about Christian activities, faith, principles and Social customs, norms and values. On 12th April, 2015 evening when I was busy browsing internet, that fateful night around 9:00 PM when I received news that “Your Father had passed away,” I just could not believed the news. I paused my breathing for a moment. It was heartbroken and very painful news in my life! I thought that people were telling lie to me and I felt that it was just like a nightmare. But at last I had

to accept the reality that my beloved Father was no more! Thereafter, without a second doze, whole night I prepared “A short Life History” for my beloved Late Father which I read out during his funeral service. Even though my father was sick, I thought that my father might live a little longer and live with us. But our lives and destinies are only in the hands of God the creator. It is not our will and power but only according to God’s plan. We cannot do anything and it is beyond our control. The Almighty God has purpose for all His creations including mankind. God has plan in our lives and we have to accept it. We can neither omit nor extend even a single day to live in this magnificent world. We cannot complain and against God the creator. Till now I feel that my beloved father is still alive but its only illusion. Even though I climb up on the mountain and call up Father, Father at the top of my voice but my father will never respond me. Now my father is no more in this world and he had left for God’s Heavenly Home. Now the life, works and teachings of my Late Father will remain only in memories and history. For losing my father, now I felt that I have lost my living Library, Commentary and Guide for my physical, social and spiritual life. Right now I am away from my village. I know that in the coming days when I go to my village, I will never meet my beloved father. I know that I will not hear my father’s voice and he will never walking and roaming around our home. It is a great lost to regain, big space or vacuum to be filled and missing

a lot of my beloved father. Now it is very difficult to replace my father by someone else and impossible to bring back to life! The year 2015 is the first time experience in my life and I am celebrating ‘Fathers’ Day’ without my beloved Father. I am sure that there are thousands and millions of men, women, youth and children are also celebrating ‘Fathers’ Day’ like me! How sad we are and it is a very painful moment. Today I am looking everywhere but my father is not here with me to celebrate the ‘Fathers’ Day’! I wish I could buy a gift and something special for my father but now he had left this world for eternity. To show my love and honor, today I want to give a beautiful present to my father but he is not with me now. Every day I am missing my beloved father and remembering him deeply in my silent tears. How sad I am today and for not celebrating ‘Fathers’ Day’ with my beloved father from this year! Every single day and every moment I remember my beloved father. I wish if my father is still a live, I would honor and try to meet all his needs in every possible ways but he is not with me now. All the happiness, wonderful times and good days that we had together with our beloved father while he was still alive will never come back again! I thank God for sending our beloved father to this world and for all the blessings and support that we had received while he was alive. At last, I pray to the Eternal God that though we are physically departed from this world, may the unceasing love and presence of God be with us till we

Fathers: The Role Model Niekhoyi Rhakho Stephen

As I pen down, I’ve got a dozen of thoughts about our loving fathers who played and is playing a role model for us to be a better human beings. Beginning from the threshold of our life, our fathers had been our support and super hero who comforted us in the midst of adversities. It’s undeniably extremely distressing to come across some of our fathers have departed as death has become an inevitable phenomenon. Nevertheless, I’m definite those children are still promising their prayers for the departed souls. This is the day and opportunity for us to applause our dear fathers who had undergone sleepless nights for several years making sure we’re still breathing fine. As observed from my own sibling, fathers give their sincerest efforts applying precautionary

measures for the child as much mother does. In some situation, sounds funny but we encounter our aggressive fathers and try to counter-attack not knowing they’re instructing and conveying their immense love. A father may have turneddown speaking to his child for a couple of days/ months due to some misinterpretation, ask your father for forgiveness on this auspicious day because ‘to err is human and to forgive divine’ and tell him ‘I Love You Dad.’ Our fathers care without expecting; toil laboriously to give good reason for our living. Our life is like an echo, ‘as you sow so shall you reap.’ Let’s become the reason for our father’s happiness. Many show love and concern to their fathers by- Packing surprising gifts, Words of thankfulness, Hanging out and praying for them. In whatsoever way we wish to proclaim our gratitude, let’s do it from the core of our hearts because what we do will be reflected. Our great dad lays our spiritual foundation and wants us to live a life of hope and modesty. Dear Fathers, as you reach another milestone, thank you for your unceasing love and tender care. May you become the ray of hope and impart to your children and generationslove, joy, peace, humility, perseverance, acceptance, piety, virtue and much more. May the good Lord protect you from darkness of sin and grant you His eternal Glory. Happy Father’s Day!!!

Some reflections on Father’s Day Honor your father and your mother: The fifth commandment (Exodus 20:12) has to do with our father and mother, whom we are called to honor for taking care of us when we were not able to do so ourselves, and for the sacrifices they made for us, and for loving us. To "honor" one's parents, involves (1) prizing them highly; (2) caring, showing affection for them; and (3) showing respect or revering them. This is the only commandment that comes to us with a promise-- “so that your days may be long.” It is also the only commandment without a “shall not.” Colossians 3:20 “Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. "Obey" implies a readiness to hear and carry out orders; a child's ongoing responsibility is to listen to and carry out the instructions of his or her parents. Paul says two things about this obedience. (1) It is to be complete: "in everything." Paul, of course, sets this in a Christian context. He is dealing with the Christian home. (2) The obedience of children to their parents "pleases the Lord." Obedience of children is an obligation grounded in the very nature of the relationship between parents and children. It is a thing that is right in itself. It is therefore especially pleasing to God when believing children are careful to fulfill this duty. Building fathers-children relationship: When Jim Bakker went to prison for financial mismanagement of his PTL empire, he thought he'd lost everything. His ministry was in shambles. But prison taught him many lessons about where his priorities should be. One day, Jim's son, Jamie, spent the whole day with him at the prison. Afterwards, Jamie hugged Jim and announced, "All I ever wanted is to have you all to myself for one whole

day. Today was like a dream come true for me!" Jamie's words broke Jim's heart. He had never realized that while he was building his empire, he had been neglecting his family. That moment helped to decide Jim Bakker's new priorities. Since that time, Jim and Jamie have built a close father-son relationship. -- Tommy Barnett with Lela Gilbert, DREAM AGAIN

ality. They are afraid of the responsibilities and the troubles of everyday life. Many fathers run from their responsibilities to their families. Our society is experiencing an epidemic of absent fathers. Some fathers are abandoning their families. Some are refusing to pay child support. The courts have to track them down to make them pay for their children's bread. These are Selie Visa the obvious cases. Not all men abandon their families, but many run Running From Reality: away in other ways. They run to their jobs In the Book of 1 Kings, chapter 19, we and hide there. Verbally teaching one thing to your children but never doing it yourself is hypocrisy. Being inconsistent does great damages to the spiritual life of children. Fathers and children in church: Father's Day is a little different in the church than in the world. In the church all men are fathers. Each time a young boy or girl is baptized in the church the whole church promises to nurture them in the Christian faith. Any Christian man who takes such a vow takes the responsibility of raising and nurturing those children in the faith. A good example of this is Paul and Timothy. Paul was not Timothy's biological father. Timothy's biological father was an absentee father-- at least he is absent from the Bible. Paul filled this void as he became a father figure to Timothy. He took Timothy under his wing and nurtured him in the Christian faith. He even called Timothy his "son." And Timothy grew to be a dedicated servant of God in part because of the care of his father in the faith. If we want our children to grow in faith we must be people of faith. We have to live the faith, to study the word of God, to model the love of God. Then those things will fall in the soil of our children's hearts and minds and grow. To train our children to follow Christ we first have to be following Christ. To see faith growing in their lives it must first be growing in ours. To see them devoting their lives to Christ, we must first devote our lives to Christ. To see the fruits of the Spirit growing in the lives of our children they must first be growing in our lives.

meet again… Dear friends, by God’s grace your fathers are still alive with you today. Hence, never take this ‘Fathers’ Day’ for granted. You have only One Father in this world, you do not have many fathers so try to be there with your father today. Try to be with him physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Tell him and hug your father today that he is the most loving father in this world and the best father among the thousand fathers. Give thanks and honor to your beloved father for all the blessings, care and support that you have received throughout your life. Friends, please take this golden opportunity and celebrate this ‘Fathers’ Day’ with your father less you may regret one day. Only God knows, in the coming years you may not see and celebrate the ‘Fathers’ Day’ with your beloved father. In the Bible also we found that Our Life is compared with Dream, Flower, Grass, Shadow and Vapor. We do not know about tomorrow because life has no guarantee. So, on this special day- ‘Fathers’ Day’ try to show your love and honor to your father. If possible try to share your happiness, take special time for fellowship and at least wish him ‘Happy Fathers’ Day’. If you are away from home, do pray for your beloved father’s life. Give thanks to God that your father is still alive today and praise God for giving you good father to guide you and praying for your future. I beseech and pray that may the merciful God grant good health and long lives to all the Fathers. “ Happy Fathers’ Day To All The Beloved Fathers ”

The sad consequences of Biblical authority surrendered Rev. Mark H. Creech

undamentalists and evangelicals (both of whom have been traditionally committed to an infallible or inerrant Scripture) have long been noted for their propagation and defense of an infallible Bible. But more recently, among those who call themselves evangelicals, there has been a marked departure from the viewpoint held by them for so marriagelong. More and more organizations and individuals historically committed to an infallible Scripture have been embracing and propagating the view that the Bible has errors in it…This change of position with respect to the infallibility of the Bible is widespread and has occurred in evangelical denominations, Christian colleges, theological seminaries, publishing houses, and learned societies." [1] This assessment of evangelicalism was stated by the late Dr. Harold Lindsell in his well-known book, The Battle for the Bible, published in 1976. Lindsell was quick to qualify his statements that those who believed in an errant Bible were not necessarily "outside of the company of the redeemed," [2] but he was very concerned about what would

happen if the doctrine of biblical inerrancy were largely scrapped by the church. Nearly 40 years later, we see one demonstration, I believe, in Tony Campolo's recent announcement that he had changed his position on homosexuality and urged we "welcome all our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters into the Church." [3] Campolo is certainly not alone is his announcement. Two years ago, Alan Chambers, former president of Exodus International, apologized and disbanded the very organization meant to help gays and lesbians leave the lifestyle. With similar sentiments as Campolo's, Chambers said he wanted to love his neighbor as himself. Evangelical mega-pastor Rob Bell also announced his support for marriage equality in 2013 and provided a scathing critique of American evangelicalism for its resistance to become gay-affirming. One need only watch the news, more specifically Christian publications, websites, and blogs to see professing Christian celebrities, Christian denominations, Christian colleges, theological seminaries, etc. inching closer to fully embracing what the Bible unquestionably condemns. No one, and I mean no one, can justify the practice of samesex marriage or the practice of ho-

n November 2012, 530 runners were poised on the starting line for the Heaton Harriers 10km race through Newcastle, England. As is customary a cyclist familiar with the route—or “rabbit” as it is quaintly known—was employed to ride just ahead of the frontrunners to lead them. The rabbit, wearing a conspicuously fluorescent yellow top, pedalled ahead moments before the starting pistol sounded. At the bang the racers charged off enthusiastically. However, shortly after the rabbit and a small pack of frontrunners crested a blind rise and turned left, a local cyclist who perchance was donned in a fluorescent yellow cycling top pedalled briefly onto the route and then turned right. The obliging runners dutifully followed him on a meandering, seemingly random route through Newcastle until the biker serendipitously crossed the actual route again, having taken what was in effect a substantial shortcut. The man who thought he was winning the race, one Ian Hudspith, suddenly found himself being bested by a straggling group of bemused slowcoaches. The organizers soon realized what had happened and promptly called everyone back to restart the race. Les Venmore, one of the organizers, confessed it “wouldn’t have looked particularly good” if the race had been won by someone who had never won a race before because of an unintentional shortcut. It appears most of the runners took the incident in good cheer and there was much jocularity about the mistake. And laughter is the appropriate response to something as inconsequential as a foot race. But imagine at the end of your life you appeared before the judgment seat of Christ and instead of hearing the words, “Well done my good and faithful servant,” you heard the words “Well tried my misguided and silly servant, you ran aimlessly for a good eighty years, pouring your time and energy into some pretty insubstantial pursuits.” Paul warns against this disconcerting eventuality in a letter he addressed to the somewhat misguided church in Corinth. 1 Cor 9:24-27, o you not know that

mosexuality without doing violence to Scripture. The question is how did we get here? How did so many in the church get so far from the truth. How is it that so many within the ranks of the redeemed have become so confused? At the risk of being perceived as a religious bigot and a pharisaical prude, I suggest we have moved into an era of apostasy because numerous mainline denominations compromised the authority of Scripture a few decades back. After I left the pastorate to lead the Christian Action League of North Carolina, my home church had a "meet and greet" session with the new preacher they were considering for a call. During his opening statement to the church, he said that he felt our denomination had gotten onto the wrong track and was in danger of what he called bibliolatry, a term that says you can place the Bible on a pedestal higher than Jesus himself. I recognized right away his statement was a theological red flag and it represented a misleading creed that could harm the faith of the unwary. When I asked him to explain his statement, a heated debate ensued between us about the infallibility of the Bible. To the surprise of the con-

The Lore of Running Clint Archer The Cripplegate in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we can imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified. There are three obstacles to finishing your race well that can be avoided by taking this passage to heart. INCONSEQUENCE: The pitfall of inconsequence is the threat of living a Christian life that leaves little to no impact in God’s kingdom. “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it.” We all know Christians who seem to have as their life’s ambition to do the bare minimum for Christ, and finish their race without breaking a sweat. Paul says we should run like we want to win. Make your life count. Two London missionaries attempted to take the gospel to the New Hebrides Islands in 1839 but they were unceremoniously killed and eaten by cannibals only minutes after going ashore. Then in 1858 John G. Paton and his wife set sail to the islands, but not without some well-meaning opposition. On one occasion a respected elder warned, “You will be eaten by cannibals!” To which Paton responded with wry candidness, Mr. Dickson, you are advanced in years now, and your own prospect is soon to be laid in the grave, there to be eaten by worms; I confess to you, that if I can but

gregation he admitted that he did not subscribe to the traditional view of the Christian church on Scripture. I argued his view was an erroneous approach and that Jesus so identified himself with the Holy Scriptures that our Lord maintained that to weaken the authority of one only serves to weaken the authority of the other. To truly accept Christ's teachings, I contended, also requires we maintain the highest view of the Bible as a document without error in word or truth. In lieu of that debate, he withdrew his candidacy for pastor. Fortunately that church is in the hands of faithful leadership today and continuing to grow year after year. Lindsell, however, warned our abandonment of biblical inerrancy would ultimately lead to just the opposite results for the church. He cautioned it would end in sad days of demise and decline. He wrote: "It is my contention that once biblical infallibility is surrendered it can lead to the most undesirable of consequences. It will end up as apostasy at last. It is my opinion that it is next to impossible to stop the process of theological deterioration once inerrancy is abandoned. I have said that it is a theological watershed just as the Continental Divide is the watershed for the United

States and Canada. The water that flows on one side of the divide ends up in the Atlantic Ocean. The water that flows on the other side of the divide ends up in the Pacific Ocean. But once the water starts down one side or the other, it continues until it reaches its oceanic destination. Errancy and inerrancy constitute the two principles, and which one a person chooses determines where he will end up." [4] Lindsell also mentioned that the late Francis Schaeffer once told conferees at L'Abri that "The generation of those who first give up biblical inerrancy may have a warm evangelical background and real personal relationships with Jesus Christ so that they can 'live theologically' on the basis of their limited-inerrancy viewpoint. But what happens when the next generation tries to build on that foundation?" [5] Well, we're now seeing what happens. But I suggest we have yet to see all the negative ways our compromise of Scripture's authority and acceptance of homosexuality will certainly gut the gospel and significantly curtail its spread. With the acceptance of sexual immorality, the endorsement of same-sex relationships, gone in many respects shall be a bona-fide call to repent of sin and be born-again. Severely in-

live and die serving and honoring the Lord Jesus, it will make no difference to me whether I am eaten by Cannibals or by worms.” Food for thought, right? IMPERMANENCE: Another hurdle that impedes our progress in effectiveness for Christ is to live a life that affects this life, but not the next. “Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air.” Sincere but misguided Christians sometimes devote their lives to meeting the temporal physical needs of people while neglecting their eternal spiritual needs. I’m all for mercy ministry—who better to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and visit the imprisoned than Christ’s ambassadors on earth (Matt 25:40Open in Logos Bible Software (if available))? But if we aren’t doing these ministries in his name, we fall short of our mission. We build a ministry with straw and hay instead of lasting materials (1 Cor 3:12-15Open in Logos Bible Software (if available)). Another sacrificial missionary C. T. Studd said it with pith: Only one life it will soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last.” INCONGRUENCE: A third impediment to effectiveness we need to avoid is undoing the good ministry we’ve done by undermining its credibility by an incongruent witness. This is achieved by the sinister cancer of hypocrisy. “But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.” If you undermine your ministry by your hypocrisy, you waste your life. Puritan Thomas Watson averred, “The hypocrite fools man in life, but in death fools only himself. …he feigns humility, but it is that he may rise in the world. … He carries his Bible under his arm, but not in his heart. … He can be as his company is and act both the dove and the vulture.”

s it possible to be filled with faith and doubt at the same time? Yes! You can have faith that God wants you to do something and still be scared to death. Courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is going ahead and doing what you're called to do in spite of your fear. You have to begin with the faith you already have: it may be just a little, but you start there. A beautiful example of this is the story of the man who brought his sick son to Jesus in Mark 9. Jesus looked at the man and said, "I can heal your son. If you will believe, I will heal him." The father then makes a classic statement: "Lord, I do believe. Help me overcome my unbelief." Have you ever felt like that? "Lord, I have some faith. But I also have some doubts." This man was filled with faith and doubt, yet despite his honest doubts, he went ahead and asked Jesus for a miracle. teph Curry and the Golden State Warriors captured their first NBA title since 1975 last night in a 105-97 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Curry and Andre Iguodala, the Finals' MVP who called the Warriors a "team of believers" in post-game interviews, teamed up for 50 points, while the Cavs' LeBron James added 32. Even after the greatest achievement in basketball, Curry knows there's a much bigger prize in life, long after the buzzer sounds. In 2013, Curry talked to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for the March issue of its bimonthly magazine, writing that his faith identifies him more than his jersey. "Congratulations to Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors on an incredible season and an amazing playoff run—and to LeBron James and the Cavaliers for a stellar season as well," said FCA President and CEO Les Steckel. "We are so elated for Steph and his commitment to his team, his fans, his family and his Savior. Steph gave God all the glory last night. He is a wonderful role model to young athletes, who we hope will learn that when God is in charge of their life, they're always undefeated because God never loses." Curry told FCA about the moment he began living for Jesus— and never looked back: "I remember it like it was yesterday, the day I gave my life to Christ. I was in fourth grade, and I recall hearing and understanding the gospel of Jesus Christ and walking down

the aisle to give my life to Him. My parents continued to pour into my faith from that point on, making sure I understood the commitment I'd just made." And of his journey to the NBA, he said, "I knew the Lord was preparing me for a bigger stage to represent and be a witness for Him on the basketball court. I remembered my mom telling me from day one at Davidson (College) that God puts His people in different areas of life so that they can reach more people for Him. I tried to use that time for His glory. "God's given me talents to play basketball for a living, but I still have to work hard to improve every day. I know that in the grand scheme of things, this is just a game that can be taken from me at any moment. But I love that basketball gives me the opportunities to do good things for people and to point them towards the Man who died for our sins on the cross. I know I have a place in heaven waiting for me because of Him, and that's something no earthly prize or trophy could ever top. "There's more to me than just this jersey I wear, and that's Christ living inside of me." Steckel added that FCA's mission is to reach coaches and athletes for Christ—one heart at a time. "Whether youth, junior school, high school, college or professional, athletes have a platform like few others to share their faith," Steckel added. "We are thrilled that Steph is using the platform he has been given not for his own glory but for the glory of God."

jured, if not irreparably so, will be God's primary vehicle for evangelism – God fearing mothers and fathers passing down the faith to their children. Gone also will be any real parallel of marriage and Christ's relationship to his bride, the church. Moreover, religious liberty is likely to be so impaired the freedom to practice true religion will be gone, because we rejected and abused it in the day of opportunity. Is there hope? Maybe there is. However, one thing is for certain. There can never be a surge of new spiritual power, a new advance for the kingdom of God, and a powerful manifestation of the might of God before the unredeemed masses, unless God's own people once again give the Word of God the honor it is due. ost dads wouldn't want to readily confess their failures as a parent. It's simply not in our nature to admit that we've made mistakes that have negatively impacted our children. Author Gregory W. Slayton says the good news, however, is that dads don't have to continue to pay for those mistakes. In his book, Be a Better Dad Today: 10 Tools Every Father Needs, Slayton wants to remind men—especially with Father's Day approaching—that God continually gives us grace to move forward and to strive to be the Godly dad that your children need. "I think we all struggle. I know that I've been a failure at times too," Slayton says. "The good thing about it is that you can make a mistake, ask for forgiveness, get up and keep going. You really can be a better dad. You may say, 'I'm terrible at this.' But, you cannot give up. The only failure that occurs is when you give up." You may have said, or constantly say things to you children that you regret. You may have been inconsistent in disciplining your children. Perhaps you resorted to bribing your child to get a desired behavior. Or, maybe you allowed your "busy" schedule to intrude upon the quality time you should have been spending with children. It doesn't matter what your indiscretion, mistakes can be fixed. But it's up to you to seek God, to allow Him to touch your heart, and to guide you as to how to repair the brokenness with your kids. After all, Slayton says, being a dad is the most important job a man will ever have. "Admitting that you have failed in your role as a father, or realizing you didn't have the skills to be a good father, is a good place to begin," Slayton writes. "Don't lose hope. You can still be a good father in the future. ... It takes time and practice." Slayton outlines 10 tools with which every father should be equipped: 1. Put your family first. Have fun with your wife and your children. It will bless them. 2. All-in marriage. Unconditionally loving your wife can be one of the greatest gifts you can give your children. 3. True moral compass and true humility. Set a high moral standard for you and your family and those standards will transfer to your children. 4. Heartfelt love. Commitment, fidelity, grace and tenderness. What more do you need? 5. Empowering servant leadership: Put your own needs second to that of your family. 6. Relationship tools that work. Have a willingness to listen and to relate deeply to your family. 7. Heaven's help. In order to be your best as an earthly father, frequently consult your heavenly Father. 8. Other good dads: Get the support of good friends that are role models. They did. 9. Optimistic, never-surrender attitude: No matter how tough it gets, don't quit on your family or they will quit on you. 10. Dynamic, whole-person support: Give your family members emotional, physical, mental and spiritual support when they need it. Slayton says fathers can be good with some of these tools, and then there are those that they really need to work on to improve. "It's different for different families," he says. "It's all about applying God's wisdom to your particular family. Really search your heart and pray to God to show you which ones you need help with. He will help you if you are truly seeking Him." Slayton, his wife and children are a military family and are proud supporters of our troops. In an effort to help equip military families for success, they have implemented a Buy One Give One program for the book, where for every copy of Marina Slayton's Be the Best Mom You Can Be and Be a Better Dad Today that is purchased between now and July 31, the Slaytons will donate a book to a military family through their HOME program Help our Military—Every Family). The hope is to give these families resources to help them grow and strengthen during or after deployment so they can go on to live healthy lives together.

Over 200 mn people to mark International Yoga Day

New Delhi, JuNe 20 (iANS): India's ancient discipline of yoga will be a uniting force across the world on Sunday, cutting across religion, borders and differences, as over 200 million people will participate in events to mark the inaugural International Yoga Day, with a record 37,000 people striking up yoga poses in the national capital alone. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, an ardent proponent of yoga, will himself be present at the mega early morning function at Rajpath. While the main function will be at Rajpath, which has been placed under unprecedented security cover for the event that will see diplomats too joining in, the International Yoga Day events will be held across cities, towns and districts in the country. Yoga day events are being held in 192 countries, including in the Arab world. Indian missions abroad are all geared up the mark the occasion with some public events. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is to participate in the headline inaugural event at the UN that will be addressed by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and attended by well-known spiritual guru Ravi Shankar. In the national capital, 37,000 pink, blue and other coloured mats will make for a pretty backdrop on Rajpath as participants bend and stretch for the 35-minute event. India will seek to break a few records on the day, besides of the largest yoga gathering at a single spot with 37,000 people performing different yogic asanas or positions. More than 50 diplomats are expected to join in the yoga on Rajpath that day -

Does Modi do yoga? asks Russian president

S t P et e r S b u r g, JuNe 20 (iANS): Does the man who started the latest yoga fad across the country, and was instrumental in getting June 21 recognised as International Yoga Day, himself practice it? That’s what Russian President Vladimir Putin wanted to know from this IANS correspondent when he met him along with wire service reporters from 11 other countries.

“Does Modi do yoga?” Putin asked, when an aide told him that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had started a Ministry of Yoga. He was incredulous that such a ministry could be set up, and then smilingly asked why anyone would do that. He was curious to know if the man who wants to spread yoga, practice it. He was told that it was likely, though he had not been publicly seen to do it.

“Really?” he asked, with a smile. “He is a good man, and a personal friend,” Putin said in reply to a question from journalists who met him at midnight at the end of the second day of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum here. Yoga is an ideal medium to deal with lifestyle disorders, she said, citing as an example studies in applying it to deal with cardiovascular diseases in Russia that WHO has seen. It can also help in coping with stress and treating mental disorders by helping people develop "inner resilience", Menabde said. In Goa, yoga was being combined with other therapies to treat mental illness and it was showing results, she said. She said she saw a growing role for yoga as the world's proportion of ageing population increases. Ageing becomes healthier because of the ease of practice and the impact on both body and mind.

It has also been shown to help with arthritis and various other illnesses. India's Permanent Representative Asoke Kumar Mukerji said that the International Day of Yoga celebrations on Sunday would connect the UN with the world outside by linking the observances inside headquarter's open plaza with the mass yoga performances at New York's Times Square and around the world. The celebrations in 256 cities across 192 cities would touch two billion people, Mukerji. They would take place in even strife-torn places like Syria and the Central African Republic and the only country not able to participate would be Yemen, he said.

Parrikar, who has been camped in Goa for the last three days, attended a government function in Mandur village, 15 km from Panaji, where he was asked

to comment on a whole range of issues, including target killings in Kashmir's Sopore town and the Rafale deal. "On one hand, the Prime Minister talks of bringing back black money and fighting corruption while on the other his senior colleagues, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje are supporting somebody who has broken the laws of the land and against whom Enforcement Directorate has filed cases," senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said here. Sulabh to help UP brothers who cleared IIT test luckNow, JuNe 20 (iANS): Sanitation NGO Sulabh International on Saturday announced financial assistance and support to two brothers of Pratapgarh to pursue higher studies in the IITs. A spokesman of the NGO told IANS that taking note of media reports that a daily wager's sons Raju (18) and Brajesh (19) - who had made it to the top 500 positions in the IIT exams but did not have Rs.one lakh for admission into the premier institute - its founder Bindeshwari Pathak decided to bear the cost of their admission and further studies. Dharamraj, father of the two siblings, hails from Rehua-Lalganj in Pratapgarh in UP and works as a daily wager. Both the brothers have cleared the IIT test with 167 and 410 positions

but were unable to proceed any further owing to paucity of funds. Even the banks had turned down their requests for education loans as that was only possible after admission. Pathak told IANS that the brothers had shown how even under the toughest of conditions, the spirit to excel persists and added that they would also be an example and inspiration to thousands of youth living in villages in similar conditions. "Money will not become a hurdle for both the brothers and I will personally take care of their education and other needs," he added. Earlier too Sulabh International had given Rs. five lakh to Lucknow's child prodigy Sushma who cleared her high school exam at the age of seven

and took admission in post-graduation at the age of 13. Sulabh also supported Tathagat Tulsi, the child prodigy from Bihar. Tathagat now teaches in IITMumbai. HRD minister waives fees Meanwhile, the Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani on Saturday waived the admission fees for two brothers from Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh who cleared the IIT entrance exams but did not have money to pay the fees. In the last 5 days, Congress had asked 34 pointed questions to BJP "but no answer has come", Ramesh said, adding that the Prime Minister should break his "deafening silence" and move decisively to secure the resignation of Swaraj and Raje. Ramesh also wondered why TDP and TRS were silent adding, "We want to know their position.

MuMbAi, JuNe 20 (iANS): The toll in the Mumbai hooch tragedy the second worst among such incidents in 11 years in Maharashtra - shot up to 87 as the state government on Saturday cracked down by suspending four excise department officials. At least 20 people have been arrested while seven police officials have also been suspended. Deputy Commissioner of Police and spokesperson Dhananjay Kulkarni said that so far 87 deaths have been recorded, while 34 people were undergoing treatment in eight government and private hospitals. Police have so far arrested around 20 people in connection with the incident. These include 15 arrests by Mumbai police and five by the crime branch. roundings for at least four other bootleggers, said to be the kingpins of the illicit liquor trade. The excise department officials suspended are Rajendra Salunkhe, Jagdish Deshmukh, Varsha Vengulkar and Dhanaji Dalvi. Officials said they could also face a departmental

probe for failing to detect the illegal bootlegging activities in their jurisdiction. On Friday, Senior Police Inspector Prakash S. Patil of Malwani and seven others were placed under suspension. Meanwhile, as the toll kept mounting, Mumbai police launched a house-

to-house search in the Laxmi Nagar slum and other areas to ascertain if anybody had visited or bought liquor from there and consumed it. At least eight such people, unaware of the risk they faced, were detected on Saturday and taken to hospitals for treatment. The victims, from very poor backgrounds, mostly living in the Laxmi Nagar slum and employed as low paid drivers, daily labourers etc., had consumed the cheap country liquor at a bar in Rathodi village in Malwani area on Wednesday night. Criticising the BJP-Shiv Sena government, Maharashtra Congress president Ashok Chavan said the Malwani incident was an outcome of "blessings" to the mafia by those in power. " This was the second biggest illicit hooch tragedy to hit the state since December 23, 2004, when such liquor claimed 87 lives in two incidents in Mumbai.

EVMs to display images along with names, symbols

AgArtAlA, JuNe 20 (iANS) To ensure greater transparency and avoid confusion in the minds of voters, the Election Commission has decided that electronic voting machines (EVMs) would henceforth display images of the contestants along with their names and party symbols. The new system would be operational for the first time during the June 27 byelections to six assembly constituencies in five states - Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Tamil Nadu and Tripura. "Following a Supreme Court direction, the Election Commission has decided to display photos of the candidates besides their names and party symbols on the EVMs," Election Commission Secretary K.N. Bhar told IANS. The images would be displayed

between the party symbol and the candidate's name. "The new mode would be applicable from now onwards in all future elections to parliament and the state assemblies," he added. The official said that the new system would help voters easily identify the candidates of their choice, avoid confusion on candidates with namesakes and long lists of contestants. "The new method would be applied for the first time in India during the by-elections to six assembly seats in five states," Bhar added. The by-polls would be held on June 27 in two assembly constituencies in Tripura and one constituency each in the other four states. The poll panel has issued a notification to all Chief Electoral Officers and

stake holders concerned, making the new system compulsory. According to the EC notification, available with IANS, no uniforms would be allowed and caps and dark glasses have to be avoided in the candidates' photographs. The notification also said that the candidates are required to submit a photograph taken during the preceding period of three months before the date an election is notified. The photograph should be of stamp size with a white or off-white background, with full face view directly facing the camera, a neutral facial expression and with eyes open. The photo may be in colour or black and white as may be convenient for the candidate. "Following the directives of the Election Com-

mission, we are arranging the new systems for the forthcoming by-elections in the state," Tripura's additional Chief Electoral Officer Debashish Modak told IANS. "The commission considers that photographs of candidates (on the EVMs) will facilitate the electors in casting their votes and also the candidates in their campaign," Bhar said, adding that the candidates' photographs would also be printed on the postal ballots issued to the security personnel and officials engaged in the election process. The Supreme Court judgement had come on a public suit filed by Delhi resident Ashok Gahlot. "It would be a major boost for the Indian electorate that predominantly is illiterate and semi-literate often get confused with

candidates having identical names in the fray. Political parties often field dummy candidates with a similar name to confuse the voters," said Hiranmoy Chakraborty, who has considerable experience in the field. He was Tripura's joint chief electoral officer and has worked closely with several chief election commissioners, including the high-profile T.N. Seshan. "Sometimes candidates have been defeated because their votes had, supposedly due to confusion, gone to the dummy namesakes," Chakraborty added. "Although suitable suffixes are added to the names of candidates in the event or two or more candidates having same name, this new move would remove confusion in the minds of electors at the time of voting," Chakraborty noted.

Charleston church victims' families forgive suspect in court CHARLESTON, JuNE 20 (REuTERS): As the young white man charged with murdering nine people inside a historic black church in South Carolina stood silently and expressionless at a court hearing on Friday, relatives of the slain worshippers faced him one by one, offering tearful words of grief and forgiveness. Dylann Roof, 21, who authorities say spent an hour in Bible study with parishioners at the nearly 200-year-old Emanuel African Methodist Church in Charleston before opening fire on them, appeared via video feed before a magistrate judge who ordered him held without bond. Dressed in a black-andwhite prison uniform and flanked by two guards in body armor, Roof exhibited no visible emotion during the proceedings, even as he was addressed by loved ones of the victims. He was formally charged with nine counts of murder and a weapons offense. "May God have mercy on your soul," said Felicia Sanders, whose 26-yearold son, Tywanza Sanders, was the youngest person to die in Wednesday's rampage. "You have killed some of the most beautiful people that I know. Every fiber in my body hurts." Felicia Sanders was said by a family friend, according to an interview with CNN, to have survived the shooting rampage by lying on the floor and playing dead as she cradled another survivor, her 5-year-old granddaughter, while her son's blood soaked her clothes. According to friends and family, Tywanza Sanders pleaded with the gunman as he paused to reload his weapon, saying, "You don't have to do this," to which the suspect replied: "No, you've raped our women and taken our country. I've got to do what I've got to do."

Roof stared blankly, and glanced downward occasionally, as Sanders and four other family members of the gunshot victims spoke of how he had been welcomed into to the church by the nine people he has been charged with slaying. The attack at the church nicknamed "Mother Emanuel" for its key role in African-American history followed a wave of protests across the United States in recent months over police killings and excessive force against unarmed black men, focusing attention on race relations and bias in the criminal justice system. The bloodshed in Charleston, where residents packed an arena for a prayer vigil late Friday, marked the latest in a series of fatal U.S. mass shootings. The violence has renewed a national debate between advocates of tighter controls on gun possession and supporters of unfettered access to firearms they as-

sert is constitutionally protected under the Second Amendment. "The elephant in the room is guns. South Carolina and the country have gone gun-crazy," said state Representative Wendell Gilliard, a Democrat who represents Charleston. "How many times do we need to come together? How many times do we need to unite?" President Barack Obama, addressing the U.S. Conference of Mayors in San Francisco, said the latest shooting exposed the "blight" of racism still present in America, and he railed against critics who have accused him of politicizing a tragedy to talk about tougher gun laws. "You don't see murder on this kind of scale, with this kind of frequency, in any other advanced nation on Earth," he said. Yemen peace talks end with no deal

Yemen's exiled government and Shiite rebels who control the capital failed to agree on even a temporary cease-fire Friday as they wrapped up U.N.-brokered talks aimed at ending a conflict that has killed over 1,000 civilians and displaced more than a million since March. The collapse of the talks came as Saudi-led airstrikes continued to pound the Iran-backed rebels, known as Houthis, and their allies, killing at least 10 civilians in a northern rebel stronghold, witnesses said. The U.N. meanwhile called for $1.6 billion to help millions of Yemenis avoid a "looming humanitarian catastrophe." U.N. envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, who mediated the talks in Geneva, told reporters that the two sides broadly favor a cease-fire that would have rebels withdraw from cities and towns seized in recent months and the coalition halt its air campaign against them. "We didn't reach a fi-

nal agreement. We have to be clear and transparent," he said, adding that a deal "will require further consultation." "I come out with a certain degree of optimism," he added. "It's a matter of time." The fighting in Yemen pits the Houthis and allied troops loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh against southern separatists, local and tribal militias, Sunni Islamic militants and loyalists of President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, who is now based in Saudi Arabia. The rebels seized the capital, Sanaa, in September. Iran supports the rebels, known as Houthis, but denies arming them. The U.S. backs the Saudi-led coalition, which began launching airstrikes against the Houthis and their allies in late March, but has made little progress in pushing the rebels back. The exiled government had demanded the implementation of a U.N. Security Council resolution requiring the rebels to withdraw from cities and towns, including the capital. The Houthis had called for a temporary cease-fire, but

the government rejected it, saying the rebels had used a previous humanitarian pause to grab more land. Mediators had hoped to broker at least a temporary cease-fire for the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan, which began Thursday. Ould Cheikh Ahmed said the Houthis had signaled their willingness to implement the U.N. resolution in a proposal presented to him on Thursday, without elaborating on its contents. Another proposal called for deploying civilian observers to verify a ceasefire, he said. "There is no doubt that there is ground for reaching a cease-fire accompanied by withdrawal. What is important is that we all remember that there is a miserable humanitarian situation in Yemen," he said. U.N. spokesman Stephane Dujarric said there has been no date set for a second round of talks but that "discussions can still happen without people meeting in Geneva." "We're taking this dayby-day, step-by-step," Dujarric told reporters at U.N. headquarters in New York.

He said Ould Cheikh Ahmed would return to New York to brief the Security Council before likely embarking on another trip to the region for further consultations. U.S. State Department spokesman John Kirby said the talks were "a useful start to what will probably be a lengthy process." "We continue to support that process by the U.N. special envoy. We continue to urge all Yemeni participants to prioritize reaching an agreement to end the fighting," he told reporters in Washington. Yemen's Foreign Minister Riad Yassin had earlier told the Al-Jazeera network that international partners are "frustrated," and said the Houthis would bear the blame if the talks failed. The Friday morning airstrikes targeted Sanaa, the southern city of Aden and the provinces of Lahj and Jouf, officials and witnesses said. The 10 civilians were killed in strikes on the rebels' northern stronghold, Saada, witnesses said. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the press. The witnesses insisted on anonymity for fear of retribution. U.N. Under-SecretaryGeneral for Humanitarian Affairs Stephen O'Brien meanwhile warned of a "looming humanitarian catastrophe," with at least 11.7 million people affected by the conflict. He requested $1.6 billion dollars in emergency aid. "People across the country are struggling to feed their families. Basic services are collapsing in all regions. Millions of families no longer have access to clean water, proper sanitation or basic health care. Deadly diseases such as dengue and malaria have broken out, and supplies for acute trauma care are running dangerously low," he said in Geneva.

largest ports for the U.S. slave trade and the site of the first shots fired during the American Civil War, at the battle of Fort Sumter, a Union garrison in Charleston Harbor. "This was not merely a mass shooting, not merely a matter of gun violence, this was a racial hate crime and must be confronted as such," said Cornell William Brooks, president of the NAACP. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People was founded in 1909 to confront lynchings in the United States. Brooks expressed anger that the South Carolina capitol continued to fly the Confederate battle flag, a symbol of the pro-slavery South during the U.S. Civil War, and called for it to be removed. On Friday night, hundreds of mourners filled an indoor arena on the campus of the College of Charleston in a prayer vigil for the shooting victims. At one point, at the behest of the choir director, the racially mixed crowd rose to sing two hymns. Earlier in the day, passersby continued to flock to the AME church that remained a crime scene, many struggling to understand what motivated the attack. The AME church was founded in the early 19th century by black worshippers who were limited in how they could practice their faith at whitedominated churches. The church was rebuilt after being burned down in the late 1820s when one of its founders drafted plans for a slave revolt. "I grew up when racism was just a way of life," said Mary Meynardie, 90, who is white, as she stopped by the police tape that still surrounded the church. "I wouldn't have been surprised if it was somebody 60, 70 years old who had that much hate, but where does this hate come from?"

Suu Kyi warns instability could delay Myanmar polls

YANGON, JuNE 20 (AP): Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi told her party's senior members Saturday that this year's general election could be delayed if there is any instability in the country. The former Nobel Peace Prize winner did not go into specifics but Myanmar has seen several deadly outbreaks of violence between Buddhists and Muslims in the last few years amid a surge of Buddhist nationalist sentiment. This weekend, a movement of ultra-nationalist Buddhist monks is holding a keenly watched conference. Suu Kyi spoke at the opening of a two-day conference of her National League for Democracy, which is expected to mount a sharp challenge in the polls to the current military-backed government. In her speech at the party's twice-yearly meeting of central committee members, Suu Kyi said that stability ahead of the poll was "very important" as she wanted to see it go ahead on time.

"The election is getting closer. I want to stress that stability in the country is very important ahead of elections," said Suu Kyi. "I want to warn that elections could be delayed using instability as a reason." Suu Kyi's remarks can be seen as suggesting that the government or the military — which holds power behind the scenes — might want to take advantage of disorder to hold on to power. The election is slated for late October or early November but no exact date has yet been set. The NLD is expected to see heavy gains against the ruling Union Solidarity and Development Party. Suu Kyi also said when her party contested by-elections in 2012, it pledged to work for amending the 2008 constitution, and it continues to seek that. The current constitution contains clauses that bar her from becoming president. Parliament this coming week will debate several constitutional amendments.

Yoga and Christianity Government’s official yoga prog O are they compatible?

W

hen Christians practice yoga, they must either deny the reality of what yoga represents or fail to see the contradictions between their Christian commitments and their embrace of yoga. The contradictions are not few, nor are they peripheral. The bare fact is that yoga is a spiritual discipline by which the adherent is trained to use the body as a vehicle for achieving consciousness of the divine. Christians are called to look to Christ for all that we need and to obey Christ through obeying his Word. We are not called to escape the consciousness of this world by achieving an elevated state of consciousness, but to follow Christ in the way of faithfulness. The Bible warns of such spiritual seduction: “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;” (1 Timothy 4:1) It was the Lord Krishna (one of Hindu's many millions of deities), in the Bhagavad Gita, who introduced the ritual of yoga as a way of achieving union with the universe. The Sanskrit word yoga actually means "union" or "yoking", aiming at bringing about the union of the human spirit with the spirit of the universe. But what is more deeply meant is a separation from the physical illusion of life. A great part of Hindu teaching is that this world and all we see, is nothing more than an illusion. Ironically, while yoga is, more often than not, promoted as a way to achieve health and a better way of living; in the India, where it originated, it is more openly understood to be a way of dying. In Hindu and Buddhist writings yoga is described as the only sure way of escaping the endless

cycle of reincarnation and the laws of karma, thereby enabling someone to reach the Hindu idea of heaven (named "moksha") – or in the terminology of Buddhist teachings, to return to the buddhistic void (named "Sunyata") - where the idea of it being a way of dying reaches its finality. Moksha is by most Hindu schools understood to mean the state "which is beyond being", while "Sunyata" means simply emptiness. Both of these accomplishments have, as their finality, the destruction of the self. In other words, the physical exercises and positions ("asanas"), along with the breathing techniques ("pranayama"), and meditation ("dhyana") were originally developed for VERY spiritual and religious reasons. The Bhagavad Gita testifies of it in over 50 verses, and certainly it would be difficult not to classify the Bhagavad Gita as a guide to Hindu religion. One of the Lies Today Douglas R. Groothuis, Professor of Philosophy at Denver Seminary and a respected specialist on the New Age Movement, warns Christians that yoga is not merely about physical exercise or health. “All forms of yoga involve occult assumptions,” he warns, “even hatha yoga, which is often presented as a merely physical discipline.” One branch or path of yoga is called Hatha Yoga and this is probably what most people in the world associate with the word "yoga" – believing it is being practised only for mental and physical health. Some of the positions in yoga are not quite as harmless as they may appear, but are obviously of demonic in origin, as in the “cobra”, which is usually followed by “greeting the sun” – and taking the pose of the “mountain”. These are all positions which are designed to

welcome Hindu gods. In the Hatha Yoga Pradipika it mentions the following in chapter one: “Salutations to Shiva, who taught the science of Hatha Yoga. It is the aspirant’s stairway to the heights of Raja Yoga... Yogi Svatmarama … explains the science of hatha for one reason – Raja Yoga.” So here we see clearly that Hatha Yoga was specifically designed to lead the practitioner onto Raja Yoga. Raja Yoga, however, is chiefly concerned with the cultivation of the mind through meditation. Shiva is also known as the Destroyer (of evil) or Yogeshwara (Lord of Yogis). Shiva's consort is Devi, or Kali, the goddess of death. Therefore, the idea that Hatha Yoga is "purely physical" is very much once again a distortion of the truth (in other words, an outright lie) and indeed begs the question "Why the cover up or confusion?" Karma & Reincarnation Yoga was specifically designed as a way to escape the constant and never-ending deaths and rebirths of reincarnation - ("...the fire of yoga burns all Karmas", Kundalini Yoga, by Sri Swami Sivananda). The idea of karma however goes so far that some yoga believers will not help people - as you may inadvertently be helping someone who is in trouble due to bad karma, and who is supposed to be working it off - and so by helping them you actually take away their chance to work it off. This all stands of course in total opposition to the Word of God - as stated in HEBREWS 9:27 - "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:" Is it not a strange situation that in India, where the teaching of karma and reincarnation has been alive for longer than anywhere else in the world, that the economic prog-

ress there only breeds social injustice and that poverty, starvation and terrible suffering just continue to increase? What Do You Do about It? Things may not have become as bad as that for you, but be aware anyway – if you practice yoga, you practice Hinduism; and the more you do it, the more you open yourself up to the spiritual side of it. You have to make a choice: Do you want to follow Shiva (who taught the “science” of Hatha Yoga) who is also named the Destroyer or Christ, who came to heal and save, and who has proved by His life, death and resurrection that He is Lord and that He loves us without us having done anything to deserve it. Yoga is not just a harmless physical exercise, it opens the door to demonic control. On which side do you ultimately want to stand? The devil’s or Christ’s? The consequences are more serious than you might realise. JOHN 10:10 - "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." Philippians 4:8: “Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.” When one clears his mind, he is opening himself up to demonic powers. We are to only let our minds dwell on Godly things and meditate on Scripture. Again, we are not to clear our minds, empty ourselves and open ourselves up to anything but God. Life or Death it is your choice Rev: Richard 7th Mile Chumukedima Town

ne Chief Ministers of Nagaland actually wanted to avoid the Naga Christian's unstoppable habit of seeking Interview with the Chief Minister even on Sundays that he constructed a Prayer House in his Official Compound in search of 'Peace with God' he so ardently desired! The teetotaler athletic Chief Minister also practiced Yoga with some hopeful zeal for some time for its good benefits on Health of the CM. Sadly however, in spite of the zealous Prayers and earnest Yoga he practiced; the young Chief Minister passed away prematurely. Health is a very importance subject to a Government of a Welfare State. The Government tries to provide basic free Medical Care to its Population. Health of the Citizens is so important to the State that the Government even imposes restrictions and control the manufacture of injurious Drugs, Chemicals and products like Tobacco, Cigarettes, Opium and Toxicants. The cultivation of Opium and Cannabis is prohibited. Recently the distribution of Magi Noodle, a Nestle Product, has even been banned from the Market for containing banned chemicals above the permissible limit. The Company had to withdraw its product from the Market worth many Crores. The health of the citizens of the State is of great importance to the Government. Nagaland has banned the sale of Liquor in the Public and in the Market Places, but Dealers of empty Alcohol Bottles is a lucrative business in the Market. It is appears Kid Play for the Government to meddle into individual personal habit of: i. how to inhale the Air through the Nose, ii. how to sit cross-legged on the floor and close the Eyes.

iii. how to exercise the muscles of the Body, iv. how to Meditate in a particular Pose, v. how to get enough sleep at night, and vi. how to relax the Brain. This appears the Government Nose is poking in the personal lives of the individual Citizens too much. This may indicate a sign of rigid Democracy and may even indicate immaturity in Democracy. The Government imposing an Official Program of Yoga on the whole of the population is an overdose of governance. Yoga is a good thing, it is worth propagation, but the Government taking up Yoga Exercise as an Official Program for the individual of the whole Population, is reminiscence of the over-zealous officials for Sterilization Program in India during the Emergency! When Baba Ram Dev came to Nagaland in great fanfare a few years ago, to preach the gospel of the great beneficial effect of Yoga to the Nagas; many Nagas had the wrong lurking fear, his gospel must have something to do with the interest of the Political Party identified with the Saffron Color because the young Baba came in immaculate Saffron Color. Incidentally the Baba went away without even a descent 'Good Bye' from the populace of the State; this time Yoga may go away from Nagaland without even the semblance of a desultory 'bye bye'. For a great Government, to make an official Program on how the individual limbs of the Citizen should be folded or stretched in a particular fashion or moved or sleep flat on the floor in a gymnastic manner, is not honorable matter. 'How to care for his or her own Health, mental or physical, is the person's own individual look-out and not the Government officially. Thepfulhouvi Solo

Yoga should not be imposed on people of other faiths

Y

oga, which is a practice of Hindu culture, cannot be and should not be imposed on people of other faiths. India is secular country and why a practice which is against Christianity should be imposed on the people belonging to Nagaland which is a Christian state? While the hidden agenda is very obvious, this is to caution my fellow Christians not be misled and carried away with the benefits of yoga. Complete disregard to the Christians are shown by fixing the International Yoga Day on a Sunday, which is a holy day and that too on Father's Day. We should be like Daniel, Shadrach,

Meshach and Abed Nego before King Nebuchadnezzar, Prophet Elijah at Mount Carmel and Apostle Paul before the Sanhedrin. Let us also not forget the forces involved in vandalizing the churches and complete indifference towards Christian sacred days. We can be good citizens of our country and pray for peaceful co-existence among different religious faiths without compromising our own faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Let us remain true Christians in true faith and spirit in all circumstances. Rev. Moses Murry General Superintendent AGEI

Destination Homeward-3 ELECTRICITY THE COMMODITY OF LIFE

Dimapur: The place I love to dislike but end up going to!

T

here are very few places on this planet that we truly dislike yet we cannot escape them, because of their strategic locations. The Almighty is gracious enough to place them at the centre or in between the traveler’s destinations, and there is no end-destination till one’s feet touches the ground of these places. They are not holy grounds to where people religiously take pilgrimages with utmost intent, or some best tourist spots to be experienced before going six feet under. These places are just there and many people fall into the trap of settling there. Dimapur is one such place. But, perhaps Dimapur is different because it has the mysterious Niathu resort and Noune Resort (no one knows who owns it and where the money comes from!), a State Stadium, castles and palatial houses- the place where our State’s wealth drains into! So, I went a day ahead to Dimapur and stayed for the night before I headed for my ‘home’. For the first time in my life, as I journeyed down from Kohima to Dimapur, I felt like one of our (dis?) honorable Ministers with fleet of siren-sounding security cars breezing through. Like their convoy, the taxi I took breezed through the highway without any fear of craters or puddles or landslides and the like, because the highway is well-kept. The only absentees were the sirens and the guards, which our “public servants” use aplenty without much ado. In my earlier narrative, I mentioned that Dimapur is a “wannabe” place but cannot be, because inside people’s head Dimapur might seem like a beautiful mess. It is definitely a mess, I do not know about the beauty. Here is why. From the moment you set your foot on Dimapur’s soil the people around you are baffling. It seems like you are in one of the localities of Guwahati, and not in Nagaland. Because if you see that every fifth face is a Naga, in a place in Nagaland, you are flummoxed! It gets filthier when the pan wallahs and the auto wallahs start talking to you in broken Nagamese. The Nagamese neologism sounds retarded and unacceptable to someone like me who can claim at least a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Nagamese had it been an official language and an institutionalized subject of study. It gets obscene and sounds vulgar when some of them start talking to you with twangs, like they were born in the heart of Mokokchung, or Zunheboto, or Kohima. Now, some of them can even use our favourite and famous abuse word “L***a” better than most Nagas! But hats off to them, they are learning fast and getting easily assimilated into and accustomed to our culture and way of life, which otherwise is foreign to them. Thanks to our beloveds living in Dimapur. Dimapur is neither a city nor a town. The congestion, the population

and the number of autos and vehicles could elevate it to a city, but the other indices clearly say, not! The Eiffel Tower look-alike structure where many incidents and events take place, does not help at all. Kohima has every right to traffic jams. Not Dimapur. There is clearly scope to regulate traffic in Dimapur but the authorities and its citizens, while cursing inaudibly as they drive, does nothing to improve it. Every vehicle is going everywhere along with the mixed-population scrambling all over. For convenience and neutrality’s sake, I will henceforth call Dimapur as Citytown (‘C’ in capital lest the people living therein might take offence). This will pleasure both parties equally- those who call Dimapur a city and those who call it a town. God help if your friends and relatives live near Eros Lane. Describing where they live to friends is like watching those “other kind of movies” when suddenly parents come in uninformed. That feeling! That face! Anyway, it is a locality in the heart of the Citytown. The railway station, the only fly-over of the Citytown, night-bus station, cinemas, churches, Hazi Park, Supermarket, Hongkong Market (it is not Hongkong, neither are the people, nor are the goods!) etc. all thrive within the vicinity. The area can be befittingly called “business hub” of the Citytown. Surrounded by such business grandiose is the aforementioned lane which is difficult to explain to people liberally. A huge smirk appears on people’s face just by hearing “I live in Eros Lane” or “my relatives live in Eros Lane therefore I’m going to visit them.” This is a tricky part. In most localities there are magnificent houses, thickly walled and securely gated. But right at the next inch of those majestic buildings are delinquent drains and eternal stagnant puddles filled with muddy waters (Citytownians be like, yeah! We love that band!). Kohima is the official headquarter, but Citytown is our commercial headquarter where all the officials take their share from Kohima (few legally and most illegally) and throws their economic weight around in construction and owning fancy cars, trying to outdo each other. Hence, houses that looks like straight from Hollywood Boulevard and Beverly Hills, Sedans and SUV’s that can command second looks, all co-exist here. Ironically and sadly, the environment does not agree with their paradigm of wealth and richness. For the evening, before leaving, I had gone to stay with my friend at PWD Colony. The house he rented was super good and spacious. Within the gate the ground was all cemented and tiled. But smack in front of their gate started a procession of potholes, with every shapes and sizes imaginable. I looked around, it was the same everywhere. In my last article “Destination Home-

ward- 2”, I talked about “that thing” from Teen Patti towards DBHSS in Kohima. Well, here was something totally different. When they show satellite pictures of the Moon and Mars, it shows pore-like patches splattered all over the surface. Similar patches of ironical craters are splattered everywhere in the Public Works Department neighbourhood. My friend suggested we go to Fellowship Colony where another friend stays. Talking about falling from ‘one nala to another nala’, here it was a ‘drain journey.’ Fellowship colony was no less as the drainage and the road evenly ran alongside each other. Therefore, from one drain to another drain we wenthappy in spirit but unhappy physically. The problem is that, in Kohima since the earth’s surface is uneven there is one way or the other through which water-clogging is avoided, naturally. But in Citytown, because it is plain, clogging is as common as the non-Naga face. I thought, maybe someone at one point of time had come to rebuild the road but was unable to, because there was no way one could differentiate which is road and which is drain. It might have been perplexing for the person, because digging one side might be the drain which should not be dug or vice-versa. I asked some of my friends to name some colony with good roads. They roared! If I should start about the weather, mosquitoes, and the power supply it will take scrolls of books, because I can recount every single mosquitoes I have killed in the Citytown. I would not be surprised if someone from the only Citytown in Nagaland takes a strong stand against this piece and counter. But I am going to the bank happily, full of cash, knowing that the dirt from Kohima and the towns and villages all the way to Citytown washes down to Citytown. With the only Airport and the only Railway Station in the State, it is the connecting point- the main aorta of life for the entire State. A multi-pronged strategy is needed to address the development issues of Citytown- the face of Nagaland. With all our Honorable(s) and Dishonorable(s) flocking at this junction of civilization, it is only expected that the wholesome growth and development of the place pace-up simultaneously with the pace of resorts and mighty buildings. Comparatively, roads and drainage will be much easier to manage in our Citytown. There is potential to broaden the roads with proper traffic regulation, and at the same time redress the issues of drainage and sanitation. Meanwhile, there is still scope, there is still hope. Or else it will forever remain a place which would be best described in the words of the great American political activist and revolutionary Thomas Paine as “Necessary Evil.” Toshi Longkumer, New Delhi

P

eople paralyses Life without Electricity. Every house hold now depends on electricity. Every walk of life talk about technological advancement/development/economic growth/ focuses on industrial development in the state of Nagaland. Dimapur one and only commercial hub of Nagaland or the face and Mirror of Naga people has been facing frequent power cuts for couple of months back and seeing the department and field workers working day and night trying to replace the old rusted transformers with limited KVAs in most of the places and load shedding particularly the most effected area like Purana Bazaar to Airport. Everyday repairing after repairing of old Transformers as the Consumers increases day by day. The power backup decreases everyday .In major cities and advance countries the connection of electricity if fully installed underground and no chances of damaging electric post or wire connection in anyway. But we see for e.g. that when summer rain, summer heat, summer wind etc etc comes to us there will be no power supply completely living in dark forgetting all about positive talk about advancement and development. Why why why, let’s not always try to blame the department of course whether good or bad the ultimate blame goes to concern power department and the

Government. But what I would like to share my thoughts as a consumer that, are we paying the bills regularly? As we buy the commodity every day we buy/purchase our daily food for our survival but never realise that electricity is most valuable commodity in our daily life. No light No food. No light No work. No work nothing to eat if there is nothing to eat people will starve and perish, so please use the electricity judiciously without wasting it. In some places around Dimapur street lights keeps burning on for day & night. And most of the villagers says the monthly bill is just a little amount so they keep on burning for day and night fully wasting not realising others are suffering because of them. In order to reduce the power consumption instead of using Bulbs replacing of CFL bulbs like Tripura State would be great help. Power Department and likeminded leaders please educate the consumers either by way of organising seminars/village wise/area wise district wise etc which would be of great help in the future. Hooking system without paying bill must be completely stopped and penalised according to the norms. Electronic meter billing system must be fully implemented if possible in town areas as a first step. Every consumer should know that whatever we pay manages the regular supply we

THE CHANGE

W

hen a person starts to questioning himself, he is at a crossroad. A decision of extreme consequence is expected. An extremely good or an extremely bad one for himself and those around him. The Nagas have woken up. The people have started questioning themselves, their church leaders, their frontal organisations, their government, people are realizing their rights, the common men are voicing out their concerns and we can see that things have changed and is changing at a very good pace since the past few years. Now the people wants to know the rule of the game in which they are playing. We are living in a world where even the supposedly-internal affairs our land can be made known by everyone from every corners of the world at any time. It’s amazing how technology and the youth is contributing to the change that we are seeing today. Technology and education make a formidable pair. But we have to admit that out of the many wonderful things that we have achieved through this, it is dangerous sometime.

Let us make use of the social media as a platform to share our ideas to bring a positive change in our land. Today we need leaders who are practical in their dealing at the same time one who can understand the stand and aspiration of the common man. We need leaders who can answer the questions of the people and not run away and hide. We need leaders who can accept criticism and advice from his friends, critics and seniors even if that means taking a step back. We need leaders who has the will to observe and understand the picture of both side of the coin though very difficult it may be. We need leaders who can lead the youth force with a clear view to bring the change that we all desire. As for our church, the church should pray to God for his merciful grace for all people, including the poor and the laymen. And with their ministry there is a fine line with governance. The church should be a good pressure group to the government only as far as governance is concern. Our student leaders, the primary objective of a student organisations should never change, to work for the welfare of the

receive in return. On the other hand concerned Department also should be able to utilise the revenue collected from the consumers positively. According to daily news paper power Engineers meet for upgradation of power substations in most of the areas needs to take up urgently by the policy makers without delay. Most people living in town especially in Dimapur, apart from buying and selling uses online system business. We use extra power backup inverters/generators for short period but ultimately that needs to be fully charged by electricity .For the convenience of the consumers advance press information about the upcoming restoration work for certain colonies or areas would be highly appreciated as usual, instead of waiting for the whole day thinking that the light would come at any time leaving aside all other pending works. Most of the time shortage of field staff has been highlighted by the department concerned is also a major issue to be taken up seriously. Now the co- ordination between the department & the consumers is indeed very much crucial at this hour of power crisis without blaming each other. Therefore let us join our hands together for the better service and improvement of power supply in Nagaland particularly Dimapur. Kashito Kiba Padumpukhuri Dimapur. students and not for politicians or any other people. Nagas are known for their honesty and bravery. Those are our treasured assets. It is a sad thing to notice that, all form of corruption and immoral activities can be seen happening here in our land today. We have been too afraid for too long to do the right thing. But I believe it’s not too late to make new start. It is not too late to make a better Nagaland, the land that our forefather sacrificed their life for it. And it is assuring to see the vast majority of the people hoping and wanting to see a better Nagaland. It give me a new hope to see various movement started by the common men to bring a change in our land. A revolution is here. A revolution within the heart has reached the Nagas and this is just the beginning. It may take some years to bring the change, but it has started and that’s important. To see a change, we have to make a change. We have to accept and face the consequence of the past, start again on the ground of truth and work towards a better and a brighter future.

he underdog story is a guaranteed trope in movies, in which characters overcome adverse circumstances and make it big. But in Remo D’Souza’s sequel to “ABCD – Any Body Can Dance”, you’d have to look really hard to find that story, hidden as it is under layers and layers of gauze, outlandish costumes and an assembly line of flashy dance routines. “ABCD 2” is based on the true story of a dance group, which started out from a Mumbai suburb, and reached the finals of the Hip Hop International dance championship in Las Vegas. Heavily inspired by successful Hollywood dance franchises like “Step Up”, director D’Souza, himself a choreographer, fails to cash in

on the great material he has, because the story of a dance group’s ascent to stardom could have been a compelling one. Throughout the film, D’Souza gives us some impressively choreographed songs, featuring an array of rare moves. But it fails to string together a strong storyline, and relies instead on body-bending movements to create drama. Beyond the dance performances, “ABCD 2” is disappointing and lacks cinematic flair or energy. Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor are seen in a still from “ABCD 2” The dialogue is inane and the acting immature, especially from dancer Shraddha Kapoor her teacher Prabhudheva. It is obvious they cannot emote to save their lives. Like the first part, “ABCD 2” uses familiar dance motifs,

including a song about Lord Ganesha or a rendition of Vande Mataram, India’s national song, as the tricolour is being hoisted. The introduction of faux patriotism is rather abrupt and unnecessary, and digresses from the main theme. The 3D technology also doesn’t particularly enhance the visuals, and therefore it feels like a waste because wearing those glasses for close to three hours can be an ordeal. Varun Dhawan stand outs among the cast because everyone else around him is mediocre. As an ambitious and earnest dancer, his character is graceful and fluid. Except for the honest note he strikes, the rest of the film could have been just a bunch of music videos and no one would have been the wiser.

Under-20 World Cup: Serbia are champions

AUCKLAND, JUNe 20 (AP): Nemanja Maksimovic scored late in extra time to give Serbia a surprise 2-1 win over Brazil on Saturday in the final of the Under-20 World Cup. The match seemed headed for a penalty shootout when Serbia counterattacked in the 117th minute and Stefan Ilic combined with Andrija Zivkovic to put Maksimovic in behind the defense and he calmly slotted his low shot past goalkeeper Jean. The victory, and Serbia's first title as an independent nation, owed much to goalkeeper and captain Pedrag Rajkovic who pulled off a series of saves to repeatedly deny Brazil the victory. "I can tell you we were lucky," Serbia coach Veljko Paunovic said. "But luck is a part of the game and you have to deserve to be lucky. At the end I believe the team that wanted to win most would win this trophy and we got it." Bra-

Hamilton survives spin to take 45th pole

SPieLbeRg, JUNe 20 (AFP): Defending world champion and series leader Lewis Hamilton secured the 45th pole position of his career Saturday when he outpaced Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg in a dramatic rain-affected qualifying for Sunday's Austrian Grand Prix. The 30 year-old Briton survived a last-gasp spin at the first corner of his final fast run to stay on top thanks to 29-year-old German Rosberg following suit by running off track at the final corner in his final push for pole. For Rosberg, faced with a long trudge back to the pits, it was an ignominious end to a frustrating top-ten shootout after he had appeared to be fastest for most of the session. Hamilton took his pole with a best lap of 1min 8.455sec, outpacing Rosberg by 0.2 seconds. Vettel was third fastest for Ferrari. Brazilian Felipe Massa was fourth for Williams ahead of German Nico Hulkenberg, fifth for Force India, and Finn Valtteri Bottas in the second Williams. The struggling McLaren Honda team was already swamped by problems with Briton Jenson Button, the 2009 champion, requiring a complete new power unit with gearbox and two-time champion Spaniard Fernando Alonso adding a new gearbox to his earlier new engine. This meant that both men are set for 25-place grid penalties for Sunday's race which, in turn, means they will start from the back of the grid and have to take timed penalties. Button ended up finishing 17th in Q1, one place behind Mexican Sergio Perez of Sauber and one ahead of another unexpected flop Kimi Raikkonen of Ferrari.

two minutes as Andreas Pereira weaved past defenders before curling in a shot for a superb goal, but the favorites could not find a second throughout the remainder of regulation and extra time as Rajkovic stood tall in goal.

Brazil's "next generation" was chasing a sixth U20 title. Before the match, influential Brazil midfielder Gabriel Boschilia said the team was "trying to restore the image of Brazilian football" after the senior team's 7-1 loss at home against

Germany in last year's World Cup semifinals. "The world lost a little respect for our country's players after what happened at the 2014 World Cup, so we want to show them that we can still produce the goods," he said.

Brazil coach Rogerio Micale consoled his players individually after the match and urged them not to give up on their task of rebuilding Brazilian football. "I believe they were an example today and throughout this tournament with what they

did and with their professionalism," Micale said. "I am very proud of this team. They are a great generation and I will be proud when they play for the national team." Torrential rain doused the third-place playoff be-

tween Mali and Senegal - won 3-1 by Mali - but abated before the start of the final, which was played in dry conditions until a spectacular but short-lived cloudburst swept over North Harbour Stadium during extra time. Brazil made most of the early play but found the Serbia defense, pivoting around Rajkovic, as tenacious as its own. Jean Carlos had the first real chance of the match in the 10th minute, striking a powerful shot from the edge of the area which elicited a superb save from Rajkovic. Brazil probed on both flanks and in the 20th minute Gabriel Jesus broke free of his marker on the right, cut inside and fired a low shot which Rajkovic again repelled. Jaoa Pedro showed his pace and attacking prowess in the 25th minute when he broke through midfield, controlled the ball under pressure and got in a shot which again found Rajkovic in perfect position.

(AP Photo) SANtiAgo, JUNe 20 (AFP): Brazil superstar Neymar was dramatically thrown out of the Copa America as Chile shrugged off the drunk-driving controversy surrounding Arturo Vidal to power into the quarter-finals. Neymar's participation in the South American footballing showpiece came to an abrupt end after a disciplinary hearing slapped him with a four-match ban for headbutting a Colombian opponent. The punishment deprives the tournament of one of its most recognizable stars and leaves Brazil in turmoil as it contemplates the remainder of the tournament without their captain and best player. Neymar's fate had been in the balance after he was given a red

card for headbutting an opponent during a post-match brawl that erupted after Brazil's 1-0 upset loss to Colombia in Group C on Wednesday. The 23-year-old superstar was already ruled out of Brazil's final group game against Venezuela on Sunday after collecting a second yellow card of the tournament against the Colombians. Neymar, who was also fined $10,000, can appeal the punishment. But unless the ban is reduced it means he has played his last game of the Copa, with Brazil having at most four games left. Colombian player Carlos Bacca, who shoved Neymar following his butt on goal scorer Jeison Murillo, was suspended for two games.

- Chile rout On the pitch Friday, hosts Chile, rocked by the arrest for drunk-driving of star midfielder Vidal earlier in the week, turned on the style to ensure qualification for the quarterfinals as group winners with a 5-0 demolition job of Bolivia. Both Chile and Bolivia had already been assured of a place in the last eight after Ecuador's 2-1 victory over Mexico earlier in the day. Goals from Charles Aranguiz (2), Alexis Sanchez, Gary Medel and an own goal from Bolivia captain Ronald Raldes completed a one-sided rout for the hosts, who now face a quarter-final in Santiago next Wednesday against the best ranked third placed team from the first phase, most likely to be either Uruguay or Paraguay.
