STORIA DI AKU AKU è la storia di un tipico self made man italiano, Galliano Bordin, fondatore dell’azienda, nata nel secondo dopoguerra a Montebelluna, cuore del distretto italiano della calzatura sportiva, come piccolo laboratorio artigianale per la riparazione di scarpe. In breve il piccolo laboratorio allarga la propria attività, specializzandosi nella produzione di scarponcini per lo sci di fondo e di semplici calzature per il trekking con il marchio Dinsport. Nel corso di oltre 30 anni di attività il piccolo laboratorio diventa una moderna industria, con due sedi produttive e oltre 200 addetti.

AKU HISTORY AKU is the story of a typical Italian self-made man, Galliano Bordin, who founded the company, started out as a small shoe repairers during the post-war years in Montebelluna, heart of the Italian sports footwear district. In no time at all this small family-run business expanded its operations, specialising in the production of cross-country ski boots and simple trekking boots under the Dinsport brand. Over its 30 years of business the small workshop has turned into a modern industry, with two production plants and over 200 employees.

La realizzazione di una forma è un processo lungo ed accurato nel quale si condensa la lunga esperienza di AKU nella progettazione e produzione di calzature di alta qualità.

Making a last is a long, painstaking process and for AKU represents years of experience in the design and production of top quality footwear.

La forma originaria AKU è la matrice, frutto di una costante ricerca sull’anatomia plantare. Da essa, grazie a specifici adattamenti, derivano le diverse tipologie di forma, che variano in rapporto ai diversi modelli e alla specifica funzione d’uso del prodotto. Forme asciutte ed allungate per le calzature professionali del segmento MOUNTAIN, destinate a favorire la precisione e la sensibilità nell’utilizzo in arrampicata su roccia. Forme avvolgenti ed anatomiche per le calzature del segmento TREKKING, destinate ad offrire stabilità ed a favorire l’azione dinamica nella camminata su sentieri di montagna con fondo molto irregolare. Forme morbide ed accoglienti per le calzature del segmento ACTIVE, destinate all’attività outdoor leggera, in condizioni non impegnative e su fondi regolari.

The original AKU last is the matrix, the fruit of constant research into shaping the sole to provide anatomical support. Specific adaptations have given rise to various types of last, which differ according to the models and the specific use for which the product has been designed. There are narrow, elongated lasts for professional footwear in the MOUNTAIN segment designed to enhance precision and sensitivity in rock climbing. Wraparound, anatomical lasts are used for the TREKKING segment footwear, designed to offer stability and help dynamic action when walking on the very uneven, rough ground of mountain tracks. Soft, snug lasts are instead used for footwear in the ACTIVE segment, designed for light outdoor activities on undemanding, level ground.

AIR8000® e INFINITY AIR sono le due soluzioni tecnologiche esclusive AKU per la costruzione di una tomaia traspirante e con il giusto equilibrio termico. Entrambi i sistemi lavorano sulla tecnica di costruzione e assemblaggio dei vari strati che compongono la tomaia. Prove di laboratorio indicano per le tomaie AIR8000® un livello di traspirazione, nell’arco delle 24 ore, fino ad oltre 11 volte superiore rispetto ad un tessuto realizzato con sistema convenzionale.

IMS INTERNAL MIDSOLE SYSTEM + Cushioning INTERNAL MIDSOLE SYSTEM è il sistema esclusivo messo a punto da AKU per la costruzione del sottopiede di montaggio. Questo sistema, grazie al quale il plantare cattura per fettamente l’anatomia del piede, permette una distribuzione uniforme della pressione del piede, impedendo scivolamenti laterali e frontali in fase di utilizzo intenso e garantendo al contempo l’assorbimento degli urti.

AIR8000® and INFINITY AIR are the two unique technological solutions utilised by AKU for engineering a breathable upper with the correct thermal balance. Laboratory tests confirm that AIR8000® offers up to 11 times greater breathability than a traditional fabric over a period of 24 hours.

The insole is made according to AKU’s IMS system where it captures perfectly the shape of the underfoot, preventing the foot from slipping back and forth and from side to side in heavy use. At the same time, it guarantees shock absorption.

SMF SLOW MEMORY FOAM + Comfort È un materiale ultra leggero e ultra traspirante, studiato per migliorare la capacità di auto modellazione della tomaia rispetto all’anatomia del piede, grazie ad una speciale memoria dinamica di forma. SMF è posizionato in 3 punti critici della calzatura per quanto riguarda il comfort: nel plantare anatomico removibile, nella linguetta e nel gambetto, inclusi il collarino e la zona attorno alle caviglie.

This is an ultra-light and ultra-breathable material engineered to enable the boot’s upper to mould to the foot’s shape and thus provide additional comfort, thanks to the special dynamic shape memory. SMF is placed in three strategic points of the boot: in the anatomic removable foot bed, in the tongue and the ankle area.

INJECTION LASTING AKU anche nelle calzature iniettate utilizza in tutte le fasi di lavorazione, inclusa quella di allacciatura, di montaggio e quelle di raffreddamento e finissaggio, una speciale forma removibile. Nessun altro produttore di calzature iniettate mantiene la forma all’interno della calzatura in particolare in queste due ultime fasi. Queste 2 fasi sono le più critiche perché è proprio nella fase di post iniezione e di raffreddamento che il poliuretano della suola memorizza la sua forma, che andrebbe perduta, per la naturale tendenza del poliuretano a restringersi, se non ci fosse all’interno della calzatura la forma removibile.

AKU uses a special removable last for injected footwear during the complete production process, when lacing, across assembly right through to cooling and finishing. No other injected footwear manufacturer keeps the last inside the boot throughout this process, especially during the last two stages, the most critical ones. During the cooling stage, after injection, the polyurethane sole memorizes its shape. This is also the stage when the polyurethane naturally shrinks therefore if the last is removed the whole boot loses its shape.

AIR SYSTEM La traspirazione della tomaia esprime il requisito fondamentale per regolare la termicità delle calzature da montagna. La tecnica di costruzione della tomaia INFINITY AIR rappresenta la nuova frontiera di AKU nella ricerca sulla traspirazione. La tomaia in questo caso è realizzata mediante un sistema a strati composto da: un supporto in microfibra, materiale il 30% più leggero e traspirante della pelle, ulteriormente lavorato per essere alleggerito e reso più traspirante grazie ad un processo di foratura; un tessuto indemagliabile a tessitura tridimensionale che ne esalta le caratteristiche di leggerezza e traspirazione. Questi 2 strati vengono assemblati tramite un processo di accoppiatura a punti che ne garantisce la leggerezza e traspirabilità, tramite ampie aree libere di aerazione.

It is essential that the upper can breathe to keep feet warm inside mountain footwear. With the INFINITY AIR upper, AKU’s research on breathability is clearly shown in the cutting-edge constructional technique. In this case the upper is made using a layered system consisting of: a base in microfiber, a material that is already 30% lighter and more breathable than leather but has been worked, using a perforation process, to make it even more lightweight and more breathable a non-run 3-D woven fabric that enhances the features of lightness and breathability. These 2 layers are joined together with a spot bonding process that guarantees light weight and breathability because large areas for ventilation are left free.

INTERNAL MIDSOLE SYSTEM Da tempo AKU utilizza su molti dei propri modelli un sistema di costruzione del sottopiede di montaggio denominato IMS – INTERNAL MIDSOLE SYSTEM. Grazie a questo sistema il piede non è più a contatto con la superficie rigida del sottopiede di montaggio, bensì con la superficie modellabile del plantare interno. Con IMS il plantare cattura perfettamente l’anatomia del piede, impedendo scivolamenti laterali e frontali in fase di utilizzo intenso, garantendo al contempo l’assorbimento degli urti.

AKU has been using a footbed construction system called IMS – INTERNAL MIDSOLE SYSTEM – for some years on many of its models. This system is designed to keep the foot in contact with the moldable surface of the sockliner or insole rather than with the rigid surface of the assembly footbed. With the IMS the sockliner accommodates the foot correctly and so prevents sideways and forwards slip during intense use, while at the same time ensuring shock absorption.

SLOW MEMORY FOAM Su alcuni modelli AKU ha integrato l’Internal Midsole System attraverso l’utilizzo di SLOW MEMORY FOAM che migliora ulteriormente la capacità di auto modellazione della tomaia al piede. Questo materiale ultraleggero e ultratraspirante, che lavora con una memoria dinamica di forma (nel senso che dopo essere stato compresso riacquista lentamente la propria forma originaria) è posizionato in 3 punti critici della calzatura per quanto riguarda il comfort: nel plantare anatomico removibile, nella linguetta e nel gambetto, inclusi il collarino e la zona attorno alle caviglie. Grazie all’impiego di SLOW MEMORY FOAM, è stato quindi ulteriormente migliorato il livello complessivo di comfort della calzatura, così come la capacità della stessa di adattarsi e mantenere a lungo la forma del piede.

AKU has integrated certain models with the Internal Midsole System that uses SLOW MEMORY FOAM, which improves the capacity of the upper to mold itself to the foot. This ultralightweight and ultra-breathable material, which has a dynamic memory of shape (in the sense that it slowly returns to its original shape after being compressed), is used in 3 points of the footwear that are vital for comfort: in the removable anatomical sockliner or insole, in the tongue and in the cuff, including the collar and the ankle area. Insertion of the SLOW MEMORY FOAM has therefore improved the overall level of comfort of the footwear as well as its capacity to adapt and keep its shape longer.

TEST INTERNI

AKU garantisce la qualità delle proprie calzature attraverso un programma specifico di controlli lungo tutto il processo di produzione, dalla materia prima al prodotto finito. A garanzia della conformità del prodotto rispetto alle caratteristiche funzionali, le calzature AKU sono sottoposte a numerosi test di laboratorio durante tutte le fasi di lavorazione da parte della struttura interna di controllo qualità, nonché direttamente sul campo, a livello di prototipi, grazie all’intensa attività di verifica messa in atto dai testers alpinisti, tecnici e guide alpine che collaborano con AKU per la messa a punto del prodotto.

I principali test interni riguardano l’impermeabilità, la resistenza e l’estetica. L’impiego della membrana GORE-TEX®, concesso su licenza da parte di WL-Gore Associates, implica obbligatoriamente una verifica preventiva sulla compatibilità fra i materiali utilizzati per costruire la tomaia e la membrana stessa. Tali test sono condotti direttamente da GORE® all’interno dei propri laboratori e costituiscono la prima fase di controllo sulla rispondenza del prodotto alle proprie caratteristiche funzionali. In fase di assemblaggio, viene poi testata la calza GORE-TEX® per verificare l’assenza di eventuali danni o non conformità, mediante un test ad immersione.

GUARANTEED QUALITY

IN-HOUSE TESTS

AKU guarantees the quality of its footwear through a specific quality control program that is implemented in all stages of the production process, from the raw material to the finished product. To guarantee that the functional features of the product are in conformity with specifications, AKU footwear undergoes not only many laboratory tests by in-house quality control staff in all stages of the process, but also tests directly in the field. There is an intense activity of testing prototypes by mountaineers, technicians and Alpine guides, who work together with AKU in putting the finishing touches to the product.

The main in-house tests are concerned with waterproofness, durability and appearance. When the GORE-TEX® membrane, on license from WL-Gore Associates, is used, the very first test must be to ensure that the materials used to make the upper and the actual membrane are compatible. These tests are carried out directly by GORE® in its own laboratories and are the first stage in checking that the product meets its functional requirements. During assembly the GORE TEX® bootie undergoes an immersion test to check for damage or non-conformity.

TEST DI RESISTENZA E ABRASIONE Il campione, prima di diventare prodotto finito, subisce poi un severo test di resistenza, simulando meccanicamente il movimento della camminata per oltre 500.000 passi. Si misurano il livello di logoramento della tomaiae di abrasione della suola.

DURABILITY TEST Before becoming a finished product, the sample is subjected to a stringent durability test which consists of mechanical gait simulation for more than 500,000 steps. The wear of the upper and the abrasion of the outsole are measured.

TEST DI IMPERMEABILITÀ

Il prodotto finito viene quindi ulteriormente verificato in termini di impermeabilità, mediante un test realizzato con strumentazione fornita direttamente da WL-GORE per escludere la possibilità di eventuali danneggiamenti intervenuti nel corso dell’industrializzazione, in particolare nella delicata fase dell’orlatura (cucitura) della tomaia.

WATERPROOFING TEST The finished product is then checked for waterproofness, with a test using instruments supplied directly by WL-GORE, in case any damage has occurred during the industrial process, in particular in the delicate phase of (welting) stitching the upper.

CONTROLLO ESTETICO

TEST SUL CAMPO I principali test sul campo riguardano la precisione, la tenuta la termicitá. Ogni tester compila una scheda di valutazione tecnica che viene successivamente elaborata dal dipartimento design in collaborazione con la modelleria per applicare gli eventuali interventi correttivi.

Un controllo finale sul prodotto prima dello stoccaggio a magazzino riguarda l’estetica del modello (in particolare i colori del pellame ed eventuali residui di lavorazione) e le modalità di presentazione (allacciatura, pulizia). A questo punto il prodotto è pronto per essere commercializzato.

LOOK CONTROL There is a final aesthetic control of the product prior to storage in the warehouse (in particular the colors of the leather and any work residues) as well as the methods of presentation (fastening/lacing, cleanliness). The product is now ready to be put on the market.

FIELD TESTS

The main field tests concern precision and thermal performance. Each tester fills in a technical assessment sheet, which is then processed by the design department together with the modelling unit so that any corrective work can be applied.

COSTRUZIONE ___ Zaino pensato per escursioni e trekking in quota, con una capacità di 35 litri si presta ad un utilizzo tecnico in ambiente montano. Il peso contenuto (1400 grammi) e le caratteristiche di anatomicità, garantite anche dai sistemi di regolazione degli spallacci e dei lacci laterali, rendono questo zaino particolarmente confortevole da indossare, senza però sacrificare l’aspetto funzionale: coprizaino impermeabile, ricca dotazione di tasche laterali sulla parte superiore dello zaino, sistema di ventilazione della schiena per un fit ideale che, unitamente alle imbottiture attorno agli spallacci e al leggerissimo telaio in acciaio, garantisce la massima protezione dagli urti e dallo sfregamento. Tasche esterne integrate, cinghia di compressione laterale e anelli porta attrezzatura.

COSTRUZIONE ___ Zaino ergonomico e versatile, adatto agli usi più diversi in ambiente outdoor, dal trekking all’escursionismo, ma anche per il viaggio e le avventure all’aria aperta. Estremamente leggero, con una capienza di 25 litri, è facilmente adattabile alle caratteristiche fisiche di chi lo indossa grazie ai lacci regolabili in vita e agli spallacci personalizzabili in lunghezza. Lo zaino AKU Daypack 25L è inoltre dotato di un sistema schienale di ventilazione che assicura la regolazione dell’umidità e della temperatura della schiena, e di un coprizaino impermeabile, in caso di pioggia. Da non dimenticare inoltre la disponibilità di tasche laterali e lacci funzionali ad assicurare e trasportare oggetti di varia dimensione.
