YOUTH FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE/ EDUCATIONAL BENEFITS RATES

Youth who are residing within the Mounds View Public Schools District boundaries and currently qualify for educational benefits are eligible for reduced fees for qualifying Youth Enrichment & Activities programs. Financial support is provided by the Ralph Reeder Food Shelf, the District Community Education Scholarship fund and other community donors. Qualifying enrichment and activities will have an Educational Benefits fee (EB fee) listed.

Join us for eight weeks of summer day camps in 2023 including both full-day and half-day options for students entering grades K-6. With new instructors, new topics and one centralized camp site, students will be able to try new things, meet new people and grow.

NEW! SUMMER EXPLORE THEMED SESSIONS

MORNING AND AFTERNOON CARE

New smaller classes and more activities! Our traditional summer day camp sessions will feature a new theme each week and be offered for the morning and afternoon sessions for students in grades K-5. Each session will include moving our bodies, science experiments, art projects, outdoor adventures and more. Reduce some summer stress with our extended morning drop-off hour and afternoon pick-up hour included in your summer camp registration! Campers can be dropped off as early as 8 a.m. and picked up as late as 5 p.m. giving families a little more flexibility in their day.

Create a full day of fun with the Lunch Bunch program. For families looking for full-day options, the Lunch Bunch program is a perfect way to connect morning and afternoon camps. Lunch Bunch provides a supervised lunch hour and playground time. Students are required to bring their own lunch. Registration is in addition to camp registration, and the cost is $10 per week.

Experience high-quality supervision and a new field trip destination every Friday with our Field Trip Fridays! Field trips are $65 per field trip and require students to bring a bag lunch. Drop-off is at Turtle Lake Elementary School from 8 - 9 a.m. with pick-up from 4:30 - 5 p.m.

LUNCH BUNCH

We look forward to making sure participants have a great time this summer and are safe while in our care. We ask that you help us by following the guidelines below:

• Elementary and middle school participants enrolled in day camps will be checked in and out of the camp by a parent/guardian or caregiver unless otherwise noted. Be prepared to show a photo ID.

• Please make sure that your emergency contact information is current and any accommodation/medical needs are included in your child’s registration.

• Please complete your camper information form when it is emailed to you in May.

FIELD TRIP FRIDAYS

Youth who are residing within District boundaries and currently qualify for educational benefits are eligible for a limited number of sessions per participant at reduced fees for qualifying Summer Day Camps at Turtle Lake. To be eligible for day camp financial aid/ scholarships, you must complete the Financial Aid/Scholarship request form found on the registration home page at mvpschools.org/RegisterCommunityEd.

Join us for an action-packed week of T-ball! You’ll learn and improve on all the basics of throwing, fielding, catching, batting and baserunning. Plus, you’ll get to practice with other kids your age and have a blast while learning important values like ‘respect, hustle and pride’. On the last day of camp, show off your new skills in a fun scrimmage game! Presented by Dash Sports.

Unlock your potential and explore the world of speed-cubing! This course is perfect for cube enthusiasts of any level, as participants will receive a speed cube with beginner, intermediate or advanced materials. The instructor will guide you through a range of activities, including playing cubing games, building cube-solving robots, creating mosaics and experimenting with the latest official competition equipment. Presented by Cube Communities MN.

SOLAR CARS, ROBOTS AND MACHINES

Grades K-3 | Registration fee: $188

Stimulate your child’s creativity by designing and building epic solarpowered cars, robots and machines from easy-to-assemble parts. In addition, young tikes will build solarpowered cranes, lift bridges and many other designs. Let your little engineers explore the world of solar energy while learning how to problem solve and stretch the imagination. Presented by GoSolar! Kidz.

HEARTS AND RAINBOWS

We’ll have an amazing time drawing, painting and sculpting adorable projects including colorful rainbows, clay creatures, charming animals and cool hearts. We’ll also listen to music, paint our nails and have a blast! Presented by Abrakadoodle.

Get your adrenaline running as we learn to fly drones, launch rockets and learn the science behind flight! Not only will you race drones against your friends, you’ll also learn about model rocketry and how to shoot rockets up to 300 feet up into “space!” Presented by TechTacToe.

SUPER MARIO GAME CODING

Grades 3-6 | Registration fee: $150 Get hands-on experience developing your own game using Scratch 3, a visual coding platform. Participants will learn to think like programmers and learn coding concepts while creating a two- dimensional, arcade-style game. Presented by Tech Academy.

CHESS N’ MOTION

Grades 4-7 | Registration fee: $152 We will play chess to make our brains sweat and play physical games to make our bodies sweat. We will split our activities to keep both our heads and hearts active! GROWING AND COOKING WITH THE SUN

The sun is your best friend if you know how to use it! Learn to cook with just the sun. No electricity, gas, charcoal or wood is needed for solar cooking. This is the perfect camp to hone your artistic and designer skills. In this oneof-a-kind camp, you’ll design rooms and spaces, choose colors, elements and materials. 3D PRINTING: BUILD YOUR OWN ROBOT

Grades 4-7 | Registration fee: $200

Participants will be learning the ropes of 3D modeling and printing. They will use 3D pens to understand printing in plastic and use CAD software (computer-aided design) to design parts for their robot to be printed. By the end of the week they will have two robots to take home. Presented by Engineering for Kids.

YOUTUBE VIDEO PRODUCTION

Grades 1-4 | Registration fee: $150 Shoot videos, edit sound and create an online presence with YouTube. Learn tricks and techniques for better shots, lighting and sound, and learn film editing software through a camp project. Work in a group to create an unboxing or product review video, edit with transitions, special effects and a soundtrack, and share your finished video with the world. Presented by Tech Academy.

COOKING WITH CHEMISTRY

Grades 4-7 | Registration fee: $194 Learn how basic things in your kitchen are actually real chemicals and compounds that react with each other for delicious results. DATA SCIENCE & ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE CAMP

Participants will develop strength and agility during this camp by learning different styles and techniques to master all obstacles! We have warped walls, angled steps, salmon ladders, cliff hangers; everything you need to put your ninja skills to work! This camp transfers well into ninja levels testing or enhances other athletic performances.

Mounds View Adult Basic Education (ABE) offers courses for adults to improve their skills so they can move ahead in their jobs, prepare for further education and improve their daily lives. ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL)

English as a Second Language Class (ESL) is a Mounds View program for adults seeking to improve their English language communication skills. Students work together in classroom settings. English classes focus on listening, speaking, reading and writing English. Beginner, intermediate and advanced classes will be offered in-person in July 2023 at Silver View Education Center in Mounds View. Evening classes will be offered ONLINE in July 2023. GED/HS DIPLOMA FOR ADULTS/COLLEGE PREPARATION

For students working towards various goals, we offer three types of preparation programs. Our teachers will assist you in preparing for the four GED tests: Reading/Language Arts, Math, Social Studies and Science. If you are an adult who needs fewer than 20 credits to graduate, you may participate in Diploma classes and receive a high school diploma from Mounds View Public Schools. In addition, if you want to pursue higher education, you can also pre-test and prepare to pass the ACCUPLACER with our staff. All summer classes require registration at Silver View Education Center.

Mounds View’s CompTia Security+ Certification program offers everything you need to get ready for the Security+ exam. The Mounds View Northstar Digital Literacy Assessment program will give you the basic skills needed to use a computer and the internet in daily life, employment and higher education. EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

Mounds View Public Schools offers high-quality learning options for children birth to age five and their caregivers. Early Childhood Education offers the following programs:

• Early Childhood Family Education

• Preschool 3’s/Prekindergarten 4’s

• Early Childhood Special Education

• Early Childhood Screening

INFANT AND PARENT

Nurture the parent-child relationship with play-and-learn activities. Discover sensory activities, songs and movements to enhance baby’s brain development. Discussions on parenting topics may address feeding, sleeping routines, baby’s joys, concerns and more. Class age ranges are based on the child’s age on Sept. 1, 2023.

BABY AND ME

MOVERS

10 - 17 months | Non-separating

TODDLER AND PARENT

Spend time with your child exploring and moving in class together. These classes provide opportunities for socialemotional connections and problem-solving skills for the child and parent. Learn guidance techniques and how to support your child’s struggle from dependence to independence.

FIRST FRIENDS

30-35 months | Separation & non-parent day added sem. II

Tuition: $125 per month

This class combines ECFE and preschool together. In the fall, you will attend one day per week with your child, similar to ECFE. In the second semester, your child will attend an additional day by him or herself. The child-only day allows children to socialize with their peers, similar to preschool.

Payments are due in full at the time of registration. We accept Visa, Master Card, American Express, Discover or ACH Electronic Transfer for online registrations.

Canceled classes will not be refunded due to weather or staff professional development days. There are no refunds for family vacations or days missed due to family illness or extended leave of absence.

REFUNDS

Class refunds will be issued at 100% if registration is canceled before August 1, 2023. 85% will be refunded if canceled before September 1, 2023. 50% will be refunded if canceled September 1 - January 12, 2024. Cancellations after January 12, 2024, will be pro-rated. A $10 processing fee will be charged per refund.

PRESCHOOL AND PRE-KINDERGARTEN

Preschool and pre-kindergarten programs provide a safe learning environment for students ages three to five years old. Your child will experience a variety of fun learning activities in science, art, dramatic play, music, language, literacy, large and small muscle development and more. Relationships and joyful learning are at the heart of all our work to help children develop critical-thinking skills, build confidence, grow socio-emotionally and to prepare for kindergarten entrance. 2023-24 CLASSES: REGISTRATION NOW OPEN PRESCHOOL

Age 3

Our half-day, hands-on learning experience gives children the opportunity to begin practicing their social skills with peers, learn communication, literacy, math, fine and gross motor skills, art and dramatic play in a routine rich environment. Students must turn 3 years old by Sept. 1, 2023.

PRE-KINDERGARTEN

Age 4

Our half- and full-day options allow children to gain the skills they need to prepare for kindergarten through play. Children work on developing their school-readiness skills through interactions with peers, exploration, creativity and experimentation. Students must turn 4 years old by Sept. 1, 2023.

PRESCHOOL AND PRE-KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION, TUITION AND PAYMENTS

Preschool and pre-k classes are available first to Mounds View District residents. Non-District residents can enroll starting June 15, 2023. Schedules, tuition and fees are available at mvpschools. org/earlychildhood.

Limited tuition assistance is available through the online registration process for families who qualify. Refunds: Registration fees for preschool and pre-kindergarten are non-refundable. In addition to the non-refundable registration fee, the first tuition installment will be charged and is 50% refundable until June 1, 2023. It is non-refundable after June 1, 2023. Do you have ideas and skills to help our program or like to help and volunteer? The Early Childhood Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) is looking for members. We value your input!

Have fun with vehicles this summer. We will soar with things that fly through the sky, move big loads with trains and drive cars on roads and other surfaces. We will have time for outdoor play and a snack. Please pack a snack and a water bottle for your child.

FUN IN THE SUN

Ages: 3-5 | Fee: $75

June 19-22 | 12:30-3 p.m.

Join us for outdoor time on the playground with bubbles, balls, chalk and so much more. Children will have free play time along with running through an obstacle course. We will take a break to come inside for snack and story time. Please pack a snack and a water bottle for your child.

RAINBOW FUN

Ages: 3-5 | Fee: $75

June 26-29 | 9-11:30 a.m.

Have fun exploring with colors! We will experiment with color mixing, create rainbows with a variety of materials and have time to play both indoors and outdoors. Please pack a snack and a water bottle for your child.

BUBBLES, BUBBLES AND MORE BUBBLES

June 26-29 | 12:30-3 p.m.

Create all different size bubbles on the playground, experiment with different tools and play with peers. After our outdoor time, we will end the day with paint and create art using bubbles, sing songs and play in soapy water in our sensory table. Please pack a snack and a water bottle for your child.

LET’S BUILD IT!

Join us for a week all about bears! We will go on a bear hunt, read books about bears and prepare for a celebration on Thursday. Bring your favorite stuffed animal to school on Thursday for our Teddy Bear Picnic! Please pack a snack and a water bottle for your child.

CRAZY ABOUT CARDBOARD

Ages: 3-5 | Fee: $75

Calling all future architects! What do you get when you combine cardboard and creativity? Come find the answer as you build, cut, construct and paint all using cardboard. We will have time for a snack and outdoor play. Please pack a snack and a water bottle for your child.

GEARING UP FOR PRESCHOOL

School is right around the corner! Join us for this two-week class where we practice getting back into the routine of school. We will spend time playing outside and inside as well as have a short circle time with songs and a book. We will focus on socialemotional learning. Please note, there is no class on Friday, July 28. Please pack a snack and a water bottle for your child.

EARLY CHILDHOOD SCREENING

Early Childhood Screening is a FREE, quick and simple check of how a child is growing and developing. The recommended age for screening is three and a half years old. This screening is required for kindergarten entry in all Minnesota public schools. Mounds View Adult Education offers programs for adults to improve their skills so they can move ahead in their jobs, prepare for further education or improve their daily lives. Learn English, earn your high school diploma or GED and prepare for college or earn certifications for your next job.

REFUNDS, CHANGES, DEADLINES & CANCELLATIONS

• Cancellations must be made at least seven days prior to the start of the activity to receive a refund. A $5 processing fee will be assessed to all cancellations.

• There will be no cost adjustments for late registration or classes missed by a participant.

• Community education reserves the right to cancel a class. When cancellations occur, participants will be notified and a full refund will be issued.

• All Community Education activities are subject to changes and cancellations.

• Registration deadlines for most activities are one week prior to the start date.

• Many classes fill quickly and instructors may need to order supplies.

• Some classes may be canceled due to low enrollment, so please register early.

YOUTH SCHOLARSHIPS

Youth who are residing within the Mounds View Public Schools District boundaries and currently qualify for educational benefits are eligible for reduced fees for qualifying Youth Enrichment & Activities programs. For more information, call 651-621-6020.

ACCOMMODATION NEEDS

Individuals with accommodation needs are welcome in any activity and may bring a helper at no extra charge if needed. Please indicate needs when registering.

Do you need a little extra help with food for your family?

Call the Ralph Reeder Food Shelf today to schedule an inside market appointment or curbside pick-up that includes meat, milk, eggs, cheese, bakery, fresh produce, boxed and canned items, child-friendly snacks and meals, diapers, hygiene and cleaning supplies at no charge to you. Need help with school supplies?

The Good Neighbor Back to School Project takes place in August. Last year, the annual program provided school supplies to more than 1,000 low-income students throughout the District. Donations of new, larger-sized backpacks, spiral wide-lined notebooks, pocket folders, thick washable markers, and pencil boxes are needed by August 14. Most needed items include kid-friendly, easy-to-open foods for our District 621 Schooltrition programs for the 2023-24 school year: granola bars (peanut-free), fruit snacks, fruit cups, pudding cups, microwaveable meals, single-serve hot and cold cereal, crackers, etc. Donation drop-off hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to noon at our back entrance (2544 Mounds View Blvd. Mounds View, MN 55112).

MEALS ON WHEELS

Meals on Wheels has been an integral part of Mounds View Public Schools’ mission and commitment to serving adults in our community for nearly 50 years. It is more than just a meal; Meals on Wheels is a critical wellness visit by volunteers, a nutritious hot or frozen meal for homebound older and disabled adults, and a means of connecting older adults to other community services. Meals on Wheels is for older adults or certified disabled adults in need of help with meals, and is an ideal service to assist caregivers who may be hard-pressed finding time for meal preparation along with all their other responsibilities. Meals are affordably priced, and a sliding fee scale is available for those who qualify. You can also pay for Meals on Wheels with a credit or debit card or with your SNAP benefits.
