#1 | THE HEROIC IN VALDOBBIADENE | 2019 Andreola

From the vineyards to the Formula 1 circuits: the DNA of a hero The Issue Zero of this magazine will always be dear to our hearts, because, despite being a “null” issue, it was nevertheless the first issue of “L’Eroico in Valdobbiadene”. The magazine started as little more than an idea, but quickly became important to us as a way of sharing the unique nature of winemaking in this region. Here, vines cling to the steep slopes, giving the sparkling wines of Andreola the characteristics that make them unique: wines that are creamy on the palate, with aromas that are intense and elegant on the nose, each one the child and the unique expression of its specific terroir. But it’s with our “first issue” – which is also the first of 2019 and which will be presented to the general public at Vinitaly – that our editorial project starts to fully take shape. Expanding on the format of last November’s edition, you’ll find three new sections dedicated to our suppliers, our customers and to the international market that Andreola is aimed at. We’ve tried to tell you as much as we can about what lies behind the bubbles in a glass of Valdobbiadene Docg – the expertise, the partnerships, the passion, the marriage of tradition and innovation. In this issue you’ll also find the story of “Intavolando”, an association created by a group of friends in the restaurant business that led to the idea of a restaurant network. You’ll also find pages dedicated to the Amorim Group, whose corks are used to stop all bottles of Valdobbiadene Docg produced by Andreola, and which shares our quest for product excellence. Meanwhile, with Cristian Maddalena, Export Manager for Andreola, we talk about what it means to export this prestige product around the world. “UNIQUE. SUPERIOR. HEROIC”. We’ve already talked about uniqueness and superior quality, and in this issue we explore the DNA of “heroism” in a location that might seem far removed from the hillside vineyards of Valdobbiadene. The place? One of the most famous Formula 1 tracks in the world, and the third oldest circuit after Brooklands and Indianapolis: the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, now known as the Monza Eni Circuit. Andreola has been a partner of the circuit for four years, adding value to the proceedings with its prestigious sparkling wines, enriching the podium celebrations and marking important moments like the press conference of the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix. Our “In Conversation” feature for this issue is dedicated to Pietro Benvenuti, General Manager of the circuit. We ask him about this fascinating world and what possible link there could be between the heroes of speed and the slower passage of the seasons that defines the work of winegrowers. It’s not such a great leap from the vineyards to the Formula 1 track as you might think: it’s all about intuition, the art of mastering time – whether that’s a moment or a season – and the painstaking quest for perfection.
