CRUISING ON THE

OPEN FIELD WHO STARTED TO RIDE

A GREENHORN EYE

ALEX ALO

Owning a motorbike since my childhood days has been my interest for years. I remember back then my cousin paid us a visit every noon time with his two-wheeled commute issued by his employer for his daily job. That time I felt riding a bike is cool and I want to own one. I always asked him to give me a ride before going to his job for me to enjoy the wind on my face. I am a back rider for a time and expected to be one every weekdays. My interest made me look for a motorcycle plying on streets but none gave me an appeal since dual sport and standard “pantra” (pan-tricycle) was mostly available on the streets. Most bikes I watched on a TV series, “Chips”, gave me the nod and most of them had side boxes that complements the style. Hey, I will not tell how old I am but it was a good thing now that almost all types of motorcycles are coming in our country and becoming a culture. Lifestyle, culture, attitude, style, or simply the joy on the open road, nothing beats a long highway riding, and conquering every streets of the community. The sight, food, people and camaraderie of this culture are what cruiser riders are passionate about. Mostly for a non-rider, cruiser bikes are bulky, heavy, and hardcore. Bikes that go from far places carrying everything needed for a quick stop at bars and just to set off on the road again for the ride. That is what movies and TV programs instill to us. Adventurist, tourist, and the like who cruise between towns loves relatively large bikes in between their legs with their hard case boxes or saddle bags attached for securing things during travel. It might be hard to manage and awkward to handle and to look at, but on highways and straight long roads, it makes a

The last time I rode a Harley-Davidson, it belonged to my boss, I blasted that cruiser for all it’s worth, it was about a decade ago, a 1400cc Harley-Davidson Dyna. Although it seemed like a lifetime ago, I could not forget the feeling. The wind on my face, the thrill of the road, and the roar of the screaming eagle exhaust pipes. A week ago, I attended the Harley-Davidson Owners Group’s meet-up at Harley-Davidson of manila. All of a sudden I am emerged again neck deep with their brand. The evening transpired into a great event, for everybody and most especially for me. I was awed by the fact that clubs now a days focus on

good balance during speeds. Bulky but with a purpose. Street traffic may not be attractive for big cruiser bikes. Heavy and hard to turn between 4-wheels. I happened to encounter one and I can say he knows how to ride his bike. He weaved through slow traffic and paddled his feet on the ground. He put down his right foot for right turns and left foot for his left turn. I observed his riding posture was adjusted correctly during turns. Strange but works for him. He also put his head up on slow movements and elbows out, and make it seem his in balance with less wobble. I didn’t think of that during my first traffic cruising ride!? Long rides may not be enjoyable to all riders but the camaraderie and fun spending with riders is what made motorcycling a culture. We witnessed one of the meet ups of the famous cruisier bike group here in the Philippines who owns the legendary and famous brand, HARLEY-DAVIDSON, and they made us feel what was it all about being with the group. The HOG or known as HARLEY OWNERS GROUP is very passionate about their group activities, that is for the common good towards the community without sacrificing their passion for long rides. They start the meeting with their shop talk, a small FYI and Training about their bikes and how to maintain and ride them. Then dinner comes after and a program driven to help and educate follows. We broadcasted our Motorsiklo News Talkshow for the HARLEY OWNERS GROUP SPECIAL EPISODE and it was an awesome experience. This issue we have for our magazine is all about CRUISER BIKES. Expect fullblast ride stories, DIY’s, and more about the industry. Happy reading Siklowistas!

things like public service, local tourism, and mainly representing the positive image of a rider. Before I had the notion that a biker is a rebel. Little did I know that the actual essence of it all is an elusive trait that only the men of value possess. This H.O.G. has the privilege of serving each other and sharing good things to the community. Joining them and basking in their generosity and camaraderie, it began to dawn on me that it truly is a lifestyle. The last time I rode a Harley-Davidson, it belonged to my boss. The next time I ride a Harley Davidson, it will belong to me.

EDITOR’S NOTE

It always is cool to see the world on a motorcycle. The wind and nature on your face as you slice through the road, makes you feel the true meaning of peace. The freedom we get in every ride and the camaraderie from the brotherhood of those who chose to live life on two wheels. We all have our own reasons in riding a motorcycle, whether it be for the lifestyle or just for the commute. It will always be something we bikers understand. It is really a great and proud feeling to belong in the riding community. There are different kinds of bikers, some loves speed and others loves to cruise. The cruising part is what I am so interested in, some say cruiser bikes are for the older riders but for me... I think it’s for everyone young and old. I met twenty something young guys riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles and they look great on them. Riding cruisers is a lifestyle, it is really what bikers are supposed to be. The manly presence, cool looks, hardcore life, and of course the Suave character they project. Riding in style makes more sense to me than riding in speeds that makes everything a blur as you’re zoned in on that speed tunnel. Giving awesome smiles to those who see you on the road as you pass by is so morally uplifting. Cruisers sure are the epitome of motorcycle life and there is a different freedom felt everytime you’re on one, what more if you ride the most sought after motorcycle brand “Harley-Davidson”. Motorcycles are one heck of a machine created to merge with our souls. We all know that whenever we are on our bikes, we make the world a better place for our happiness radiates from within. So always ride safe Siklowistas and please try to cruise on the roads and lessen those speeds for there will always be the right time for it.

Andreas Gunawan wins the First Suzuki Asian Challenge Wet Race T

he SUZUKI ASIAN CHALLENGE (SAC) is SUZUKI’s rider development program produced and operated by Yukio Kagayama for Asian riders. The series Round 3 was held at Suzuka Circuit, Japan, meaning that it would be a home race for both SUZUKI and Kagayama. Suzuka, currently in the rainy season, was forcasted with rain throughout the race week, but the SAC riders were able to ride this world famous course in dry condition on day 1. Seventeen SUZUKI FU150’s lined up at Suzuka on this day. However, rain did hit Suzuka on day 2. Qualifying session became the first ever wet session for the SAC riders, and for this and the fact that Suzuka is one of the difficult tracks in the world, made it difficult for the riders, in addition to the fact that this was the first time for most riders to run at Suzuka. In this condition, #24 Patis Chooprathet of Thailand, who won races in Malaysia and Indonesia, took pole position. Local favorite, #83 Takeru Murase qualified 2nd. And Andreas Gunawawan of Indonesia slipped into the last grid on the front row.

The track conditoned worsened by Race 1, which took place on the same day. Andreas made a good start and took the whole shot, as Patis followed. Patis collided with another rider, and retired, which made it easier for Andreas to run away. The wet track took away several more riders, and at finish, Takeru Murase came in second followed by #46 April King H. Mascardo of the Philippines making the first podium for the team.

M Andreas Gunawan | #43 “I am happy that I was able to finish on the podium, as I did in Malaysia and Indonesia. The track condition was very different in qualifying and the race, so it made it very difficult. And the temperature was low, so it was difficult for me to concentrate. I tried my best not to crash and break the bike, and I was able to win the race. I will concentrate again tomorrow and try to win it again.” Yukio Kagayama | General Manager “I would like to thank all people involved and our sponsors that we were able to hold the SUZUKI ASIAN CHALLENGE in SUZUKI’s

and my home country. I believe that the first wet session and the challenging track layout made it difficult for the young riders. Two rounds have already passed, but in this difficult condition, I was able to witness how the riders have already showed progress. I believe that this difficult condition, was a good experience for all of them. I wish that Race 2 tomorrow would be a safe one like today.”

Team Suzuki Pilipinas’ Podium Finish at Suzuka

T

eam Suzuki Pilipinas made the 3rd round of the Suzuki Asian Challenge (SAC) of the Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) monumental for the country as they concluded it with their first podium win. Held at the Suzuka International Circuit on July 4-5, the third round of the ARRC also served as a home race for Suzuki. SAC is the brand’s rider development program produced and operated by Yukio Kagayama for Asian riders. The Suzuka International Circuit is considered as one of the most difficult tracks in the world; add a rainy weather and it becomes more

challenging to race on. That was exactly what happened on the leg 3 of the ARRC when the rain poured during the 2-day race. SAC then faced its first ever wet qualifying session which made it tricky for most of the riders since a lot of them were first timers in Suzuka including Team Suzuki Pilipinas. With improved times, Team Suzuki Pilipinas secured the 9th (Enzo Rellosa), 11th (April King Mascardo) and 15th (Mario Borbon) grid positions. In spite of the tough track conditions on Race 1, all of them advanced with Mascardo being able to catch the lead pack to

from a crashing rider nearby and got swayed causing him not to finish the race. This is the first podium finish of Team Suzuki Pilipinas in the series and the whole team got more inspired to push harder. “My podium finish was a surprise for me. I was just focused on the race and just giving it my all and then I was already there on the third spot. I’m so overwhelmed!” April King Mascardo shared.

secure the third spot with a time of 16’30.638. Borbon landed on the 5th place clocking 16’43.589 followed by Rellosa on 6th with a time of 16’43.808. Indonesia’s Andreas Gunawan came in at 1st (16’26.671) with Japan’s Takeru Murase at 2nd (16’29.477). Other riders collided with each other causing 5 of the 17 contenders to crash. On Race 2, with the same weather condition, the team was able to improve their times with Mascardo finishing the race at 15’36.695, just few milliseconds behind Borbon who clocked 15’34.398. Rellosa however was not able to veer away

“This success is very meaningful to the team. Suzuka is one of the most difficult tracks in the world and our boys did well. Our win only showed that kaya pala natin, pwede pala tayong makipagsabayan sa malalakas na teams ng ibang bansa (we can do it, that we can race alongside stronger teams from other countries). The team is more enthused to do better and we are excited on the next leg”, Suzuki Philippines Racing Specialist Noel Villapando said during the interview. Team Suzuki Pilipinas’ Manager Monch Bontogon added, “Suzuki Philippines is very proud of our team’s success at the Suzuki Asian Challenge. These boys started on short street-tracks and are not used racing on long tracks but now we can see how far they’ve come. Our main objective is to train and expose them to the international racing scene as part of their development. This win is a bonus and it goes to show that their hard work is already paying off even at this early stage”. Team Suzuki Pilipinas will once again conquer the SAC tracks in Thailand this August. The boys are wearing LS2 Arrow R Comet helmet during their race, a helmet designed by MotoGP racers for MotoGP racers. LS2 helmets are distributed by MotoWorld.

Touching Lives in Nueva Ecija It has been a practice of Suzuki

riders’ clubs to conduct charity rides. If power and great performance run in their Suzuki bikes, the dedication to help the needy runs in the blood of each Suzuki rider. And as a testament of this the Quezon City Skydrive Brotherhood (QCSDB) did their first official long ride and charity activity recently at the northern most part of Nueva Ecija. A relatively young club established in 2014, the Quezon City Skydrive Brotherhood was formed with the goal to gather together the growing number of Suzuki Skydrive 125 owners of the city in the spirit of brotherhood while promoting safety riding. Over 40 riders gathered late Saturday evening for an overnight drive to Bongabon, Nueva Ecija via the Pan

Pacific Highway. The 160-kilometer trip to Brgy. Pesa in Bongabon was a breeze with the necessary stopover to fill the riders’ hungry stomachs with hot porridge along

the way. Arriving to the destination at 5:30 AM – 3 hours early than the scheduled charity activity, the team used their spare time to take some rest. QCSDB’s charity activity reached out to seven day care centres in the far flung areas of Bongabon, Nueva Ecija – the Pesa Day Care Center, Sitio Tamale Day Care Center, Digmala Day Care Center, Calaanan Day Care Center, Labi Day Care Center and Sitio Baong Day Care Center. With the objective to lessen the expenses during class opening, QCSDB provided the basic items that a student may need in school – a set of bag, notebook, paper, pencil, a pair of scissors and crayons. The group also went ahead and gave out raincoats in time for the rainy season. Team Suzuki on the other hand, provided a drawstring bag as an additional gift to the kids. What was a supposedly single-venue charity ride became two when some of the kids weren’t able to come due to distance and transportation problem. Realizing the dilemma, the group gamely agreed to travel 10 kilometers more from Brgy. Pesa - where the first charity activity was held, just to deliver the items to the children. The weariness of less sleep and still empty stomachs did not hinder the group who found new strength upon seeing the majestic view on the way to Brgy. Labi, which is already just a few kilometres away

from the province of Aurora. Seeing the happy faces of over 150 kids that they were able to help are more than reward for the group. The Brgy. Officials of Pesa and Labi prepared a lunch feast boodlefight style that all shared on. Before heading back to the noise and buzz of Manila, the group stayed a little while in Nueva Ecija to refresh at a nearby resort. “This is the first long and charity ride of our group and we are really happy of the outcome. We’ve always loved riding together and having done it for a cause is definitely hitting two birds with one stone. Seeing the smiles of the kids and their parents felt really fulfilling. We are thankful to everyone who helped us made this event possible”, QCSDB Chairman Constantino Panes shared. The QCSDB Charity Ride was made possible through the efforts of the whole QCSDB Club with its founder Mr. Joseph Isip in partnership with Ms. Monica Dinglasan of DSWD Day Care Center of Bongabon supported by the major donors from July Manufacturing Co. Inc.- General Manager Mr. Wilson Ng and Sales Manager Mr. Michael Ng and Mr. Norman Alqueza. Suzuki Philippines Club Relations Specialist Sherwin Florendo and Ad and PR Supervisor Edelyn Yanilla joined the event as well.

The Motorsiklo News team witnessed how motivated they were in helping the community by showing their preparedness to come up with an event and invited Pampangeùo riders. While waiting for the program, the host entertained the riders with gifts from their supporters – SOGO, LS2 Helmets, Motorcycle World Magazine, the Pampanga local government and the Law Enforcement Riders Association of the Philippines (or L.E.R.A.P.) to name a few.

Councilor Edu Pamintuan spoke in behalf of Pampanga Mayor, and said that he was honored to be with the riders and the motorcycle community. He shared that he is used to being a rider and a moped user, and candidly told his fear of riding a bike beside a 4-wheeled vehicle. Entertainment such as Biker Babe contest, Motokhana, Bike display, Creative helmet display, and a song number from Sir Sonny Parson, was installed to liven up the event. Induction and oathtaking of the officers of PMRA immediately followed, and members of the alliance and participants congratulated them. It was a full-packed activity for all the riders of the community of Pampanga. SUZUKI RAIDER R150

BIKE REVIEW

U

nderbones started the motorcycle craze here in the country which gave way to the growth of the industry. People now found an alternative way to commute to work that is practical and time efficient. The fuel economy and affordable maintenance coupled with the benefit of controlling your time makes the underbone motorcycle a great mode of transportation.

The Suzuki Raider R150 is no stranger to the riding public, for even the laymen knows about this little beast. Say the Raider R150’s name to anyone on the street and they will react with “Vrrrrooooooommmmm!!!” instantaneously. It was dubbed as the “King of the Roads” way back when the underbone generation was at its peak.

The underbone category of motorcycles are small compared to the standard backbone counterpart but it is not to be under estimated, for bikes can go fast!

Many underbone brands tried to go head-to-head with the R150 when it comes to engine performance but nothing can ever beat its power both torque and top end speeds. The DOHC characteristics and 4-Valve oil cooled engine is very hard to beat. Its 6 speed tranny is responsive to every gear change and its high RPM nature gives the rider optimum performance in any given situation.

In the small bike segments of the industry, the underbone riders are the classification of riders who wants to go fast on an affordable motorcycle, because most of them are the regular income wage earners. They’re the ones who dreams of sports bikes that are fast and stylish but their budget couldn’t give them the opportunity to own one. That’s why the underbone bikes which are affordable caught their attention, some even modify and customize these bikes into looking like the sports bikes that they dream of. The looks and even the engine modifications are being done just to go a little bit faster than the stock condition. Riders wants it fast! This is testament to the ones we see on the roads, for the unending stop light race battles ensues everyday. Smaller underbones but faster even faster than the standard backbone models and scooters around. Very easy to operate with a low seat height that the average Filipino can ride. The maneuverability and agility is so manageable that it’s so fun to ride whether for everyday use or the week end long rides.

MOTORSIKLO NEWS MAGAZINE 2015

The smooth and light clutch makes the everyday long hour ride comfortable and fun. The braking system are both disc front and back, giving confidence in stopping power. It’s awesome to ride even in rainy days because the tires are built to keep you planted on the ground. The headlight has a new design and is more aggressive and handsome as compared to the previous models. Ride stance is of the sporty style making you lean more to the front for sporty handling and control. The seat is soft for long rides outside the City and the suspensions up front has great fork play. The rear monoshock can handle uneven and unpaved roads with smooth absorbing return even with a heavy pillion passenger. The most sought after trait that the Suzuki Raider R150 has is its speed. Though fast both acceleration and top end speeds, the R150 is fuel efficient and can give around 30 - 35 kilometers per liter. Adding on to its fuel

efficiency is the built in fuel economy indicator light that will tell you when to shift to a gear while operating the motorcycle. The fuel tank capacity is estimated at 4-5 liters... hey, that can bring you farther than you can imagine on a full tank. But remember, the Raider R150 was designed to go fast and to satisfy the urge of those adrenalin junkies, so don’t be shy to twist that throttle and let the beast out and free to roar. The instrument clusters are well placed for ease of operation, it’s easy for the thumb’s reach. The digital speedometer console is visible to the rider’s point of view even in bright sunny days. The tachometer is large and very sporty looking making you want to go high on that rev meter. The acceleration from stop to 100kph is around 12 to 15 seconds, depending on the weight of the rider and this of course was what we got on our test unit and I am about 190 pounds. Top speed is 145 kph and some say they can get more out of it. We are not promoting road racing, we just simply want the people to know the premium craftsmanship that the Suzuki Raider R150 has, and that it is an everyday bike and race bike for your track days. This little beast is not for the weak at heart for the sure blood rush will lead to adrenalin pack riding. Enough of the specs on paper, I happen to own three R150’s years back and I am testament to how powerful it is. The new Raider is no different from the earlier models for a mere facelift is what separates it from the old, for why replace a perfect bike to create a new line right?! Every twist of the throttle puts me in the zone to slice through the speeds. The corners and the straights makes every bit amazing! I went places on a Raider R150 without any problems. It runs like a young steed even with high mileage. The utility it brings me on work days and the fun on weekends sure makes it a complete bike. It still is a head turner in traffic and the assurance that you will always have the needed edge on the streets is what it promises. The Suzuki Raider R150 has already made a mark in the motorcycling industry and it will stay there on top of the best bikes ever made. The practicality, quality, performance, and effeciency of this bike is top notch... so get one to own for it is a bike worth keeping.

BIKER BUILD OFF June 13, 2015, the event Motobuild

Pilipinas: Music, Moto Trade Fair & Biker Build-off in Tiendesitas became the main attraction as motorcycle builders, restorer and enthusiast gathered together for a grand event that shows how much Filipinos love motorcycles. Every proud mechanic showcased their artwork and the crowd simply loved it, from the sleek and sexy lines of a Honda CB400 to the radical shape of an off-road going Yamaha 125 with surfing accessories. The show instantly became a total hit to the heart of motorcycle lovers and a wake-up call for those who have love for motorcycles and just don’t know it yet. Tension filled the air when the judging started. The judges took their time to observe, critic and kept a sharp eye on the details. Every bike has its own character that made it unique on its own, and if you ask me, I won’t vote or

pick which bike is the best for all of them are simply amazing. Every line immaculate and also in every rivet or bolt, a decision that make the biker builder happy and content. There are dozens of participants that made the event an awesome sight to see but the most anticipated event was when the unveiling of the 5 customized motorcycles from 5 amazing builders. All the bike builders were selected and all of them are talented at their own rights. They’re Jonathan of Fart Monkeez, Elmer of Laguna Choppers, the Malapitan father and son, Hardcore Brothers and Todee of Kratos Customs. Unfortunately, Hardcore Brothers were unable to participate in the unveiling event. All bikes that were selected was courtesy from Ropali Motorcycles, and the bikes were the Suzuki GD110, Bajaj CT150 and CT100, and Honda TMX 155. The unveiling of these modified bikes captured both attention and curiosity of all those in the event.

MOTORSIKLO NEWS MAGAZINE 2015

By Rap Saavedra

The first to unveil was the Laguna Chopper’s Bajaj CT100, the facade of this bike defies what a chopper should be, equipped with leaf spring on the front fork, bare metal on the tank, tubes for body frame, hard tail with spring on the seats and wood accents, this bike definitely stole the show, the craftsmanship of this bike is simply mesmerizing for it shouted for attention, every detail of this bike is something that will make a critic smile. It is beyond expectations and the welded parts is exposed for the eyes to see. It is truly a stunning machine what Laguna Choppers did. The second bike that was unveiled was the Malapitan Father and Son’s Honda TMX 155, built with having fun on the dirt in mind, the Malapitans showed how to make a proper tracker out of a normal motorcycle that is dedicated to be used and abused as a tricycle. What the Malapitans did was incorporate a 21 inch dirt bike wheels both front and back, with added custom gas tank that is shaped like a coffin, funny thing is, it worked! The main feature of this bike was the rear suspension, some will think that it is a hard tail bike, but they manage to deceive the eyes of the untrained, they somehow able to slip the suspension behind the engine which made some think “how?” and that is how they want it to be. Over all, it is a proper dirt bike that you would want to have in trial rides.

The third to unveil was from Kratos Kustoms. The Spirit of the Seventies lingers in mind when you say Café Racer, and Café Racer was what they brought in the table, using the Suzuki GD110, they were able to produce such a stunner, like the 70’s Moto Guzzi V7 or Ducati 900SS, this little Suzuki will be a great definition of café racer on a budget, using raw talent and cunning imagination. Kratos Kustoms were able to deliver a magnificent machine from a bike that was made for utility purposes. The last unvieled bike was the biggest bike in the biker-build off, and it’s a Bajaj CT150, customized by Jonathan of Fart Monkeez, and what surprises us is that he built the bike alone. He used all of what he’s got in his garage. The simplicity of this bike speaks louder than it’s looks, the great story of building alone was already a great feat, for he used his old muffler and placed it on the CT150. He also removed the springs off the forks and it acted as a shock absorber, he then replaced the springs with leaf springs and it worked just fine. The seat was made into a single seater bike, and he also replaced the rear swing-arm with a mono-shock. Jonathan left the bike in plain creamy-white color and slabs a decal of “Fart Monkeez” on the tank. The bike and its story was poetry in the making and I’d buy it if I only have the money for it.

The day went on and the crowd loved every bike that was showcased in the event and the spirit of it was even uplifted when bands started playing their music. Each and every band sounded like it was their concert. The night fell and one more bike appeared at the entrance door, it’s from the Hardcore Brother’s... a Suzuki custom bike... However, it was unable to participate in the contest but that didn’t stop them from displaying the bike and be proud of their creation. The crowd continued to pile up around the bikes and at the stage front when the band

Imago played and this really made the mood even more alive. Hopefully, there will be another Biker Build-off like this and hopefully, there will be more talented builders to participate and to showcase their craft.

G-Dink 300i

BIKE REVIEW

Hmmm… what can I say about the G-Dink 300i from Kymco? “I know…. Amazing!” I have been riding motorcycles for the longest of time and scooters really are the fun bunch. Its ease of use and operation plus the comfy ride makes it a hit with riders of all ages, for the twist and go really is in demand especially in today’s traffic. The streets are now filled with small displacement scooters and seeing a maxi-scoot on the streets are rare. Maxi-scoots have large displacement engines compared to the ordinary street scooters and they sure are huge. Often times it makes me wonder how hard it is to ride it on the streets with traffic situations that are bumper to bumper because of its heavy body and large size. I thought I needed to find out for myself, I must ride a maxi-scoot…. So thanks to Kymco for lending us their new G-Dink 300i for review. The first time I laid hands on the G-Dink 300i I immediately felt its strong presence, from the intimidating looks to its luxurious stance. The body dimension sure is for much bigger riders but it suites those under 5 feet 6 inches in height perfectly.

30

MOTORSIKLO NEWS MAGAZINE 2015

My review will start on the G-Dink’s ability in acceleration and top end speed. The only stretch I could maximize the G-Dink’s horsepower performance was the SLEX road going to Magallanes. The 1 kilometer stretch of road before going up the EDSA flyover was the most exciting part in riding the Kymco. 0-60kph is just under 8 seconds and top speed of 145 kilometers over that stretch road is at 12 to 15 seconds…. In conclusion it’s freakin fast and torquey. There was even this one time that another maxi scooter was staring the red traffic light with me and I knew that when the light turns green, a friendly gauge is inevitable. A quick glance at one another signaled the intent and the agreement of a friendly drag race and so I readied on my throttle. ‘Green!’ said the traffic light and we both accelerated hard towards that straight line for which we agreed to test our bike’s power… it sure enough the Kymco G-Dink 300i did not disappoint for I made him literally eat my dust. Not only does it possess powerful acceleration it also is very stable in fast speed making everything about the 300i comfortable and fun. The engine of the G-Dink 300i is fuel injected and the powerful 300cc displacement also has 4 stroke overhead cam that sure is thrifty on gas mileage. The 300i is also liquid cooled suitable for long distance travel and bumper to bumper traffic. The 17 horsepower will surely give you the adrenalin punch you are so looking for. I noticed how smooth the engine

roars and that it can easily handle my weight and size even on uphill conditions. The wide tires grip the roads well giving you that comfortable feeling as you bank on corner turns. I still recalled the time I got caught in bumper to bumper traffic and it was so hot that my ride jacket got wet and dry at the same time. The G-Dink gave me the much needed confidence in every façade of its maneuverability through the tight gaps I squeezed into, and the lane splits that felt more like play ala Gymkhana. It took me to where I was supposed to be in the nick of time… traffic is no hindrance to this awesome Kymco. Braking is crisp thanks to its front and rear disc brakes, so those abrupt stops will always be safe and smooth. The under seat compartment can house in a full face helmet which is very functional in ways when it comes to your carry-on luggage. It sure is big compared to other scooters you’ll find on the streets but it’s surprisingly light to handle and it’s fun too. I remember when I needed to squeeze through gaps in a bumper to bumper traffic that made me carry the 300i’s weight in every space I can slip into, and it didn’t give me any problem. Having someone as pillion passenger is as easy as riding a much lighter bike around the metro. The handling is much more precise when you’re at top speeds for it makes it more planted to the ground giving you more traction and power at the rear. Your pillion passenger will even enjoy the ride especially the view, for the seat at the back is much higher giving a wider picture of the ride in perspective. The agility is still there even though

much heavier for it was built for the everyday city ride, plus the smooth suspension that can handle the roughest road adulations. It’s great for City riding and even in long rides out of town for not only does it have the power, it also have the comfort you need in any given riding situation. The handling is superb making it a good every day ride. The convenience in riding a scooter is present in the persona of the 300i maxiscoot. It also promises potential in the scooter market today for riders will surely love this scooter. We also believe that it is the era for Maxiscooters for nothing compares to twist and go operation with power to compliment every ride. The premium look and finish makes the 300i a must have to scooter lovers, the digital instruments and up to date ergonomics make it a scooter to be proud of. The lines and all its features makes it a complete package when it comes to everyday commute to work and play. A sizeable floor board can cater to more luggage space and the comfortable seat gives your pillion passenger an exhilarating ride feel which in ways make the Kymco 300i a bike for today’s rider. We strongly recommend the Kymco G-Dink 300i to all of you Siklowistas for this bike is not only fun, it is a full-packed commuter that will make your everyday riding more exciting lighter bike around the metro. The handling is much more precise when you’re at top speeds for it makes it more planted to the ground giving you more traction and power at the rear. Your pillion passenger will even enjoy the ride especially the view, for the seat at the back is much higher giving a wider picture of the ride in perspective. The agility is still there even though much heavier for it was built for the everyday city ride, plus the smooth suspension that can handle the roughest road undulation.

THE GRAND DINK 300i

A Greenhorn Eye Who Started to Ride

Words crossed my mind when I first taught of a word “Dink”. If I will think

of its acronym it might be “Dual Income, No Kids”. If I will relate it plainly as definition, it would be a luxury item that is not costly. The brand badged by KYMCO in its latest model, THE GRAND DINK, made me combine the taught playing my mind. I realized by analyzing its acronyms and definition, it describes comfort, luxury, and ease. Comfort for a couple to ride on with its generous seat and space provided. Luxury and quality for its class but not heavy on a budget and ease in riding. This is what KYMCO described in its Grand Dink unit – a perfect blend of design and technology created for the demands of today’s urban commuter that is safe, comfortable, easily navigates traffic, and safe that requires minimum cost. I made an attempt to mark it as valid badge for its class. A look at the KYMCO GRAND DINK 300i made an impression that this is a big baby. Its looks and style is sporty but a little bit intimidating. Am I ready to handle this big scooter and ride on city streets? A closer look made me think this beauty has a lot of things to offer. With its buttons found on its handle bar and looking closely at its label, I am in a 2-wheel with amenities of a 4-wheel no wiper if you will ask! It has a Tachometer, Speedometer, Odometer, Gas Gauge, and Clock. A very large Seat Compartment that can fit a full-face Helmet and bag, and a dual compartment in front for drinks and hand carry item is also present. Quick spin of this big beauty and I immediately felt the comfort of the huge seat and even assessed that the back rider will also be comfortable fitting in. The turning signals is comfortably located within reach without looking at it during turns. Its beam and bright lights too is located perfectly with its added feature park light buttons only available on 4-wheel. I did not attempt

34

MOTORSIKLO NEWS MAGAZINE 2015

inserting it between 4-wheeled vehicles not because of it’s huge body but for my skill reasons as a newbie. But then I happen to get stuck on traffic and saw a rider with the same model who made a passing comfortably. Traffic during my Highway ride in C5, Libis due to truck lane expects a huge displacement motorcycles overheating but the KYMCO GRAND DINK 300i was impressive due to its liquid cooling system feature. When traffic is in moderate situation, I was hoovering on the street with an acceleration I only feel on 4-wheels. Not a bad performance for a 300 cc 4-stroke Overhead Cam engine. I did not feel I was travelling almost 100kph despite unpaved road that made the Front Telescopic and Rear Double Swing Suspension system jump at times. The stopping power is really awesome. Both disc brake on front and rear is very responsive. Clearly I ride with luxury. Experiencing rain in riding this awesome motorbike is with ease due to its 120/70-13 tire in front and 120/70-12 at the back. I encountered potholes with water and was easily negotiated. BALIK ESKWELA 2015 The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet. -Aristotle

I can’t imagine living in a world without education. We all agree that in order

to succeed in life, education is one of the most important key. Some would say, “Well, Bill Gates and Steve Jobs or even Mark Zuckerberg didn’t finish school”. But we can’t deny the fact that they all went to school before they succeeded.

Cebu Scoopy Club has been organized 3 years ago. To play with the number, the club organized its 3rd outreach program, Balik Eskwela 2015. This outreach program aims to provide school supplies to students and our beneficiaries for this program are the first grade pupils of Langub Elementary School in Argao, Cebu. Why a mountain barangay in the town of Argao when there are also a lot of students in the city or even within Metro Cebu? We are of the belief that areas like Langub Argao, help is probably scarce. Here in Metro Cebu, there are a lot of organizations and even politicians who offer help to students. Don’t get us wrong, students here in the metro need help as well. We just thought that difficult-to-reach barangay schools need more help. We gathered in Honda Philippines Lahug Office, our usual gathering place. One of our sponsors, Johnson Sy Chiaoco also planned to join us in this ride and he brought his own cage with him. At around 7 or 8 in the morning, we decided to start the ride from Cebu City to Langub, Argao. Some Scooperos joined us in Talisay and Naga. We encountered a few slow traffic here and there because we were not able to ride off earlier. We reached Barangay Langub Argao at around 10 AM, our target destination and our beneficiaries for this outreach event are the grade one pupils of Langub Elementary School in Argao, Cebu. The road going to the school was quite rough and rocky because it was not developed and it was expected because it’s a mountain barangay where we thought help will probably be scarce than schools here in the city. It’s also one of the main reasons why we chose this school. Good thing our Honda Scoopy is reliable (as always) even in these type of roads. When we arrived, the students, parents, teachers were already there. The school head was also present as well as the Barangay Captain of Langub, Jonathan Villegas, Sr. There are only 28 first grade students of this school. We then went to one the rooms of the school to prepare our “little gifts” for these first grade students. Pencils, erasers, bond papers, writing pads and other school materials were prepared mostly by the CSC Ladies. The club also prepared a small program to formalize our outreach event for

the school. Our Master of Ceremony was no other than the club’s Daddy Noel Tuazon Divinagracia. The prepared school supplies were then brought to the stage and after a few minutes, we started our program. The program started with an invocation by Scoopero Rexel Olavides, followed by the National Anthem lead by Rayden Bathan, another fellow Scoopero. A welcome address by one of our lady Scoopero Chay Larsen then followed. Since it’s already a little late (yup, we arrived a little late), we figured the children might be a little hungry already. We brought with us snacks for everyone (except for us, lol) so what followed next was the giving away of snacks to students and parents so they can enjoy the rest of the program with filled tummies. While the parents and kids were eating, the program continued to save more time. A song number was given by our fellow Scoopero Christopher Abayan. After the small feast, our dynamic Emcee decided to gather the kids and do a small number together with the singer Christopher. The next part of the program was the parlor games headed by the CSC Backriders Issay Chiu and Marian Cielo. They played statue dance and the winners were given prizes. The losers weren’t that unlucky because my daughter Myka also has something for everybody, including the losers. After the games, the club went on to give away the school supplies we brought. We have the children lined up and we saw their eagerness to receive their share. It was quite a heart-warming experience. After the program, with our tummies screaming, we went on to the anticipated Budol Fight. My wife’s aunt prepared the food for us. Tables were set and filled with banana leaves and the food were laid on the leaves ready to be eaten. After lunch and a little rest, we decided to go back to the city. The activity was successful and it left us with a great sense of satisfaction. We are hoping for more activities like this to come. We would like to acknowledge our sponsors for this event (in no particular order) Johnson Sy Chiaoco, Davies Paint, Noel Tuazon Divinagracia, Nick and Dandy Ouano, Josie Cladding, Cathvan Lael, Jose Nazareno and all Cebu Scoopy Club Scooperos who donated and volunteered. Cheers for more outreach programs to come. Ride Safe! Ride Scoopy! Godspeed!

Road Safety Action Plan and Consultative Workshop By JB Bolanos

I was given the opportunity to take part in this year’s Road Safety Action Plan and Consultative Workshop on Road Safety in the Philippines. Upon scanning of the participant’s kits, I already saw several concerns that affect us riders. Mostly on previous legislation that remain questionable because of the lack of details and technical information. We had a long day ahead of us and I hoped to be able to raise some of the concerns surrounding the motorcycling community.

Please help me by providing inputs that can be helpful in giving me a more in depth approach to addressing these concerns. By taking part in this discussion, we hope to bring you, into the workshop virtually and take part in providing the necessary input to represent the community. Are you ready? Put on your thinking caps and let’s all give our best input that will be used for our reactionary statement. We have until the year ends to give our reactions and suggestions. Just send them to motorsiklonewsmagazine@gmail.com. Thank you!

HARLEY-DAVIDSON

Street 750

BIKE REVIEW

The Street is what we make out of it, it can be a place of fun or of stress. The everyday traffic can be such a cool place to be at if you’re an optimistic person. How can you turn a bad situation into a good one? Simple… ride a Harley-Davidson!

T

ry the first ever Harley-Davidson manufactured in India, the “Street 750”, this 750cc machine truly is tailor fitted to the Asian market. We all know that we are a nation of Riders, and as Riders we love to travel whether it be on long weekend rides or the daily commute. The monthly or weekly meet ups with ride buddies shows we are all into motorcycles. With this, the new Street 750 was ergonomically designed for riders like us with control and agility making every sudden maneuvers safe and precise. Smaller riders really will love this new Harley-Davidson. The streets of Metro Manila is the best place for the new Harley-Davidson Street 750 for not only does it provide comfort in the everyday road conditions, it also provides the fun and excitement we riders need especially in any given situation. But don’t get us wrong, for the Street 750 can also be one of the best touring bikes available today if you want to go as far South or North. The new Harley-Davidson Street 750 targets the much younger generation and the proliferation of new women riders. Who wouldn’t want to be seen on a Harley-Davidson, especially when you’re young and adventurous? HarleyDavidson knew how to tickle one’s fancy by showing the practicality but at the same time rebellious nature of motorcycle freedom. The Street 750’s all black and dark looks is every bit of Harley-Davidson exuding its persona. But will this new Harley-Davidson Street 750 capture the interest of old and new riders? Let’s find out!

The bike looks small as compared to other cruisers but the lifestyle and euphoric aura is present especially to its premium quality finish making everyone say… “I want one!” It’s a 749cc liquid cooled V-Twin revolution X engine which is a collaboration of Harley-Davidson and Porsche. But unlike the traditional 45 degrees V-Twin engine this bike is a shorter 60 degree V-Twin that was built specifically to lower the height of the bike and its center of gravity giving the rider more control over curves and traffic. Because of its higher ground clearance, it is a fun bike to take on the twisties of MARILAQUE. The suspensions are great for it can handle road undulations with ease and comfort, even with a pillion passenger. The long suspension travel of the front forks really is great on sudden drops due to road scars that is so very evident in our city streets. The low saddle height but high ground clearance really is fit for the average Filipino rider who wants to conquer the streets in style. I imagine young professionals riding this Street 750 with smiles on their faces because this is the very first Harley-Davidson that caters well to beginners, whether male or female with a more comfortable stance and fuel economy. Despite of its longer wheel base, it still fits in traffic gaps thanks to its lower center of gravity and skinny front tire with the broad handle bars that makes it easy to maneuver. The speed bumps are handled with ease making every ride smooth and worry-free.

ALL-NEW LIQUID-COOLED REVOLUTION X™ ENGINE

The new Revolution X™ engine is 749 cubic centimeters of authentic, liquid-cooled, custom Harley-Davidson® motorcycle built for urban streets. Liquid cooling means it maintains temperature and performance. You can feel the strength and character of the engine at the RPM ranges you find yourself riding in most often on city streets. Get in the saddle, fire up the Revolution X™ engine, put the bike into gear and go.

SIX SPEED TRANSMISSION

The new Harley-Davidson Street™ 750 motorcycle feeds the power of the Revolution X™ engine to the pavement through a rock-solid, smooth-shifting six speed transmission. It’s easy to stay in the powerband when you’re changing speeds and weaving and dodging in traffic. And when you do get onto an open stretch of pavement, sixth gear lets you drop the engine into an easy, loping cadence for a smooth, comfortable ride.

MID-MOUNT CONTROLS

It isn’t the lay way back with your heels in the breeze riding position. This riding position was devised to let you get the most out of time on your motorcycle in the urban grid. The new Harley-Davidson Street™ 750 motorcycle features slightly-forward mid-mount foot controls for a riding position that keeps you comfortable, but ready to negotiate and react to the demands of traffic.

Traffic heat and congestion is of no concern with this new bike from Harley-Davidson, for its liquid cooled engine can handle the hottest days without giving you overheating problems. On open roads though, the Harley-Davidson Street 750 is a beast with an engine that can make your blood skyrocket. The smooth engine operation makes it vibrationfree which in turn gives you the outmost comfort even if you let all those horses out. The 6 speed tranny and linear power delivery is not that intimidating, but be careful of letting all those horses out for you must be wary of the proper braking techniques, for it’s not that easy to tame this awesome beast. There’s a lot at stake for Harley-Davidson with regards to this new Street bike, but we are confident that this bike will have all guns blazing and will make a very significant wave on our shores especially to its pocket friendly price that can give Harley-Davidson enthusiast the opportunity to own one. THE AMAZING

ENDURANCE TOUR By Emman “Mistah Suave” Balmes

Since I started joining motorcycle endurance events a few years back,

most of them were held during the start of the year. The Motorally, Ironman Challenge, and the Summer Endurance are all being held every first quarter. The only exception is the Manila-Matnog-Manila Challenge which is being held every November. After the Summer Endurance, it is usually an 8-month wait before the next endurance event. But not this year, when Nexx Tep Events Management organized a first of its kind motorcycle endurance event which they called The Amazing Tour – 24hr Motorcycle Endurance Challenge. Held last June 13, this event was a 24-hour motorcycle endurance ride that covered approximately 1,000kms around Eastern and Western Luzon. The route was classified into two, namely Route A and Route B. Technically the route are the same but ran on opposite directions. The participants drew envelopes a few minutes before takeoff to determine which Route they will take. Inside the envelope is a piece of paper with a clue to a particular place which will be their first checkpoint. Once they reach that destination, they again will draw another piece of paper with a clue to the next checkpoint. This goes on until the last checkpoint where the piece of paper instructs them to proceed to the finish line.

MOTORSIKLO NEWS MAGAZINE 2015

I had no intention of joining the event mainly because of budget constraints. The event was scheduled last June, which for most of us, would be the time that our wallets would be stripped clean from tuition fees and back to school requirements. However, generous sponsors made it possible for me to register and join and for the first time in years, I’ll be riding my own motorcycle in an endurance event. After prepping the bike a few days prior to takeoff, I prepped myself a day before since it was a holiday. Even though I regularly join events similar to this, I still find it hard to get some shut-eye before the event. I somehow managed to get a couple of hours sleep before getting up at 8pm to get ready. The scheduled take-off was at 12midnight so I had a couple of hours to re-check everything at the starting point. 5 minutes before take-off, the marshals went around and asked each participants to pick an envelope. We were not allowed to open the envelope yet to read the clue to the next checkpoint, so my riding buddy Jeric planned to open it along the service road. As the clock struck 12, all 48 participants sped off towards the North. As fate would have it, I picked Route B. While all of my friends and riding buddy picked Route A. That meant that unless I get to tag along someone with the same pace, I’d be all alone for the entire ride. We stopped along a gas station to read our clue. Route A’s first checkpoint was Dingalan (which would be my last checkpoint) and Route B’s first checkpoint was Iba. I chose to ride thru CP Garcia in UP Diliman while my buddies chose to go straight towards Balara and Congressional Avenue, I never saw them after that. Both route will converge at Muñoz EDSA so I don’t know if I arrived there first or if I was trailing behind. From Monumento to Bocuae, I rode with a Jedi, lady rider who was actually snaking through traffic better than I did. She stopped at Shell Bocaue where I also saw several participants as I rode ahead. From this point until Iba, I was all alone. At one point along JASA highway, I rode with two participants but somehow they got left behind before Bataan. When I arrived at Iba, I started to panic. I couldn’t find the checkpoint location. I spent 20 minutes trying to google if I had the correct place and I even tried calling the Head organizer and the marshals in which I got no answer (they might be asleep already…or drunk). After almost 30 minutes, three other participants arrived and we decided to ask a tricycle driver. As it turned out, the clue itself already had the name of the location and it was located at the outskirts of Iba proper. After picking the next clue to the next destination, I headed off. This time, towards Anda in Pangasinan. It was my first time going there so I really didn’t know which route to take. I relied on Google maps to show me the route which in turn did a good job. After picking the next checkpoint clue and a quick stop for picture taking at the Anda bridge, I headed towards Tarlac City. At this point, the sun was already up and more vehicles were on the road now. Apart from that, there were more people crossing as well as dogs and with some chickens too. When I got to Tarlac, I spotted another participant. It was Mel on his CBR 150. I stopped to ask him if he knew where the checkpoint was. The checkpoint location was at a Shell station and he mentioned that

MOTORSIKLO NEWS MAGAZINE 2015

there were many Shell stations in Tarlac city. So we checked each one and found that the checkpoint was the last station before leaving the city proper. After that, we agreed to ride together but due to a wrong information from a taxi driver, I took a wrong turn going to TPLEX plus another wrong turn going to Guimba en route to San Jose. I wasted 17 minutes based on both our time log at Checkpoint 4. Our next destination was going eastward towards Baler. Being a newbie, again I lost precious time because I took the longer way via Talavera whereas I could have taken the newly built San Jose – Pantabangan road. Upon reaching Baler, I checked our time difference and this time, it was already over an hour. Let me reiterate that I am not checking the time difference to race against others but to check how much time I lost by passing through the wrong route. Moving on, as it was almost noon and the sun was blistering hot, I rode on towards my last checkpoint which was Dingalan. This time, google maps almost made me lose time again by making me pass thru the route where there were unpaved roads. I chose to ask some locals who pointed me to the paved route. When I reached my last checkpoint, I just drank a glass of cold water and chatted with the marshals who happened to be fellow participants in the past endurance events. I then sped up for the last leg of the ride from Dingalan back to the starting point in Bicutan. Traffic was hellish from Marilao all the way to Monumento. Majority of this was because one lane was closed in Monumento which caused bottle-neck traffic. Finally, upon reaching EDSA, I breezed through, arriving at the finish line at 6:44pm. I breathed a sigh of relief because honestly, I had doubts about my bike finishing the event. I haven’t used it in a long ride, much more a ride that would be non-stop for 1,000kms. To my surprise, it did well. Actually, it did very, very well. Out of the 48 brave riders who took the challenge, 40 finished within the 24hour time limit. But as they would say, joining the challenge and taking off from the starting point was already an achievement for the rider. So helmets off to all 48 brave riders who faced the challenge. As per Tere, (the head organizer), this is just the beginning. They are planning several stages of this event with different twists and different routes. And as for me… will I join again? Let’s see

The Biggest Gathering of

Motorcycle for a Safety Ride

SIKLOWISTAS do love travelling by land, in group, and with a

cause. We often encounter weekend riders from Manila gathering as early as four in the morning for a group ride. Often favorite destination is MARILAQUE (Marikina-Rizal-Laguna-Quezon); BONPEN (Bundoc Pennisula); and short rides like TAGAYTAY. Last 24th of May 2015, Sunday, was a very different ride. Suzuki Motorcycle Philippines, Ropali Motorcycles, DOT, MDDPA, MRO & riding advocate organizations and motorcycle clubs work hand in hand in Roxas Boulevard as starting point in an attempt for the biggest gathering of Motorcycle Riders in awareness for a disciplined and safe ride. MRO Consultant and Motorsiklo News Talkshow host Sir Jobert Bolanos together with Ms. Lousie Bolton of the Sex Bomb dancers kicked of the program with a very pleasant greet to all riders present in Luneta Stadium where the record is set. DOTC Assec. Dante Lantin gave inspiring words as thousand of riders registered in the event to learn the basic tips in riding a motorcycle – checking of bikes before using it; proper safety gears; proper riding posture; proper handling of bikes during turns; and of course proper group ride basics. It was a very awesome morning as riders participated in games that also encourages riders to apply proper braking system. Suzuki Philippines Sir Noel Villapando and Sir Mel Aquino, safety ride advocate and Motorsiklo News Talkshow host, spearheaded the lecture and finished the seminar with appreciation.

It was a very hot afternoon and became even hotter as temperature went high when the crowd was entertained by the new batch of SexBomb dancers. Truly it was a favorable destination as part of the weekend group ride for everyone. To Suzuki Philippines, Ropali Motorcycles, DOT, MDDPA, and the Safety Riding Advocates, WE SALUTE YOU SIKLOWISTAS!!!

ROYAL ENFIELD

BULLET 350

O

ne of the best brand of motorcycles are being made in India, the Royal Enfield. History says, that in 1893 the Enfield Manufacturing Company was set-up but a few years later, the name Royal Enfield Company started producing bicycles and engines. Later, they started building motorcycles right at the time of the world war and so technically, the Royal Enfield company is the oldest motorcycle manufacturing company in the world.

REVIEW

The Bullet 350 appeared in the post war era and carried the tag line “Made like a gun goes like a bullet” which means this bike is built though. Looking at these handsome classic bikes make you go back in time when everything was smooth and easy. The Bullet 350 makes you remember the way of life from post war living which then gave way to the booming popularity of motorcycles as a way to express freedom and expression. The persona and character you project riding the Bullet 350 takes everyone’s breath away, making people smile as you pass by. Cool and manly presence everytime you hop on the bike is immediately felt radiating to everyone around. There is always that euphoric trance exuding out from motorcycles that projects classic looks and styling and no one can resist it. The Bullet 350 will never go out of style and will always be as handsome today as in the future. The Bullet 350 has a single cylinder, 4 stroke engine with twin spark plugs that makes it very fuel efficient. So don’t be gentle on that throttle and let out the beast under your crotch and feel it rock your soul. The comfortable seat gives longer riding satisfaction even with a pillion passenger. The heavy bike is complimented by the great handling and stability in any speed range, making you confident in any road condition you ride at.

1 The road conditions here in the Philippines really are irritating but don’t fret for the Bullet 350 can handle those speed bumps and deep potholes with ease, thanks to its very reliable front forks and dual rear suspensions. This bike can even go off-road whether wet or dry conditions making it a very versatile motorcycle. Its 346cc carburated engine lets out 19.8 horsepower that is capable of strong acceleration pull and a good top end speed. The 5,200 rpm in its range makes the vibration felt and that is how manly this motorcycle is. It can pull you from 0 to 100 kph under 12 seconds and top at around 130 to 140 kph. A very fast bike that can handle the overtaking speeds needed on the roads. Traffic gaps brings no issue to the Bullet 350 for it can slice through those bumper to bumper spaces and weaving in and out is easy and less the hassle. The powerful engine needs powerful stopping power, though built with only drum brakes both front and rear, it is well and able to put you in a halt safely. But, be wary of how to handle this classic beauty for drum brakes are not as effective as disc brakes guys. Ride the roads in style by cruising smoothly and not be a hooligan that will cost you your life. Hey, living longer gives you more time enjoying your bike. If you do like long travels out of town, don’t worry for the Bullets’ fuel tank is large enough to bring you farther than you’d expect, thanks to its 13.5 liter tank capacity. This baby can go toe-to-toe with any motorcycle out there for it was used many times in endurance rides here in the country, promising worry-free long distance travel. You can go anywhere you want to go even with a pillion passenger in tow. The elements can try their best in torturing the Bullet 350, but it can weather any storm and it can last anything that nature can throw at it. This bike is tough and durable period! Classic looks with elegant styling, the Royal Enfield Bullet 350 will last more than a life time, bringing you more years of adventures and commutes anywhere you want to be.

Give yourselves the best pampering and get a Royal Enfield Bullet 350 as reward for all the troubles you weathered in life. Feel the freedom and feel the joys you deserve, by riding a classic that is a Royal Enfield Motorcycle.

MRO rides to

Anawangin Cove HUNGRY TOURER - JB Bolanos

It’s been a while since MRO had organized a ride for its volunteers and

this was a ride long overdue. With the help of the social network giant Facebook, we were immediately swarmed with questions regarding the trip up Zambales. And within the first two weeks, we had seen more than 50 possible riders and their backrides showing interest in the much awaited leisure ride to a secluded beach in San Antonio called Anawangin. On the day of the much awaited event, most of the participants had a hard time sleeping before they took off for the meetup point in Mc Donalds Centris along EDSA. Nonetheless, the excitement was too high to keep them from joining this exciting trip. Upon reaching Centris, there were already about 15 bikes waiting for us to converge. And as soon as everybody had arrived, we gave them a ride briefing on formation, rules and hand signals to keep the group safe and the travel smooth. We had two groups. The advance party and the main group which was marshaled by our Cavite/South contingent. As experienced riders who are also equipped with radio communications, we took off from Centris and headed up Mc Arthur highway towards our first stop in San Fernando, Pampanga. A short drizzle before entering Mc Arthur was the only time rain threatened the ride. The road had very minimal issues and the group pushed at a safe place through Bulacan. When the advance party arrived in Shell, San Fernando, a couple more riders were already there waiting for us. After a couple of flat tires, the group came, tagging along two more riders who joined us in Bulacan. As soon as we were done with the fuel top-up, we then pushed on towards Olongapo for the next stop.

74

MOTORSIKLO NEWS MAGAZINE 2015

In Olongapo, members of the Zambales Olongapo Riders Alliance greeted us at another station for our last gas stop. Their group escorted us from there till our last stop in Pundaquit beach in San Antonio, Zambales where we parked our bikes and headed to the banka station for the 30 minute boat ride to Anawangin Cove, our destination. After securing our supplies and food for the beach, the group, consisting of over 30+ bikes and their backrides took to the shores and boarded the bankas to reach the cove. After securing a camp site, the group setup their tents and resting spots and immediately started the food preparation as we were all hungry and excited to start enjoying the beach. What sets a difference in Anawangin is the serenity it brings to its visitors. The way it is secluded from the bustle of city life and how you disconnect from everything. You see, there is no signal in this place and it relieves you of all your stress from the outside world. From camping, to hill climbing and swimming on the beach, Anawangin has become a favorite getaway for a lot of riders. And there is no view better that Anawangin. One of the best destinations for riders. And as much as we would like to stay longer, the group had to come home and get back to reality of everyday living. The group, after the nights stay in the quiet and relaxing cove, headed back to Manila the same way we got there. With a dinner stop in San Fernando, the trip was worry free and safe for all those who came with us. We will definitely organize another ride to this place near the end of the year. And we hope that you can come ride with us.

HARLEY OWNERS GROUP DONATION By Nestly Villamor

It’s almost two years since typhoon Yolanda and Ruby hit Eastern Visayas. Many family suffered and the most affected by these calamities were the schools.

So the Harley Owners Group (HOG) arranged a group ride to Samar with 41 riders, they traveled almost 2,500 kilometers just to give personally the money they’ve collected. It was not just an epic ride but it was also a ride for a cause for the people of Samar. Schools were given the chance to feel the kindness of the HOG. The epic ride started July 1, 2015 where all HOG members met at the Harley-Davidson of Manila showroom in EDSA. Then they set off to Balanggiga, E. Then they went to Guiuan Eastern Samar where they ate lunch and to turn over the cash donations to Lupok Central Elementary School, Guiuan Eastern Samar; where Mayor Christopher Sheen Gonzales of Guiuan was with them. They continued on their journey to the people of Samar, and they welcomed them with smiles on their faces, waving their hands as they came. This gave the riders enough courage to finish the ride even if it’s so exhausting, more energy was felt by riders when the students of Gen. MacArthur gave them a warm welcome. The riders provided more happiness when they arrived at Gen. MacArthur Central Elementary School, the Alma Mater of one of the town’s favorite son, Bro. Bal Asadon. The night before the wedding was the most unforgettable one, sapagkat first time ng lahat maka-experience ng pasayaw ng magkakabaranggay, kamag-anak at kapit-bahay.

Finally nag-touch-down kami sa CAGSAWA RUINS then nag-rest and gas up. Masayang experience din nang matikman namin ang Sili-shake. After the Cagsawa ruin experience, the group headed up to Marigundun sa pangalawang house na tutuluyan namin. Isa rin itong magandang experience kasi sa una namin tinuluyan kung saan namin naranasan ang mamuhay sa bundok at maligo sa ilog, dito naman naranasan namin makitira sa malapit sa dagat. LBRC going to Marigundun Albay Bicol at Valdez Family Residence.

Owning one will make you a bit paranoid knowing that others want your bike for their own, or simply scratch the paint when they try to sit on it, worry no more for Harley-Davidson has equipped the new Breakout with a Hands-Free Fob techntology that will wake your bike up when you’re near and let it sleep when you’re far away and it automatically raises an alarm to detect intruders. Together with this technology is a safety feature that is used in most high-end vehicles and expensive liter bikes, it has an ABS or Anti-Lock Braking System, for those who don’t know what ABS is; it is the breaking system that prevents your wheels to lock while you bury your foot on the brake, preventing unnecessary slides that will cause you to hit a pedestrian. It also provides more grip. Disc brakes are enormous with 4 pistons callipers, Harley-Davidson also incorporate this new breaking system on the bike that make it stop with less effort. The Breakout is low with a seat height of 660 mm, and a wheelbase of 1,710 mm, it has a balanced suspension system. Harley-Davidson engineers carefully calculated the proportions of this bike giving it a smooth and fun ride, also, they attend to the power-to-weight ratio as well as making the bike light as much as possible. Having to own or simply ride a Harley-Davidson puts a check in someone’s bucket list that is why each and every Harley-Davidson is unique in every way, either cruising in the country roads or rumbling through stop lights of Metro Manila nothing beats owning a Harley-Davidson and the feeling of freedom on the road, because there is no greater American bike experience out there than riding Harley-Davidson.

ARIANE ALINGOG The Lady Boss in Men’s World By Joyce Inocencio

The motorcycle industry is evidently dominated by men. With that, one would not expect otherwise to gain control and lead. In the same way, heading a motorcycle dealer company is not an easy job but Miss Ariane Arabel Alingog of Ropali Motorcycles is defying the odds. Currently the Money Keepers Group Head of the Ropali Motorcycles, Ariane is continuously making a buzz and proving why she is dubbed as the “Lady Boss.”

She is in constant glamour and sophistication,

from her hair to her makeup to her clothes up to her shoes. Everything is totally in place. Whether she is up for the corporate world or flaunting as a biker chic, Ariane definitely can sport any look. However, her style and looks does not do justice to what she is doing to help their company grow. She is more than what you see.

Ms. Ariane Alingog one on one interview with Mel Aquino

Before she got hold of her title in the Ropali Motorcycles, she managed to study overseas taking up undergraduate and masteral courses in Australia. She took up Marketing in Macquarie University and immediately pursued Masters in International Hospitality and Management from the University of Western Sydney. After graduation, she eventually came back to help the company. Growing up with their company, Ariane wanted to give back. She is working with Ropali Motorcycles for 4 years now. As the Lady Boss, she also serves as the role model for others showing that education does not come with age or time. Just recently, Ariane enrolled her second masteral course in one of the premier Universities in the Philippines. Being the risk taker that she is, Ariane is juggling school all throughout the week, and work during Fridays and Saturdays. What really made the difference is that Ariane is able to stand out in the motorcycle industry. It is not just about being the leader or the boss that makes her name. Ariane knows and understands the industry and its market. She is also able to get along well with all kinds of people, especially men wherein majority of their employees and the suppliers are of the opposite gender. Choosing the motorcycle industry over the banking industry in which their family also owns several businesses, Ariane is more inclined on the marketing and retail of the motorcycles. She chose chaos over structure in terms of the operations. She also sees the changing preferences of the consumers that resulted to spearheading new ventures of the company, the Ropali Classics and the Ropali Lifestyle Store. As time passed, women can also accomplish what the men had done and have been doing. Ariane is proof of that. The motorcycle industry had to adjust to the growing number of female riders. Yet, it is not just about the female riders taking over and conquering two wheels. It is also about who leads and takes over. It is about the Lady Boss, not just a woman but a total package of beauty and brains in the name of Ariane Arabel Alingog.

JAY BAUTIST JAY BAUTISTA

FEATURED RIDER

H

arley-Davidson of Manila has the best man to handle its most iconic Motorcycle Company and his name is Mr. Jay Bautista (General Manager). Jay started riding a motorcycle when he was 12 years old, and his Dad gave him his first bike which was a Dirt Bike... a DT 175cc 2 stroke from Yamaha. The whole family of both his Dad’s and Mom’s side were riders, so the blood in their veins has motorcycling DNA flowing inside their system. The very first Harley-Davidson motorcycle he got was way back in 1994, a 1200 Sportster and he said it was a rough bike but it’s a Harley-Davidson. He rode that Harley-Davidson bike on weekends and on breakfast rides with friends. It was not an easy transition from a Japanese bike to the Harley-Davidson bike which he said was really a cool difference though. A good friend of Jay called him and asked if he wanted to join the Harley-Davidson of Manila as General Manager and of course he didn’t turn down the privilege. The HarleyDavidson of Manila has a lot to offer the riding public, and since they are the full authorized dealer of Harley-Davidson here in the country, they sell Harley-Davidson motorcycles, Parts & Accessories, and apparels. The shop also caters maintenance and services for the bikes. Jay said, that it’s a cool thing Harley-Davidson of Manila is now here in the Philippines, and since 2013 they were offering the riding public the most sought after motorcycle brand in the world. If you guys wants to see Harley-Davidson motorcycles in person, their shop is located at EDSA Greenhills just beside the Mercedes showroom and it is open to all riders to visit. Mr. Jay Bautista encourages riders to visit their showroom or go online on their Facebook page Harley-Davidson of Manila to know more of the brand and its offerings. Jay said they will answer any inquires and even price quotations. So be happy Siklowistas, for the dream of having a Harley-Davidson motorcycle is now a reality. So wake up and go ride a Harley-Davidson!

FEATURED CLUBS FRIENDS ALONG THE ROAD RIDERS Our host Jobert Bolanos recently went for a ride going to Anawangin, and he had riders who went with him on this adventure. The ride was a memorable one which in turn gave birth to a new club called FARR or Friends Along the Road Riders. This group of riders made sure that the ride to Anawangin won’t be the last ride they’ll share together and that’s why creating a club is the best proposition. They all started through Facebook that led to Eyeballs or EB. They were then invited to come with Jobert Bolanos for the ride to Anawangin. They want to be a social club wherein they will meet up on a regular basis to release stress. They fully support Jobert Bolanos’ MRO week project that they think will make them more aware of motorcycle rights and advocacies. The group is now consisting of 62 members and joining their club is easy just go find them in Facebook by searching FARR club. Those who wants to join the FARR club just get in touch with them on Facebook and we assure you that these guys really are cool to be with.

RIDERS NG TONDO Riders ng Tondo all are from Tondo and their Club President Keith Tan and Vice President Rhay Banbonil made sure that the club is a credible one. The Riders ng Tondo club started on July 7, 2013 and they were only 10 members back then, but they are now about 60 members. They are an open group and they said that you don’t need to live in Tondo to be a member, everyone are encouraged to join as long as they share the same advocacy. They don’t discriminate riders when it comes to thier chosen bike for their only concern is how one practice ride discipline and safety. They stage rides for charity and wants to help our fellow countrymen through such advocacies. They are not just clubmates but they consider themselves as family. They make sure to help each other out in anyway that they can. Be part of their family by attending their meetings and with free membership. Look for their Facebook page by searching for Riders ng Tondo page. They are a great club that contributes all good in our country, so kudos to the Riders ng Tondo!

CLUB SCOOPY PHILIPPINES The Club Scoopy Philippines was formed last 2011 right when Honda had an event in Quezon. Honda Philippines invited all Honda owners in that said event which in turn paved way to Honda Scoopy owners to meet. They started with only 11 club members back then, but now they grew to a bigger number. They said they invited other Scoopy owners through Facebook and when they see them riding on the streets. Like any other club, they also stage outreach programs to help the community and they plan to do more in the future. Club Scoopy Philippines is open to all Honda Scoopy owners, all they have to do is to attend two meetings. They also have an annual membership fee but they are proud members of Security and Exchange Commission or SEC and the legality of the club is evident and documented. The funds are for their advocacies which in ways will help them help others. Look for them on Facebook by searching Scoopy Philippines.
