Ha..ha ,yea, I called you a hopeless thief. Ha, ha, remember you called me a corrupt thug? Anyway the cockfight is over and we are friends again.
There are only 25 pediatricians (child’s physician) to take care of 6 lakh children in the state, bringing the ratio of childrendoctor to 30,000:1, revealed Dr M Kithan, Additional Director, Health & Family Welfare on Saturday. And with such limited number, it comes as a huge responsibility for pediatricians to discharge their duties and responsibilities with utmost sincerity and commitment, Dr Kithan said while addressing a gathering of pediatricians during its 5th annual conference of Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP), Nagaland State Branch at Hotel Acacia. He pointed out that the inability of children to properly communicate about their health problems demands that the doctors be patient with them by showing humility,
compassion, love and concern while exhibiting competence in their profession. The additional director indicated that pediatricians should be spread in all districts when he queried, “If every pediatrician concentrates only in Kohima and Dimapur, then who will look after other districts?” President of IAP Nagaland, Dr Tokuho L Chishi expressed happiness that the IAP Nagaland was awarded the 3rd prize at the national level for its participation in the ORS Day, 2014. He said that the IAP Nagaland has achieved a lot from embracing technology for its office work thereby increasing coordination, time usage and cutting down expenditures. During the programme, Dr Mridu Plaban Bora, MD (Peds) Fellow Pediatric Nephrology, Consultant Pediatrician, Pratiksha Hospital, Guwahati spoke on ‘Recurrent UTI.’
Inhabitants of Njuana, one of the last villages under Peren district bordering Manipur, still repose more faith on traditional healers than modern doctors. Almost all the villagers use traditional medicines as their primary health care needs. When there is stomach pain, joint pain, or bones broken, the villagers visit straightaway their most popular traditional healer Teihet, who crushes herbs and roots gathered from the nearby forest to treat them. In case of more severe ailments like fever, jaundice, malaria, typhoid, the villager turn to Selu, another healer from Ketang villager, under Manipur. It takes three hours to reach Ketang by foot. Selu is very popular. Villagers claim he even cured an HIV infected patient. Absence of proper road connectivity and development has denied access to medical facilities. This apparently remains the main factor behind the dependency of villagers on traditional healers. “We hadn’t had much a chance of getting acquainted with modern drugs and doctors,” Masang, secretary Njuana village council pointed out. Doctors remain a rarity for the villagers - sighted only during medical camps which occur maybe, once or twice in years. The nearest Primary Health Centre is nearly 50 kilometers away at Tening. And to reach there is easier said than done. It was only in 2006 the first cutting of road to Njuana got underway, the villagers said. However, the road is not motor-able. No vehicle was willing to travel to their village because of the appalling road condition which becomes more compounded during monsoon. “It is as if the road was only constructed for the loggers to transport big timbers in big trucks,” a villager
remarked wryly. Soiling and metalling of the road only begun a year back, despite the Centre releasing the funds four years ago. Getting access to hospital, clinic and doctors during emergency remains the main problem. And it has become a routine affair for the villagers to transport patients on bamboo stretchers by foot. “During emergencies, we depend on luck-of getting a timely vehicle for hire from Ntuma (after trekking for three hours), and pray that the patient does not die on the way,” said Masang. But not everyone has returned alive or healed. The last time the villagers attempted to carry an injured child on a bamboo stretcher to Tening PHC,

DanTewaDa, May 9 (HT): Maoists killed one person and released others held hostage by them ahead of PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Chhattisgarh on Saturday. “The rebels killed one villager identified as Sadaram who used to coordinate the construction activities of a bridge. He was killed in a “Jan Adalat” (kangaroo court) held by Maoists. Around 300 tribals returned to their village at around 9 pm”, Sukma district police chief D Sharawan confirmed to Hindustan Times. CCSU ultimatum to Faculty exchange SCERT expires today begins in Nagaland
Tuensang, May 9 (Mexn): With the deadline of its 30-day ultimatum to the State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT) expiring on May 10, the Confederation of Chang Students’ Union (CCSU) today stated that it is constraint to take its own course of action. no positive response from the department concerned thus far,” stated the press note issued by CCSU vice president, Kelep and assistant general secretary, S Nayang. Aicc issues ‘show cause’ notice to cong legislators Morung Express News

Going by the current predicament at the Congress camp; one of the oldest political party in the state, it may well be on its way to becoming a ‘lifeless party.’ Defying party’s stand to abstain from joining the TR Zeliang ministry, seven Congress legislators including CLP leader Tokheho Yepthomi and former NPCC president SI Jamir on Friday took oath to be a part of the DAN III government. Newly appointed NPCC president K Therie, prior to the induction, had verbally conveyed the decision of the All India Congress Commit-
Y K
tee (AICC) that it will not associate with communal political parties. By communal parties, it was referring to the BJP party, which was also a part of the DAN government. On Saturday, an official show cause by AICC was issued to the seven Congress legislators by V Narayanasamy, In-charge, North Eastern States, AICC as to why action should not be initiated against them for violating party direction by joining the NPF government headed by TR Zeliang along with BJP MLA in the ministry. The seven Congress legislators have been given seven days to explain their stand. Defending their decision;
CLP leader Tokheho, right after the induction played the gimmick of Naga political parties- it had accepted to join the government in the interest of the Naga people and to jointly work towards finding a solution to the Naga political issue. Source from the Congress camp disclosed that the legislators would be making a bee line for Delhi to convince the central leaders to make amends on their decision of joining Zeliang government. Hukavi Zhimomi and C Apok Jamir would be leaving on Sunday. Others would follow suit, the source added. However, if the AICC central leaders remain adamant on their decision, the legisla-
tors may have no option but to float a new party, said another source. With the last remaining Congress MLA expected to be appointed as deputy speaker, the scenario would come to a point where K Therie would be pitted against the eight Congress legislators and their supporters. “Therie realizes that the Congress party stands to lose everything, including active supporters if the legislators chose to quit and float a new party, the reason why he remains reticent,” the source added. As it now looks, the odds seem stacked against the survival of the Congress party in Nagaland.

“In January, our village ex-secretary fell from a tree and his thigh bones were shattered. He is being treated by Teihet and in the process of being healed,” said Masang, who himself was treated and healed of a shattered calf bone injury. Teihet, aged around 70, uses herbs, roots and tree barks gathered from Mt Kisa and the nearby forest to make his medicine. He said there is a repository of healing plants in the area. However, the secret to his medicine are not for all. Not everyone gets to be a healer. There is a tradition of handing down the knowledge of indigenous medicine making. “I can’t pass on the knowledge to my son. It should either be handed down to my son-in-law, or the husband of my brother or sister’s daughter,” he said.

An exchange of teaching and learning began in Nagaland with a team of 13 teachers having arrived from Mumbai to teach in Nagaland. The People-to-People Programme for National Integration and Faculty Exchange Programme is an initiative of Nagaland Governor P B Acharya. The team of teachers is led by Principal of Gopal Sharma International School, Powai (Mumbai), Gool Ghariali. A fellowship dinner and interactive session was organised for the visitors, and teachers and other intellectuals from Nagaland at Unity College here this evening. Knowledgeable views were shared about education in India, and how to contextualise the same. “A teacher’s mission should be the success of every student,” said Gool Ghariali, speaking at the event. “We are here for 10 days not so much to teach but to learn. We will be happy to share information and knowledge with teachers of Nagaland,” she maintained. The teachers will visit schools in Peren, Jalukie and Kohima from May 9-19. Rekha Palnitkar (38), a mathematics teacher, was excited at the thought of coming East. “I Googled Nagaland immediately on hearing of the opportunity. Everyone has been so hospitable ever since we arrived,” she said, looking forward to exchanging teaching methodologies with teachers in Nagaland. But she also wants to know about the food, culture and lifestyles of people here, hoping to have an “overall” exchange experience.

ULFA hawks’ supply line hit Hasina thanks Tripura CM for backing land swap deal as NSCN (K) breaks ceasefire
Meghalaya House staffer fined Rs 5k for burning leaves
GUWAHATI, MAy 9 (TNN): The termination of bilateral ceasefire agreement between the Centre and NSCN (K) last week has pushed the Myanmar-based cadres of the anti-talks faction of ULFA (I), led by Paresh Baruah, into a deep crisis as cross-border movement of its cadres and materials facilitated by the Naga outfit have come to a stop. Baruah is now looking for outfits, which are in ceasefire with the Centre, to keep his supply line from and into his faction's base in the Taga area of western Myanmar open. A security source said Baruah has already sent feelers to two NSCN factions in ceasefire — NSCN (IM) and newly formed NSCN (Reformation). The NSCN (R), led by Wangtin Naga and P Tikhak, is a breakaway
NEW DELHI, MAy 9 (PTI): Tightening its vigil on incidents of waste burning in its areas, the New Delhi Municipal Council has imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on an employee of Meghalaya House who was found burning leaves. "Sri Chand, an employee of Meghalaya House was spotted burning dry leaves and other wastes inside the building premises on Thursday," NDMC spokesperson Jagjivan Bakshi said. "NDMC issued a notice to him informing that a fine of Rs 5,000 has been imposed on him for polluting the environment. He was asked to deposit the fine or appear before the NGT on May 18," Bakshi added. The NGT had last month pulled up the New Delhi Municipal Council over its failure to check waste burning in Lodhi Garden and had asked it to be more vigilant and careful in future.
faction of NSCN (K) after the duo was expelled by SS Khaplang following differences over abrogation of the ceasefire pact with the Centre. "We have inputs about Paresh Baruah being in deep crisis after Khaplang pulled out of the peace process and the government nullifying the 14year ceasefire pact with Khaplang. All his supply routes now are closed as NSCN (K) men have gone underground again. Till recently, when NSCN (K) was in ceasefire, Baruah's men were also moving in Mon district with Khaplang's men," a security source said. Nagaland's northernmost district of Mon is strategically located with Assam's Sivasagar district on its western border, Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh on its north, Myanmar on its eastern

AGArTALA, MAy 9 (IANS): Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has thanked Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar for backing the India-Bangladesh Land Boundary Agreement (LBA) that the Indian parliament has passed, an official said here on Saturday. "The Bangladesh prime minister on Friday night telephoned the chief minister and thanked him" for backing the LBA, a top Tripura government official told IANS on condition of anonymity. "With the endorsement of the LBA in parliament, India-Bangladesh relations would be strengthen further. Tripura's relations with Bangladesh would get a new high," the official quoted Sarkar as telling Hasina. The chief minister also informed Hasina that the Tripura government is setting up an India-Bangladesh friendship park in the state to commemorate the 1971 Bangladesh liberation war. "The Tripura government would invite the Bangladesh prime minister for the inauguration of the park. Hasina expressed her keenness to visit Tripura again," the official said. Hasina visited Tripura in January 2012. The official said Prime Minister Narendra Modi also telephoned
Sarkar on Thursday and discussed the LBA and "thanked Sarkar for his help". Parliament on May 7 passed a constitution amendment bill for operationalising the LBA with Bangladesh, 41 years after the accord was signed between then prime minister Indira Gandhi and her Bangladeshi counterpart, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The land swap protocol envisages transfer of 111 enclaves with a total area of 17,160.63 acres to Bangladesh, while the neighbouring country is to transfer 51 enclaves with an area of 7,110.02 acres to India. A 6.1-km undefined border stretch will be demarcated with the bill being passed. The 51 enclaves fall in Indian states of West Bengal, Assam, Tripura and Meghalaya. Under the LBA, the disputed Candannagar village would merged with the Indian territory while Muhuri Char land in southern Tripura would go to Bangladesh. "There would be no problem if Tripura's two areas exchanged under the LBA," Tripura Revenue and PWD Minister Badal Chaudhury told reporters. He explained how the people of Belonia (currently south Tripura district headquarters) had suffered since 1965 over the disputed

The victim, Sajohn (30), hailing from the Zeliangrong Naga-dominated district, would campaign in the Haochong area for a Congress candidate. He was kidnapped by unidentified armed men on Wednesday evening, local sources said, and his bullet-riddled body was found at a spot between Ijeirong and Haochong, under Tamenglong PS, on Thursday. His motorcycle was burnt by the suspected militants. An autopsy was conducted on his body at the Imphal-based Jawaharlal
Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences on Friday, police said. No group has claimed responsibility for the incident yet. Political parties have stepped up canvassing for the election to the six hill district councils of Ukhrul, Tamenglong, Chandel, Churachandpur, Senapati and Sadar Hills. Leaders of the ruling Congress have been harping on the threat from militants in the hill districts. The party alleged that threats have been issued to its candidates for the ADC polls. A Congress leader in Tamenglong, however, denied that Sajohn was a Congress worker. He (Sajohn) had defected from an underground outfit and his killing is unrelated to Congress and the ongoing campaign for the ADC polls, the leader added.

Muhuri Char land. "Occasional firing from other side of the border killed some Indian citizens including children and prevented Indian farmers to cultivate in the Muhuri Char land adjoining Belonia town (110 km south of here)," said Chaudhury, who has been representing Belonia for many years. In the Candannagar village, there were 51 families comprising little over 300 people and they except the two families left the village in 2002 after erection of border fencing and living in a near by village inside the fencing. The villagers said they were allowed to cultivate in their deserted lands on the other side of the fencing and Dhalai river but in most times the Bangladeshi people have been taken away their crops. In the disputed 64 acres Muhuri Char land, 57 families had been doing cultivation for more than five decades. There were also three very old crematories of three different religion groups in the Muhuri Char land of Muhuri river, which flows from Tripura to Bangladesh. Tripura shares 856 km borders with Bangladesh and eight major rivers including Muhuri and Dhalai flows from the state to the neighbouring country.

oyota zoomed to a record 2.17 trillion yen ($18.1 billion) profit for the fiscal year through March, up 19 percent from the previous year, buoyed by sales growth in the U.S. and a perk from the cheap yen. Toyota Motor Corp. President Akio Toyoda told reporters Friday the Japanese automaker appeared to be back on track for “sustainable growth,” although the coming year would be a critical test. Looking ahead, the company announced it’s expecting 3.5 percent growth in profit to 2.25 trillion yen ($18.8 billion) for the fiscal year through March 2016. Since Toyoda, the grandson of the automaker’s founder, took the helm in 2009, Toyota has gone through hard times, getting embroiled in a massive recall scandal, mostly in the

U.S. The scandal ballooned to millions of vehicles being recalled for a range of problems, including faulty brakes, sticky gas pedals and defective floor mats. “This year will be deci-
sive in showing whether Toyota can head toward sustainable growth or we will be forced to turn backward,” he said, referring to the recall fiasco and the 2008 financial crisis. Annual sales grew 6
percent to 27.23 trillion yen ($227 billion), although fewer vehicles were sold around the world. Cost cuts and a cheap yen helped. The maker of the Camry sedan and Prius hybrid has been the world’s top-
selling automaker for the last three years in the face of tough competition from Volkswagen AG of Germany and General Motors Co. of the U.S. Since the recalls surfaced, Toyota announced an intentional halt to expansion such as opening new auto-assembly plants and instead focused on cost cuts, quality controls, personnel training and making more of existing plants. That three-year hiatus was lifted only recently. Last month, Toyota announced a new plant in Mexico, with eyes on the lucrative North American market, as well as a plant in China, where despite some bumps, long-term growth potential remains great. Before the scandal, Toyota boasted a reputation for meticulous quality, super-lean production and a management that empowered workers. But it acknowledged that it had
grown too fast. After the scandal, Toyota unveiled TNGA, or Toyota New Global Architecture, which streamlines product development to avoid overlap and encourages shared technology and parts, to reduce waste while being able to adapt to different markets and kinds of buyers. The first products under the architecture will roll out later this year, theoretically boosting profitability. Over the years, Toyota models have been seen as reliable and delivering good mileage, but they have also been seen as bland and unfashionable. For the January-March quarter, Toyota reported a 446.4 billion yen ($3.7 billion) profit, up 50 percent from a year earlier. Last year, Toyota claimed an auto industry milestone by selling more than 10 million vehicles in a year, at 10.23 million vehicles.

New DelhI, MAy 9 (PtI): As net neutrality debate rages on, TRAI today said it does not intend to police the internet but there are three unexceptional principles including ‘no blocking’ which are not debatable. “Anybody in right frame of mind would not try to regulate or police the internet. They would find a way around. But we need to understand that there are certain issues that need to be addressed,” TRAI Chairman Rahul Khullar said while speaking at an event organised by O P Jindal University. He, however, added that there cannot be any debate on three unexceptional principles. “No blocking, transparency and no throttling or degrading adware. There can’t be simply no debate on this.” TRAI has recently floated a consultation paper for regulatory framework on over-thetop (OTT) service like internetbased calling and messaging services and net neutrality. The regulator has received over 10 lakh response on its paper favouring net neutrality which means that no artificial
barrier like slowing down of internet speed or differentiating between services available on internet, especially on payment basis. Khullar said Trai did not issue paper on the matter with intention to regulate internet. “People have confused this idea. I have been in civil services for 40 years and have some sense how public policy is made. We tend to form opinion in advance of facts…which in my view is extremely dangerous,” Khullar said. He said that if telecom companies are going to do traffic management then it should be disclosed to public that they are not abusing authority. An intense debate is going on on net neutrality in the country after telecom major Airtel in December decided to charge separately for VoIP or internet based calls. The debate was triggered after Airtel announced a zero rating platform in April which allows its subscribers freely access applications on its Airtel Zero platform but applications are required to pay certain fee for joining its platform.

lUckNow, MAy 9 (PtI): Many first-time mothers are opting out of jobs to raise children, according to a survey by the Associated Chambers of Commerce (ASSOCHAM). “A growing number of highlyeducated women in urban India are abandoning their professional lives to become full-time mothers as raising children while maintaining a serious career becomes complex,” said the findings of the ASSOCHAM survey. The Social Development Foundation of ASSOCHAM interacted with some 400 new mothers, in the age group of 2530, in 10 cities of Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow and Mumbai to know
their employment decisions post-motherhood. The survey, conducted during March-April this year, found out that about one-fourth of the total women who recently had their first child quit their jobs to raise children. Most of them said they plan to shift their focus back to career after their children start going to school. “However, many of those willing to pursue their career again after a few years of motherhood said they do not want to return to the same job due to fear of discrimination,” it pointed out. A majority of the respondents were highly qualified as most held a master’s degree in various fields but cited conflict of priorities as the primary reason for
them to quit their jobs. “In nuclear families, married women have a tough time balancing work and childcare, especially if they don’t get help from others,” ASSOCHAM Secretary General D S Rawat said. Not wanting to miss out on the growing up moments of their children, many women opted to work from home, which gave them some flexibility to do justice to both. About 30% women in Ahmedabad, Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow and Kolkata quit their jobs after their first child was born, it added. Some 15-20 per cent respondents in Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Indore and Mumbai decided to ship out of their career to look after their wards.

MUMBAI, MAy 9 (ReUteRs): Reliance Industries Ltd’s telecoms unit got an undue benefit of about $530 million after the government allowed it to offer voice services over wireless broadband spectrum it had won in 2010, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) said on Friday. The energy-focused Reliance conglomerate, controlled by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, bought the company now known as Reliance Jio in 2010. It is the only firm in the country to have a licence for pan-India broadband wireless airwaves, though it has yet to start commercial services. However, the CAG said the telecommunications department had allowed the company to migrate from being just an internet service provider to a full services provider at a cost far lower than prevailing market prices. The migration had been allowed at price levels seen in 2001. The government’s lapses resulted “in an undue advantage of 33.67 billion rupees ($528.56 mm)” for the unit “due to non-accounting of time value of migration fees,” the CAG said in a report. The report also noted that roll out obligations had not been met by the winners of the airwaves, even four years after the auction. The company, which is expected to launch services later this year, said that no favours had been given to it and that it had acted in accordance to the regulations.
India’s forex reserves touch new record high MUMBAI, MAy 9 (IANs) Depreciation in dollar value and smart investment moves by the country’s apex bank led India’s foreign exchange reserves to rocket by $7.26 billion and touch a new record high of $351.86 billion. According to the data furnished by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in its weekly statistical supplement, India’s total foreign exchange reserves touched a new record high of $351.86 billion for the week ended May 1, 2015. The new record surpasses the previous high of $344.6 billion touched during the week ended April 24, when the reserves grew by $1.4 billion. The country’s gold reserves also augmented by $297.7 million and stood at $19.33 billion in the week ended May 1. The special drawing rights (SDRs) were up by $57.6 million to $4.06 billion, while the country’s reserve position with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) went up by $18.7 million at $1.31 billion.
You need to take a ‘selfie’ to turn off this alarm clock New DelhI, MAy 9 (IBN-tech): Most of us have a hard time getting up early in the morning. While an alarm set on our phone wakes us up, the snooze feature accompanying it makes it difficult to actually get out of bed. But no worries, anymore. This new app could come to your resuce and can make you move out of your bed as the alarm blares. The Snap Me Up app lets you turn off set alarms only by taking a selfie. Unless you take a clear picture of your face, the alarm will keep beeping, leaving you probably grumpy. “The alarm will not be dismissed until your face is detected on camera and you take a photo of it, so smile and welcome a new day,” says the app maker. Your pictures will be saved into an album called “My sleepy snaps”, where you can view them later DIMAPUR Civil Hospital:

CPO for immediate shifting of DC office to Chümoukedima Dimapur, may 9 (mExN): The people of Chakhroma today appealed to the State chief minister to immediately shift the office of the deputy commissioner, Dimapur from its “temporary camp” to its headquarters in Chümoukedima. In an open letter to Chief Minister TR Zeliang, Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO) through its general secretary, Vichütuolie Mere and president, P Beituo Hama reminded that in 1997, the State government decided to establish the Dimapur district deputy commissioner’s headquarters in Chümoukedima However, till date the deputy commissioner is functioning from a camp in Dimapur town which was previously the office of additional deputy commissioner's, it lamented. The letter stated that the State government has spent huge amount of money in procuring land and constructing buildings and roads in Chürnoukedima for the establishment of Dimapur district administrative headquarters. The government has already constructed the district headquarters in two different locations in Chümoukedima, it said. The first site measuring 300 acres was abandoned by the government after all infrastructures were developed. Even in the second location, which has an area of more than 100 acres of land, all the necessary infrastructures were completed long time back, but till now the deputy
commissioner has not occupied, it added. In light of the above facts, the CPO questioned why the government spent such a huge amount of public money if it is not willing to let the deputy commissioner stay at its designated headquarters. In both the locations, according to the letter, land compensations, construction of buildings, roads and all infrastructure development had cost thousands and thousands of crores of rupees. “That public money could have been used for development of other districts if these developed infrastructures are not to be utilised by the government.” The letter further acknowledged that it was aware right from the beginning that “certain section of people” does not want the deputy commissioner’s office to be shifted to its headquarters. “So, if the government cannot stick to its policies or decisions and controlled by group(s) of people then we do not understand why the government take the public for a ride,” it queried. The CPO suggested that a separate deputy commissioner can be posted for administration to the municipal areas in Dimapur town to coordinate with the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur. Meanwhile, the present deputy commissioner, Dirnapur can have a separate administrative jurisdiction for the villages and few towns in the district from its designated headquarters in Chümoukedima, it added.

NAYO to armed forces: Exercise restraint in public areas Kohima, may 9 (mExN): The Northern Angami Youth Organization (NAYO) today reiterated its earlier appeal to law enforcement agencies stationed in Kohima to exercise restraint in public areas during counter insurgency operations being undertaken following various shooting incidents and spate of bombings in the capital as well as across the State. In a statement, NAYO mentioned that after the breakdown of ceasefire between NSCN (K) and the Government of India, the citizens of the capital have been “gripped under a visible pall of gloom and apprehension in both the urban and rural areas surrounding Kohima.” The situation, it said, has been aggravated by the shooting of unarmed Assam Rifles personnel at
IG stadium and shooting dead of one of its personnel in total disregard to public safety near Classic Island here. While admitting that it is “not competent to comment on the factors responsible for the abrogation of ceasefire and the subsequent resurgence of armed conflict,” NAYO said it is the fervent prayer of the organization and the community it represents that permanent peace is sought and normalcy is restored at the earliest. “That all armed personnel immediately cease confronting each other under the shield of civilians by all means, without any excuses,” it added. NAYO further acknowledged the control displayed by the Assam Rifles on May 8, where two Nagas reported to be from the NSCN (K) were appre-

The “superfluous act” of Assam Rifles, the union said, is “nothing sort of harassment” as no suspicious or illegal possessions was found at Kilonser Yimto’s private residence. Further, the YUD appealed to all concerned to abide and adhere to the ceasefire ground rules so as to maintain trust and peace in the region.

phEK, may 9 (mExN): To express resentment over non inclusion of single Chakhesang representative in the State cabinet, the party workers of NPF Phek division had restricted their MLAs to participate in the swearing in ceremony held on May 8. A press statement from NPF Phek division advisors Vehushu Medeo, Vesayo Puro, and Welo noted that Phek district has often been described as regional party bastion and true to the description, the regional party (NPF) candidates have always been elected to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly with overwhelming majority in successive elections. The Chakhesang elected representatives have always been part and parcel of the decision making processes in successive governments and the same was expected in the formation of the present government, the release said. “However, to our utter surprise, the Chakhesang have not been included in the Cabinet and resultantly our party men and women have restricted our representatives to participate in the swearing in ceremonies held on May 8 to register our resentment,” it added. Nevertheless, the division assured that its loyalty with the party and government continues to be steadfast and unwavering.

other’s Day is upon us once again, a day to honor the most important person in our lives, the one who gave us birth, brought us through infancy, celebrated each milestone, answered our questions, put up with our misdeeds, and through it all gave us love. Today is a day where sons and daughters throughout the world make up for the other 365 days where we either give our Mothers sleepless nights of worry and indigestion for our recklessness. It also gives us a chance to reflect on the impact our mothers have in our lives, our personalities and all that we are. On this Mothers Day, I share the thoughts of the sons and daughters who is everything he or she is because of the love, care and wisdom provided by a mother. How fitting, how beautiful, that a day should be set aside to do honour to that vast army of delicate soldiers, infinitely greater in numbers than the men who fought in the Great War, that numberless host whose sentinel watch is never done, whose arms are never laid down, whose warfare permits of no discharge, and in which there is never a truce until they fall on the field of battle -- the great army of mothers. As I ponder about mothers, I am not only humbled (and shamed) by mothers who have shaped us by their acts of love and selflessness. I learned that our fellow man needs our compassion and our assistance, but I also learned that personal (and family) salvation will only come through thrift and effort. An effort that I’m ashamed to say I didn’t always appreciate in my youth. On this Mothers Day of 2015, I give thanks and gratitude to you, Mom, for all you’ve done to shape my life and views. While you pressed and challenged me, you allowed me to be me. We hail them today and do them honour. They are a sacrificial host, the great givers and sufferers of the race. We never see a strong man striding forth in his strength for whom some mother has not suffered and given of her strength. We never see a blooming girl with rosy cheeks and laughing eyes and bewitching curls for whom some mother has not gradually faded and given of her own bloom and beauty and youth. They bleed that we may be blessed; they keep watch that we may take rest and sleep; they suffer and die that we may live. Our mothers are our comforters in sorrow and the healers of our hearts when we are hurt. When the little child cries with loneliness in the dark and still night, and sobs and moans, and reaches out little hands and arms, it is for mother. When it
is hurt it runs to mother and finds in her kiss its balm, and in the warmth and tenderness of her encircling arms its comfort for all fear and grief, and healing for every wound. When the big, foolish, awkward boy has a problem that perplexes, a hunger to satisfy, a shame to confess, or a triumph to announce, he goes to mother, for she will understand. When the strong man is wearied by the toil and strife of life and his heart is harassed by uncertainties and doubt, he turns to mother. And when at last death wrestles with a man and tightens its icy fingers upon him, and mocks him and claims him for its own as his strength fails, how often his thoughts turn to mother! Here is the might and the responsibility of a mother. She can hold her children to goodness and God, not by force, but by affection, not by the compulsion of command, but by the compulsion of high and holy character. It is religion pure and undefiled that crowns motherhood. The glory of a mother is the glory of sacrifice. And of unfailing patience. Oh, the patience of mothers! It is the glory of unwavering faith and undying hope, of self forgetful unselfishness, of love that never fails. You can never wear it out, but a mother’slove is strong; It will live through sin and shame, hurt and cruel wrong; Even though the world revile and your friendships die, Though your hands be black with sin, she will hear your cry, and she’ll love you and forgive. Such is the glory of all true mothers, and for them we give praise to God, and to them we give the tribute of our reverence and tenderest affection. The bravest battles that were ever fought, Shall I tell you where and when? On the maps of the world you'll not find them. But deep in a walled-up woman's heart, a woman that would not yield, but bravely and silently bore her part in the battlefield. No marshalling of troops, no patriotic songs, no banners to gleam and wave. But Oh! these battles they last so long - From babyhood to the grave. When a mother is cherished, she is the sparkle in her children’s eyes. When a mother disciplines, it pains her heart. When a mother loves, she loves unconditionally. This Mother’s Day is an opportunity to express that love back to her. Sons and daughters buy greeting cards to express their love for their moms. Families go out for dinner, husbands fix breakfast, and young children create something special for their mom. It’s a time of celebration, a time of honor, and time for family love. On Mother's Day this year, I remember the big, amazing picture of moms. And maybe you don't have a life that is perfect and you don't get to do all the things that you think others get to do on Mother's
Day, or maybe you don't even get a card. Maybe you feel like you give and give but all you do is lost or not appreciated and all you would love is a small bouquet of flowers. Maybe sometimes you don't like being a mom or don't feel like you do it well or just are worn. Maybe you are really looking forward to ripping that page off the calendar and just moving up. You know what? It's not fair that this day can hurt. And I am sorry. I guess today, I just want to remember you and to thank you for all that you do. Which is why I write about joy, and finding joy, and you, the brave mother in this world. I stand up and applaud you for those days. For fighting and moving forward and for being mom. It's that deep hope that we have in us that makes us press on to the next day and do the next thing and to see the beauty in life even when it isn't perfect. Hope is powerful. Being a mom isn't about those grandiose moments and one day of the year where the world pauses and sells cards and flowers. It's about those little things that are the amazing things. It's about tenacity and spunk and inhaling deep and moving on. Those are the things that I celebrate. Thank you. Thank you for getting up, cooking meals, paying bills, buttoning shirts, combing hair, checking homework, reading stories, picking up toys, wiping noses and faces, playing, praying, scrubbing dishes, tucking in, folding socks, breaking up fights, opening slammed doors, listening to whines, sighing but smiling, being a friend and the other million times infinity amazing things that moms do. I remember you. I remember you today, tomorrow, on Mother's Day and then on Monday of next week when you press on again. And to you, today, I give thanks. Thank you, moms whose lives aren't perfect but just keep on going. Thank you, moms whose Mother's Day doesn't look like what they imagined. Thank you, moms in those calm places in life. Thank you, moms. Thank you for giving of your life and for loving those children and for pulling up your socks and looking for the little things in life to love. Thank you. Simply, thank you. I would also like to take this opportunity to celebrate and wish the mothers of special children — handicapped children. These women will no doubt receive greater rewards in heaven because of the sacrifices they have made through the years. They have to be more patient and committed to deeper love and perseverance than many other moms (although being a mom is always a challenge and privilege). These moms have seen their children taunted and treated badly. They

ast Mother’s Day, I was nine months pregnant. While my friends and family loved texting me various emoji that day, I had vowed not to celebrate at all. I wanted to live up my status as a non-mom for as long as I could, explaining to my partner, Dustin, that I would be a mother for the rest of my life — the rest of my life! — so I should enjoy my last chance not being one. Probably I was just in denial. A year later, and here I am: my first Mother’s Day in a lifetime of Mother’s Days. The hope of “setting the tone” is still there. The pressure is on (Dustin). As with all of parenting, in ways both foolish and beautiful, we must reinvent the wheel. This year, we look at each other across the dinner table and wonder what the hell we should do. “Do you spend the day with your child,” Dustin mused, “because you love him and that’s what the day is about, or do you spend the day away from your child, because —” “Yeah, I have no idea!” I said, cutting him off, laughing. “What do people do?” I was laughing because I hadn’t even considered spending the day with my family. I heard "your special day" on the radio and starting making plans: yoga? A movie? Reading in the park? Now that he mentioned it, though, I did kind of like them in short bursts. Plus, that’s what people do, right? They go to church or to brunch or both. They take photos, Mom puts her feet up and takes a nap, and Dad tries to cook dinner for the first time all year. But Dustin cooks plenty and we don’t go to church ever, and as someone’s daughter, mere mention of the day makes me feel guilty and then avoidant. It fills me with shoulds. I should send my mom flowers. Or bake her something and mail it to her. I should buy her a necklace and bake her banana bread and have flowers delivered to her. Some better version of me would do all these things. This will be my son one day, I’m sure. Or, I’m sure intellectually even if I haven’t really accepted it yet. My son will feel all the complicated feelings (mostly guilt-related) that I feel for my own mother, for me. My family growing up always sat in that (largely Catholic) part of the Venn diagram where we’re unable to express our feelings but also very sensitive and easily offended; we procrastinate, but we also take things personally; we say we’re chill, laid-back, who cares, it’s just a holiday, then that holiday rolls around and we end up, or I end up, crying in the shower because my family will never understand me, or doesn’t care enough to plan ahead. Holidays, growing up, were for making cynical jokes about the hell of it all. We laughed a lot! We always tried. But we were dismissive, and we weren't posing for any Christmas card photos. Having a little family of my own, with someone who has none of this baggage, has been a new start. I still have all the sensitivity and pridefulness of my childhood, but something about new
love and a blank slate has made me unabashedly sincere and hopeful that we’ll keep it up. We do make cookies, we do buy Christmas trees, we do write each other long letters, and make each other cards. We dye eggs. We make cakes. We have dinner parties. We put off planning these things and then we get pissed at each other and stressed out sometimes, but we know ourselves well enough to know that celebrating made-up days and being sentimental is a great benefit of having a family and of being in love. My son is 11 months old, which means that if you ask him to give you a kiss he leans toward you with his mouth open, and he does something close to hugging my neck when the mood strikes him (often). He says, “mamamamamamamamama” when he’s reminded that’s who I am, usually when I’m walking away from him to use the bathroom or when his dad is taking him to bed, and he’s mad about it. If he’s very tired, he lies his head down on my shoulder and the perfect weight of him makes me sway without thinking. If you ask him where his toes are, he will tell you. If you show him a duck, he’ll quack. A cow, and he’ll moo. He knows nothing, yet, of obligation or sentimentality. Next year maybe he will give me a finger painting, something the women at day care sat him down to do. He has yet to thank me for bringing him into the world or blame me for it. He has never drawn me a picture, or drawn anything. He tries to eat flowers. He doesn’t know what lotion is, or candles, or bubble bath, or whatever else you are supposed to give women as gifts. In the end I’m sure we will re-arrive at everything the holiday connotes: breakfast in bed, the partner panicking and buying something sentimental at the last minute, a break from doing the dishes. Not that I don’t want all that; I am not an accelerationist when it comes to motherhood (treat us as shitty as you really see us, and then soon we will revolt!), and I am newly passionate about the kinds of things you see rounded up on lifestyle gift guides. Shower me with blankets and lip balm! A candle for each hour of labor! A dish towel for every party I’ve missed out on, every friend I’ve lost, every gig I haven’t had time for! Don’t get me wrong, the sentimentalization of motherhood as a stand-in for actually valuing and supporting mothers is horse shit. Give me free day care over flowers and a finger-painted card any day. But I am certainly going to milk this day for all it’s worth. Because anyway the mugs are, now that I think about it, hilarious and cute. My child’s hands won’t always be so small. The days are long. Fuck doing the dishes. And who doesn’t love being served food where you sleep? So we will do something nice together and I will get some time to myself that day and my mom and sister will text me and ask me what I did for Mother’s Day. I will say I had breakfast in bed. I will show them a photo of a card. I will say we had such a nice day. And we probably will.
have also had to make difficult decisions about where their children will best be able to develop the resources they have been given and become as self-sufficient as possible. If they choose a group home, they must ask themselves, “Will the caretakers be kind to the children or abuse them?” The annual observance of Mother’s Day can be special and festive but for many that have lost their moms; it can bring painful memories. This may be the first Mother’s Day without their mom. When someone loses a mother, it does’nt matter how old you are. You still feel like an orphan because you have lost your guiding star. It was easy to take her for granted because you knew she’d always be there. Until the day that she was’nt. And you discovered life truly was not fair. So, each Mother’s Day take a moment to remember the best things about her…. like her gentle hands and open arms and how close the two of you were. And you can be sure she’s in heaven thinking of you on this day above any other. For a widower with children, let him know you realize that Mother’s Day will be difficult without his spouse. He’s now handling all the responsibilities of both father and mother. Remember, he’s still grieving the loss of the mother of his children and he’s facing the lifelong pain of helping his children (no matter their ages) as they grieve their mom’s absence. The sadness always exists, simmering below calm exteriors even when time and “healing” have taken place. A mother’s love is precious. For they love with everything they got. This unconditional love says I love you no matter what. For a mother holds the hand of her child for a little while, but she holds onto their hearts forever. As Abraham Lincoln quotes, “I remember my mother's prayers, and they have followed me; they have clung to me all my life. All that I am and hope to be I owe to my angel mother," When a Mother dies, a piece of childhood dies too. With heavy hearts, Mothers day can be a day filled with sadness. If Roses Grow in Heaven is a beautifully touching poem for remembering a mother who has passed away. The author of this precious poem is unknown. If Roses grow in Heaven, Lord please pick a bunch for me, Place them in my Mother's arms and tell her they're from me. Tell her I love her and miss her, and when she turns to smile, place a kiss upon her cheek and hold her for awhile. Because remembering her is easy, I do it every day, but there's an ache within my heart that will never go away

Happy Mother's day Greetings
rom the Word of God, we see that women play vital roles in God's plans. Whether it be giving up a son for His purposes (Hannah), or trusting, Him in an alien environment (Ruth), or risking their life for His people (Esther), or being the first contact for establishing the church in a new land (Lydia), women are vitally important to His Kingdom. Women are born to nurture; they are dependable and less egotistical; therefore, these traits enable them to perform decisive tasks in any team. Thus none can minimize what women can impart both in personal and family life, church and community life, or national and international events. Nowhere is a woman as important as in carrying the burden of prayer before God. In the home, church and nation, these often unseen spiritual warriors bear the brunt of standing in the gap in prayer. Women are great intercessors because their motive is always the good of others. God is using women in prayer for heralding revival in different parts of the world. India needs revival, and we plead with the women in our churches to take up this cause and pray through until all of India knows Jesus. When Jesus rose from the dead, He revealed himself first to Mary Magdalene. Because she sought Him with a heart filled with passionate longing, Jesus revealed His victory over death through her. He also used her to give His followers hope. When women of the church pray, apostles and other ministries of God are strengthened and anointed. This can result in many souls being added to His Kingdom. Have a blessed Mother's Day celebration with the anointing of Holy's Spirit. Love of my life, my sweet mom
ello, Friends; here is something very special I would like to share with you. It's about my mom whom I love very much and I know she loves me too. Every morning when I see her, I feel the warmth and my day is made complete. I always think of her wherever I am, the times we spend together, reminiscing the moments when she held my hand with her warm and cushiony palms. We were together most of the time but there were also limes when she had to be away because she had work to do and I would always miss her. She is someone who gives me strength to carry on when times are bad and encourages me when things don't work out quite so well. I can't imagine my life without my Mom because she has always been there for me both through good and bad times. My Mom is someone who is very dear to me and holds the most special place in my heart, her love for me is unconditional, and she believes in me in the most complicated situations. Time has tested our relationship but we made through no matter how tough it were because our bond was a ship sailed by love, navigated by trust and hope and anchored by faith. Our relationship will never sink. She has been the greatest thing that has ever happened to me and the source of my strength is her and I will love her fill the end of the world because she is the reason why I am here today my one and only beloved 'Mother.' I love you Mom.
a Mother's day... when mother is gone Rare Rose (a Tribute)

Hope Edelman ope Edelman says mourning is a lifelong process, especially for those who lost their mothers when they were young children. I was 17 when my mother died of breast cancer. She was 42. It seemed old to me then. As a middle-aged mother myself now, I see it differently. Forty-two was impossibly young. I've spent more than half my life without my mother. Does it sound odd to hear that I still miss her, even after 33 years? I used to think that feeling sad two years, five years, even 10 years after her death meant I'd somehow grieved wrong. But now I know differently. Mourning is a lifelong process, especially for children who lose a mother young. When a child loses a mother, maturity often follows quickly. "Normal" is irrevocably redefined. Over the years, milestones that bring joy to others may trigger a range of mixed emotions in the motherless. Graduations, weddings, childbirth, new jobs: These are all times of transition when we long for a mother's support, encouragement or celebration. But when we look over our shoulders for reassurance, a mother isn't there. This can lead to a new mourning cycle, where the pain feels fresh and raw. It explains why, upon the birth of my first child, I was relieved to have a healthy child, overjoyed to have a daughter; and also terribly, terribly sad, because my mother would never meet her. Some transitions are one-time events, like reaching a mother's age at time of death. This is a profound turning point for a motherless woman, who often carries the fear that she'll die at the same age. Forty-two was an emotionally charged year for me, but 43 was even stranger. I'm now seven years older than my mother got to be. How does an adult daughter even begin to make sense of that? In the 20 years since the publication of "Motherless Daughters" I've met thousands of motherless women, all around the globe. Many of them have found mother substitutes in grandmothers, aunts, sisters or good friends. That was never true for me. My greatest source
H
of comfort has come from other women like myself. We "get" each other, right away. We cry in the back of school concerts because we're equally proud and sad. We raise our children to be independent just in case we, too, die young. And we understand, whether we're mothers or not, how Mother's Day weekend can be a double-edged sword. Motherless women -- as well as daughters who have estranged or difficult relationships with their mothers -- really have no culturally sanctioned way to recognize their mothers on Mother's Day. So we're free to create our own. Here are some ideas from two decades of interviews with motherless women and 33 years of spending Mother's Day without my own: Attend a local Motherless Daughters Day luncheon. More than two dozen groups of women throughout the country, from Orange County, California, to Chicago to New Orleans plan luncheons on the day before Mother's Day (or soon after) to honor mothers no longer living. During a Circle of Remembrance women say their names and their mothers' names out loud. Make your mother part of the day. If she liked to cook, make one of her recipes. Put her picture on your mantel. Tell your children or nieces and nephews a story about her. Recognizing her will feel better than trying to push the memory away. If you have a strained or nonexistent relationship with your mother, use the day to celebrate life instead, in honor of the life she gave you. Get your hands into the earth and plant seedlings. Volunteer at an animal shelter. Do what nurtures and inspires you most. This year marks the 100th anniversary of Mother's Day as an official, national holiday. Let's remember, too, Anna Jarvis, the woman responsible for lobbying President Wilson to create the national holiday -- and herself a motherless daughter. I'll be celebrating the same as usual: having brunch with my husband and daughters, enjoying a low-key afternoon at home and searching for a way to honor my mother, as I've done every Mother's Day since 1982, the first I spent without her.

y heart and mind like a memory book, unfolding vivid memories of passing years; Sure, you nourished me in yourself throughout odd days and nights with labour to breathe life in me. Your wings so protective that sheltered me from all cruel designs of life; Two bright eyes and a tender smile with no hands so soft and gentle was the guide and inspiration as I grew; You only are the real tutor who has instilled in me the spirit of ideal roles; But the cruel hands of mortality crept within and stole you away in the absence of my sight. Alas! As life journey to sunset meant for everyone, you now rest by the side of our daddy. Painfully I wish, If roses grew in heaven, I would pluck the best for you, my DEAREST MOM... he air is pregnant with possibility—can you feel it? Heaven itself is longing to invade the natural realm. Darkness may cover the earth, but God's glory upon His people is becoming more and more realized, bringing hope to the most hopeless situations. God is opening up His treasure house of truth and releasing it all over mankind in remarkable ways. The apostle Paul's prayer is being answered before our eyes: "I do not cease giving thanks for you, mentioning you in my prayers, so that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him" (Eph. 1:16-17). It is a day of divine encounters, at least for those who will pursue what this revelation is making available. The spirit of wisdom and revelation is not given to make us smarter but to make us more aware of unseen realities. It works not merely to increase our understanding of kingdom principles but also to reveal the King Himself. Presence always wins out over principles. A Heart to Seek God The heart to seek God is birthed in us by God Himself. Like all desires, it is not something that can be legislated or forced, but rather it grows within us as we become exposed to God's nature. He creates an appetite in us for Himself by lavishing us with the reality of His goodness—His irresistible glory. The realities of His goodness burn deeply into the hearts of all who simply take the time to behold Him. Paul describes this place of beholding as the absolute center of the new covenant we have been brought into, the place where "we all, seeing the glory of the Lord with unveiled faces, as in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Cor. 3:18). The impulse that drives the life of the believer isn't the need to perform for God but to commune with Him. Only when we perceive the face of the One in whose image we were made do we come to know who we are and the One for whom we were made. And because of who He is, to behold Him and remain unchanged is impossible. The truth is that the degree to which we perceive the face of God corresponds directly to the degree of our yieldedness to the transforming work of the Holy Spirit into the image of Christ. The question for every believer is whether we will be satisfied with only a partial transformation or whether we will be so captivated by who He is that we will allow Him to kill everything in us that would inhibit us from becoming a mature manifestation of Christ. This quest for His face is the ultimate quest. But to embrace the quest for the face

Going face to face with God of God, one must be ready to die. Thus, this quest is not a journey for the faint of heart. Still, I hesitate to warn of the cost of fully seeking His face—not because a price doesn't exist; it costs everything. I hesitate because the reality is that what a person gets in return makes the price we pay embarrassingly small by comparison. The bottom line is that we give all of ourselves to obtain all of Him. There's never been a better deal. When we go through with the exchange, we find that what used to matter doesn't anymore. Not only does everything in our lives that is inconsistent with the kingdom of God start to die the moment we encounter Him, but the superior, supernatural reality of His kingdom starts to come alive in us. This journey is so sacred, so all-consuming, that very few respond to its call. Many things work to stifle the desire in us to seek the face of the One in whose image we were created. Whether we are overwhelmed by secular reasoning or religious disappointment, such forces cause us to abandon the ultimate quest and give in to the other impulse that has infected man since the Fall— the impulse to hide from God. Still, the ultimate quest is quite doable and within reach. Every other journey and every other ambition pale in comparison. One might say this one challenge adds meaning and definition to all of life's other pursuits. Those who respond to the invitation find little else to live for. Those who say no spend their lives looking for an adequate replacement. And there is none to be found anywhere. My Quest for the Face of God The quest for deep encounters with God started the moment I said yes to His call on my life. My moment happened one Sunday in 1971 when my dad, who was also my pastor, taught a message from Ezekiel 44 about the greatest honor given to mankind—our ministry to the Lord Himself in thanksgiving, praise and worship. He taught us that there was a difference between our ministry to God and our ministry to people. There was no doubt that our ministry to God was the most important responsibility of all, and it was available to every believer. As I heard him teach the Word, I was stirred beyond anything I had ever felt before. From the pew where I sat, I bowed my head and said, "Heavenly Father, I give You the rest of my life to teach me this one thing." To say I was moved was a great understatement. I had already given my life to
Bill Johnson Christ in a way where I held nothing back. But I was now saying that in my surrender to Christ I had one specific agenda that outweighed every other—my ministry to the Lord Himself. The Lord responded quickly to my lifestyle of abandonment to His presence by confirming, through unfolding revelation, that this was indeed the purpose for which He had made and redeemed me. Scripture is saturated with the theme that we were made for a relationship that allows us to know by experience the supernatural God who created us, and it soon became evident to me that the encounters that God had with people in the Bible were not reserved only for those of that era. Encounters of that magnitude actually started to look possible, even probable again. While I never thought I qualified for anything extraordinary, I knew that He loved me, and I in turn was increasingly hungry for Him. The Journey Accelerates I have traveled to many cities where God was visiting in unusual and notable ways in my personal quest for increased power and anointing in my life. Some of my brothers and sisters belittle such pursuits, saying, "Signs and wonders are supposed to follow you, not you follow them." My perspective is a bit different: If they're not following you, follow them until they follow you. God has used my experiences in such places to set me up for life-changing encounters at home. After one such trip in 1995, I began to cry out to God day and night for about eight months. My prayer was, "God, I want more of You at any cost! I will pay any price!" Then, one night in October, God came in answer to my prayer, but not in a way I had expected. I went from being in a dead sleep to being wide awake in a moment. Unexplainable power began to pulsate through my body. An extremely powerful being seemed to have entered the room, and I could not function in His presence. My arms and legs shot out in silent explosions as this power was released through my hands and feet. The more I tried to stop it, the worse it got. I heard no voice, nor did I have any visions. This was the most overwhelming experience of my life. It was raw power. It was God. He had come in response to the prayer I had been praying.
As I lay there, I wondered if these experiences would continue and, if so, if they would strike at undesirable moments. I had a mental picture of myself standing before my congregation, teaching from God's Word as I loved to do, but with my arms and legs flailing about as though I had serious physical and emotional problems. Then I saw myself walking down the main street of our town in front of my favorite restaurant in the same condition. I didn't know anyone who would believe that this was from God. But then I recalled Jacob and his encounter with the angel of the Lord, where he wrestled with Him throughout the night. He limped for the rest of his life after his meeting with God. And then there was Mary, the mother of Jesus. She had an experience with God that not even her fiancé believed was true. It took a visit from an angel to help him change his mind. As a result, she bore the Christ child—although she bore a stigma for the remainder of her days as the mother of an illegitimate child. Tears began to soak my pillowcase as He reminded me of my prayers over the previous months, contrasting them with the scenes that had just passed through my mind. I was gripped by the realization that God wanted to make an exchange—an increased manifestation of His presence in exchange for my dignity and reputation. After all, I had prayed, "at any cost." Trading anything for more of God really is the greatest deal ever offered to mankind. What could I possibly have that would equal His value? Divine Encounters In 1996, I became the pastor of Bethel Church in Redding, California. I was invited to take that position because the church had been crying out for revival. The church I had been pastoring in Weaverville, California, was experiencing a wonderful outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Bethel was the "mother church" of our church and because of that connection I was glad to accept their invitation to be their senior pastor. When I first spoke to Bethel's congregation, I told them that I was born for revival. I said that if they didn't want the move of the Spirit of God—along with the messes that come with it—they didn't want me, because revival is not negotiable! They responded positively with close to unanimous support, which was unusual for such a large church. The outpouring began within a month of our arrival. Lives were changed, bodies were healed, and divine encounters increased in
amazing proportions. On top of that, approximately 1,000 people left the church. This wasn't the kind of revival they wanted. Because of the grace given to us, not one day was spent in discouragement or questioning God. His will truly strengthened and nourished us. Plus, His presence was the reward. The public criticisms and slander, the humiliation of decreased numbers, the daily calls of complaint to our denomination for close to a year—none of it had teeth to its bite. The need for respectability had all but disappeared on the night of my first visitation. We didn't need people's approval when God gave us His. The fruit of this move of God was undeniable, including an increase of His presence along with the bounty of transformed lives. That was all we needed to make us smile in the face of such apparent loss. To this day we consider that time of our greatest loss as one of the most precious and delightful seasons of our lives. The Signs of His Favor When God invades a person's life, things change. Not only that, but the impact of that life on the world also changes. The measure of God's glory that rests upon a life following these unusual divine encounters affects every person we touch. The supernatural becomes natural as God takes center stage in the places where we have influence. When His glory is present, the things that we used to work hard for, such as miracles of healing and transformation in people's personal lives and families, come with little or no effort. Scripture describes those individuals whose lives are marked by the power and blessing of the living God as those upon whom God's face shines. God's countenance is toward His people, and the result is that their lives are marked by His favor. As Proverbs states: "In the light of the king's countenance is life, and his favor is as a cloud of the latter rain" (16:15). Now is the season when all who confess Christ must give attention to the role of the favor of God in our lives. Bill Johnson is the senior pastor of Bethel Church in Redding, California. He and his wife, Beni, have networked with a number of churches, crossing denominational lines, to bring revival and build relationships among church leaders. He is a soughtafter international conference speaker and regularly conducts conferences with wellknown speakers such as Mike Bickle and Randy Clark. He is the author of several books, including The Supernatural Power of a Transformed Mind and When Heaven Invades Earth. The blessing of a praying parent A Mother’s Day Message I Charles Stanley

annah experienced great sorrow prior to the birth of her son Samuel. Through that difficult time, however, she demonstrated a strong love for the Lord and a dependence on Him through prayer. Samuel had a mother who loved God deeply. In fact, Hannah saw herself as the Lord's handmaid, whose life was in service to Him (1 Samuel 1:11 KJV). Even when her misery was overwhelming, she acknowledged how important He was to
her, and she modeled a godly lifestyle. We are commanded to love the Lord with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mark 12:30) and to give Him first place in our life (Deuteronomy 5:7). If we love God, we will make sure our children know about Him and understand the importance of a relationship with Him through Christ. Our lives, though flawed, will reveal the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. Samuel was blessed because Hannah was a woman of prayer. After telling of her petition, which stemmed from misery, Scripture records her declaration of
praise, which came from a heart rejoicing over God's answer to her cries. A praying mother gives high priority to bringing family concerns before the Lord. I remember my mom kneeling with me by my bed to pray. I can still recall the phrases she used and the things she talked over with Him. Children need committed parents who 1) demonstrate love toward both the family and God, and 2) help them experience the power and joy of prayer (James 5:16). Even one parent can make a powerful difference when Christ is the center of the home. I know my mother did.
Leading in an era with short shelf-life songs Jamie Brown hings are not as simple for worship leaders/church music directors as they used to be. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it’s certainly a more complicated thing. There are now more songs to choose from than ever, at an increasingly rapid speed, coming from big publishers, independent artists, local churches, Christian radio, social media feeds, conferences, carrier pigeons, and their distant relatives, hipsters. Just when we’ve gotten a handle on introducing a new song to our congregation that was written in 2012, a newer new song comes along that’s even newer, making the new song we thought was new feel pretty old. Confused? You should be. Studio albums. Live albums. EPs. Singles. Free downloads. Deluxe versions. Acoustic versions. Recorded on a beach versions. Recorded on top of a mountain versions. A lot of it is really good stuff! A lot of it is not-so-good stuff … And when you add it all together, it’s just a lot of new stuff to sort through, even if you had nothing else to do all week long than listen to all the new stuff. And even then you’d be outof-touch if you took a few weeks off. In the ancient past, known as the “1990s,” when a “new” song really caught on, like “Open the Eyes of My Heart, Lord” or “Shout to the Lord,” that new song (for better or worse…) stuck around in a church’s repertoire for a substantial period of time, even until present-day. Nowadays, in the era of worship song abundance (again, not a bad thing, just a more complicated thing), when a new song catches on, it might disappear several months later when new crop of new songs come on the scene. What’s the result? Two things are happening: First, worship leaders are overwhelmed and inundated, possibly discouraged that they can’t keep up, and
T
either resisting or succumbing to the pressure and marketing that screams at them to stay relevant. Second, congregations are being asked to learn more new songs than they can handle, aren’t given the opportunity to sing these new songs for years and years, are being fed songs that might not be particularly nourishing. (Big caveat : not every new song should have “lasting power”. Some new songs will last for centuries to come. Some will (and should) be retired after a season. This is OK. We know that the New Testament church sang “psalms, hymns and spiritual songs” (Colossians 3:16). We have many of those still today (i.e. the Psalms). But others have fallen away. So, some songs were good enough for the Apostles themselves to sing for a season before being retired. So we should be OK with singing songs that won’t necessarily be sung hundreds of years from now. We just have to be careful to keep our repertoire in a healthy balance. Caveat over.) Because of the increasingly short shelflife of modern worship music, worship leaders should make sure we: Stay mindful of what’s out there Don’t bury yourself in a cave of stuffyou-like-that-you’ve-used-before. Be willing to listen to new music, and incorporate what will work in your context. Don’t stress out about keeping up with it all It’s simply impossible, unless you have tons of time, to keep up with all the new stuff that’s out there. Be OK with being a late adopter It’s amazing how waiting a few years will allow the very best of the new stuff to rise to the top of the pile. Have high standards Biblical faithfulness, theological correctness, gospel centeredness, musical
richness and congregational accessibility are the five big boxes you should be able to check. If a new song is really popular but doesn’t check all five of those boxes, then maybe you shouldn’t use it. Distinguish between usefulnesses Of all the thousands of new songs that will be written this year, maybe just five of those should find their way on to your congregation’s lips. The other songs might be all be wonderful, but it doesn’t mean they’re useful for incorporation into your church’s repertoire. Choose songs for the congregation you have Certain songs will work well in big churches with big bands but flop in smaller churches with smaller bands. And likewise, certain songs will work well in your local context that no one else has ever heard of before! You have to be willing to put blinders on when choosing songs for your congregation, and choose what serves them the best. Build a solid repertoire – not a cool playlist A congregation will sing with confidence when they know the songs. A congregation will sing with timidity when they don’t. A solid repertoire cultivates congregational confidence. An ever-changing (but cool!) playlist cultivates insecurity. Focus primarily on helping people exalt Jesus in song, and let the copyright dates take a back seat. Things aren’t as simple as they used to be, and this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. We have more resources to draw from than ever to help our congregations worship God in song. May we think wisely, pastorally and discerningly as we adjust to the shortening shelf-life of what’s being produced, and remain faithful to proclaim the never-changing, always-relevant Good News. Jamie Brown is the Director of Worship and Arts at Truro Anglican Church in Fairfax, VA.
Selie Visa n most countries of the world Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May every year. Many people credit Anna M. Jarvis (1864-1948) with originating the Mother's Day holiday in the United States. Ms. Jarvis was never married and was extremely attached to her mother, Anna Reese Jarvis, who was a Sunday school teacher for Andrews Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia. The first celebration of Mother's Day was on May 10, 1908. Ceremonies occurred at churches in Grafton, West Virginia, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as per Anna's request. Anna M. provided carnations (her mother's favorite flower) at those services. She chose white carnations to represent the sweetness, purity, and endurance of a mother's love. Later on wearing a white carnation is to honor a deceased mother, wearing a red carnation is to honor a living mother. Since 1908 however Mother's Day has had a rocky existence. Mother's day became truly popular. It was so popular that some decided to cash in on its popularity. By 1923 Anna Jarvis found herself suing to stop a Mother’s Day festival. Later she was arrested for disturbing the peace at a Mother’s Day convention. She was angry that the white carnations, which she had designated as the official Mother’s Day flower, were being sold. She said, "I wanted it to be a day of sentiment, not profit." People are so loyal to their mothers, because a mother's love is so great. Consider what mothers go through. First there is childbirth. That is no picnic. Now that men are in the delivery room more and more we are beginning to respect what women go through. After the child is born most of the work of child rearing falls on the mothers. A mother's love is so exceptional that it is in a category by itself. It is a degree of love that is only fully expressed by the love of a mother. It is the kind of love that persists no matter what wrong is done to it. Jesus told us to call God "Father," but God's love is much like a mother's love. The Bible is full of examples of God's motherly love. God is constantly feeding and nurturing his children. God is the one who gave us life, who breathed us into existence, just as our mothers birthed us into this world. And God is constantly giving for our benefit. And God hurts when we walk away and reject his love. The image of God as Shepherd is a good example of God’s motherly love. God cares for us as a good shepherd. God provides for our every need. God takes us to green pastures and leads us beside still waters. And God protects us from wild animals that would devour us. When others would flee, God remains steadfast. Of course God's love is greater than any love a human can produce. A mother’s love is only an analogy that helps us understand God's love. It helps us understand how loving and giving God's love is. When Jesus was told that his mother and brothers were looking for him, He said, "who
are my brothers and my mother? Those who do the will of my father are my brothers and sisters and mother." We are all children of our Heavenly Father. In this family the older and experienced members have the responsibility of raising and caring for the younger and inexperienced members. In that sense we are all parents to those who are growing in the faith around us. Not just those who are growing physically, but to those who are growing spiritually. In Christ we are all foster fathers and mothers for God's children. As parents we have a responsibility to teach our children the words that God has given us. We are called to teach our children that God is their maker, that Jesus died for their sins, and that the Holy Spirit wants to live in our lives. Motherhood is a joyful thing. Many mothers will testify the joy at the birth or adoption of their children. Many women, some of whom have never had any children of their own, have experienced the joy of mothering children placed in their care. The reality of Motherhood is that along with all the joys and blessings of caring for a child there are also fears. Fears of what the future holds. We live in a society that seems to be getting worse by the hour. We fight against crime and injustice and drugs yet those things seem to be on the rise. All women who have mothered a child feared for that child's future. The Bible has several very important things to say. Jesus knows your suffering. He's been there. Jesus said, "Jerusalem, Jerusalem. How often I have desired to gather your children as a hen gathers her brood"(Matthew 23:37). Out of love Jesus wished to "mother" his father's children but they would not let him. Your worries and fears are sanctified by love. Your suffering is one born of love for your children. God honours the love of mothers just as he honoured the love Jesus had for us as he died on the cross. When you suffer for doing something good you are following in Jesus' footsteps.

India is safe, will remain safe, says Rajnath Singh
New Delhi, May 9 (pTi): Reacting to a CAG report that raised an alarm over Indian Army not having enough ammunition and weapons in case of a intense war, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said, “India is safe and will remain safe”. Earlier on Friday, India's Tejas Light Combat Aircraft project, in the works for over three decades, came under severe criticism from CAG, which said the Mark-I version has several shortcomings and does not meet IAF specifications. The CAG report on ammunition management also pointed that the army faces a massive shortage of ammunition reserves, which would hardly last for 20 days of intense fighting. “Stocking of ammunition even at ‘minimum acceptable risk level’ was not ensured, as availability of ammunition as on March 2013 was below this level in respect of 125 out of a total of 170 types of ammunition,” the report pointed out. Not only that, Indian Air Force (IAF) would be "constrained" to induct the fighter LCA without availability of a trainer model, thereby "adversely impact-
ing pilot training", the audit body said in a report tabled in Parliament. The CAG noted that it was due to the delay in the manufacture and supply of LCA that IAF had to go for alternative temporary measures such as upgrading its MIG BIS, MiG-29, Jaguar, and Mirage aircraft at a cost of Rs. 20,037 crore and revise the phasing out of MiG-21s. Listing the shortcomings, the CAG said that the LCA Mark-I fails to meet the electronic warfare capabilities sought by IAF as the Self-Protection Jammer could not be fitted on the aircraft due to space constraints. Also, it said that the Radar Warning Receiver/ Counter Measure Dispensing System fitted on the aircraft had raised performance concerns, which are yet to be overcome (January 2015). The LCA Mark-I, which got Initial Operational Clearance in December, 2013, significantly falls short (20 permanent waivers/33 temporary concessions) in meeting the Air Staff Requirement (ASR), the CAG said, adding that that has led to reduced operational capabilities and survivability and, conse-
quently, its operational employability. It added that the shortcomings in the Mark-I (increased weight, reduced internal fuel capacity, noncompliance of fuel system protection, pilot protection from front, reduced speed) are expected to be overcome in the Mark-II model. While DRDO has always showcased LCA, christened Tejas, as an indigenouslydeveloped aircraft and the indigenous content of the LCA was estimated by ADA to be 70 per cent, the CAG said it "actually worked out to about 35 per cent" as of January this year. Systems such as Kaveri engine, Multi-Mode Radar, Radome, Multi-Functional Display System and Flight Control System Actuators taken up for indigenous development could not be developed successfully, resulting in LCA's continued dependence on the import of these systems, CAG said. IAF had proposed in the early 1980s that a new aircraft be developed to replace the MiG-21 fleet, manufactured during 1966 and 1987, after its phasing out in the 1990s. The project for indigenous design and development of LCA was sanctioned in 1983 at a cost of
Rs. 560 crore, which was enhanced from time to time up to Rs. 10,397.11 crore. The government in June 1984, constituted an Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) as a dedicated institution for the management of the LCA project. IAF had issued Air Staff Requirement (ASR) in October 1985, envisaging a light-weight multi-mission fighter with contemporary air combat and offensive air support capabilities and excellent manoeuvrability for close air combat at low and medium altitudes. The projected requirement was for 220 Light Combat Aircraft (200 Fighters, 20 trainers) to be inducted by 1994. However, LCA could only achieve Initial Operational Clearance in December 2013, as against the earlier scheduled date of December 2005. The Full Operational Clearance (FOC), which was scheduled to be completed by December 2008, is now slated to be achieved by December this year although experts said even that could be delayed. The CAG added that ADA's decision regarding the advance building of two prototypes from FullScale Engineering Devel-
opment (FSED) Phase-II to FSED Phase-I so as to utilise its savings on the grounds of accelerating the development process of LCA had failed to yield the desired results. "This was in contravention of the Cabinet approval (November, 2001) for phased development of the prototypes in FSED PhaseII after Technical Demonstrators had been built and flight tested for 210 hours," CAG said. Talking about lack of trainer aircraft, the audit body said that IAF was in the interim using an upgraded Full Mission Simulator (FMS) at ADA for pilot training, pending supply of an FMS by HAL at the LCA operating base. It said that the long gestation period led to a change of weapon systems on LCA, necessitating the acquisition of new ones. "That led to design changes on the aircraft, coupled with delay in integrating R-73E missile with Multi-Mode Radar/ Helmet Mounted Display and Sight. Delayed identification (December, 2009) of Beyond Visual Range Missiles also contributed to the delays in achieving IOC/FOC by LCA," the report said.
luckNow, May 9 (pTi): Home Minister Rajnath Singh today said he will make a statement in Parliament on Monday or Tuesday on the issue of Dawood Ibrahim against the backdrop of controversy following his junior minister's contention that the whereabouts of the underworld don are not known. Talking to the reporters here after a meeting of party workers, Singh said he would make a statement on the issue in Parliament as it is in session. In a written reply in Lok Sabha on May 5, Minister of State for Home Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary had said that whereabouts of Dawood were not known to the government and once he was located, his extradition process would be initiated. This has generated a lot of controversy with opposition attacking the government and accusing it of embarrassing the country by changing position on the issue.
BruSSelS, May 9 (pTi): Belgium’s most prestigious and largest university in the city of Leuven, 26 km from Brussels, has honoured India’s world renowned poet, artist and humanist Rabindranath Tagore by erecting his statue in the university premises. The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) presented a sculpture of Tagore to the City of Leuven and India House Leuven. It was erected in the Literary Garden of the Faculty of Arts in the Catholic University of Leuven in an inaugural ceremony to mark Tagore’s birthday on Thursday evening. Luk Draye, dean of the Faculty of Arts, in his welcome speech described Tagore (1861-1941) “as a freedom fighter and bridge builder between cultures and peoples. And one of India’s most exquisite and versatile artists". “We are standing here at a place where Tagore would have felt at home,” he said. Mohamed Ridouani, alderman of the City of Leuven, said “this bust of Tagore is a symbol in many ways." He noted that India House Leuven was established in 2012 to make the friendship with India and Leuven even stronger. He pointed out that there are about 800 students from India, Bangladesh and Nepal studying at the university. Indian Ambassador to Belgium Manjeev Singh Puri said “You are honouring by giving a permanent place in your midst to our region’s greatest cultural icon of our times,” he said.
Dissent is being stifled and minorities are insecure: Sonia
New Delhi, May 9 (pTi): Mounting yet another attack on Modi government, Congress President Sonia Gandhi today said dissent is being stifled and minorities feel increasingly insecure. Gandhi was speaking at a ceremony to honour eminent Editor Vinod Mehta, who passed away recently, with G K Reddy Memorial National award. The award was received by Mehta's wife Sumita. Addressing the gathering, which included former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the Congress President said, "In the present climate when dissent is being stifled, when the minorities
feel increasingly insecure, when the secular fabric of our society is threatened, when bigotry and obscurantism seem to flourish unchecked, we miss Vinod Mehta's works." Gandhi has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of running a government "of some people, by one person, for a select few". Lauding Mehta's integrity, honesty and commitment to values, she said, "He has never failed to raise his voice against religious intolerance, communal violence and social injustice." Calling Mehta a passionate upholder of our "democratic and secular
ideas", the Congress President said that he was also a courageous crusader of the causes that he believed were just and a proud and "eloquent advocate of our pluralistic society". She also quoted the late Editor as saying that politicians and journalists can never be friends and they were naturally adversaries. "But he would have been surprised that how many of us across the political spectrum looked to VM as a friend," she said. Gandhi said that Mehta had an instinctive understanding of what the freedom of the press meant "to our country, that it was a cornerstone of our democracy and without this freedom, all our other liberties would be threatened". The award carries a cheque of Rs 5 lakh, a gold medal and citation. Mehta, a distinguished Editor and commentator who had successfully launched a number of newspapers and magazines, passed away in New Delhi on March 8 after prolonged illness. He was 73. Mehta, who was Editorial Chairman of 'Outlook' magazine which he had founded, also wrote the best selling autobiography 'Lucknow Boy' in 2011. Born in Rawalpindi (now in Pakistan) in 1942, Mehta was known for his bold journalism.

Future lies in peace, Modi says in Maoist hotbed DaNTewaDa, May 9 (iaNS): The future lies in peace and not in violence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a message at Chhattisgarh's Maoist hotbed of Dantewada, even as a hostage drama unravelled in the sprawling state through the day. The first prime minister to visit Dantewada in three decades after Rajiv Gandhi in 1985, the state was swept into the hostage drama. Though initial reports said around 500 people, who were coming to attend Modi's rally were held hostage by Maoists in Marenga, 350 km from Chhattisgarh's capital Raipur and 150 km
from Dantewada, Chief Minister Raman Singh later said 250 villagers have been held hostage. This happened even as over 11,000 security personnel guarded different parts of Bastar for the prime minister's visit. Speaking at a public rally in the Maoisthit district, the prime minister urged the extremists to leave the gun. "There is no future in violence. If there is a future, it is in peace," he said. "Those who feel that whether or not this macabre drama of death will end, I can tell you with full commitment…his (deaths) too will stop," he said.
Modi also initiated welfare schemes amounting to Rs.24,000 crore, including setting up an ultra mega steel plant, a railway line, a slurry pipeline and a pellet plant. The prime minister also interacted with children during his visit, even saying he would like to be a child again and that "the more you work, the more joy you derive". "If God asks me what do I want, I would ask him to make me a child once again," Modi said, adding that being a child is the biggest joy of life. He also visited 'Saksham' school for specially-abled children and interacted with students there.
New Delhi, May 9 (iaNS): There shall be no discrimination in providing health and life insurances to HIV positive people and it should "preferably" at regular rate of premium, a standing committee of Rajya Sabha has said in a report on a bill to stop discrimination against those suffering from HIV/AIDS. The Rajya Sabha's standing committee on the health ministry, in a report examining The Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (Prevention and Control) Bill, 2014, has also asked central government to form guidelines for the appointment of ombudsman, who play a crucial role as per the bill. According health ministry data, India is estimated to have 2.39 million people living with HIV/AIDS, the third highest number after South Africa and Nigeria. The bill seeks to prevent and control the spread of HIV/AIDS, prohibits discrimination against persons with HIV/ AIDS, provides for informed consent and confidentiality with regard to their treatment, places obligations on establishments to safeguard their rights, and creates mechanisms for redressing their complaints. The panel, in its report said there shall be no discrimination with HIV positive people while providing insurance cover. "The committee is of the opinion that all HIV positive people should be provided insurance cover without any discrimination preferably at normal rate of premium or they may be charged slightly higher rate of premium but in no case exorbitant rate of premium should be charged from HIV positive people for providing insurance cover for both life and health insurance," said a report of a select committee of Rajya Sabha, tabled in the house recently. The committee recommended the health ministry to pursue the matter with the Insurance Regulatory and Develop-
ment Authority (IRDA) for providing insurance cover to all the HIV positive people without any discrimination. The health ministry had submitted to the committee that the IRDA was not in favour of providing insurance cover to such persons at normal rate of premium. On the appointment of ombudsman, the committee has asked center to form "model guidelines" for appointment to ensure that the persons of impeccable integrity are appointed as ombudsman and parity is maintained in respect of all matters relating to the office of ombudsman. "The committee, accordingly, recommends that the ministry should formulate a set of model guidelines giving strong procedures and systems in the matter for guidance of the states in the form of executive instructions as has been done in several previous legislations," it said. The panel added that "significant and substantive" matters covered in the model guidelines may be included in the bill itself. The panel added that government should pass the bill without any further delay. The HIV/AIDS bill lists various grounds on which discrimination against HIV positive persons and those living with them is prohibited. These include the denial, termination, discontinuation or unfair treatment with regard to employment, educational establishments, health care services, residing or renting property, standing for public or private office, and provision of insurance. The requirement for HIV testing as a pre-requisite for obtaining employment or accessing health care or education is also prohibited. The ombudsman shall submit a report to the state government every six months stating the number and nature of complaints received, the actions taken and orders passed.
As global CO2 breaks records, India faces dilemma New Delhi, May 9 (iaNS/ iNDiaSpeND): During the week of April 6 to 12, average carbon dioxide (CO2) levels touched 404.02 parts per million (ppm), the highest-ever in recent human history - and 15 percdent above the levels of 350 ppm scientists say is ideal for Earth. The months of February, March and April had monthly average CO2 levels higher than 400 parts per million (ppm), the first time in recorded history all three months have reached such levels, according to the keystone Mauna Loa observatory in Hawaii. These rising levels have growing relevance for India, as it struggles with a farm crisis brought on by uncertain rainfall, attributed increasingly to climate change, as IndiaSpend recently reported. India is the world’s thirdlargest emitter of CO2, the chief A woman holds the hand of her son and carries another child greenhouse gas. ther climate change. The 400 ppm mark is a milestone when it comes to CO2 levels in the atmosphere, and the first day to record such levels was May 9, 2013. “Current (atmospheric) CO2 values are more than 100 ppm higher than at any time in the last one million years (and maybe higher than any time in the last 25 million years),” said Charles Miller, Principal investigator at NASA’s Carbon in Arctic Reservoirs Vulnerability Experiment after the 400 ppm threshold was passed. “Even more disturbing than the magnitude of this change is the fact that the rate of CO2 accumulation in the atmosphere has been steadily increasing over the last few decades, meaning that future increases will happen faster.” Ever-upward global CO2 levels Last April was the first month in human history with an average CO2 level above 400 ppm. April
2015 recorded a level of 403.26, nearly two points higher than the same month last year. In other words, the records being set by CO2 levels are being consistently reset. The observatory in Hawaii has been recording CO2 levels since 1958, and annual CO2 levels have risen by 82.58 ppm since then to reach 398.55 ppm in 2014, that’s an increase of 1.47 ppm per year. Why this matters to India The rising CO2 levels have been linked by the UN’s intergovernmental panel on climate change (IPCC), in a 2014 report, to rising ocean and land temperatures as well as rising sea levels over the past 35 years. As to how rising CO2 levels have affected or would affect India specifically, it is not clear. Claims in a 2007 IPCC report that the Himalayan glaciers would melt away in the near future have proven to be not credible. However, as we said, a series of studies
have shown that unseasonal rain and erratic weather unsettling the Indian farmer - and the nation’s agriculture, economy and politics - are no aberrations. Disquieting data bring domestic pragmatism As the world’s third-largest contributor of greenhouse gas emissions, India may be in a unique position to affect atmospheric levels of CO2. While its total emissions are rising, its percapita emissions at 1.9 metric tons are a third of the global average, a quarter of China’s and tenth of the USA’s. The path of industrialisation and urbanisation that India adopts will have a significant impact on the world’s warming and its own health status. Already, 13 of the world’s 20 most-polluted cities are in India. India’s stance at various conferences, including the Climate Change Conference in Lima in 2014, has been that it was unfair
to demand emissions cuts from developing countries. The argument being that these economies were still growing compared to the developed world, and that such emission levels would be unavoidable if they want to catch up. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set India on an ambitious programme of using nuclear and renewable energy to power its industrialisation, as it attempts to move some of roughly 600 million people working on farms to factories. “I think if you look at the whole world, and the whole issue of climate change, if there is one part of the world which can provide natural leadership on this particular cause, it is this part of the world,” Modi said in an interview to TIME magazine. India may take an uncompromising position globally to protect its own interests, but it’s difficult to ignore the warning signs from Mauna Loa.

US receptive to nuclear talks with North Korea Matthew Pennington Associated Press
A
fter three years of diplomatic deadlock, the Obama administration says it is open to holding preliminary talks with North Korea to probe its intentions and assess the prospects of ridding the country of nuclear weapons. A senior South Korean envoy traveled to Washington and Beijing this past week as nations involved in long-stalled aid-for-disarmament negotiations consider their diplomatic options. Tensions have eased a little on the Korean Peninsula following the completion of annual U.S.-South Korean military drills. But it remains unclear if a diplomatic overture to North Korea will even get to first base as the Asian nation appears intent on retaining its nuclear weapons. U.S. officials don’t believe the North has demonstrated a serious interest in re-engaging on the issue, and a spokesman at the North Korean diplomatic mission at the United Nations declined to comment
on the question of re-engagement. President Barack Obama has broken the ice with several other longstanding adversaries, like Iran, Cuba and Myanmar. In the case of Iran, the U.S. has joined with other world powers in negotiating a framework agreement to prevent Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. North Korea has gone far beyond that point. The North conducted its first nuclear test in 2006, and despite international sanctions intended to prevent Pyongyang from obtaining sensitive technology and starve it of funds, U.S.based experts are forecasting that it could increase its nuclear arsenal from at least 10 weapons today to between 20 and 100 weapons by 2020. That’s a powerful incentive to give diplomacy another shot, but there’s a gulf between North Korea’s desire to be recognized as a nuclear power, and the sworn aim of the negotiating process that China, Japan, Russia, South Korea and the U.S. say they want to revive: denuclearization
The U.S. is willing to be flexible about a format for “serious dialogue” with North Korea on denuclearization, a senior U.S. official said. The official was not authorized to be named and requested anonymity to discuss U.S.-North Korea policy. One possible venue

36 killed as 40 inmates escape in Iraq prison break BaGHDaD, May 9 (aP): Forty inmates in a prison in eastern Iraq, including some convicted of terrorism charges, have escaped amid a riot that killed at least six police officers and 30 prisoners, authorities said Saturday. There were conflicting casualty reports on the attack at the Khalis prison in Diyala province. Two provincial police officials and a medical official put the toll much higher, saying 51 inmates and 12 policemen were killed, while more than 200 inmates escaped. They spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to release the information. Brig. Gen. Saad Maan Ibrahim, the Interior Ministry spokesman, told The Associated Press that a fight broke out first among the inmates of the prison and when guards went to investigate, they were overpowered and had their weapons
taken. There are hundreds of inmates in the prison. Some of those that escaped were wanted on terrorism charges, Ibrahim added. He said security forces were cordoning off the area, hunting for the escaped inmates. He put the death toll at 36, including the six police officers and 30 prisoners. The town of Khalis is located about 80 kilometers (50 miles) north of Baghdad. Jailbreaks are common in Iraq and usually a result of assaults from militants seeking to free their comrades in prison. The most stunning one was in mid-2013, when militants carried out a carefully orchestrated attack with mortar shells and suicide bombers on Iraq’s infamous Abu Ghraib prison, freeing more than 500 inmates. Ibrahim said, however, that there was no external attack that sparked the Khalis riot.
CaiRO, May 9 (aP): Egypt’s deposed leader Hosni Mubarak and his two sons were sentenced Saturday to three years in prison and a fine in a retrial on corruption charges they faced earlier. It wasn’t immediately clear whether it will include time he’s already served since his country’s 2011 revolt. The corruption case — dubbed by the Egyptian media as the “presidential palaces” affair — concerns charges that Mubarak and his two sons embezzled millions of dollars’ worth of state funds over the course of a decade. The funds were meant to pay for renovating and maintaining presidential palaces but were instead allegedly spent on upgrading the family’s private residences. Mubarak was sentenced to 3 years, his sons to 4 in the case. He later appealed, sparking the retrial. Supporters shouted in anger as Judge Hassan Hassanin announced his verdict. “We believe in you! We trust Mubarak!” they yelled, as some women there began crying. Some wore T-shirts emblazoned with the former leader’s face, and waved and blew kisses as the 87-year-old autocrat entered the courtroom.

left-wing roots. Black says her hometown has been in decline for decades, with one in five people in Paisley now living in poverty and one in three families forced to use food banks. She campaigned for Scottish independence in last September’s referendum. The vote was lost but she told AFP a few weeks later: “It doesn’t mean the dream has died.” “The vote result was absolutely heartbreaking, gutwrenching. But less than a week later I was raring to go. Everyone is pumped up, saying what’s next?” What’s next has turned out to be the House of Commons, where Black has promised to stand up for her constituents in a way she says that her Labour predecessor never did. She has called Alexander a “career politician.” In her run for parliament, Black talked up her leftist credentials and her roots, including full-throated support for local football team Partick Thistle. Her biography on the SNP’s

Court sentences Mubarak, sons to 3 yrs in prison
Mhairi Black is now a member of parliament Paisley, May 9 (aFP): At the age of just 20, Mhairi Black has become Britain’s youngest member of parliament since 1667 in a victory which symbolises an expected nationalist landslide in Scotland. Black still has to complete her final exams at Glasgow University but will now be putting her politics degree into practice as the pro-independence Scottish National Party (SNP) MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire South. The no-nonsense blonde, who pronounces her first name “Mary”, won a majority of over 5,000 in Thursday’s election to topple Douglas Alexander, the Labour party’s 47-year-old foreign affairs spokesman and campaign chief. As the result was announced, a roar of approval went up from her supporters at the count centre but Black spoke in a steady voice as she vowed to improve life for ordinary Scots. “We will work to put an end to the austerity cuts that are hurting people in communities both north and south of the border,” she said. Black grew up in a family that supported Labour but like many in Scotland, has turned her back on the centre-left party that she says has become too distant from its supporters and
ducted its third nuclear test in February 2013, and has test-fired numerous shorter-range missile since then. The U.S. quietly proposed a meeting with North Korea this January, before the recent U.S.-South Ko-
website says Black campaigned against the war in Iraq and worked for the charity Oxfam -- but said the referendum was a turning point for her. “It was always ‘vote Labour, keep out the Tories, vote Labour, keep out the Tories’ but then the referendum came and suddenly everyone woke up,” she said in an interview with news website BuzzFeed. She has been criticised for an abrupt style and threatened to “put the nut in” (head butt) Labour representatives after the referendum. She immediately said she regretted her words and put them down to excessive passion. To those who criticise her lack of experience, she retorts that she is old enough to pay taxes or fight in a war. “I’m not the one who should be nervous -- it’s all of them down there (in London) who have to answer for what they’ve done. They’re the ones who have to be accountable,” she said.
Mubarak, wearing sunglasses, had no visible reaction to the verdict. His two sons, Gamal and Alaa, wore suits to the hearing and also had no reaction. A lawyer for Mubarak said the judge’s decision can be appealed. The verdict included a 125 mn Egyptian pound ($16.3 mn) fine to be paid among the three men, as well as the return of 21 mn Egyptian pounds ($2.7 mn) they embezzled. After the hearing, judicial and security officials said those amounts already had been paid by the Mubaraks following their first trial. Mubarak returned to the military hospital in Cairo where he’s been held amid his trials. Officials said his two sons were taken to Torah Prison as authorities determine whether their time served would cover for the sentences Saturday. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they weren’t authorized to speak to journalists. Many Egyptians view Gamal, Mubarak’s one-time heir apparent, and his brother, wealthy businessman Alaa, as key pillars of an autocratic and corrupt administration that struck an alliance with the megawealthy at the expense of the poor.
Although father and son denied succession plans, that perception, along with corruption, police brutality and poverty, fueled the 2011 revolt. Images of Gamal making public appearances have circulated on social media, first at a funeral last month and then last weekend with his family at the Giza pyramids. Mubarak The rise of Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, who has vowed stability after four years of turmoil and taken a tough line against dissent, has encouraged Mubarak supporters and upended the depiction of the revolution in the media, where activists now are most often cast as troublemakers or foreign agents. Hundreds of the young activists from the 2011 revolt now are either languishing in prison on charges of breaking a protest law or have left the country. Islamist President Mohammed Morsi, Mubarak’s freely elected successor, himself was overthrown by the military led by el-Sissi in 2013. Saturday’s hearing, at a police academy on the outskirts of Cairo, took place in the same courtroom where Morsi was sentenced to 20 years in prison last month for using force against protesters.

KOLKAtA, MAy 9 (IANS): Andre Russell (51 in 21 balls), Yusuf Pathan (29 from 19 balls) and Piyush Chawla's 11-ball 18 propelled Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the top of the Indian Premier League (IPL) table as they beat Kings XI Punjab by one wicket and a ball to spare here on Wednesday. The Knights have 15 points from 12 games while the Kings are still at the bottom of the standings with only two wins from 11 contests. In answer to KXIP's 183/5, KKR finished with 184/9 with Russell top scoring with 51 from 21 balls. Anureet Singh and Gurkeerat Singh Mann picked two wickets each for the losers. The Knights were off to a flyer with Robin Uthappa (17) and skipper Gautam Gambhir making easy weather of the opposition pacers. Even though Uthappa got out, the fourth and the fifth over produced 30 runs for the men in purple with 50 coming up in just 4.5 overs.
However, the spinners in the form of Gurkeerat and Glenn Maxwell were able to put the brakes on the run rate by clinching two quick wickets of Manish Pandey and Gambhir. The latter tamely lofted one to long on as the hosts slumped to 76/3 in 10 overs. Suryakumar Yadav soon fell for nine in the next over. When all looked gloomy for the home team, the 60,000 strong crowd at the ground still had their hopes pinned on the pair of Pathan and Russell who were looking to rebuild the innings. KKR went past the 100run mark at the end of the 12th over. The duo then smashed Axar Patel for 24 runs in the 14th over which included three massive sixes into the stands. After a partnership of 53 runs off just 25 deliveries, Pathan (29; 19b 1x4 3x6) fell, edging one to the wicket-keeper while trying to lift it over third man. Russell continued clobbering the Kings XI bowlers but then managed to nick
one to Wriddhiman Saha; by then however, KKR were close to the shore. Earlier, the home side was sloppy on the field from the start with Murali Vijay being the beneficiary as three of his catches were spilled. But his innings finally ended as Narine castled him soon after. There were two more chances that went down as Vohra and Wriddhiman Saha knit together a useful partnership with the score reading 75/1 at the halfway stage. However, Narine was quick to dismiss Vohra (39;34b, 1x4 3x6) just as he held on to a return catch. Maxwell and Saha then upped the ante as they belted the Knights' spinners for 35 runs in two overs. Narine came to Kolkata's rescue once again, sending both Maxwell (43; 22b, 4x4 3x6) and Saha (33; 25b, 0x4 2x6) back into the dug-out in the 17th over. The hosts pulled things back thereafter but a late surge from Miller ensured they posted a formidable total.
DHAKA, MAy 9 (AP): Pakistan finally ended the victory drought on its Bangladesh tour, winning the second and final test by a massive 328 runs Saturday to take the series 1-0. The test was Pakistan's last chance to salvage a miserable tour after being swept in the one-day internationals, losing the Twenty20, and conceding a draw in the first test in Khulna. Leg-spinner Yasir Shah returned figures of 4-73 as Pakistan completed the formalities of the victory just one hour after the lunch break on the fourth day, bowling out Bangladesh for 221. He was complemented by fast bowler Imran Khan, who finished with 2-56. Mominul Haque was the highest scorer for the hosts with 68 while Tamim Iqbal made 42. Shuvagata Hom was the last batsman to be out on 39. Mominul became the fourth batsmen to score a half-century in 11 consecutive tests. Iqbal, who hit a career best 206 in the first test, was the first man out in the morning session when he nicked an Imran delivery to Sarfraz Ahmed. He fell seven runs short of becoming the highest run getter for Bangladesh. Imran struck again with the wicket of Mahmudullah (2) who pushed away from his body to get an outside edge and Younis Khan took a brilliant reflex catch at slip. Shakib Al Hasan (13) hastened the downfall of the team by playing a rash shot, lured by Hafeez who gave more flight to invite him to attack. Yasir Shah then removed Mushfiqur Rahim for a duck, with the batsman dragging a turning delivery onto the stumps. Mushfiqur's dismissal effectively closed Bangladesh's slim chances to take the match into the fifth day. Pakistan needed just one hour to complete the formalities after the lunch, with Soumya Sarkar (1) and Mominul Haque removed in the space of just one over. Shuvagata Hom delayed the inevitable for a while.
GRANOLLERS, MAy 9 (AP): Nico Rosberg finally clinched his first pole position of the season at the Spanish Grand Prix on Saturday, ending his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton's bid for a fifth consecutive qualifying win. Rosberg had the fastest time in two of the three practice sessions this weekend, and continued that form with a dynamic drive in qualifying. The German finished 0.267 seconds clear of Hamilton and 0.777 ahead of Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel. "Awesome, thanks guys" Rosberg told his team over the race radio and gave both thumbs up as he climbed out of his car. His previous pole came at the season-ending Abu Dhabi GP last year. His last victory came at the previous race, at the Brazilian GP, where he started from pole. "Psychologically it feels great. Starting with the car I have I will be trying for the win for sure," said Rosberg, who will try for a ninth ca-
reer race victory. "Strategy is going to be important. Overtaking is more difficult on this track so starting in front is a particularly big advantage." Of the past 24 races held at the Catalunya track, 18 have been won from pole — a fact not lost on Hamilton, who took the victory here last year after starting up front. "It is very, very difficult to overtake, as it has been shown over the years," the two-time F1 champion said. "Nico did a great job." However, with more than 700 meters until the first turn, Hamilton can get ahead of Rosberg if he makes a strong start. Rosberg drove aggressively from the outset, even beating Hamilton's pole position time from last year in the third practice run. He was keen to make amends for the Bahrain GP three weeks ago, where by his own admission he had driven too conservatively in qualifying and ended up third on the grid behind
Vettel and Hamilton. "For sure Bahrain was still in my mind," he said. "I wanted to make sure I didn't make that mistake again. I just got myself into a rhythm and it worked out well." The last Spanish driver to win here was Fernando Alonso two years ago, and the two-time champion has all but no chance of even a podium after qualifying down in 13th ahead of McLaren teammate Jenson Button. McLaren, which has struggled since switching to Honda engines, has not scored a point yet this season, with Alonso's best a meager 11th place in Bahrain. But home fans still had something to cheer about with Toro Rosso driver Carlos Sainz Jr. — the son of two-time world rally champion Carlos Sainz — qualifying in fifth place behind the Williams of Valtteri Bottas and ahead of his Toro Rosso teammate Max Verstappen.

Naga-assamese disputes exaggerated
I
want to start this article with a popular tale. There is a folk tale, from as long ago as one can remember, about a mother named Nukpunyu. She had two sons namely Jeitok, the elder, and Nauman, the younger one. During those days salt was a very rare commodity and was not readily available. The mother somehow managed to get enough salt for her sons. The jealous neighbours instigate their sons against Nukpunyu. Nukpunyu tied up her sons with cane rope and told them not to loosen the knots until she returned. But, after some days, when Nukpunyu returned she found that her elder son had escaped by cutting loose the knot. She went in search of him with Nauman, her younger son. When efforts proved fruitless she became frustrated but when she started hitting the ground in anger hills started to appear. Time went by but her tireless efforts brought result and she was reunited with her elder son Jeitok. However, soon Nukpunyu was assailed with worries about her sons’ future as she was getting old. She only had a few hens, pigs and cows which she divided between her two sons. Having done this, she moved down to the plains with her younger son while asking her elder son to live in the hills. She also told her younger son, Nauman, to respect and listen to Jeitok his elder brother. She also instructed Jeitok to give love and care to his younger brother Nauman. These two brothers gave birth to Assam and Nagaland. Kokaibhai (brothers). This may be true or may not be true but it is a popular oral folk story from time immemorial and is also believed by many Naga people living in the interstate border. Because of this belief Assamese and Nagas were regarded as brothers. The Naga people always wanted to maintain this love and respect. This folklore was stated by Baukam Noklang of Enaki village in Mokokchang district of Nagaland. Baukam Noklang, a teacher by profession lives with his wife, two sons and brothers in the interstate border since the days of his grandfather. Baukam Noklang’s grandfather was a toll collector or lessee of Singibil market of Geleki. This was continued till the time of Baukam Noklang’s father Ongjung Noklang. Even after many years of independence these people living in the interstate border were not aware of the demarcation of the boundary between the two states and that they belong to two separate states. On market days many Naga people hailing from Tuli, Enaki Natun Basti, Ladigarh, Enaki C, Enaikhai etc came to the plains with their various produce and exchanged them with the people of the plains in the Singibil market. They also received the love and care of the people living in the plains with them, as Assamese are often referred to
by many Nagas. They used to hear from their forefathers that these people of the plains are their brothers and they need to treat them with love. This is the story of Assamese and Nagas especially around present Sivasagar District. This is the tale of hills and plains. This is not about two different states namely Assam and Nagaland. This love and care still exist. They do not collect toll in Singibil market nowadays. People used to come from Luchaipani, Fishingpani, Umakan Basti, Ladigarh etc with various produce of Naga hill such as sweet pumpkin, Naga chilies, bottole guard, brinjal, sweet orange, litchi, yenjook and took a halt at places like Singibil, Athkhel, Mekipur, Geleki etc. They also used to come to Simaluguri, Nazira, Mechagarh etc. Even though the flow ofpeople was comparatively less from earlier days but the tradition of barter system is still alive. They used to take paddy, rice, tea and salt with them in return. The Naga people have a lot of relatives in the plains. Many Naga girls were wedded to youths of plains and lived very well. The Naga people went back to the hills by seeing the smiling faces of the Naga girls dressed in traditional Assamese Mekhela Chador who were married to Assamese youths. Some Assamese girls also entered into marriage with Naga youths. There were no difficulties or complications at all. In the border areas the Naga people set up mini tea gardens in association with Assamese people with equal profit sharing. Some of them also did rubber plantation and coal business and it is going on in harmony. There has never been an issue between Assamese and Nagas regarding the border. If there was any quarrel, it was regarding business terms or between the labourers working in the tea gardens or coal fields. That too was purely on personal lavel. These quarrels did not hamper the bonhomie between the two communities. The love and respect continued to flow as it used to. We witnessed this first hand. Without any complications, we crossed over to the Naga villages situated on the other side of the border, where we were greeted with warm welcome. There was a rush to treat us in that particular household of Enaki Village where we entered. We had tea in their courtyard and tasted juicy Naga Tengas. Our hosts happily described the cordial relationship and feeling of brotherhood they shared with Assamese villages across the border. They spell out the names of many Assamese people with whom they have an affable relation from very old days and which continued till date. When we raised the conflict and bitterness in relationship between the two states which often grabbed the headlines of print
and electronic media of our state, they expressed surprise. “We hardly see your news papers and television channels. It is true that sometimes there has been some petty altercations between the labourers of tea garden and the Nepali, Bengali people living in the border. Our boys have set up some small tea gardens and it has offended the big tea garden owners. Sometimes they cut down tea bushes and rubber plants and create tension where people even got hurt. Liquor trade is also flourishing in the border and some drunkards create nuisance but there is no issue of land in all these matters. We were invited by the youths to bring about a settlement of these disputes. We made them take oath not to repeat such things again. It is also true that some of our youths have gone astray. They extort money from tea garden owners by showing guns. Some boys from across the border were also doing the same. We tried to conciliate. It is not that only our Naga people were involved. We do not believe the things you have told us about the border…….” We are often confused when we hold a news paper with a headline about border conflict and encroachment by Naga people on Assam’s land in one hand while on the other hand holding Yenjook served with love and affection in a Sumha. “Next time do come with giving prior intimation. We are feeling very sorry as we could not treat you well”. We feel overwhelmed at these words of our hosts, the young teacher and his lovely wife from our very own Enaki C village on the border. Bihubor, Lakhmijan, Borsil are situated at stone throw away from each other on Assam side while on Nagaland side there are Naginimara, Namsang, Tuli. There are so many markets in the border areas with people from both sides participating in complete harmony with each other from decades long. If there exist any dispute regarding the border whether it was possible for Assamese youths to do businesses of coal and stones in Bihubar, Naginimara? Or to open hotels, garage which were centered around coal and stone trading? In areas like Mesagarh, Meteka, Mathiachiga youths from both the states have been working together in garages and various other trades. When Gadapani was living in exile due to Lora Raja, Naga king gave him asylum in the hills. Gadapani went to see his beloved wife Joymati through Naginimara along with Naga queen Watlung. Gadapani during the time of his exile passed his time by fishing in Bihubar. The stone on which Gadapani sat during angling still remains and Naga people showed it with pride. They feel proud in showing the memorial of Watlung (may be the character of Watlung was turned into Dalimi by Lakhminath Bezbaruah). It was Na-
galand where Gadapani planned to dethrone Lora Raja and built his arsenal. The remains still exist. When Gadapani assumed power, he gave many Naga girls the status of his wife. During Ahom period, as a mark of respect to Watlung, Gadapani settled many Naga people on the bank of Dikhow River. Naga villages are still there in Hahchora. Can such close brotherly tie be shattered? We reached Geleki, Lahon village they wanted to hear the version of the Assamese people. Last year during Magh Bihu there was buffalo fight in Lahon village which was attended by Hamiyang Phum who came all the way from his village near the border with a pair of buffaloes. Dressed in complete Assamese attire with a Gamucha on his head and a Dhuti, his presence dazzled the occasion. He was highly felicitated and his buffaloes also emerged as winner. The villagers of Lahon village escorted him back to his village with a victory march. That year the buffalo fight became a symbol of harmony between two villages of Assam and Nagaland. Hamiyang Phum promised to come back again but due to the ruling of the honorable supreme court, buffalo fight could not be arranged this year. There was no instance of Assamese and Naga quarrel in these areas. In Geleki market itself many Naga people carried out coal trade. Entered into marriage tie. They were unaffected by the politically coloured border disputes. When a petty difference between two individuals was given the shape of “dispute” between the two states with banner headlines and breaking news flashing on television screen, the Assamese and Nagas did not give too much importance. Naga-Assamese friendship was real and not artificial. Moving southward from Sonari town after crossing Namtola there is Tizit, the gateway to Mon district of Nagaland. Mon town is situated at a distance of an approximately two hours drive from Assam. But there is abundant movement of Assamese people in the area. People from Nagaland also do their marketing in Namtola market. In Namtola market, many Nagas also bring bamboo shoot, chilies and various other indigenous produce of Nagaland to sell. No chaos at all. In Mon town itself there used to exist love and respect for Assamese people. In Tizit we came across 67 year old Mandon Konyak with his sweet smile although, like many others, his teeth had become black due to chewing beetle nuts. He told us, “In my entire life I have never quarreled with a single Assamese. My neighbor is an Assamese. You can ask them or you can even enquire in Natola police station. It is a custom for us to carry a dao but we never used it to inflict harm. Sometimes our youths quarrel with Bengali and Nepali labourers of Namtola.
They complained in police station that they were hurt by Nagas. Media people came and they asked us about border and accused us of grabbing their land. Our people get harassed for no fault of theirs. Quarrel is always between two individuals and this simple thing is not understood by people”. Same thing was reiterated by Nokpoh Kanyak and Khanpai Konyak living in Tizit border who feel affection for people living in the plains. “Prince Gadapani married the elder daughter of Konyak Naga chief. We love you very much. That’s why we are used to people from son-in-law’s land. Why should we quarrel? We were being prohibited by our forefathers to wrangle. Border? We don’t understand border. Whenever we feel like we went to Namtola market, Sonari town. Have some close friends. We went on Bihu and in ceremonies like marriage. Earlier we went to fetch salt but nowadays salt became available here”. People living in Namtola did not want that a personal argument between two individuals to turn into a border dispute between two states. Therefore they have arranged border harmony festivals which were attended by people from both the states in large numbers. Respective traditions were show-cased. They feel hurt when notorious people disrupt the harmony. Our two innocent peoples did not know about border, they were not aware about the border dispute that began during the time of Syed Sadullag, Gopinath Bordoloi or even in the time of British rule. They were not conscious of Naga kings refusal to pay tax to British or about the concept of Nagalim or the formation of districts with political intention or the border being demarcated without their knowledge from where the tension regarding the border started. But they do know that by paying tax to Ahom kingdom people used to live here very peacefully. Nearly twenty years ago, Naga youths used to stay in households in Nazira for years and completed their studies. We feel that these small things are so valuable, so important and heart touching. When we file a news report with exaggeration or make a mountain out of a mole hill with “Breaking News”, without making proper investigations on facts, it does not help our two communities. Why can’t we publish the instances of peace and harmony in banner headlines or find place in Breaking News! The negative news our media are wont to carry takes away the fragrance of scintillating music/soulful attachments of the pearl-like words of love affection, fondness etc. from our hearts and minds. fter quarreling with his wife, Jennifer Garner, Ben Affleck, was allegedly seen out and about not wearing his wedding ring. The National Enquirer, via Radar Online, revealed exclusively that Affleck sought solace in a Buddhist monastery in Canada recently. While Affleck was in Canada, his wife reportedly spent her birthday with son, Samuel, on April 17 in Los Angeles. “Ben is in the grips of a mid-life crisis,” an insider told The National Enquirer. “He’s trying to figure out what he wants out of life, and find a path back to being a good husband.” The source added, “He’s on a ‘self discovery’ mission, and talking through his marital issues. He’s at a crossroads.” The “Batman vs. Superman” actor reportedly sought solace at The Gampo Abbey. Monks and nuns offer sanctuary to those in need. Apparently, Garner flew to Canada to let her husband know that she’s already had it with him. “Jen was worried enough that she dropped everything and flew to Canada to give Ben an ultimatum,” the insider said. “Jen said she’d give him one more chance to clean up his act.” “The bottom line is that Jen can’t trust Ben. It’s a vicious cycle -
he’ll screw up, then he’ll get it together, but then it’s only a matter of time before he’s back to bad behavior. The next few months are going to be a real test, and Ben’s going to have to be on his absolute best behavior to prove to Jen he’s a completely changed man,” the source disclosed. Jen and Ben were allegedly last seen spending time together on the actress’ birthday. Word has it that a $150 million divorce is what’s keeping Affleck and Garner in the marriage. On a lighter note, Garner told People magazine jokingly that her family life is surrounded with ‘attitude.’ The “Alias” actress said, “With the eye-rolling and the drama and the attitude. I just tell them, ‘I didn’t try to order kids with sass. How did I get all these sassy kids?’ Garner and Affleck are parents to Violet, 9, Seraphina, 6, and Samuel, 3. They were married in 2005. However, Gossip Cop refuted the rumor of an impending separation between the couple. Meanwhile, insiders revealed that Affleck’s mid-life crisis has extended to excessive drinking and compulsive gambling. According to these sources, the actor drunk and gambled while shooting “Batman vs. Superman,” as reported in The Hollywood Gossip.

For years, Carawan was a leader of the Highlander Research and Education Center in Tennessee. It served as a gathering place for social—justice activists, including the Rev Martin Luther King Jr and Rosa Parks. The song “We Shall Overcome” was adapted by Pete Seeger and others at Highlander from the spiritual “I Will Overcome.” As Highlander music director, Carawan taught the song to activists who led the sit—in movement of the 1960s. Rose banks in 3 at buzzer to lift Bulls over Cavaliers
C M Y K

CHICAGO, MAy 9 (AP): Chicago's Derrick Rose sank a 3-pointer at the buzzer and scored 30 points to give the Bulls a 99-96 victory over Cleveland on Friday and a 2-1 lead in their NBA Eastern Conference semifinal series. Across on the west coast, the Los Angeles Clippers also took a 2-1 advantage but in more comfortable style as they beat Houston 124-99. Rose came up with his game-winning shot just after Cleveland had tied the game on a 3-pointer by J.R. Smith with 10.8 seconds left. The play called for Rose to get the ball in the corner, but he could not find an opening there. Instead, he took the inbounds pass and dribbled to his right, past the top of the key. Then, as time expired, he banked in a 26-footer off the glass. That drew a mobbing from his teammates and a deafening roar from the crowd for a hometown star limited in recent years by knee injuries. "I'm just thankful and grateful that my teammates gave me the ball," Rose said. "They believed in me down the stretch. They kept getting me the ball, kept encouraging me to play the way that I usually play." LeBron James, who scored 27 for Cleveland despite shooting 8 of 25, said there was nothing Tristan Thompson could do to prevent the shot. "You follow the game plan, they make a shot - you live with it," he said. "It's when you make mistakes during the game plan, those would be the ones that are hard to live with. I know it's easy for me to say that. The shot was not made on me. The guy took a tough shot. Tip your hat to him." James passed Tony Parker, Steve Nash and Larry Bird for fourth on the career playoff assists list. He had 14 in the game, giving him 1,073.
