No more flat car tires: Scientists modify rubber BENGALURU, SEPTEMBER 26 (IANS): Here is good news for car owners. A team of scientists from Germany and Finland has developed a new type of rubber that can heal itself after a puncture - a discovery that means one may not have to call a mechanic after a flat tire. The development of this new material has been reported by Amit Das - the lead author and his colleagues in the latest issue of “Applied Materials & Interfaces”, a journal of the American Chemical Society. Rubber is made of long strands of molecules. When the tire is punctured, these strands break. Traditionally, manufacturers add sulphur to ensure that rubber is durable and elastic - a process known a vulcanisation. But once the tire is pierced by a piece of glass or any sharp object, it can’t be patched for longterm use. Now, for the first time, scientists have made tiregrade rubber using a new simple process that avoids vulcanization altogether. “Here, we describe a simple approach to converting commercially available and widely used rubber into a highly elastic material with extraordinary selfhealing properties without using conventional cross-linking or vulcanising agents,” Das and colleagues report. Testing - by different mechanical analysis and scanning electron microscopy -- showed that a cut in the material healed at room temperature, a property that could allow a tire to mend itself while parked. According to the report, the ease of processing and absence of nontoxic vulcanizing chemicals to synthesize such novel self-healing rubbers “opens a new horizon in rubber technology and may significantly increase interest in both commercial application and academic research.”

ACAUT objects to issue of trade licenses by NSCN (IM)

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 26 (MExN): Strongly objecting to the issuance of trade licenses to business houses and shops in Dimapur by the NSCN (IM), Action Committee Against Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) Nagaland on Saturday questioned its logicality and absurdity when Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) under the district administration was already issuing the same. While stating that such exercise should be discouraged tooth and nail by one and all, a press statement from media cell, ACAUT Nagaland reminded NSCN (IM) that in a “reality of multiple factions, the exercise of issuing trade licenses is a trend that is extremely anti-people and a matter of concern to the public if other factions starts issuing their own trade licenses.” At the same time, ACAUT Naga-

land also urged the DMC under the district administration to look into the matter with utmost sense of urgency and stop this dangerous trend before it gets out of control. “Needless to say that there can be only one authority that can issue trade license and such exercise directly undermines the authority of the district administration and unless this absurdity is stopped, it may come to a point where people may force the State government and all NPG’s to divide and sort out among themselves the revenues collected from trade license and not bother the public,” it pointed out.

On this, ACAUT has cautioned the NPG’s not to test the ire of the people but rather heed to the plea of the people. Meanwhile, ACAUT Nagaland has expressed appreciation on the commendable work of Dimapur police in arresting two cadres of NSCN (R) who were extorting money from Threat by GPRN/NSCN shops in Dimapur. DGP reminds ED to expedite case on black money transfer allegation DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 26 (MExN): Director General of Police (DGP), Nagaland has written a reminder to the Enforcement Directorate to expeditiously look into the allegations of black money transfer of money by Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang. A press statement from media cell, Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) informed that DGP LL Doungel, in a letter addressed to the Special Director of the ED Zonal Office, Kolkata, has requested the ED to apprise the Government of Nagaland on the developments and progress made so far in the matter for which the government had requested to be investigated under the provisions of Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). The DGP had earlier written to the ED on February 23, 2015 saying that Diphupar Police Station, Dimapur district had received a complaint from one T. Shuya on January 15, 2015 alleging economic offences against the Chief Minister and his wife and that enclosures submitted by the complainant appear to be transaction receipt of DBS Bank, 6 Sheraton Way, DBS Building, Singapore, the press statement said. The DGP had pointed out then that since the State police do not have the wherewithal to take up the case, he had requested the ED to thoroughly examine the documents and to supply the findings to the Government.

Meanwhile, CMO rubbished allegation of the Chief Minister owning a flat in Singapore while maintaining that it has documents contradicting the claim. It stated that Rajah & Tann, the top Singapore law firm for international arbitration, as per a widely-followed ranking by London-based Global Arbitration Review (GAR), has confirmed that the location mentioned as Loffi Apartment, 1st Floor, No 3, Dickson Road, Singapore (allegedly owned by TR Zeliang) had been zoned for commercial use by Singapore Land Authority on January 23, 2008 and that it was approved for erection of a 4-storey Hotel development (235 rooms) with one basement and an attic. Therefore, Rajah & Tann expressed view that “TR Zeliang neither owns nor resides” at the said location. Earlier this year, the Chief Minister had written to the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India soliciting necessary action on alleged remittances abroad in his and his wife’s names. RBI had directed the matter to the ED but the outcome of the investigation is yet to be known. Legal luminaries are being consulted for framing of defamation charges against those responsible for spreading such blatant lies and falsehood which had irreparably damaged the reputation, integrity and image of the Chief Minister, the CMO statement further informed.

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 26 (MExN): In response to recent allegations, speculations and statements issued by different organizations, national media correspondent in connection to the Pangsha peace mission and the meeting with the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, the Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) on Saturday issued a statement to reiterate their stand. Stating that the NMA is an independent organization with no affiliation to any other organization, the press statement from the mothers’ association said they were neither tasked by the State government or the Government of India (GoI) in their recent initiative of peace building with the NSCN (K) as misreported by national media. “Peace keeping and peace building has been the mandate of the NMA since the early 1980’s and 90’s and we continue to do so over the years, in all kinds of conflict situations and in our search for peace as mothers and as Naga women,” it asserted. It pointed out that NMA had been requesting the leaders of NSCN (K) since the abrogation of the ceasefire on March 2015 for a peace dialogue and therefore accepted the open invitation to meet the NSCN (K) leaders before their meeting with the ENPO and Naga Hoho. “As an organization that has worked for decades on peace, any peace initiative of NMA does not need the sanction or permission of any other organization or the government nor are we duty bound to inform anyone on a peace mission that we feel is imperative to undertake,” it maintained. The NMA also appealed the national media including DNA, IANS to have courtesy of cross checking accounts, or making a call, before ‘putting words into our mouth’ as has been the case in the recent media coverage of either the Pangsha incident or the memorandum submitted to the GoI. The mothers’ association said it has cross checked with the Delhi based PTI

correspondent A Bora on the statement made by the Union Home Minister in the NHRC seminar, which was in reference to the hanging of Yakub Memon and battles between armed groups and security forces and not about the NMA and Pangsha killings brought before his office. It therefore stated that the DNA article, carried by local media, sought to discredit the NMA and its meeting with the Union Home Minister. The NMA appreciated the graciousness of the Union Home Minister on the frank exchange of views during their closed door meeting on September 18 and his willingness to consider the request of the mothers. It further appreciated the seriousness of the Union Minister of State, Kiren Rijiju on the NMA memorandum. The NMA also reiterated its position on the Naga issue that it must be inclusive for sustainable peace and appealed to all Naga Political Groups to come in peace together and work for the future. It appreciated and encouraged all organizations working for bringing peace and understanding, working for changes within society, including younger voices. It has also registered strong protest to the Indian army authorities to stop harassment of families and children of national workers who have been killed. “The recent raid on a house of a deceased cadre, in the midst of grief and loss suffered by the wife and children, is totally inhuman and unwarranted,” the mothers’ association highlighted. Meanwhile, NMA expressed deep concern and sadness on the recent gang fight incident which led to the unfortunate death of a young boy in Kohima. In this connection, it made earnest appeal to schools and college authorities, parents and teachers, colony leaders to be vigilant and discourage such forms of violence among Naga youth and help build peace among the next generation.

‘Accusation against Semdok has no iota of truth’

NCP units of Tuensang & Longleng district seek clarification from national party chief over sacking of former president

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 26 (MExN): Coming out in support of former National Congress Party (NCP) Nagaland Sate president, Er TL Semdok who was recently sacked by party chief Sharad Pawar for alleged anti-party activities, NCP Tuensang and Longleng

unit on Saturday said the accusation levelled against Semdok had no ‘iota of truth.’ According to a joint press statement issued by Longleng and Tuensang district NCP presidents Thanglau Angh and Shiu Khaim, an emergency executive meeting of the NCP party of the two districts at Hotel Saramati on September 25 resolved to seek clarification over the removal from higher authorities of the national NCP party. India should aspire to be hub of neutral arbitration: SC Judge NEW DELHI, SEPTEMBER 26 (PTI): India should aspire to become a hub of neutral arbitration, a Supreme Court judge on Saturday said while claiming that most people in the country have immense faith in this alternative form of dispute resolution. Speaking at a conference on international arbitration, SC judge Justice AK Sikri referred to a survey that indicated that 80 percent of individuals still consider arbitration as the preferred system for dispute resolution. “There is need for a neutral forum of arbitration and India should aspire to become a hub of neutral arbitration. India needs to send a message that we do not impede on arbitration... Rather here is a country that promotes the arbitration culture,” Justice Sikri said. He stressed on the need for a time bound system of arbitration in India and said there should be solutions like introduction of elements of mediation and inquisitorial system in the arbitral process. Chairman of International Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ICADR), HR Bhardwaj, asserted that it was time for India to join the international high table on arbitration, conciliation and mediation, saying the world is changing and it would not wait for us. Former chairman of Law Commission of India, Justice AP Shah said the culture of arbitration is missing in the country and the attitude towards arbitration is “step-motherly”.

districts found nothing wrong on the former president in withdrawing the disqualification case against the three former NCP MLAs taking into consideration the interest of the Indo-Naga peace talks. The house also resolved to submit a memorandum to NCP national president Sharad Pawar to revoke the sacking order immediately in the larger interest of the party in the state. “Otherwise it might send out a wrong signal to party supporters in the State which may lead to take drastic decisions such as resigning enmass,” the statement noted.

While claiming that the withdrawal of the ‘SLP No. 3335/2015’ against the three NCP MLAs was taken in the presence of NCP president /convenor/general secretary (Adm) and NCP legislature, the statement contended that the decision to withdraw the case was solely made to uphold the unity of the DAN government and to make the current Indo-Naga Peace talk a success. It therefore sought clarification from national NCP leaders as how the withdrawal of the said case by former president Er TL Semdok was anti-party activities.

PM Modi urged to prevent further violence in Manipur

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 26 (MExN): Several human rights organisations from the North East have submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, demanding that the centre prevent further violence in Manipur state by impressing upon the Government of Manipur to immediately withdraw the recently passed Protection of Manipur People Bill 2015, the Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms (7th amendment) Bill 2015 and the Manipur Shops and Establishment (2nd amendment) Bill 2015. The memo was appended by the Meghalaya Peoples’ Human Rights Council, the Indigenous Womens’ Forum of North East India, the Sinlung Indigenous Peoples’ Human Rights Organisation, the Naga Peoples’ Movement for Human Rights, the Karbi Human Rights Watch and the Zo Indigenour Forum. It informed the Prime Minister that the concerned bills were passed by the Manipur state assembly without due democratic process and “in violation of Article 371 (C) of the constitution.” The organisations said protests in the hill districts against the passing of the bills was dealt with harshly by the Manipur government, which eventually led to the death of seven people, including a 11 year old, and injury to 24 others in the hands of Manipur police commandos. The Protection of Manipur People Bill 2015,

it stated, attempts to subvert the special status accorded to the hill areas of Manipur and “questions the identity and citizenship of the indigenous/tribal of Manipur.” The Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms (7th amendment bill), it meanwhile said, attempts to “alienate the indigenous/tribal communities” from their traditional lands and territories. The said bills, it lamented were also passed without consulting the Hill Area Committee (HAC), which was established to look into matters affecting the hill areas, including land and territory. It asked the centre to ensure that the Manipur government adhere to established democratic procedures and obligations in accordance with national and international human rights standards such as the right to free, prior and informed consent of the right holders, particularly the indigenous/tribal peoples, and to ensure their full and effective participation in the legislation of laws that affect them. It further asked the centre to institute and independent judicial enquiry and to immediately book the Manipur police commandos responsible for deaths of the protestors. The memo also called for immediate stop to the millitarisation of Churachandpur town and other indigenous/tribal peoples lands in the North East.

Assam: Tension after cow parts found near temples Guwahati, Sep tember 26 (iaNS): Tension gripped parts of Assam's Dhubri and Cachar districts as people clashed with police on Saturday after body parts of cows were found near temples. Many people were injured, a few have been arrested while curfew has been imposed in one of the districts to prevent the incidents from spilling over. Police said the problem started in Agomoni in Dhubri district on Friday evening after a group of people beat up two youth alleging that they intentionally kept some beef near a temple in Kaldoba area. Although police intervened and managed to control the situation immediately, the situation turned worse on Saturday morning as hundreds of people belonging to one community

took to the streets protesting against Friday's assault on the two youth. Police sources said the irate mob destroyed shops and commercial establishments in Agomoni area and also set a motorcycle ablaze. Police resorted to batoncharge, leading to injuries to many protesters. The Dhubri district administration immediately imposed curfew in and around Agomoni area. The administration imposed Section 144 that prohibits assembly of more than 10 people in the entire district to ensure that the violence does not spill over. Police have arrested 19 people so far for inciting violence. In a similar incident, tension gripped Silchar town of Cachar district after the recovery of a cow's head near

a Kali temple in Meherpur area on Friday evening. Although police managed the situation on Friday night, people from one community took out a protest rally in Silchar town on Saturday morning. As the protest turned unruly, police resorted to a baton-charge in which many protesters were injured.BJP legislator Dilip Paul along with another BJP leader were arrested for their alleged involvement. Gogoi announces freebies ahead of assembly polls Guwahati, September 26 (iaNS): About six months ahead of the assembly polls, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday announced a series of freebies for the people of the state, particularly for the economically and socially weaker sections. The chief minister told newsmen that his government was going to roll out a total of 25 schemes under the Chief Ministers' Special Schemes for the people of the state from December worth over Rs.850 crore, which will benefit 76.41 lakh people. Gogoi's announcement, however, came at a time when opposition parties, including the BJP, have been accusing the Congress-led Assam government of diverting funds meant for developmental projects for paying the salary of the employees. Gogoi, however, said the government would continue the existing schemes and some new schemes would also be launched depending on their needs. "The schemes will include everything from distribution of threads to fulfil the housing need of the homeless people and many others," Gogoi said. The chief minister further refuted the allegation of opposition parties that the government was diverting developmental funds, saying the state has received Rs.4,354.31 crore from the Centre in the 2015-16 fiscal and had already released Rs.3,985 crore to different departments for execution of works. "So where from I divert Central funds?" the chief Minister asked. Gogoi also said the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre only has lip sympathy for Assam and other parts of the northeast.

"Flights between Dhaka - as well as important cities like Chittagong and Sylhet - and Agartala could then be operated," the Tripura minister added. He said that the upgrade is justified as the Agartala is the second largest city in the north-east region in terms of population and air traffic after Guwahati.Dey said that the Agartala airport handled 816,303 passengers in 2013 and the number rose to 905,014 last year. Currently, Guwahati and Imphal are the only two cities with international airports in the north-eastern region comprising 8 states.

‘Post reforms, world looks differently at India’ United nations, september 26 (pti): World Bank President Jim Young Kim has said reforms initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi have had a huge impact on the way world looks at India and praised the progress made in ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign and ‘Clean Ganga’ programme. During a meeting with Modi on the sidelines of the ongoing UN General Assembly session, the World Bank President praised the progress made in ‘Swachh Bharat’ and ‘Clean Ganga’ programme where the World Bank is an important partner, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup said. “He (Jim Young Kim) said that the Prime Minister’s reforms has had a huge impact on the way in which the world looks at India,” Swarup said.

World Bank President Jim Young Kim has said reforms initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi have had a huge impact on the way world looks at India and praised the progress made in 'Swachh Bharat' campaign and 'Clean Ganga' programme.

Kim acknowledged that what was happening in India was actually very different from what had actually happened in different countries. “He maintained that the World Bank wanted to

be a strong partner as India moved forward on these targets,” Swarup said. The Prime Minister spoke on the progress made on the thousands of toilets that has been con-

structed, and also on the international technology that is being sought now on the ‘Clean Ganga’ program, on his ambitious programs for 175 gigawatts of renewable energy, Swarup said.

The two leaders also discussed on the governance structure of the World Bank. “The Prime Minister said that he has always supported strengthening of global governance and reform of the institutions of global governance. But it is a fact also that a country like India was not represented in these structures. So this needed to change,” Swarup said. The World Bank President enquired about India’s position on climate change and then the Prime Minister gave him a lengthy explanation, he added. ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign was launched on October 2 last year to cover 4041 statutory towns, to clean the streets, roads and infrastructure of the country. ‘Clean Ganga’ programme was launched for rejuvenating and making the river Ganga pollution-free.

BlackBerry unveils Android phone ‘Priv’ in new reboot effort Washington, september 26 (aFp): BlackBerry announced plans today to sell an Android-powered smartphone, in the latest reboot effort from the faded star of the sector. The Canadian firm said its would begin selling “Priv,” describe as “a flagship handheld device that will run on the Android operating system with BlackBerry security,” expected to be available later this year. “Priv combines the best of BlackBerry security and

productivity with the expansive mobile application ecosystem available on the Android platform,” said John Chen, executive chairman and chief executive. BlackBerry said however it “remains committed to the BlackBerry 10 operating system, whichenablesindustryleading security and productivity benefits.” The company said it “will continue to develop and enhance the BlackBerry 10 operating system and is confirming plans to release platform updates focused

on security and privacy enhancements,” in March 2016. The BB 10 operating system was unveiled in 2013 as part of an effort to regain market share lost as consumers around the world shifted to devices running on Google Android and Apple’s iOS. But the operating system share has fallen further, and now represents less than one percent of smartphone users. BlackBerry, one of the early pioneers of smartphones, has been struggling for years. It has made several

efforts to find new customer niches, with low-cost devices, tablets and by shifting its emphasis to software and services. In releasing its quarterly results, BlackBerry said it swung to a profit of $51 million for the three months to August 29, compared with a loss of $207 million in the same period a year ago. But the profit came from a one-time credit from an adjustment in the value of some of its debts. Revenues for the period slumped 46 percent from a year ago to USD 490

million. “At the same time, we are focused on making faster progress to achieve profitability in our handset business.” BlackBerry said it sold 800,000 smartphones at an average price of USD 240. That represents a tiny fraction of a global smartphone market of some 300 million per quarter. The company said 15 percent of its revenue came from software and services, 41 percent for hardware, and 43 percent for service access fees.

135,000hp Bloodhound Supersonic car makes global debut

London, september 26 (aFp): Don't want to do your maths homework? A rocket-powered car that could break the world land speed record and travel at over 1,000 miles per hour (1,600 kilometres) per hour could be the solution. The Bloodhound Supersonic Car (SSC) unveiled in London on Thursday is an engineering marvel that its builders hope will inspire a new generation of engineers like the Space Race during the Cold War. With a fighter jet engine and rockets, the sleek 135,000-horsepower car is as powerful as 180 Formula One racing cars and will go faster than a bullet. In 1997, Royal Air Force pilot Andy Green established the current record of 1,228 kilometres per hour - faster than the speed of sound - in the Nevada desert in the United States on board the Thrust SSC. Almost 20 years later, Green is planning to get behind the wheel again and beat his own record. The plan is

to reach 800 miles (1,287 kilometres) per hour next year in South Africa and then shatter a mindbending 1,000 miles per hour threshold in 2017. "We want to set the bar so high that it will be very difficult for anyone to take, it," project director Richard Noble told AFP. Airplane on Four Wheels The 15 million-pound (20 million euro, $23 million) car is a jumble of hitech that relates as much to aeronautics and aerospace as to the automotive industry. The cars has three power plants - a Rolls-Royce EJ200 jet from a Eurofighter Typhoon, a cluster of Nammo hybrid rockets and a Jaguar V8 engine that drives the rocket oxidiser pump. The cockpit looks like the one on a jet, including the oxygen mask. "It's like an airplane but on four wheels," said Mark Blackwell, a technician on the project. Beating the record is a big motivator for the team but is not an end in itself their aim is also to give a

taste for science to a new generation. "We had a meeting with the Ministry of Defence and they said we have a terrible problem - we can't recruit scientist engineers," Noble said. "In the US during 1961 to 1972, the number of PhD achieved in science education increased by 300 percent" because of the space race between the United States and the Soviet Union, he said. More than 100,000 children from 6,000 schools in Britain and 1,000 in South Africa are involved in an education project around the Bloodhound. "Kids respond very well, set up rocket clubs, do more maths," said Kirsty Allpress from the Bloodhound Education Team, which visits schools to talk about the car. Noble said that footage of the car and data relating to the project is all uploaded onto the website and this information is then used by teachers for classwork. "What you've got here is an enormous global online game," he said.

Maruti workers to get Rs 16,800/month average salary hike Five million Volkswagen cars have cheating device neW deLhi, september 26 (agencies): Maruti Suzuki India has successfully reached a wage agreement with workers at its Gurgaon and Manesar plants, under which employees will get an average salary hike of around Rs 16,800 per month spread over the next three years. Further, since the settlement was reached peacefully without any hostility, managing director and CEO Kenichi Ayukawa has also promised to pay Rs 3,000 each to the workers as a one-time incentive. The development bodes well not only because the agreement was signed amicably between the unions and the manage-

ment after gruesome violence three years ago, but also because it would set the ground for peaceful negotiations in the GurgaonManesar belt, home to a large number of auto and auto components manufacturers. Under the three-year agreement, to be implemented with retrospective effect from April this year, the workers will receive 50 per cent of the increased salary in the first year and 25 per cent each in the remaining two years. “For the first time, the unions of both Gurgaon and Manesar plants, including those of Maruti Suzuki Powertrain, reached an amicable

mUmbai, september 26 (agencies): Nearly five million Volkswagen passenger cars have the cheat software that lets its cars pass the stringent US emission tests, VW Passenger Cars brand has said in a statement. Volkswagen AG on Tuesday, had said that nearly 11 million diesel-powered cars, fitted with the Type EA 189 engine, have what is called the “defect device” which lowers emissions when the car detects that it is in a testing environment. The engine later works at full capacity for better performance, in the real world situation, emitting much more nitrogen oxides

than what was recorded in the tests. Volkswagen Passenger Cars in a statement said, “The internal evaluation revealed that approximately five million Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand vehicles are affected worldwide.” Here are a few models that have been confirmed as carrying the device: -- Sixth-generation Volkswagen Golf --Seventh-generation Volkswagen Passat --First-generation Volkswagen Tiguan However the company has clarified that all the new Volk-

those workers who use their own vehicles for seven years. Company sources said the average hike in the salary of workers will be 38 per cent over three years compared with their remuneration in 2014-15. In July 2012, the company’s plant in Manesar was hit by workers’ violence in which an HR executive was killed. The company had to declare a lockout at the plant, resulting in the halting of production for some time. The company subsequently took a number of remedial actions which included an agreement not to involve temporary workers in core production areas.

The agreement is valid from April 2015 to March 31, 2018. Janghu said that the management has also agreed to pay Rs 2,000 per month as transport allowance to

army provides prosthesis to Naga woman Morung Express News

Dimapur | September 26

In humanitarian gesture, the Indian Army under aegis of Spear Corps, Rangapahar, has helped a Naga woman get a new lease of life. 25- year-old Muwala Sangtam, who lost both her upper limbs in an unfortunate incident in 2012, is now fully confident to perform the normal activities, courtesy of the state of the art artificial limbs sponsored by Spear Corps. Muwala Sangtam from Kiphire district was initially treated at Dimapur Civil Hospital. But the artificial limbs she was provided with proved too heavy and cumbersome and she had to discard it after wearing it for a short course of time. After hearing the plight of the girl, the Spear Corps took initiative and the Dimapur Field Hospital, Rangapahar, was given charge to provide her with ar-

tificial prosthesis for both upper limbs through Operation Sadbhavana in the year 2014-15. According to the Army medical doctors, the task proved to be a herculean task as Muwala’s limbs were amputated from the shoulder joints and the Army

Public SPace WORLD TOURISM DAY 2015: 1 BILLION WORLD TOURISM DAY 2015 TOURIST – 1 BILLION OPPORTUNITIES very time we travel, for whatever rea- criteria that are, above all, respectful to people cultural heritage, art, tradition, history, moral son, we are part of a global movement; a both at a community level and to each person, and spiritual values can attract its own share of

E

movement that has the power to drive inclusive development, create jobs and build the sustainable societies we want for our future; a movement that builds mutual understanding and can help us safeguard our shared natural and cultural heritage. Like every year, World Tourism Day is celebrated on September 27. An event promoted annually by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the theme for this years’ commemoration is "One billion Tourist One billion Opportunities" According to the message sent to countries around the world by Secretary-General of UNWTO, Mr. Talef Rifai wrote “More than one billion tourists travel to international destinations every year. These tourists have made tourism a leading economic sector, contributing 10% of global GDP and 6% of the world’s total exports. Yet these big numbers represent more than just economic strength – they reflect tourism’s vast potential and increasing capacity to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges, including socio-economic growth, inclusive development and environmental preservation.” At present, the world is experiencing a diversification in the number of destinations, as anywhere in the world has the potential to become a tourist destination. Therefore, tourism is one of the most viable and sustainable options to reduce poverty in the most deprived areas. If properly developed, it can be a valuable instrument for progress, job creation, infrastructure development and economic growth. As the theme for this year states "one billion tourist one billion opportunities" we can say that tourism appears to be one of the sectors with the most capacity to generate a wide range of “creative” jobs with greater ease. These jobs could benefit the most disadvantaged groups, including women, youth or certain ethnic minorities. It is imperative that the economic benefits of tourism reach all sectors of local society, and have a direct impact on families, while at the same time take full advantage of local human resources. It is also essential that these benefits follow ethical

and avoid “a purely economic conception of society that seeks selfish benefit, regardless of the parameters of social justice.” No one can build his prosperity at the expense of others. The benefits of a tourism promoting “community development” cannot be reduced to economics alone: there are other dimensions of equal or greater importance. Among these include: cultural enrichment, opportunities for human encounter, the creation of “relational goods”, the promotion of mutual respect and tolerance, the collaboration between public and private entities, the strengthening of the social fiber and civil society, the improvement of the community’s social conditions, the stimulus to sustainable economic and social development, and the promotion of career training for young people, to name but a few. The local community must be the main actor in tourism development. They must make it their own, with the active presence of government, social partners and civic bodies. It is important that appropriate coordination and participation structures are created, which promote dialogue, make agreements, complement efforts and establish common goals and identify solutions based on consensus. Tourism development is not to do something “for” the community, but rather, “with” the community. Furthermore, a tourist destination is not only a beautiful landscape or a comfortable infrastructure, but it is, above all, a local community with their own physical environment and culture. It is necessary to promote a tourism that develops in harmony with the community that welcomes people into its space, with its traditional and cultural forms, with its heritage and lifestyles. And in this respectful encounter, the local population and visitors can establish a productive dialogue which will promote tolerance, respect and mutual understanding. The local community should feel called upon to safeguard its natural and cultural heritage, embracing it, taking pride in it, respecting and adding value to it, so that they can share this heritage with tourists and transmit it to future generations. Nagaland being a land with rich resource of

tourist from across the globe. We the people of Nagaland have to work in a organized manner where we understand each other’s capabilities and support each other in the area where one is an expertise and the other needs it. We have a good number of resource who can help in marketing and promotion of Nagaland as a Tourist destination. We can say that communities in Nagaland have opened there door for tourists but do they have the enough promotion, does people around the globe know about it. In this age of technology and social media we are still not utilising the medium of communication and promotion which can generate more attention and outreach to the probable tourist. Hence we still have to work hard in order to achieve our goals of being a sought after tourist destination. Nagaland Hotel & Restaurant Association (NHRA) along with rest of the world community is also celebrating the world tourism day since its inception in the year 2011. Every year at NHRA, we try to involve society and the community in the celebration of World Tourism Day. This is done in quest of promoting Tourism industry as a source of revenue and job creation as well as to let the people know about its benefits. Some of our activities from the past World Tourism Day celebrations are given below:2011: Seminar, on theme “Quality Tourism Management in relation to hotel industry” 2012: We conducted an inter school competition on extempore speech, essay writing, poetry Writing & drawing which were all based on the theme “Prospect and promotion of Tourism of Nagaland” 2013: We organized “cleanliness Drive” and made a face lift by cleaning and painting the Trees at Naga shopping arcade at Super market Dimapur including old flyover in Dimapur. 2014: We celebrated the occasion at Kisama along with Dept. of tourism, Govt. of Nagaland and other stake holders of the Tourism Industry. 2015: Anup Kumar Gupta NHRA Program Co-ordinator

T

he UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) observes the 27th Sept every year as the World Tourism Day. It is a day wherein the value of Tourism and significance of the industry is globally linked to the economy, social, political and culture. Nagaland Tourism industry promoted through the mega Hornbill Festival ever since 2000; pouring crores of money by the Govt on many count attracted criticism instead of capitalising on the platform created by the Government. Sometimes it looks like the locals are more excited tourists than the actual visitors but that’s not a crime. Despite its ups and down, the Hornbill festival today stands the biggest and most popular in the North East India. While the neighbouring states have also evolved or built their festivals around the Hornbill festival which infact is good for people in the travel industry. It may be noted here, there are different types of Tourism and we must ask ourselves what do we have; that may bring the best business besides keeping in mind the aspect of Mass tourism and Alternate tourism even as we plan our Tourism market. There is the Adventure; which of course is my favourite, the culture tourism, the rural tourism, tribal tourism, nature tourism and many more. Shouldn’t we ask if Health tourism? Pilgrimage tourism? Wildlife tourism? Heritage tourism? Sports tourism? Educational tourism? Business tourism? or Leisure tourism? Well we all know the answer, it’s not rocket science to understand our assets. Then why are we not heading towards the desired share of the tourism market. Has there been wasting with our planning, marketing, publicity, training? I agree the hotels don’t get much business other than Hornbill festivals and Govt patronage, but Tourism is bigger. It should bring employment. Alleviate poverty, empower the community besides helping conserve the empowerment. When we look at statistics, tourists travel has increased since 1950s from humble 25 million to 1 billion in 2012. Are we fixing our eyes on these mammoth numbers? or shall we wait for Tour operators from across the country and neighbouring state to offer and share a slice of their pie.

Is Nagaland a tourist first destination? Or a side cake only promoted by neighbouring travel companies. My mind rushes to the transport sector without which the tourist unless walking would not move. Yes, where can I get a trained, experienced and willing to do business transport company. We are not able to promote local taxis and when the Hornbill Festival is full swing; all you see is Taxis with neighbouring registration plying our quickie lipstick job tarmac while local taxis don’t benefit from any tourism industry. Talking about Industry, I wonder why the Govt of Nagaland is yet to consider and contemplate on Tourism Industry subsidy schemes and I would be the happiest man if I ever see a CM Corpus Funded local taxi carrying tourist across Nagaland. I believe Tourism is the only industry in Nagaland that has potential to grow given the right thrust and political commitment. Identify the Tourist circuits without tribal and political considerations, build them at least if not 100%, train the local community to use them effectively, there’s always a budget there. Without training, sensitization and community sense of ownership, even gold and silver won’t mean a thing to us Nagas. Do the publicity and marketing effectively and definitely. If the little hotels are full than we can pitch tents and Camps but let people know and visit Nagaland. Let us train our young people and help them grow with challenges. Nagaland Tourism may not be able to boast of a Heritage building, Educational tourism, Wellness Tourism currently but definitely we have what others don’t and that is the rural tourism, the culture, traditions and the people if not Adventure tourism. Partnership is key to fulfilment, all allied tourism agencies must come together and bond with the Govt efforts and the Dept of Tourism initiatives if the industry is to be promoted and grow to maturity. On the occasion of World Tourism Day 2015, Let us take advantage of the 1 billion opportunities possible only in Tourism Industry as we brace for the Hornbill festival – the Festival of festivals. Vincent Belho, President, Nagaland Tourism Association

LOOMS FOR LOVE When 8-year-old Mia LeRoux’s grandpa took a liking to the bracelets she was wearing, her first instinct was to give them all away. Inspired by the gratitude she received, she started Looms for Love. Mia and her family, along with local children and community, make hand-made crafts for nursing home residents.

Looms for Love also donates Rainbow Loom kits and supplies, as well as bracelets and cards to Ronald McDonald houses. “Ronald McDonald Houses are a home-away-from-home for families whose children are receiving medical care for premature birth, serious injury, illness or surgery at local hospitals,” she says. Kids all over the US have been inspired by Mia’s story and are following in her footsteps. “There are currently kids in in nine states doing what we call “Create and Collect” … they are groups of kids (i.e. Brownie or Girl Scout troops, elementary school kids etc.) making bracelets and either donating to their local charities, or sending the bracelets to us to donate,” explains Tracy. We love what Mia is doing, and we hope she will continue to inspire others to do great things with their Rainbow Looms!

ining out as a family can be a lot of fun -- or it can be a horrifying disaster, if your child's special needs can't be accommodated in a way that helps you keep the peace. With a little preparation and these simple tricks, you can give your mealtime outing the greatest chance at success. You'll also be able to cut and run when you need to.

ia is the founder of Looms for Love, a nonprofit organization dedicated to spreading cheer in hospitals and nursing homes. Mia and her friends create Rainbow Loom bracelets and handmade cards, which they handdeliver to the residents of these facilities. Mia has inspired kids across the country to do the same. Her goal is to grow a nationwide community of caring children who do good deeds and recognize the impact they can have by working together. According to Mia’s mom Tracy LeRoux, Looms for Love is not just about making and giving bracelets; it’s about spending time with the recipients. “The visiting and sharing time is MORE important than the bracelet or card itself,” she says. “The card and bracelets are small tokens of appreciation and something we can leave behind.”

Pick places where your child will be welcome: Dining out is going to be hard enough. Don't add the burden of taking your child someplace where perfect behavior will be a necessity. Save the tony joints for a rare night out with friends or your spouse. There are enough loud kid-friendly restaurants around most neighborhoods to give you adequate choice and your child a little wiggle-room. Be a regular: Children with special needs often thrive on routine, so going to a familiar place may buy you better behavior and less agonizing over what to order. Then, too, if the staff gets to know you, your family may receive more personalized service and more generous understanding. If you find a place that's particularly accommodating, reward them with repeat business. Tipping

generously wouldn't hurt, either. Do some advance research: If you're not sure a restaurant will have something that fits your child's dietary needs or finicky tastes, see if you can find a menu online. Many chain restaurants have Web sites that give nutritional information and other previews of what your mealtime choices will be. If the restaurant you're eyeing has no such online presence, call and speak to a manager, or stop by on your own to preview the menu. Dine at off-times: Frankly, if you're taking your child out for dinner at 8 p.m. on a Friday or Saturday night, you deserve the nightmare of long wait-times, cramped dining rooms, and slow service that you're sure to get. Hit the restaurant early in the evening, and/or on weeknights, for a more leisurely, low-stress dining experience -- and fewer disapproving fellow diners. Ask for a booth: Childcontainment is easier in a booth than at a table. Put your child between an adult body and the wall, or between two adult bodies. If you've brought a big bag of tricks to provide distractions, you should be able to minimize the "standing on seat peering over

the partition at other tables" action. Pack some hand sanitizer, too, so you don't have to stress too severely if your child crawls under the table. Hide the condiments: If the table has bottles of salt and pepper and sugar and ketchup and what-all sitting conveniently in the center of the table where you child just will not stop playing with it, move it. Put it out of your child's reach, put it on a nearby empty table, or ask the server to take it away. Even bland food is more tolerable than spending an entire meal saying put that down! and scooping up spilt spices. Request extra napkins: The napkins the restaurant sets out will probably quickly make their way to the floor, or get messed up by the time the salad course is cleared. Request extra napkins when you order so that you're ready when your child has a face-full of chili or hands full of spaghetti sauce. He who hesitates gets covered with it, you know. Ask for the bill right away: One of the most dangerous moments of restaurant dining comes when your child is needing to get out of there NOW! and you still have to get the wait-

er's attention, get the check, get the change, and leave the tip. Even if the staff is prompt with your requests, that tense time of waiting can make the difference between a successful outing and an unsuccessful one. Request the check when the food comes, pay while you're eating, and be ready for a quick getaway. Ask for to-go containers, too: Most restaurants can bring you containers to fill at the table instead of whisking your order to the kitchen for backstage packing. Have the to-go boxes at your table right from the get-go so that if your child reaches that crisis moment before you're done eating, you can scoop up your leftovers, take off, and finish the meal at home. Use dessert as a reward: Give your child a sweet treat for making it through a meal -- but think seriously about getting it somewhere other than the restaurant. Staying for the dessert course may tax your child's restaurant tolerance to the breaking point, and makes it difficult to settle the bill early on. An ice cream cone on the way home or a stop at a drive-by donut shop gives the same reward without the risk. Treat yourself, too. You survived!

Finding your power in God's lavish love

L

avish is an incredibly rich word. It means “over the top, more than you could imagine”—like when we read, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God” (1 John 3:1, NIV). No matter how great we are, we do not naturally deserve to be called sons and daughters of God. Even if we achieved academic honors in school, the highest promotions in our jobs and every other qualification this world could possibly offer, we would never merit such a gift. Only His free and lavish love gives us the most beautiful title of all—not doctor, not lawyer, not apostle, but son or daughter. We are the family God went out and found. He was so determined to call us sons and daughters that He suffered on a cross and died. Jesus and His Father are one. Whatever Jesus does, the Father does. They act together, and the cross expresses the unity of their love for us. Jesus died so we could be brothers and sisters to one another. Before that, we could not be one family. I have been beaten up, shot at and lied about. People have even tried to strangle me. I am not afraid. To this day I can walk boldly into gangs of armed thugs and tell them to stop in the name of Jesus. I expect them to drop their knives. Generally they turn surprisingly nice. Sometimes they look at me and apologize. Where did this confidence come from? It came from knowing the Father loves me. Because I truly know that I am loved, I am not afraid. God wants your ministry to flow from the realization that you are a beloved child of God. In that place you don’t worry too much about how people see you. You don’t worry too much about whether they are nice or mean. You don’t even worry about whether they love you or hate you. You don’t worry because you’re simply going to love them and love Him. This comes from know-

ing who He is and what He thinks of you. This is what it means to grasp you are a child of God. But what if we make messy mistakes? What if it turns out we are still flawed people who can be difficult to get along with? Will He keep on loving us then? We have taken in thousands of children to live with us over the years; one of them was a particular rascal. If he could find something wrong to do, he would do it. I asked God what to do about this one. God told me to love him. I sensed the Lord saying He wanted me to give him some time and pray every day for him. So that is what I and the other caretakers did. For a long time we could see no progress. Despite everything, this boy was always very charismatic, and after a while he managed to move to the United Kingdom.

When Shorter Is Sweeter

ometimes a long service can be problematic for both worshipers and leaders. I was talking with a friend recently who had attended a fundraiser dinner banquet at a local hotel for a Christian nonprofit ministry. After dinner was finished, the program began with a local church’s worship team leading some songs. And when I say “some songs,” I mean six or seven songs. Half an hour worth of songs. In addition, most of the songs were unfamiliar to anyone who didn’t attend this worship team’s church. My friend described an awkward scene: a worship leader who kept going on and on, the back half of the room getting tired and sitting down, and the front half of the room unaware of this development and continuing to stand. When the worship leader finished, there was a subtle sigh of relief. I wasn’t there, I don’t know the worship leader, and I don’t know who asked him to lead songs and how long they asked him to go. I can imagine a scenario in which someone asks a worship leader to “lead a few songs for 20 minutes or so,” not knowing that that can actually feel quite long at a fund-raising dinner and that the words “or so” are hardly ever taken to mean “less.” And I’ve had my share of worship leading experiences when I look around the room and can tell that there are some people who are just not enjoying themselves at all. Maybe it’s because I’m going too long or doing songs they don’t know, but maybe the problem is with them. Who knows. But even though there’s a lot I don’t know about this particular situation (i.e., any real details), it still reminds me of an important worship leading principle: Sometimes shorter is

Scripture passage: Romans 7:18-24 I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do--this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Summary of Paul’s message: In Paul's inner being the divine law is welcome and brings delight, but that which manifests itself in the bodily members is the law of sin. There is a state of war, and he finds himself a captive to the imperious operation of sin. The agony of this unhappy condition comes out in the cry “What a wretched man I am!” It is a powerful and moving cry. Since Paul is unable to help himself he must look elsewhere. In answering this cry of desperation, the apostle does not say, “Who will rescue me from this body of death?” but “What will rescue me from this body of death?” There is deliverance, provided by God through Jesus Christ, for his sinlessness and triumph over evil assure him that deliverance is possible. The experience pictured here is deliberately presented in such a way as to demonstrate what the situation would indeed be if someone who is faced with the demands of the law and the power of sin in his life were

sweeter. If given the choice to go too long or too short, I’ll choose too short every time. I’d much rather leave people wanting more, as opposed to leaving them wanting me to be quiet. Every church, every service, every fundraising dinner and every event is different. If and when you’re asked to lead worship for any one of those—it’s your responsibility to find out from whomever is in charge exactly what your parameters are. But just because you’re given 30 minutes doesn’t mean you should take all of them. Maybe sometimes you should. Maybe sometimes you’ll go longer if that’s what works. But sometimes, even though you’re given 30 minutes, it’s actually better to go 15. I’ll tend to take up all the minutes I’m allotted on a Sunday morning, or when I’m leading a service or event for a group of people whom I know and who know me. But if I’m leading an unfamiliar group, or leading music at a dinner banquet, I’ll usually plan on erring on the side of brevity and familiarity. It’s hard to go wrong with either. The average song is three to four minutes long. Add in repeats, transitions, prayers, etc., an average song during a time of corporate worship might take five minutes or more. When you’re planning a set of songs, plan on each song taking five minutes. This way you’re building in a buffer for yourself. It’s always awkward when a guest overstays their welcome. It’s not that you don’t enjoy their presence, but it’s time for them to move on so that you can also move on. The same rule applies to worship leaders. Don’t overstay your welcome. Shorter is sweeter.

Recently, when I was speaking in the U.K., I saw this spiritual son again. At once I was startled to see how powerfully the presence of God was resting on him. When he came up to me, he started shaking and weeping in my arms. In broken English he said, “Thank you, Mama. For not stop loving me.” Our joy in this son was not so much in seeing him graduate from school, though we were very happy when he did. Our joy was seeing him filled with the presence of God. Our joy was seeing him come home to the Father’s house and step into the spirit of adoption. That boy—now a man—knows who he is. He is a son. He knows better than most that God loves him no matter how many times he might have lied, stolen, beaten up innocents or committed adultery. He is loved because of the in-

credible grace of God that comes down to call each of us sons and daughters. None of us deserve it. We simply have it. Your heavenly Father loves you the same way. He wants you, no matter what you do or how you fail. This is the love He spoke over us when He sent His Son. It is what Jesus poured out of the cross. It is the thing the church must demonstrate to the world. Love so lavish can never die. Because of this love, we have become children of God. Even if we do not yet believe it, this is what we truly are (1 John 3:1). We have had children who, for the longest time, would not believe they are truly loved. This particular son had been with us for 14 years before he actually got it. That is a lot of waiting and a lot of pain. If the Holy Spirit ever touches people in such a way that they realize they are sons or daughters instantly, we ought to celebrate it as a mighty miracle—because sometimes it takes 14 years. You are a son or a daughter right now—today. Your real identity is in this truth. It doesn’t matter what people do or do not call you. It doesn’t matter where you do or do not sit. You are a son. You are a daughter. There is no more precious position to which you might ever aspire. To be a son or daughter of God also means you are royalty. This is the greatest of privileges, but it is also an awesome responsibility. If you are truly thankful to God and want to please Him with all your heart, you must do more than just recognize your own authority. You must use it. He asks you to give love as freely as you have received it—not just to those who deserve it but also to everyone He puts in front of you. Adapted from Birthing the Miraculous by Heidi Baker. Sometimes God’s promises seem bizarre, implausible, and even crazy, but no matter how impossible they seem we can respond with a yielded “yes” even as Mary did when Gabriel gave her the news that she would birth Jesus. This book weaves true stories from Heidi’s life and ministry to show you how you can become a catalyst for God’s glory on this earth.

Burned alive in the womb, she miraculously survived a failed abortion Mark Ellis he was born weighing only two pounds, with cerebral palsy, and grotesque burn marks covering most of her body. But she should not have been born at all because she is one of a very few human beings to survive a saline abortion. “After 18 hours of being burned in my mother’s womb, I was delivered alive in an abortion clinic in Los Angeles,” Gianna Jessen, 38, testified in a congressional hearing September 9th. “If abortion is about women’s rights, then what were mine?” she asked. The House Judiciary Committee is probing Planned Parenthood’s activities related to the harvesting and sale of fetal body parts, based on 10 undercover videos released recently by the Center for Medical Progress. Jessen, born at 30-weeks of pregnancy to a 17-year-old mom, became a prolife activist after her adoptive mom conveyed the truth to her when she was 12. “I am alive because of the Power of Jesus Christ alone. In whom I live, move, and have my being. Without Him I would have nothing; with Him, I have all,” Jessen said in her testimony. “Thankfully, the abortionist was not at work yet,” she recounted to the committee. Her birth happened at 6 a.m., three hours ahead of the abortionist’s scheduled arrival. “If he had been there, he would have ended my life with strangulation, suffocation, or leaving me there to die. Instead a nurse called an ambulance, and I was rushed to the hospital.” “There were many witnesses to my entry into this world,” she told the BBC. “My biological mother and other young girls at the clinic, who also awaited the death of their babies, were the first to greet me

S

and I am told this was a hysterical moment.” Jessen was hospitalized for three months before she was placed in foster care. She was adopted at the age of four. Doctors discovered Jessen had cerebral palsy when she was 17-months-old, because her brain was starved of oxygen during the failed abortion. “The doctors said I was in a horrible state,” she told The Telegraph. “They said I would never be able to lift up my head, but eventually I did. “Then they said I would never be able to sit up straight, but I sat up straight. Then they said I would never be able to walk, but by the age of three I was walking with a frame and leg braces.” In 2004, she ran her first marathon in seven-and-a-half hours. While Jessen has forgiven her biological mother, she has not developed a relationship with her. She remains very close to her adoptive mom, Dianna DePaul. Jessen’s life was the inspiration for the movie “October Baby,” which grossed more than $5 million, and received high marks from many observers.

Why cannot Christians walk a victorious life? sin and how to walk in victory. Goliath, a monstrous man nine feet tall, went out before the army of Israel and challenged them to send out their champion that they may fight. Goliath's challenge given every morning and evening is a representation of the struggle many Christians face. They feel they are fighting for their very lives in a battle against sin, and are losing. The Christian should be in control. But instead of sin being our servant, we are still the servants of sin. The Christian has no joy and lives in fear because of this intense battle. They are afraid to step out and fight for fearing of failing again.

to try to solve his problem independently of the power of Christ and the enablement of the Spirit. That is, Paul is hypothetically describing what life under the law and sin would be like if it was seen according to the logic of its nature. The writer knows God personally, but purposely and deliberately views life from the standpoint of his natural self in order to expose it as meaningless, empty of lasting value. The state of many Christians today: Millions of Christians across the world are living in defeat. They are slaves to sin, to that one thing which has ensnared them, and they cannot obtain and keep the victory. They love the Lord and long with all their hearts to please him and to serve him in righteousness. Yet there is that one thing which haunts them, which keeps them from living in victory and joy. That one thing comes in many forms. It could be pornography, homosexuality, lust, bitterness, pride, alcohol or drug addiction, or a gossiping tongue. But the Bible declares that sin shall not have dominion over us, nor that we should be servants of sin. So why do many Christians continue to live in bondage to sin? The words of Paul explain the state of many Christians today. They desire to do good, but cannot. And they do the evil thing they desire not to do. They do not understand how to perform that which is good. They delight in God's law and wish to serve the Lord in holiness, but there is a war going on inside them, bringing them into captivity to the law of sin. Paul's statement echoes

Selie Visa the words of many Christians living in despair. They cried out, “What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?” The struggle with the bondage of sin: Many Christians continue to live in bondage to sin. They live from failure to failure, no matter what they try. The primary reason is that victory over sin is not something which we neither strive for nor can obtain through our own efforts. Victory is something which has already been won for us by Jesus Christ through the Cross of Calvary. In the story of David and Goliath, we have a type of the Christian's struggle with

Fighting the giant with our own armour: David was a young man, probably in his teens. David volunteered to represent Israel and to fight Goliath. David refused to go out and fight Goliath in Saul's armour, saying, "I cannot go in these because I am not used to them." This is where many Christians fail in their struggle against sin. They attempt to fight against it using man's methods. Their pastor tells them to "try harder." How do you try harder? Or they buy the latest self-help book or they try a method that happened to work for another person. Yet, no matter what they try, victory remains elusive. David took off Saul's armor, and went out to face Goliath armed with only a staff, his sling, and five smooth stones. David said to Goliath, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty,

Gang members being converted through California schools’ bible classes Veronica Neffinger

tudents are coming to Christ during Bible clubs in California public high schools. Brian Barcelona is the leader of One Voice Student Missions and a speaker at many Bible club meetings. Although public schools aren’t often welcoming of the Bible, many teachers at the California high schools where the Bible clubs take place have encouraged Barcelona to continue holding the meetings because they are seeing positive change in the students. Barcelona stated in an interview with CBN News that during one Bible club meeting even former gang members came to Christ. “And I will never forget when I finished, there was this awkward silence in the room,” Barcelona stated, “and this gang banger stands to his feet and he looks at me and says, 'What do I have to do to be saved?'" Many students are accepting Christ and finding renewed hope through the Bible clubs which are now taking place in over 20 schools and reaching more than 2,000 students. “I love that they bring Jesus into my life because now I am so much more positive, the way I see things, than before," student Ruby Navarrete said. "It has just changed me so deeply. I love Bible club now.” Another student, Valeria Bonoan, stated, "They encouraged me to seek God more and to seek this deeper relationship and I really learned a lot and gained wisdom from their teaching.” The public schools are offering little resistance to the presence of the Bible clubs. Barclona recalls principals pulling him into their office and saying, “Look, I don't know what you are saying (in) these meetings. I don't know what you are doing in these meetings, but whatever you are doing, keep doing it because gangs have been coming to our counseling offices with kids saying, 'We don't want to be a part of our gang anymore. Help us.'" Barcelona says that he became a Christian in high school at a meeting similar to the Bible clubs at which he now speaks. His enthusiasm and authenticity likely resonate with students, but Barcelona claims that God is using him not because he is so gifted, but because he is available.

the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied” (1 Samuel 17:45). Saul's armor would not work for David, and man's armor would not work for Goliath either. Victorious through faith in Christ: We know the results of the duel between David and Goliath. Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, David slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell face down on the ground. (1 Samuel 17:49). The picture here is not pretty. David takes Goliath's sword and cuts his head off. But you are in a battle for your life against sin. The battle is not ours to win. Our armour, our weapons, our methods are useless against the giants we face. David, with the Spirit of the Lord upon him, came against his giant clothed only in the armor of God. The battle is the Lord's and he will deliver the enemy into our hands. This is the key to victory. Your place as a Christian is not with a giant towering over you, but it is with you towering over a defeated and dead foe! The sooner we lay our weapons and methods down, and trust in the Lord and what he has already done for us at Calvary, the sooner we will walk in victory, and keep the victory. The writer of Hebrews commented, “And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and the prophets, who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies.” (Hebrews 11:32-34).

India strongly pitches for UNSC reforms, outlines green goals New York, September 26 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi pressed for reforms in the UN Security Council in order to maintain its relevance and credibility as an international body and for proper representation in the core UN body so that countries can strive to reach their goals more effectively. In an address on Friday at the UN Sustainable Development Summit, Modi, speaking in Hindi, also outlined India's goals for fighting climate change and said he hoped developed countries would make separate provisions for fighting climate change without slotting it under the head of development. Making a strong pitch for reforms in the UNSC and its expanded membership, Modi said: "Change is necessary in the UNSC in order to maintain its relevance and credibility, as also proper representation by countries so that we are able strive for our goals more effectively." Modi spoke of the need for reducing dependence on energy so that the world can strive towards "sustainable consumption". He suggested a global education programme to prepare future generations to protect the environment to make it sustainable. "I hope that developed countries will fulfill their financial commitments towards development and climate change without in anyway putting the two under the same head," he said. Modi outlined India's climate change goals saying he represents a culture that calls the earth "mother" and that India over the next seven years will create 175 GW of renewable energy capacity. "I represent that culture that calls the earth Ma.. The Vedas says that the earth is the mother and we are its sons," he said in Hindi at the summit. He said that India has outlined ambitious programmes to fight climate change. Besides creating 175 GW renewable energy capacity, the country would also stress on energy efficien-

cy, tree plantation, coal tax, clean environment, cleaning up of rivers, waste to wealth movement and sustainable development. He outlined the government's programmes towards financial inclusion, saying 180 million new bank accounts had been opened, which he termed as the biggest empowerment for the poor. He said the government was working towards a Pension Yojana to ensure pension reaches the poor. Modi said earlier there was talk only of the private sector or public sector, but his government has focused on the "personal sector", like individual enterprise through micro finance, innovation, start ups, creating opportunities and providing clean water, power, health, education, hygiene for all -- all that is needed to live a decent life. He said the government has fixed a time limit for the programmes, and added that women empowerment is a major part of his government's policy through "Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao" (Save the girl child, educate the girl child), which the government has made into a household mantra. Another was to make agriculture more remunerative by connecting fields to markets. Modi said his government is taking steps to mitigate the agrarian crisis, revive the manufacturing sector, improve the services sector, and stressing on investments in the infrastructure sector and focusing on creating smart cities, which are sustainable and the centres of development. He said India's path is linked to sustainable development as it is linked to India's tradition of calling the earth Ma. He said in the UN international cooperation should be at the centre of sustainable development and to fight climate change. "The principle of common but differentiated responsibilities is the bedrock of our enterprise for a sustainable world," he stressed. He called for international partnership to fight climate change.

Maruti Suzuki workers clash at plant; two arrested, over 500 booked GUrGAoN, September 26 (IANS): Workers at Maruti Suzuki's plant in Manesar in Haryana's Gurgaon district clashed on Saturday over the recent increase in wages of some employees, police said. Two former employees, who were sacked earlier for violence, were arrested for rioting, while more than 500 people have been booked. Regular and casual workers at the plant clashed after the casual workers staged a protest at the main gate. Police intervened and a few workers were injured following a baton-charge. Around 1,000 casual workers alleged that their union leaders reached an agreement with the company management ignoring their interests. They said their salaries were not increased despite working and performing like the permanent employees.

Social activist Medha Patekar arrested in Allahabad LUckNow, September 26 (IANS): Social activist Medha Patekar was arrested in Allahabad on Saturday, police said. She was on her way to Kachari village when police tried to prevent her from going ahead, fearing tension in the area. As she refused to abort the plan, senior police officials arrested her and took her to the police lines. Patkar was going to attend an event in the village on death anniversary of a social activist Banwari Lal Sharma and was later also due to meet families of some people arrested for opposing the land acquisition in the area. District Magistrate of Allahabad Sanjay Kumar on Friday night had urged the social activist to cancel her visit, as prohibitory orders were in place there. Woman translator of Kalam's book barred from dais at release function thrISSUr, September 26 (IANS): An event here in Kerala to release the Malayalam translation of former president late A.P.J. Abdul Kalam's last book was cancelled on Saturday following protests after the woman translator was asked to stay away from the dais. Angry youth organisations of various political parties and a large number of women protested after Sreedevi S. Kartha, who translated Kalam's book Transcendence My Spiritual Experience with Pramukh Swamiji, was asked to stay off the dais. On Friday, Kartha posted on Facebook that the publisher, Current Books, told her that the function's chief guest, Brahma Vihari Das Swamiji, the representative of Pramukh Swamiji, said that there should not be any woman on the dais. Angry protests erupted after the post, forcing the organisers to call off the event. On Saturday, Kartha said: "This is nothing but a fascist attitude. I was invited to take part and later when the Swamiji put up conditions, I was asked to keep away by the publishers." Malayalam writer M.T. Vasudevan Nair and Arun Tiwari, the book's co-writer, were among those invited for the function. Nair came to know about the protests at the venue and did not turn up, while Tiwari was present at the function. Swamiji and his associate were forced to keep away from the venue.

ban, modi discusses trust deficit, climate change Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Secretary-General Ban Kimoon held wide-ranging discussions Friday during which building trust in climate change negotiations emerged as a key factor for achieving the antiglobal warming component of the UN sustainable development goals (SDG). Modi raised the issue of "trust deficit" with developed countries having achieved their level of growth appear to use the climate issue to keep the developing countries from improving the living standards of their people under the pretext of controlling carbon emissions, according to Vikas Swarup, the External Affairs Ministry spokesman. Making a call for climate justice, Modi said that developing countries should be allowed to develop and placing restrictions and controls on development was not the way to go. Positive measures like concessional financing of climate change projects and transfer of technology were needed to promote sustainable development instead of negative ones that focus on capping carbon emissions, he said. Ban appeared to recognise these concerns. "The Secretary-General emphasised the need for climate change finance as a key to building trust between developed and developing countries," according to a statement by Ban's spokesperson. He spoke of the tremendous importance of India's role in renewable energy, and urged Modi to continue to show strong global leadership on this issue, the statement said. Ban commended India's "influential role" supporting the democratic transitions in Sri Lanka and Nepal, the UN statement said. During his meeting with Ban that preceded his speech to the summit on sustainable development, Modi presented Ban with a book, "India and the United Nations: A Photo Journey, 1945 to 2015" edited by Asoke Kumar Mukerjee, India's Permanent Representative.

G4 'legitimate candidates' for permanent UNSC members: Joint statement New York, September 26 (IANS): The G4 countries of India, Brazil, Germany and Japan on Saturday emphasised that they were "legitimate candidates for permanent membership" in an expanded and reformed UN Security Council and supported each other's candidature. After a special summit meeting, convened by India, the countries in a joint statement "also reaffirmed their resolve to continue contributing to the fulfillment of the purposes and principles of the UN Charter". The four countries -- among the 10 biggest economies in the world -- pledged to work together with all member states of the UN and to accelerate outreach towards achieving an early and meaningful reform of the Security Council. "They expressed determination to redouble their efforts towards securing concrete outcomes during the 70th session of the General Assembly." India has convened the summit of the four countries -- represented by their leaders Prime Minister Nar-

endra Modi, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff. The G4 leaders stressed that a more representative, legitimate and effective Security Council was needed more than ever to address the global conflicts and crises, which had spiralled in recent years. They shared the view that this can be achieved by reflecting the realities of the international community in the 21st century, where more member states have the capacity and willingness to take on major responsibilities with regard to maintenance of international peace and security, said the joint statement. The leaders noted with concern that no substantial progress has been made since the 2005 World Summit where all the heads of state and government had unanimously supported "early reform" of the Security Council as an essential element of the overall effort to reform the United Nations.

The four countries strongly emphasised that the "process underway in the UN to bring about the reform of the Security Council should be conducted, given its urgency, in a fixed time frame". The leaders noted with appreciation the efforts of the member states in moving towards text-based negotiations. They welcomed, in particular, the efforts undertaken by the member states of the African Group, CARICOM (Caribbean Community and Common Market) and the L.69 Group (a group of developing countries from Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia and the Pacific). They supported Africa's representation in both the permanent and non-permanent membership in the Security Council. They also noted the importance of adequate and continuing representation of small and medium-sized member states, including the Small Island Developing States, in an expanded and reformed Council, the statement said.

Normalcy prevails in Kashmir on 2nd day of Eid Modi running government

with hate agenda: Congress

Internet services remains suspended SrINAGAr, September 26 (ptI): Normal situation prevailed on the second day of Eid today in the Kashmir valley, where clashes yesterday broke out between stone-pelting mobs and security forces. "The law and order situation across Kashmir is peaceful. No untoward incident was reported from anywhere," a policeman said. He said the situation is being monitored and police will take a call on revoking or extending the ban on internet services in the evening. People today visited their relatives to exchange greetings and distribute sacrificial meat. However, markets remained closed in view of the festival. Though only a skeletal public transport was plying, traffic jams were reported from various routes including Srinagar Airport

road. Traffic moved slow at many places, including the stretch between Jehangir Chowk and Rambagh on the airport road, where a flyover is being constructed. Eid being a public holiday, only a small number of traffic policemen was present on the roads. Yesterday, clashes were reported from Eidgah, Rajouri Kadal and some other

areas of old Srinagar city and a few places in Anantnag district. However, in rest of the Valley, the festival was celebrated peacefully against the backdrop of a raging controversy over recent High Court order for implementation of an old law that bans slaughter and sale of beef. Authorities also placed most of the separatist leaders, including the heads of both

factions of Hurriyat conference, under house arrest. Fearing communal tension, police asked the internet service providers to snap all data services, including BSNL's Broadband, till 10 pm tonight. Internet services were snapped since yesterday morning till tonight as authorities apprehended misuse of social media to create communal tension over the beef ban.

New DeLhI, September 26 (IANS): With the CBI and Enforcement Directorate raiding Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh's Delhi and Shimla houses, Congress on Saturday said "Prime Minister Narendra Modi's hate agenda against Congress reached its zenith". Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, in a statement said his party "stoutly and strongly deprecates, abhors and condemns the politics of revenge and vendetta unleashed by Modi" and the BJP government was "converting CBI as a BJP's investigation bureau against political opponents". "These fascist tendencies are the very antithesis of healthy democracy which Congress party stands for. Our resolve to fight the dictatorial, autocratic and vendetta-driven politics of Narendra Modi and his ilk only becomes stronger and more resolute by such lowly acts of partisan political vendet-

ta," Azad said. Stating that there was nothing new in the allegations made against Virbhadra Singh, Azad said the same unsubstantiated allegations regarding his (Virbhadra Singh) income tax returns were raised by the BJP during the 2012 assembly elections to tarnish his image and spoil the prospects of the Congress party winning the elections. He said it was being done to divert public attention from issues of corruption and BJP leaders' impropriety in Modigate, Vyapam scam, Chhattisgarh PDS and bank scams, Rajasthan mining scam, Maharashtra chikki and tender scams, fake degrees scam and many other cases. "Will prime minister answer as to why he did not register a case and conduct raids on his Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and others involved in Modigate scam?" Azad asked.

Visit monuments across Countdown for launch of ASTROSAT satellite begins India for free on Sunday Sept 27 is World Tourism Day New DeLhI, September 26 (IANS): Indians can make trips to over 200 monuments and museums across the country for free on the occasion of World Tourism Day on Sunday, an official said. According to an official at the ministry of tourism, a proposal regarding this was cleared by the Minister of State for Tourism and Culture Mahesh Sharma recently. Some of the world heritage sites recognised by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco), like the highly visited Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, and monuments in Khajuraho would have free entry, the official added. This would not be applicable in the state of Bihar, the official said. India would also announce on Sunday the set-

ting up of a medical and wellness board to facilitate foreign tourists for availing quality healthcare services in the country, the minister said earlier. The ministry in July said the Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) in India have registered a 1.8% growth compared to June last year, with the US contributing the highest number of tourists. The FTAs were registered as 5.13 lakh in June 2015, compared to 5.05 lakh during the same period in 2014. September 27 has been globally recognised by the UN as World Tourism Day since 1980. With this year's theme of 'One billion tourists, one billion opportunities', it emphasises the impact of the sector on economic growth, job creation and development, according to the UN World Tourism Organization.

b e N G A L U r U, S e p tember 26 (ptI): The 50-hour countdown for the September 28 launch of PSLV-C30 carrying ASTROSAT satellite for the first dedicated Indian astronomy mission aimed at studying celestial objects has begun, ISRO said. The countdown activity of PSLV-C30/ASTROSAT Mission started at 08:00 hours today, Indian Space Research Organisation said. PSLV-C30 carrying ASTROSAT along with six other co-passengers, one satellite each from Indonesia and Canada, and four nano satellites from the US is scheduled for launch on September 28 at 10 am from the space port of Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. Mission Readiness Review (MRR) committee and Launch Authorisation Board (LAB) that met yesterday had cleared the launch of PSLV-C30. Commenting on the launch, ISRO Chairman

A.S. Kiran Kumar had recently said, “It is one of the first scientific missions which will be available to the Indian researcher community as an observation opportunity. ASTROSAT is India’s first dedicated multi-wavelength space observatory. One of its unique features is that it enables the simultaneous multi-wavelength observations of various astronomical objects with a single satellite, ISRO said. ASTROSAT will observe the universe in optical, ultraviolet, low and high energy X-ray regions of the electromagnetic spectrum, whereas most other scientific satellites are capable of observing a narrow range of wavelength band. ASTROSAT with a liftoff mass of about 1,513 kg will be launched into a 650 km orbit inclined at an angle of 6 deg to the equator by PSLV-C30. According to ISRO, after injection into Orbit, the two solar panels

of ASTROSAT will automatically be deployed in quick succession. The spacecraft control centre at Mission Operations Complex (MOX) of ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) at Bengaluru will manage the satellite during its mission life. ISRO said the scientific objectives of ASTROSAT mission are to understand high energy processes in binary star systems con-

taining neutron stars and black holes, to estimate magnetic fields of neutron stars and to study star birth regions and high energy processes in star systems lying beyond our galaxy. The mission is also to detect new briefly bright Xray sources in the sky and to perform a limited deep field survey of the universe in the ultraviolet region. ASTROSAT scheduled for five years of flight carries four X-ray payloads, one UV telescope and a charge particle monitor. Apart from ISRO, four other Indian institutions – Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics and Raman Research Institute-are involved in payload development. Two of the payloads are in collaboration with Canadian Space Agency and University of Leiscester, UK, ISRO said.

World leaders adopt expansive UN goals to tackle global woes Quotations on the UN new global goals

United nations, september 26 (aFp): World leaders on Friday pledged to end extreme poverty within 15 years, adopting an ambitious set of UN goals to be backed up by trillions of dollars in development spending. ‘sign of Hope’ Pope Francis welcomed the new global agenda as an "important sign of hope" in his speech to the UN General Assembly and urged leaders to deliver on their promise to transform the world by 2030. Making his first address to the United Nations, the pontiff sounded a note of warning, saying pledges were worthless without the determination to follow through. "Solemn commitments, however, are not enough, even though they are a necessary step toward solutions," the pope said as he urged leaders to take "concrete steps and immediate measures" to protect the environment and end exclusion. Billed as the most comprehensive anti-poverty plan ever, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 targets were adopted at the start of a summit that capped three years of tough negotiations. They will replace the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) that expire this year and will apply to both developing and developed countries. The new UN agenda aims to end poverty, ensure healthy lives, promote education and combat climate change, at a cost of between $3.5 and $5 trillion per year until 2030. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon described the plan as a "to-do list for people and planet" that laid out a "universal, integrated and transformative vision for a better world." "The true test of commitment to agenda 2030 will be implementation," Ban told leaders. "We need action from everyone, everywhere." Teenage Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai urged leaders to zero in on promoting education, which she described as "the real investment the world needs and what world leaders must do." Taking time away from Europe's refugee crisis, German Chancellor Angela Merkel applauded the new goals but stressed that peace was a "key prerequisite" for development. Millions of refugees and migrants are

United nations, september 26 (tHomson reUters FoUndation): Leaders from 193 nations adopted an ambitious new set of global goals on Friday to combat poverty, inequality and climate change in the most comprehensive effort ever by the United Nations to tackle the world's ills. Following are some key quotes about the U.N's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) approved at a three-day summit that opened on Friday with an address from Pope Francis: POPE FRANCIS: • "We cannot permit ourselves to postpone "certain agendas" for the future. The future demands of us critical and global decisions in the face of world-wide conflicts which increase the number of the excluded and those in need." • "Our world demands of all government leaders a will which is effective, practical, constant, with concrete steps and immediate measures for preserving and improving the natural environment and thus putting an end as quickly as possible to the phenomenon of social and economic exclusion, with its baneful consequences." BAN KI-MOON, U.N. Secretary-General: • "The 2030 Agenda compels us to look beyond national boundaries and short-term interests and act in solidarity for the long-term." • "They are a to-to list for people and planet, and a blueprint for success."

fleeing "raw terror and violence", Merkel said, before adding, "We must tackle the causes of flight." Immediately after their three-day summit, world leaders open a General Assembly debate on Monday, with the war in Syria and Europe's migration crisis set to take center stage. Keeping promises Much attention has focused on ending extreme poverty for an estimated 836 million people still struggling on the margins of survival, mostly in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. Billions of dollars in development aid will be redirected to meet the targets, but

the United Nations also wants to tap into local sources of financing through improved revenue collection. In his first UN address, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari vowed to "plug all loopholes" allowing corrupt capital flight and to "prevent oil theft" that is undermining Africa's largest economy. The global goals call for improved transparency in oil-producing countries to clamp down on corruption and ensure that revenues from natural resources are used to improve the lives of citizens. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose government has yet to announce its action plan for climate change, declared that helping his coun-

Nepal considers rationing oil & fuel as protesters block trucks KatHmandU, se ptember 26 (reUters): Nepal is considering rationing oil and fuel, a Nepal Oil Corp spokesman said on Saturday, after hundreds of trucks were held up this week at the India border when protesters against a new constitution gathered to block the road. Nepal adopted the charter last Sunday to promote unity and stability after years of civil war, but its demarcation of provinces has upset people in Nepal's south who fear the new federal structure will marginalise them. At least 40 people, mostly protestors, have been killed in

violent clashes since August. About 900 trucks carrying food, fuel and other items were lined up on the Indian side of the RaxaulBirgunj border on Saturday, said Kamlesh Kumar, assistant commissioner of customs at the border point, as protestors from the Madhesi Morcha party blocked the road in Nepal for a third day. "If we do ration petrol and oil, we can manage for a couple of weeks," said Deepak Baral, a Nepal Oil Corp spokesman. Nepalese officials, however, pinned blame for the logjam on India, Nepal's southern neigh-

bour and biggest trading partner, which has been drawn into the political crisis after criticising Nepal's political leadership for rushing through the constitution despite the dissent. "India has closed the border," said Rograj Pant, a customs official at the Raxaul-Birgunj border in Nepal. "There are no goods coming across for (the protestors) to block." Asked to comment on Nepalese worries that India had imposed an informal blockade, India's external affairs ministry spokesman Vikas Swarup said in an email on Saturday: "No, we have not."

Man strikes it rich with whale vomit London, september 26 (ians): Beachcombers dream of finding treasures as they stroll along sandy beaches, but one dog walker in Wales struck gold as he exercised his pet - and was on Friday $16,700 richer as he found whale vomit. His rare find was a 1.1 kg chunk of whale vomit, known as ambergris, and it sparked a frenzy of interest when it came up for sale Friday at an auction house in northern England, reported Xinhua. The whale vomit is used in the perfume industry, making it very valuable and a prized treasure. It is used to enhance the scent or prolong the duration with which a fragrance lasts. The auction house placed an estimate of between $7,600 and $10,600 on the lump of yellow and black ambergris, which was just 20 centimeters in length. About 50 people were in the auction house in Macclesfield when the item came up, and as the estimate was exceeded it came down to two bidders eager to get their hands on the sale item. Neither of the bidders were in the room, one was a telephone bidder the other was following the sale on the internet. The auctioneers would not disclose details of

the telephone bidder, a private collector, who won the race. The finder of the object also decided to keep his identity private, not even prepared to disclose the location of the beach where he made his remarkable find. The auction house had the item checked and estimated that it had been in the sea for about 50 years. All that is known is the ambergris was found on a beach on the island of Anglesey in North Wales. Ambergris is formed in the digestive system of a sperm whale and is passed either as vomit or as part of the faeces. Scientists believe it is used to coat irritating objects in the whale's intestines. Auctioneer Adam Partridge said he was "elated" at the sale, adding: "Somebody brought this smelly waxy rugby ball-shaped lump to us and asked us to sell it for them. "There are many things which can be mistaken for ambergris - fat, rubber and palm oil amongst others - but after doing some research and consulting the authorities on such things, we found out that what we had was indeed very valuable. We've had lots of unusual items pass through the doors over the years, but this is by far the weirdest."

In Lalitpur, a city south of Kathmandu, hundreds of motorcycles were lined up at a petrol station, anticipating a fuel shortage. Reshma Shrestha, a restaurant owner nearby, said she had about a month's supplies to keep her business running. "But we won't be able to go on like this for too much longer," she said. Earlier in the week, the government asked China to hasten the reopening of two border crossings, according to a report in the Republica newspaper. They have been closed since two earthquakes killed over 9,000 people in Nepal this spring.

try's poor will have "great consequences for the sustainable development of our beautiful planet." It is unlikely that all countries will achieve all of the goals, but aid groups say they will provide benchmarks for governments in every area of development. Jamie Drummond, executive director for global strategy at the ONE Campaign, described the global goals as a "citizen's scorecard, to hold governments accountable for delivery." "The key missing ingredient is political will," said Drummond. "We have a great history of promise-making at the UN, but the question is whether the promise is ever kept."

MALALA YOUSAFZAI, Nobel Peace laureate, education activist: • "Promise us that you will keep your commitments and invest in our future. Promise that every child will have the right to safe, free and quality primary and secondary education. This is the investment the world needs and what world leaders must do." SALIL SHETTY, Secretary-General of Amnesty International: • "We cannot blame people for being sceptical when they see yet another summit declaration. There is a huge gap between the world we live in and the world we want. These goals represent people's aspirations and rights and they must and can be realised." BILL GATES, co-founder of Microsoft Corp., co-chair of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation: • "It's a great opportunity for the developed world to really take stock of the differences that exist in average living conditions from what we experience every day and dedicate ourselves to reducing that inequity." MELINDA GATES, co-chair of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation: • "What's the most pressing issue of our time? It really is ending poverty in the world, and that's what these SDGs are focused on."

Vietnam to undergo major state media shakeup by 2020 Hanoi, september 26 (reUters): Vietnam will trim its state-run media and publishing sector, with the loss of about 10,000 jobs and some widely circulated newspapers, as the ruling Communist Party tightens its control over the booming industry, a report said on Saturday. The number of publications in Vietnam has more than doubled to around 1,100 in the past 15 years. "Commercialisation" of the media has been rising, "affecting negatively public opinions", a Defence Ministryrun newspaper said on Saturday. The Information and Communications Ministry detailed a project on Friday to restructure Vietnam's media, under which 4,000 licensed journalists and 6,000 employees could lose their jobs, the Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reported. The government approved the plan in June. It was not clear how many publica-

tions, including print and online versions of newspapers and magazines, would remain. Vietnam would not allow commercialisation or privatisation of the media, thereby helping to improve its quality and ability to inform the public, Information and Communications Minister Nguyen Bac Son was quoted as saying at Friday's meeting. Communist-run Vietnam, like China, keeps tight control over its media, with most of its editors-in-chief party members and their appointments approved by the party. However, the development of the Internet and social media networks have challenged the party's authority in recent years. Provincial departments and each sector of the economy would no longer run newspapers, with the Communist Party's regional chapters to take direct control, the report said.

Pressure to be ‘manly’ may lead to violence Roxanne Nelson Reuters Health Men who perceive themselves to be less masculine according to the traditional gender norms of society, and are feeling stressed about it, may be more prone to violent behavior, according to a U.S. study. These men are more likely to commit violent assaults compared to men who are more comfortable in their own skin, researchers say. But this doesn't mean all men who feel "less manly" will become violent, said Dr. Dennis Reidy, the study's senior author from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. "The key word here is ‘stress’," he told Reuters Health. "It's important to understand that it’s a combination of the two things." In other words, violent behavior may result when a man believes that others perceive him to be less masculine and then feels stressed about that. The researchers call this "masculine discrepancy stress." In general, men tend to be at a higher risk of poor health and injury, in part because they are more likely to engage in risky behaviors. Compared to women, men have higher rates of substance use, binge drinking, reckless and aggressive driving, weapon carrying and violence. One reason for this unhealthy risk taking behavior may be related to "discrepancy stress," ac-

cording to Reidy and his coauthors. That said, Reidy added, many factors "go into driving someone to become violent and engaging in risky behaviors. There is no single thing that will entirely explain the behavior or be the cause for it." For the study, published in Injury Prevention, Reidy’s team recruited 600 men ages 18 to 50 via Amazon’s Mechanical Turk online data collection site. The men were surveyed about their self-perceptions with regard to gender roles. Then the researchers assessed whether men who were experiencing psychological stress believed that others per-

ceived them to be less masculine. For stressed men with this belief, the study team also looked to see if stress manifested in risky or violent behavior. Men who scored high on both gender role discrepancy and its associated stress reported rates of assaults that were 348 percent higher than men who were low on discrepancy stress. "If someone's masculinity is threatened in some way, responses are often attempts to over-demonstrate masculinity in other ways," said Dr. Tristan Bridges, a sociologist at the College at Brockport State University of New York. Bridges, who was not in-

volved in the study, told Reuters Health by email about recent experimental research on this issue. For example, men who have their masculinity 'threatened' in a lab, such as taking a gender identity test and being given feedback, were less likely to identify scenarios involving sexual assault as being sexual assault. Research has also shown "threatened" men are more supportive of war, show more prejudice toward gay men and lesbians, are more likely to say they believe in the natural superiority of males, and are more likely to say they want to buy an SUV, Bridges noted. "I think the practical information that we can glean is that, in spite of big gains in gender equality in education, the workplace, and politics, men are still clinging to problematic understandings of masculinity," Bridges said. "It's a powerful statement of masculine entitlement. This is not saying that men act in these ways all the time - just when they perceive their masculinities as having been threatened." As for solutions, Reidy said research into this phenomenon is just getting underway. "We are just beginning to look at primary prevention strategies that we can implement before people get violent," he said. "And we are looking at this more from the public health standpoint. Rather than identify a single individual, we want to roll it out to the public at large."

Diabetes medication could treat alcohol addiction London, september 26 (ians): A medication used for diabetes and obesity could also be used for the treatment of alcohol dependence, suggests new research. Alcohol dependence causes morbidity as well as mortality and is major health problem in today's society. Swedish researchers identified that interfering with the hormone GLP-1 could be a target for treating alcohol dependence. Researchers have found that a medication that resemble GLP-1, which is used to treat Type-2 diabetes as well as obesity, also could be used to treat alcohol dependence. "We suggest that medications that resemble GLP-1 could be used to treat alcohol dependence in humans," said one of the researchers Elisabet Jerlhag from Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg in Sweden. Usually, dopamine is released in the brain's reward center in response to drinking alcohol, which leads to a sense of euphoria. The GLP-1-like substance prevents the ability of alcohol to increase dopamine in reward areas in the mice, suggesting that they no longer experience a reward from alcohol, the findings showed. "The GLP1-like substance reduced the alcohol consumption by 30-40 percent in rats that drank large quantities of alcohol for several months," Jerlhag noted. The researchers found that the diabetes medication also reduced the motivation to drink alcohol in rats that were bred to drink a lot of alcohol. The medication also prevented relapse drinking in rats, which is major problem for alcohol dependent individuals. The study was published in the journal Addict Biology.

Australia tour of Bangladesh delayed due to security concerns melbourNe, September 26 (ageNcieS): Australia cricket team's departure to Bangladesh for their upcoming bilateral series has been delayed due to security concerns. The Australian cricketers were scheduled to depart for Bangladesh on Monday with the team members, leaving from different ports of Australia, due to assemble in Dhaka. However, Cricket Australia (CA), which received a travel advisory from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), has put the departure of the players on hold and is chalking out a revised security plan for the tour. "We have received advice from DFAT and based on that information we are working with security experts and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on a revised security plan for the tour," CA Chief Executive Officer, James Sutherland, said. "We want the tour to go ahead and are planning for that, but the safety and security of our players and support staff is our number-one priority and won't be compromised." "We will wait to receive updated security information early in the week before confirming the team's travel arrangements. In the meantime, we are working with the ACA and keeping our players and support staff fully informed," he added. The latest security advise about Bangladesh issued by DFAT stated that there was "reliable information" of threat to Australians and that the tourists should "exercise a high degree of caution in Bangladesh due to the uncertain political and security situation." "Australians should be aware that normal travel in many parts of Dhaka is often not possible due to arbitrary acts of violence. Bangladesh has experienced a number of terrorist incidents in the past and security agencies in Bangladesh continue to arrest people connected to terrorist organisations. Further attacks are possible, including against Western interests," DFAT's advice stated. Australia, who last toured Bangladesh in 2011, are scheduled to play a two-Test series starting on October 9. Before the five-day matches, they were due to play a three-day practice match against a BCB XI starting on October 3. However, with the security issue cropping up, it is not clear if the games will go ahead as per schedule.

Remaining injury free throughout ISL important: Sunil Chhetri mumbai, September 26 (iaNS): Indian Super League (ISL) franchise Mumbai City FC's striker Sunil Chhetri believes staying fit and injury-free throughout the tournament will be the primary aspect of any footballer participating in it. The second season of ISL starts on October 3. The Indian national team captain, Chhetri was bought by Mumbai City FC in the Indian players auction and the 31-year-old feels the squad, filled with top international players, will help not only help the Indians but also the foreign players. "I am happy to be part of ISL for the first time. Popular and big names are in the squad and I am looking forward to play as a combined unit. We had a good training in Dubai. The main thing we have to keep in mind is to remain injury free and be fit for the entire ISL," Chhetri told reporters here on Saturday. "Having top foreign players in the squad will surely help the Indians to learn a lot. The young foreign players will also get to learn from the senior players," he said. The club finished second from last in the inaugural season and Chhetri believes the strong team powered by some good performance this season will bring joy in the faces of the fans. "The Indian players will get ample opportunity to rub shoulders with top players. I am happy that we have a strong squad and most important thing to achieve success we have to be happy and being happy and confident takes one closer to victory. We will put up a performance to bring joy in faces of the fans," he said. Speaking about the aspect of transferring advice to the young players, he said, "The only way we can transfer advice to the young players is about us doing the right thing and eventually the young players will learn from it." Former French international Nicolas Anelka after playing as a player in the first season has taken an added responsibility of being the manager of the club. Speaking on being the club’s marquee-player-cum manager, the striker said he is up for the new challenge. “This is the first time I will be playing and also managing the club. I will try to give my best in the pitch and help Mumbai win the crown. I hope we will score a lot of goals and most important is to defend well and not conceded goals,” he said. Speaking about the pre-season training in Dubai, the former French footballer said, “The pre-season was hard work and it was hot out there. We trained well and won couple of matches there and lost one. We as a squad are waiting to get on the field and give our best.” A promising forward in the side, Andre Moritz, who has scored the only hat-trick in the league said there will not be any pressure coming into the league. “There is no pressure on me; I want to keep my feet on the ground. Want to score something more than a hat-trick. I think Indian players are talented and hardworking guys. I hope in five to ten years India will be a big name in world football,” he said.

Pitch the Naga tent higher and deeper

A

fter well over half a century of struggle and turmoil in our land, we Naga people, led by experienced leaders and thinkers, have reached a point where a solution for peace and normalcy is within our reach and very much attainable if we give serious and wise thought to pitch our Naga tent higher and deeper; NOT WIDER NOR NARROWER! If size and number only matter, we stand nowhere; but if we consider our history and right matter, we are second to none! We have every right and resource to pitch our tent higher and deeper. This is a plain, simple and a clarion call to all Nagas in any state or country (NPGs, NGOs, Hohos and the general public). The need of the hour for all leaders worth their name is proper understanding of polities and politics. The need for all the Naga people in general is reflective citizenry and citizenship. More urgent now for the youth is PROPER POLITICAL EDUCATION by clear-minded and clear-eyed resource persons. Unless

we learn and understand our origin and destiny, as well as the current world trends, some so-called leaders may be inadvertently and unwittingly pitching our tent smaller, faster, rougher and more incomplete and partial. Whatever the impending solution, settlement or agreement, keep a door open and impart good political education to our upcoming generations and future leaders with full trust and confidence on them along with full faith in God who reigns and is in perfect and full control. PERIOD. Divine perspective is more important than idols of any sort. Who can deny that? Let us all play our parts and make the best efforts together in the struggle of our common journey and leave the rest to God, blaming none and idolizing or lionizing none. We are Nagas and we are Christians. Let the whole world know it. It’s our common call. Let’s respond well this time for next time may take longer or may never come. Dr. Dietho-o, ‘South Corner’ A.G. Road, Kohima

The British government and the Nagas

T

Thepfulhouvi solo

he Angami and the Chokri armed fight against the East India Company Force during 1832 to 1879 was neither for the expansion of their Territory nor for a Freedom movement for a Naga Nation. It was not a Liberation Struggle or a National Freedom Movement; it was just a fight for the Honor of the Village and of the glory of Head hunting. The explanation of the origin of the occasional rather than Traditional or Customary practice of Head hunting among the Nagas, will require long and detailed discourses, this may inordinately delay the discussion of the topic at hand; hence it may be kept for some other times. The British administered the Naga; but they did not rule over them. No British Law, no British System was imposed upon Naga Hills except: i. a ban on Head Hunting. ii. a ban on selling of land outside the Community. iii. an unhindered Right of Way on the Empire's Highways and the Mule Tracts for the Sarkar's Dak Runners with Bell Ringing or with an ancient Hurricane Lamp at night. iv. a Red Waist Coat –the Angami called 'Scooteh'- for its Dobashi or Interpreter to wear on duty. v. a Red authoritative Roman Toga to drape the Village Elder called Gaun Burah. Except for these Principles, on all other things, the Naga governed himself as in the ancient times. When the British East India Company forces first appeared in the Naga Country of Semaguting (Chümukedima) Village, they desired for a Peace Treaty with the Naga and sought an audience with the King. The Villagers fixed a Spear on the ground in the front and pointed it to be their King. Since then the Colonial Power never sought to enter into any Treaty engagement with any Naga. Mahatma Gandhi supported the Allied Forces in WWII with a pre-war political understanding with British, that when the War is over, the British would leave India. Mahatma Gandhi was against the continuance of the British Rule in India and his support for them in the war is not for nothing. The Naga support for the British in the WWII, on the other hand, was in honor of the Loyalty for a just Administration. Some INA (Indian National Army) soldiers of Subash Chandra Bose, accompanying the Japanese force tried to win over the Naga by saying the Japanese and the Naga are both Mongolian race and together they would drive out the White Man from the Country and have their own Sarkar. The Naga however had no such agenda for their support of the British Forces in the WWII. They supported the Government for its just Administration. The Naga favored the white man's Administration in the Naga Hills; they would have welcomed a British Protectorate for the Naga Country for some time even after the Indian Independence. The RSS Theoreticians would have us and the wide World believe their assumed agenda that the Naga also joined the Indian Independent Movement of Mahatma Gandhi against the British. This, the RSS Cohorts are doing because the Naga had all along been saying they did not participate in the history of India and the Naga had declared in a memorandum to the Simon Commission in 1929, prior to the Colonial Power leaving India, that in the event of the British leaving the Naga Country, the Naga should be left as they were before. It is in the understanding the Naga would not join Burma or China that Sir Akbar Hydari Governor of the Province of Assam, on behalf of the Government of India, on June 26 to July 1, 1946 that the NNC entered into a 9-POINT AGREEMENT and after 10 years the Naga would decide their own future. Immediately NNC appointed Mr. Kevichüsa, Mr. Khelhose, and Mr. Mhondamo Ministers, but the Government forced the NNC to stop functioning and Phizo was jailed. There is no mention of Naga participation at any time anywhere in the Ancient History of India the Students read in the Colleges or Universities of India. The IM used this one cardinal point also in the recent PEACE ACCORD with the Government of India who has accepted the History of the Naga. The Naga always held their non-partition in the History of India as their fundamental Stand for a separate Naga life from India. The Naga was never against the British Rule in India and had never heard of Mahatma Gandhi's "Quit India Movement". But RSS Thinkers like Jagdamba Mall (Relevance of Rani Gaidinliu in Nagaland and the Country: 'Page' of 09/16/2015 and other Local Papers) would have the Naga and the world believe, that the recently manufactured wind of Mahatma's Freedom Movement blew in the Naga Hills through the draughty bamboo Walls of the Rani's Thatch House. But such see-through crafting reads like Grimm's Fairy Tale rather than serious the thinking of the present day generation of the Naga. Some other RSS Proponents have the Rani even accompany Gandhi in his Train Journey in 1921 from Dimapur to Golaghat and had even presented a solid Teak wood crafted Table of unbelievable 60cm diameter. This must have been when the supposed Rani was 6 years old if she was born in 1915! Such concocted stories read like amusing magic to the Naga readers who know the real life of Gaidinliu. Dimapur as a Train Station, was officially not known to the Indian Railways then, it was 'Manipur Road' and only after the creation of the State of Nagaland was the Station officially became known as Dimapur. In their attempt to paint the Naga and the whole of the North East participated in the Indian Freedom Movement to pretend India was a solid homogenous Bharat, the RSS Theoreticians may go to any length and concoct any fairly tales on the Rani; at this rate, my wife tells me, 'they' would even have the Rani fly up to Heaven! The equation becomes quite different with the native Indian to whom the Society is perpetually classed in Castes of high and low into one of which a person is born fatefully and which he or she can never change by choice. To them, the Naga was born, all into one unchangeable unenviable Class. The rejection of this fatefully unchangeable unnatural Or-

der seeded the germination of the Naga Movement for a separate life before the British departure and after Independence of India. The Naga envisioned a separate life in as early as 1929 ahead of Mahatma Gandhi's movement for a separate Constitution for Indian. What the 20 simple Dobashis, Chawkidars, Peon and a few clerical Staff of the Naga Hills Deputy Commissioner laid down in those simple English Sentences those days embraces the whole essence of the Naga Sentiment more poignantly than a bunch of intellectuals today could have expressed in sophisticated Engraji today. Thus, very early on, before the Idea of a separate Pakistan was formed in the Muslim League of India, the Naga Hills saw the fundamental irreconcilable difference between the Indian Scheme of life and that of the Naga. And on becoming aware of the British Rule in India coming to an end being contemplated, the Naga decided for a separate life in the future from India. The Naga political Movement was not a Movement against the British Rule, it a Movement not against in India. It is a small Voice unafraid to declare its Rights to giant like India. After the Sepoy Mutiny seeded the first Indian War of Independence in 1857, a rumor began to spread far and wide in India that: "all who eat from the Plate would be driven out of the land and ALL who eat from the wooden Plate would rule over the Land". This became a loose talk in many circles for a refreshing outlook of the people. Manipur an ancient Kingdom came under the King of Ava, but the Raja took the help of the East India Company at Calcutta and succeeded in forces in the 17th Century and the Raja took refuge At around late 1920s, one Meitei, a subject of the Maharajah of Manipur, was done to death by a frenzied crowd of Rongmei at Poilon (Kambiron) –Jadonang's Village- under the leadership of Jadonang who was consequently found responsible for the death of the subject and hanged by Raja's Government of Manipur. On the death of Jadonang, a mystic Rongmei girl began to bewitch the illiterate and credulous Villagers. She was possessed with Demons and once fell seriously ill. She then claimed she can cure herself with the power of her Demons and she did got cured. However her Villagers slowly began to feel uncomfortable with her Witchcraft and were contemplating to exile her from the Village. Surprisingly enough, at that time, one woman in nearby Hangram Village got seriously sick and did not get cured. Some said a Shaman in Lungkao is said to have cures for similar ailments. A man brought her to Gaidinliu and incidentally got her cured. Gaidinliu then asked the man whether she could go and stay in Hangram. The Man of Hangram recommended Gaidinliu to the leaders of his Village and they agreed to let her come and live in Hangram. Gaidinliu use to say people would lack nothing if they shared provisions with her and well-to-do Villagers shared food with her. She would sometime surprisingly procure rice and tell the people they need not work, the Demons will provide their necessities. They enjoyed together for some time off the wealth of the well-to-do. She said Demons come to confer with her and would remain suspended on the branches of the Tree with their hairs but not sit on the ground like human beings. For days she would remain inside and sked people from other Village to become her followers. Those some who would not, she is said to have asked her followers to take him inside to pray to the demons and then sacrifice him. Then she would share a bit of the blood with all her followers! When the relatives came enquiring about their man, Gaidinliu would tell them the Demons have taken him. Villagers used to be done to death and ultimately they went against her and reported to the Government. She ran away to Naga Hills. She was caught in Kenoma Village, now Poilwa, with the help of Dr. Haralu one of the first Doctors of Naga Hills of the same Village. She was jailed but on given general Pardon to Timers in the Jail at the time India got Independence in 1947, she was also released. Sir, CR Pausey, ICS the last colonial Deputy Commissioner of Naga Hills, apprehending her creating trouble if allowed to stay in her community asked the Dobashi from Tuensang, then NEFA, to take her to a remote village and leave her there. They took her to Yimrep, a remote Chang Village and left her there. On the Eve of Indian Independence in 1944 to 1945, the British began to release Timers from the Jail and Gaidinliu was released. One of the two NNC Joint Secretaries, later President, Mr. T. Aliba Imti had long discourse with her while she was interned at Yimrep. Mr. Aliba Imti wrote: "It seems that when Pandit Nehru was at Silchar during 1936, someone mentioned to him mentioned to him that ther was a Naga Lady who was also fighting against against the imperial powers for the Independence and that as she was in jail at the moment, a word from him would help. So in his speech, he mentioned about a brave Naga girl who had also joined the fight for independence from the imperial power, Rani Gaiduiliu. From that time onwards, she was know as the Rani Gaiduilu. I wa very keen to see this lady who was right from 1933 onwards was in various jails all over, in Tezpur, in Silchar, in Shillong and so one. I met Rani Gaidiulu, ………. It was a bit difficult to converse with her as she would use all kinds of languages; a wor or twoo in Bengali, another in Khasi and a bit in Chang and so on. Anyway after two sittings ofmore than six hours, I could understand in briefthat she was all for the independence of India from the British". Gaidinliu was reportedly a ghastly tantric Witch with mysterious demonic spirit. She was no Freedom Fighter. The people who say Gaidinliu was a great Freedom Fighter of the Northeast are great Preachers of Falsehood. There is a person still alive today who said he told Gaidinliu (through Interpreter): "I am also a leader working for the good of our People; you should tell me how you are thinking about the Welfare of out people".

Gaidinliu would say nothing and only mumble". So once the Man harshly told her: "Your followers killed my people, yet for the greater good of our people I am looking after you like this; you should share what your vision is for the welfare of our people". "At this, Gaidinliu shed some semblance of tears, but said nothing", said the Man to this Writer. The Man also told this Writer: "I asked her about Integration but she only kept a blank face. Many times I tried to talk to her but she only mumbles some sounds and could not discourse". It is quite simple; Gaidinliu was inarticulate, ignorant, 'demon Possessed Mediun', a tantric blood-letting Witch at best a Shaman. She would have come and gone completely unknown village maverick had not the Naga Political Movement under Phizo of the Naga National Council raked up her name in the memory of Jowaharlal Nehru who, then was the hopeful future Prime Minister of India and referred her as 'Naga Rani' to get the sympathy of the politically turbulent Naga then. Any person who says "her relevance will be discovered and made it ascend on ethno-political horizon of people of the region and India" may be deluging himself or herself, mistaking the fall of a Chestnut on one's head to be the Sky falling down, greatly misleading a great section of people, Naga or not. Gaidinliu was just a wicket demon-possessed village witch at best a Shaman, blood-letting unassuming Frankenstein monster. (I have used very harsh words consciously to hit the Nail very hard, and people may please bear me) The Indian leaders donot know about the Personal life of Gaidinliu, what they learned is only from hearsay from those who extol her without knowing her personally. It was the name 'Naga' of the NNC in the hectic Indian Independence days of 1946-1947 that popularized Gaidinliu. Gaidinliu did not glorify the NNC. And today also, the poignant 3rd August Indo-Muivah Peace Accord that popularized the Nagaland Government's ill advised Project on Gaindinliu Memorial Library at Kohima. It is doubtful Gaidinliu heard the name Gandhi, or his Non-violent political Movement. She did not know the 'fire seed' (Mi-Si) –burning bullets- could penetrate Banana Stem and advised her followers the Sarkars fire-seeds cannot harm them if they make palisade of Banana Plants the Wall of their hiding enclosure! Sir, CR Pawsey is quoted: "She (gaidinliu) was arrested for causing social disturbances, not for rebelling against the British Government". Some might wonder why the Government of Nagaland and the Government of India is honoring Gaidinliu so important and highly? It is very simple: all Funds connected with 'Rani Gaidinliu' get direct attention in the Highest echelons of the Authority in Delhi and unlike other Projects the Fund comes down to Kohima by Rajdhani Express in Lakhs and Karores. Nagaland today is all for Money. It fits the personal Interest of fund-strapped waiting Politicians of Nagaland and their obedient Bureaucrats! The other reason is: It fits compactly into the thinly camouflaged Agenda of the BJP Government to safronize the most obedient, most enthusiastic Rongmei followers of the Haraka Cult, very akin to Hinduism which accepts all impossible kinds of gods to its fold. Incidentally and very conveniently, into this combination, comes the very handy and reneged-Baptist Witch Rani of the Rongmei from Lungkao, Manipur! The BJP-RSS Leaders get a chance to enter the Naga Society through the Haraka Cult. The third Reason is: Today the many educated and highly qualified Rongmei feel happy that the Rani enjoys the support of powerful Authorities in the Hindu Society. It is not for nothing, they expertly and tactically claim Rani Gaidinliu is a Freedom Fighter, knowing very well she is a Cultist devoid of any political Ideology. It is also not for nothing that the RSS swallow lock, stock and barrel of whatever the Haraka Cult says of Gaidinliu as long as the RSS get the opportunity to enter the Naga community. The Rongmei Community gets the facilities and privileges for Education, Employment and Opportunities of Life because of belonging to community of the Rani. Who will be bothered with others when an obscure primitive Cult can usher so much Opportunities of life to arrive? Mahatma Gandhi claimed he is a Dalit by Choice but the Mahatma was never a Dalit like Untouchable Ambedkar, the Author of Indian Constitution. Nobody can enter a Hindu Caste Class simply by a personal Choice; Membership in the Hindu Caste is not by choice; not even by Association; it is by birth only. Nobody can become a Brahmin accept by birth. Seriously religious Meitei Hindu are highly regarded in hindu religious Cities like Hardwar, Rishikesh, Benares etc but outside they are treated or mistreated the same as the ordinary people of the Northeast. The Rongmei Haraka Members may find themselves in highly connected Circles today but in a few generations or a century, their children and grand children may find themselves what the Dalits in India are experiencing for the last 5000 years. Ambedkar, a Britain educated Authority on Law, the Author of Indian Constitution and a Minister in British India Province of Bombay Presidency that constituted present day Maharastra and Gujarat, was not accepted in the Hindu echelons and realized an Untouchable Dalit's only way to Salvation is to come out of the Circle of Hindu Scheme of life. In one mass meeting lastly, Ambedkar took 4 Laks of his Dalits and embraced Buddhism! When Gaidinliu could not comprehend what Integration even is about, it is unimaginable she "was a pioneer tribal leader, had subscribed to immutable democratic ideals –Freedom, justice and political equality, raised the freedom struggle in Manipur and Naga Society in the Northeast India, her freedom struggle would remain in golden inscription in history" The Writer is at a loss to comprehend as to what spirit of falsehood has possessed the Naga with such self-glory!??? Oh, God deliver the Naga from Evil, (We will try to protect ourselves from the British Government!)

Jon Snow MAY be very much alive!

K

it Harington hinted that he would be returning to Game Of Thrones in some capacity last week, despite the fact his character was killed off in the season five finale. And on Friday the 28-year-old actor, who plays Jon Snow in the hit HBO series, was spotted on set in Belfast looking very much alive. Having ditched his blacks, the Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, was standing tall in Stark clothes with his sword on his hip as they filmed on the remote Northern Ireland hilltop. Kit, who has been spotted in Belfast on several occasions over the past few

weeks, was surrounded by several members of the crew as they took a break between scenes. He wore his long locks in his signature man bun and appeared to be deep in conversation as they gathered around several expensivelooking pieces of camera equipment. Under the umbrella nearby stood a woman who may or may not have been Carice van Houten, who plays The Red Witch Lady Melisandre. Fans have theorised that Melisandre will be the one to bring Jon Snow back to life following his brutal stabbing, although he could just be on set filming flashback scenes.

The telling images come after Jon hinted that he would be returning to the popular fantasy show - despite his character's many stab wounds in some capacity. During an interview with Belgian magazine Humo, he said: 'Let's just say that Game Of Thrones will remain a part of my life for a while. 'I'll probably be in my thirties when it's over,' he added. Kit also admitted that he was 'still under contract' with the HBO series. The question of how Jon Snow could still be alive has been a major one since the June 14 episode, Mother's Milk, in which members of the Night's Watch betrayed Jon and stabbed him.

After numerous blows and utterances of 'for the watch,' the fifth season of Game Of Thrones ended with Jon lying - apparently dead - in the blood-stained snow. Despite repeated questioning, no one has been willing to admit that Jon Snow could be anything other than dead. HBO programming chief Michael Lombardo was adamant that this was the case when talking to reporters in July. 'Dead is dead is dead. He be dead. Yes,' said Lombardo when asked about Kit's character. 'Everything I've seen, heard and read, Snow is dead.' The new series returns in the spring.

Polar Lights released their new video on September 6 titled 'Into the Light,' produced by Tinted Light Studio. The video is now available on Youtube. 'Into the Light' features in the band's upcoming EP, produced at Jam Studio 11, which is scheduled to be released next month.

he 'X Factor' boss has taken a test to determine his date of death. The music mogul has been told his life expectancy by scientists and doctors who ran tests on his blood, and if he avoids unfortunate accidents, he'll live a long life well into his nineties. He said: ''I had the DNA test done in LA which predicts when you're going to die. They take your blood and DNA, then give you back a sheet of paper which says 'We think you're going to be alive

until xxxx'. ''Obviously it doesn't take account of the fact you might get hit by a bus tomorrow, but I got told I'd die aged 95 - which is about as good as you can expect.'' The talent show boss - whose mum Julie died aged 89 and dad Eric aged 81 - recommends ''getting checked'' over by doctors to keep the mind at ease. He told the Daily Mirror: ''I'm a great believer in getting checked out because if you know you're OK, you actually feel

better; your mind plays a big part of it. ''I get everything checked out twice a year and so far, considering everything I've done, I've been lucky and had no scares. ''My heart, my lungs, my blood - they've all been checked. I remember one of the doctors almost being disappointed when he showed me the results because he couldn't wait to tell me what smoking was doing to me. But there was nothing there.''

ith a fan base of millions, a consistently jam-packed tour schedule, and an almost permanent place in the headlines, it's easy to see how Pope Francis got his "rock star" nickname. Just in time for the holiday shopping season, Pope Francis will be releasing his first ever, Vatican-approved rock album Wake Up! in November. Rolling Stone was first to report on the story Friday morning, writing that the Argentine-born pontiff's progressive rock LP will feature him "delivering sacred hymns and excerpts of his most moving speeches in multiple languages paired with uplifting musical accompaniment ranging from pop-rock to Gregorian chant." The 11-track album will purportedly touch on everything from environmental issues to the importance of helping those in need, with Pope Francis speaking to listeners in Italian, English, Spanish and Portuguese. The 11-track album Wake Up! will be released in November.

LONDON, September 26 (reuterS): Leaders Manchester City suffered their second successive Premier League defeat when Tottenham Hotspur produced a stunning fightback to win 4-1 at White Hart Lane on Saturday. Goals from Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld, Harry Kane and Erik Lamela left City reeling after the visitors had dominated early on and taken a 25th-minute lead through record signing Kevin de Bruyne. Coming a week after a 2-1 home defeat by West Ham United that halted City's 100 percent start to the season, their second-half collapse in sunny north London means they could lose top spot after Saturday's later matches. ottenham Hotspur produced their best football of the season -- and benefited from two offside goals -- as they came from behind to beat Manchester City 4-1 in the Premier League at White Hart Lane on Saturday. City, who have now lost two in a row after being beaten 2-1 by West Ham United last week, had no answer to a rampant Spurs in the second half. Both City's coach Manuel Pellegrini and Spurs' Mauricio Pochettino agreed that Spurs first and third goals involved clear offsides, but Pellegrini accepted his team were as culpable as the officials. "Part of the reason for goals is the referee's mistake, but another part is the will go top if they beat Sunderland. There seemed no hint of what was to come when City broke quickly in the 25th minute through

mistake of our defence. We played well in the first half but not in the second half," he told a news conference afterwards. "My mentality is not to try to have excuses. The two offside goals were very important because the first one was their equaliser and the next one made it 3-1, but its part of the game and when you lose 4-1 its not just about the referee's mistake." Pochettino, delighted with his team's fightback after losing to arch-rivals Arsenal in the League Cup on Wednesday, added: "When I was at Southampton, we lost 4-1 to City and two of their goals was offside, but this is football. Rosberg on pole in Japan after Kvyat crashes 16TH NSF MARTYRS’ MEMORIAL TROPHY 2015

C M Y K

SuzuKa, September 26 (reuterS): Nico Rosberg put Formula One world champions Mercedes on pole position for the Japanese Grand Prix on Saturday after Red Bull's Daniil Kvyat crashed heavily and brought qualifying to an early close. The German secured his first pole since Spain in May when the red flags came out with 36 seconds remaining, leaving team mate and championship leader Lewis Hamilton no chance of claiming a 12th pole in 14 races. Hamilton, who has a 41-point lead over Rosberg with six races left, missed out by 0.076 seconds but made sure of an all-Mercedes front row to the relief of a team that was eclipsed in Singapore last weekend. "A good comeback for the team after such a difficult weekend in Singapore. We really turned things around... I pretty much nailed my laps today. I'm really pleased with the way it went," said Rosberg. "At times today I had the perfect car." The front row was a re-

peat of last year's at Suzuka, a wet race overshadowed by French driver Jules Bianchi's tragic accident in the closing stages and that Hamilton won on his way to a second world championship. Finland's Valtteri Bottas qualified third for Williams on a dry track after Friday's rain with Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel, victorious in Singapore and a four times winner in Japan, lining up in fourth place. "The first lap I lost a bit of time into Turn 11 and I think in the last corner," said Hamilton. "Nico is driving well this weekend but I definitely felt pretty

good on that last lap, but the main thing is that Kvyat is OK." The Russian was unhurt in his dramatic crash, losing control of the rear of his car after going wide onto the grass as he approached the hairpin. Snapping sideways, the car was pitched into a tyre wall and flipped over before coming to rest with the wheels torn off the left side. Kvyat assured the team he was OK and then slowly extricated himself unaided. "It was a big impact, but the main thing is he is fine. A little bit winded," said Red Bull team principal Christian Horner.

Brazilian Felipe Massa qualified fifth for Williams, with Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen sixth and Australian Daniel Ricciardo seventh for Red Bull. McLaren's Jenson Button failed to make it through the first phase of qualifying, on a dismal afternoon at engine partner Honda's home circuit, and starts 16th with Spanish team mate Fernando Alonso 14th. Button might have squeezed through but the yellow warning flags denied him a final quick lap after Dutch teenager Max Verstappen's Toro Rosso was left stranded on track at the hairpin exit.

FIFA has been "decimated" by scandals, says Prince Ali

zurICh, September 26 (reuterS): FIFA presidential candidate Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein of Jordan said that soccer's governing body has been "decimated" by the recent wave of scandals and that he has heard from "many member associations" in the last 24 hours. The German football federation (DFB) reacted with "great dismay" after the latest scandal to hit FIFA on Friday when the Swiss attorney general's office (OAG) opened criminal proceedings against president Sepp Blatter on suspicion of criminal mismanagement. The OAG said Blatter, who has been FIFA president since 1998, was suspected of a "disloyal payment" of 2 million Swiss francs ($2.04 million) made to UEFA president Michel Platini in 2011. Platini, the favourite to win the election to replace Blatter on Feb. 26, was asked to give information as a witness, the OAG said. UEFA said the payment related to work Platini had carried out under a con-

tract with FIFA. "I have heard from many member associations over the last 24 hours, and what I have heard gives me confidence that, working together, we can emerge from this stronger," said Prince Ali in a statement. "The need for new leadership that can restore the credibility of FIFA has never been more apparent. "We cannot change the past, but we can have a future where FIFA member associations are able to fo-

cus on football rather than worrying about the next scandal or criminal investigation involving FIFA leadership. "We have to accept that changing FIFA is not a matter of choice; it has already changed, shaken to its very core by the scandals that have decimated our governing body and cast a cloud over the entire organisation." Prince Ali, who avoided mentioning Platini or Blatter in the statement, lost to Blatter in May's presiden-

tial election, but the Swiss announced four days later that he would lay down his mandate as crisis engulfed FIFA. "We have a duty to use our expertise, our experience, and our knowledge to lift that cloud by taking action to demonstrate that FIFA is worthy of the sport it oversees," added Prince Ali. ($1 = 0.9780 Swiss francs) The DFB said in a statement that it was "stunned at the extent and seriousness of the accusations." "German football in its entirety, from grassroots to the professionals, demands a quick and consistent clarification of all allegations and suspicions through the proper authorities as well as full cooperation of FIFA." DFB president Wolfgang Niersbach sits on the executive committee which met on Friday, shortly before Swiss prosecutors searched Blatter's office and seized data. Niersbach said that he and other committee members had not been informed of the "new turbulence" during the meeting.
